Gameweek 4 saw further progress made across the qualifying groups. The shape of the groups continued to form with only three teams remaining undefeated and five teams yet to pick up a win.

Gameweek 4 Review

The average team score for this week was 293 points and the competition once again enjoyed some close ties with the match between Ecuador and Bolivia finishing in a draw. Meanwhile, the ties between the Solomon Islands and Iran and the Seychelles and Zimbabwe were also decided only by a couple of points.

The biggest win of the week was for Spain who defeated Montenegro by a convincing 56 points in a match that ended 320 to 264.

Tahiti, Wales and Zambia all maintained their 100% record and look secure for qualification.

In contrast, things look bleak for Brazil, Barbados, UAE, Sri Lanka and Ivory Coast who all still maintain a 100% losing record. Qualification may be difficult/impossible but you still have your pride to play for!

Once again, the luckiest team award goes to Zambia, who scraped a win with only 278 points (15 points below average) and they remain top of their group with a 100% record.

The unluckiest team award goes to Lichtenstein, who lost their tie against Israel despite scoring 318 points (25 points above average). This would have been enough to win all but six ties this week.

The worst benching decision goes to Uruguay who left out Oghash who scored 78(-4) points, although it didn’t matter, with Uruguay winning comfortably.

The presser award for Gameweek 4 goes to Il Dzenzio of San Marino for their pre-match sing-along of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’.

Keep the pressers up! There are so many excellent contributors which have yet to win awards. If you haven’t submitted one before, why not submit one this week?

Gameweek 5 Preview

There are lots of exciting ties coming up this week and some teams should be able to secure their spots in the first round proper of the tournament.

Eye-catching fixtures include the top-of-the-table clashes between Finland and Portugal in UEFA group B and Cuba v Costa Rica in CONCACAF.

Another key clash will be Barbados v Jamaica. Barbados are yet to register a win but are up against a strong Jamaica side who have won their last three matches and are pushing hard for qualification.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

We would like to remind everyone of the deadline for submitting in your substitutes. This is 2300 GMT on the Friday night. We are still receiving some emails after this time and those teams had their 6th player benched as stated in the article. Please email as early as possible as we have limited time to organise the team spreadsheets and update the score centre on a Friday night/Saturday morning.

Any teamsheets sent to us after 2300 GMT will not be accepted and your sixth player will be benched. No exceptions!

Also, a quick reminder of the format. Each Gameweek, teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each team’s Gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) by the Friday of each Gameweek otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the early kick-off on Saturday at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

      Bolivia:

Well played Peru. We just haven't had the Monday Night magic in us so far to keep our leads in past weeks, or catch you this week. Hart getting megged by Giroud and using his face on Rambo ostensibly kept the 3 points in Lima. Congrats.

Going to be a dogfight the last 2 weeks of qualifying in Conmebol. We're going to need to get hot and get some help w Uruguay and a hot Colombia on tap. Wonder if Brazil pulled off the upset or if Uruguay held.

Why is there such a clamour to get Aguero in?
Yes he's a great player and probably will come good at some point, but that point is far from now.

      So far this season he:
      > has delivered just 52 points (less than half the return of Vardy, Igahlo, Luka)
      > Only been fit to play for 672 minutes - proving to be a massive injury risk
      > Had just 1 outsized haul - aside from the Newcastle result, the best points was 6 (of which only 2 results have been delivered)
      > Hasn't strung together two consecutive point scores.

Despite being the joint 9th best striker he costs more than any other player in the game and only marginally less than the joint price of Vardy and Igahlo.

We try to put some kind of logic to it, this week for example Wasabi had the most players facing off against one another so thought that limited us, we didn't account for his Ighalo captain though coming good today

....and tbh - I thought I was the right bench pick the last 2 weeks too !

Mind you - I've been really impressed with what I've seen of Ighalo. Even when he hasn't scored he's looked a real hornet in attack. 3 weeks with the armband, and while you could have picked a better scorer from week to week (eg. Mahrez), I think he's been sensational.

Thanks to Watford we've taken a slender lead after BAPS but before autosubs going into the final day. However with Brazil having twice as many players left I think the only chance we have is somethign like a 1-1 draw with Kosi and sterlng/Kun scoring:

      Uruguay 276 vs Brazil 272

      Uruguay
      Kosi
      Aguero
      Sterling

      Brazil
      Ozil
      Kolarov x 3
      Bellerin
      Walcott

We are due Kolarov x 1 and VVD x 1 from the bench, which narrows it slightly, but still not much.

      Tahiti vs India update -

      Score post autosubs -
      Tahiti 291-280 India

      Differentials -
      Tahiti -
      Ozil, Ramsey, De Bruyne

      India -
      Bellerin, Kolarov, Silva, Aguero

Liverpool blank sets us up nicely for our 5th win in 5. With Wales and Zambia in extremely unfavourable positions, we look likely to be the only unbeaten team and the first team to qualify 🙂

Phew glad we don't have a 79 point player on the bench

it shows how good we are that we can have our top scorer benched and still put up a fight......

      South Africa vs. Seychelles update:
      South Africa 282 - 286 after autosubs

      Remaining differentials:
South Africa: KDB, Monreal, and Bellerin
Seychelles: Ozil, Ramsey, Giroud, and Silva

Ighalo comes through for South Africa to make it just a four point lead for the Seychelles heading into the final match of the gameweek. Seven players remain as differentials meaning this one is too close to call!

Talk about Betty Swallocks, this is going down to the wire. Never have I wanted an Arsenal win with BTTS more than this week.

I'm on the bench for this game. My own ML has been a disaster so far this week. I own KDB Bellerin Ramsey Ozil. The first 3 are differentials for me. Big game tonight

It looks like I missed Gomes as a remaining differential for South Africa in my post yesterday. He had a hand in South Africa's big comeback today as well.

After adding a Francis auto-sub for both teams:

Djibouti 293p: 3x Bellerin, Ramsey, Monreal

Tanzania 249p: 3x Agüero, 2x Silva, 2x Kolarov, Özil, Koscielny

Hopefully City don't score too many.

CAF-group was looking clear-cut yesterday, but now there might not be 4 qualifiers tomorrow.

This is for all the Arsenal and City assets