Gameweek 3 saw some exciting progress across the qualifying groups . We are now starting to get a real idea of which teams will be going through to the next stage of the tournament and who might fall at the qualifying stage. Nobody has been knocked out yet but a few nations are now on thin ice.

Gameweek 3 Review

The average team score for this week was 300 points. There were some close ties in the CONMEBOL region this week which kept us all guessing. In particular was the match between Peru and Ecuador, with the Peruvians  narrowly edging out a win by one point, which ended 302 and 301 respectively. The ties of Brazil v Bolivia, Tahiti v Bhutan, Mexico v Jamaica and Zambia v Tanzania were all decided by a margin of less than 5 points.

The biggest win of the week was for the Cayman Islands who beat Canada by a whopping 84 points in a match that ended 309 to 225.

Costa Rica, India, Singapore, Wales, Netherlands and Zambia are all maintaining a 100% record but these teams are not safe and sound yet.

In contrast, things are starting to look tricky for Brazil, USA, Barbados, UAE, Sri Lanka, France, San Marino and Ivory Coast who all still maintain a 100% record of losing. Again, your future is still in your  hands at this point but you all need to start winning!

The Luckiest Team Award goes to Zambia, who scraped a win with only 275 points (25 points below average) and left them top of their group with a 100% record.

The Unluckiest Team Award goes to Italy, who lost their tie against Israel despite scoring a whopping 329 points. This would have been enough to win all but 6 ties this week.

The Worst Benching Decision goes to the game between San Marino and Iceland. This match was an example of how not to decide your bench with the 2 highest scoring benches of the week. San Marino benched Spectrum and his whopping 70 points. If Sess! had been benched instead, they would have won the match! Their opponents Iceland benched their own monster haul as Gilli Gold racked up the highest bench total of the week at 77 points.

Meanwhile, the Presser Award for Gameweek 3 Goes to Johnny Orphan from team Poland for his excellent take on Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”.

I would also like to give an honourable mention to Diva, who as a member of FIFFSA, is not eligible for the award but every week comes up with fantastic press conferences which enlighten the world into the inside workings of FIFFSA and team Seychelles.

Keep the pressers up! There are so many excellent contributors which have yet to win awards. If you haven’t submitted one before why not submit one this week? We are still waiting for Iceland to submit one based upon a Peter Andre advert!

Gameweek 4 Preview

There are lots of exciting ties upcoming this week and some teams should be able to secure their spots in the first round proper of the tournament.

Eyecatching fixtures fixtures include a make or break tie for pointless USA against the competition’s top scorers  Costa Rica.

Another interesting tie is Zambia versus the Ivory Coast. Zambia are the only team in the CAF region with a 100% record whereas Ivory coast have yet to register a point. However,  things are closer than they appear as Ivory Coast have only scored 2 less than Zambia over the duration of the tournament and must feel quite aggrieved to be without a win.

In Uefa group C there is a must win clash between San Marino and Republic of Ireland, with San Marino languishing at the foot of the table without a win. It is also an important match for Republic of Ireland as they have only got 4 points so far. This is a real 6 pointer at this stage of qualification.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Housekeeping

Firstly, we would like to clear something up as there has been a degree of confusion across our articles which came  to light this week. It was stated  in our article that the auto subbing policy would automatically bench the sixth player of each team if we did not hear from the respective team’s Captain/Vice Captain before the deadline. However, our charter states that your previous week’s benched player will be benched. This was an administrative error and I thought it best to resolve it this week.

As the sixth player was perceived to be the auto benched player, we will continue in this fashion and amend the charter respectively.

Secondly, we would like to address the matter of the deadline for submitting in your substitute. This is 2300 GMT on the Friday night. We are still receiving many mails after this time so please be punctual. This is due to the fact that, as we start adding substitutes to the spreadsheet, which all teams have access to, any late submissions could potentially have an unfair advantage.

Any future substitutions sent  to us after 2300 GMT will not be accepted and your 6th player will be benched. No Exceptions!

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each Gameweek teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ Gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) by the Friday of each Gameweek otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the early kick-off on Saturday at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

A standalone adventure from the Seychelles.

(in a loud booming trailer voice)

    In a world of pain.

    In a time of war.

    In a place called hell.

Only one egg could save them and he was last seen…….On the beach?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu3z8oywpzQ

I had recently finished my latest duel with the evil wizard Zak but had got castaway on this desert island by accident.

I know Daisy, Dylan, Dora, Denzil, Dozy and Pogie would be wondering where I was and I set about trying to get home to the rest of the Yolkfolk.

To the left of me were some garden shears a milk bottle and and a magic lamp. I picked them all up and headed into the lush vegetation of the jungle.

Fortunately I soon came across Grand Dizzy who was hiding in a bush. He couldn’t speak so I used the shears to trim the bush and he said to me.

“At last young Dizzy” he exclaimed (clearly bewildered) “The wizard Zak has escaped again with your FPL team mates and scattered them across time and space, you must hunt them down in order to achieve the ultimate prize”

“Take this magic watch to guide you”

Grand Dizzy passed me a watch with a strange ethereal glow

Rub it and it will show you the way but remember you get one hour to release the supporters of your cause”

So I rubbed the lamp and a purple swirling door appeared in front of me I stepped in…..

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voKCpfph8g4

I arrived in a sunny glade a dog was lying on the floor next to me seemingly in agony whining.

“Diva, what has happened to you?”

“I have this thorn in my paw, I can’t get it out I cannot walk let alone make it to the pitch”

What do I do now? I knew my milk bottle and magic lamp would be no use in this circumstance so I went on a hunt. I entered a cave to my right carefully bounced over some ghosts and landed on a lilypad where I found a powerpill and hopped on further to a volcanic island where I found some tweezers.

I was annoyed I could not carry any more items but I discarded the milk bottle and it smashed on the floor.

I hopped back to the glade to where I had found Diva and approached him gingerly.

He seemed not to notice me in his agony and I crept up and using my tweezers I pulled that thorn out of his foot before he saw me.

He was immediately pain free and sat up.

“How can I thank you?” he said

“You will play and we will win together. As Yolkfolk should”

At that he disappeared, I rubbed the watch again and stepped through the doorway.

I was stood in a dark cave there was seemingly no way out. There was a table on the table was an old cloth and a book. I took the old cloth and used it with the magic lamp I had picked up earlier.

Out from the lamp jumped Jawain clearly relieved to have some legroom and he announced

“Hail Cheeseoid, prince of the Yolkfolk, I grant you one wish”

I didn’t have to think “I release you from the lamp Jawain, but you play for me and we will win”

“Your wish is my command!” He boomed and with that he disappeared.

I rubbed the watch again and stepped through the door

This time I was in a room, It had a black and white chequered floor, and there was a mirror on the wall.

I tried moving toward the mirror but it got further away, then I tried moving away and I got closer. It soon became obvious I was inside the mirror and all of my actions had an opposite reaction. What a weird world I was in.

Then came the soldiers, they were small at first, but it seemed that there were larger characters in the background. There was a shrieking voice shouting

    “Off with his head!”

It was a chessboard and the queen was shrieking before me. Next to the queen there was a figure I knew well. King Balders, how had he become ensnared by the evil queen of hearts.

I knew what I had to do. By keeping to the white checkered tiles on the floor I was able to avoid the pawns then I hopped over the bishop and I was straight in front of the King. I said simply “My liege we are leaving” and he vanished.

The queen screamed with rage and I disappeared inside the purple doorway as quickly as I could.

I reappeared in a cottage which contained a black cat and a roaring fire. There was a pointy hat visible over a counter on the other side of the room. I ventured over toward it..

“Ah, an egg just what I need to complete my potion” the wicked witch said and she moved toward me quickly for an elderly woman.

I backed toward the fire and out of desperation pulled an item from my pocket. A book, the witch screamed “my spellbook, where did you find that?”

I hurled the book into the fire and the wicked witch chased it in and was engulfed in flames and disappeared.

I heard a groan from the cat and went over to it. On closer inspection it was a badger a BSLOE Badger and it was groaning. It had been clearly mistreated. I grabbed him and was off through the doorway as I heard a clock chime. Time was up. I came through the doorway into the centre circle surrounded by my friends.

They were all ready to fight. We would get down and dirty with Zimbabwe and take them deep and hard.

But Blue Lion was still lost

    Malaysia vs India

India and Malaysia go a long way back. From Bollywood love stories to Kerala cuisine, to heck, even the ancestry of one of our esteemed former PMs, the ties are as harmonious as alluring waves slapping a beachfront relentlessly, day in, day out.

But all is fair in love and war. Those Bollywood movies and dances show this as much. And this war matters, much like the constant struggle of choosing between a cheese naan or a lamb biryani for Friday nights in. This is our Sparta. In the spirit of good ties, we wish our Indian counterparts the best of matches and may the Amitabh Bachchans of football be with you.

Whatever the outcome, there will still be a festive dance at the end, because this is India and Malaysia we are talking about: two lands that enjoy festivities as much as they enjoy a good game of footie and a table full of food.

    March on in good stead.

    ...Presser Alert...

The boys and I came up with this little ditty to the tune of Whiskey In The Jar, we even kept in an original line from the chorus that to most of you may read like gibberish, but in the drunken eyes of an Irishman it reads like poetry, harking back to Yates or Wilde.

    "First Win for Marin-O"

As I was goin' over the Apennine Mountains.
I saw Captain Sess and his points he was countin'.
I first produced my laptop and then produced my spreadsheet.
I said just because we’re bottom doesn’t mean that we can’t take em.

(Musha ring dumb a do dumb a da.)
    First win for Marin-o,
    First win for Marin-o.
There's three points in the bag-o.

I counted their team value and it was a pretty penny.
I took all my predictions and I brought them back to Spectrum.
He swore the team would love me, for all the work I did.
But the devil take that price change site for you know she tricked me easy.

(Musha ring dumb a do dumb a da.)
    First win for Marin-o,
    First win for Marin-o.
There's three points in the bag-o.

Being drunk and weary I went to Balder's chamber.
Pleadin' check the points again while pointin’ at the table.
Barry never touched it, Moreno was onside
Then in walked Captain Sess in tears with the rule book by his side

(Musha ring dumb a do dumb a da.)
    First win for Marin-o,
    First win for Marin-o.
There's three points in the bag-o.

Now some men like the fishin' and some men like the fowlin',
And some men like ta hear a cannon ball a roarin'.
Me? I like fantasy football specially when I’m winnin’.
But here I am with a low rank , here I am with no wild card to play, yeah.

(Musha ring dumb a do dumb a da.)
    First win for Marin-o,
    First win for Marin-o.
There's three points in the bag-o.

We all know the Irish will fight until the end
But it’s obvious The Ultimate Keyboard Warrior is pretend
I guess that doesn’t matter cause we somehow lost to Iceland
But this is different our luck will change I mean how can we loose to Ireland?

(Musha ring dumb a do dumb a da.)
    First win for Marin-o,
    First win for Marin-o.
There's three points in the bag-o.

    TEAM EIRE NEWS

Overnight, news has broken of a rumoured bust up between Ireland Manager Tony Hibbert and self-proclaimed "bad boy" RoysCallerAnne. Hibbert is said to be privately fuming that RCA went out on the lash the night before a crucial match against fancied San Marino.

Hibbert has reportedly told pals that "four or five pints of Guiness the evening before a game is no problem, obviously, but Roy rolled in at 2:47am clearly steaming way past the deadline and mumbling something about "fecking Sturridge". It is understood that Hibbert is dealing with the incident internally and that RCA may be dropped from the starting line up.

Further details are breaking on this one all the time. A source close to the Irish Camp also reports that RCA blurted "good luck lalll goognight". Speculation grows that CallerAnne, 48, is secretly developing a new hybrid English-Gaelic language.

Just to be clear, I have a slight hamstring niggle. There is no fallout with the manager. I did call him an ugly toad but we laughed about it this morning when I nudged him awake in the hotel room.

        Bantz.

        Just to be clear part (2) I did Sturridge -> Bony @ 2.58am. So I clearly wasn't steaming... 😳

Is there a tradition in other countries than Norway where during the weeks before Christmas you go out with all of your colleges and eat Christmas food and get super drunk? We call it "julebord".

We lost contact with one of our team mates heading for a "julebord" last night, so our benching decision was made easy. Never got his team and haven't heard from him since early friday, and by own experience, that Aguero to Kane transfer won't be happening in the next 15 minutes either.

Yet still you're amongst the highest scoring teams this week aswell. We got really lucky by facing you guys in your only semi-weak GW. Will be hard to get past you.

    Hello committee,
I just got online and saw that the wrong player is benched for Spain.

We had benched Teddy this week and mail was sent well before deadline.

I was travelling so could not check it before.

    Kindly make the changes.

        Ya Matt saw that.
Montenegro's win depends on the Spurs Match.

        All the best.

Hope we get a close contest.
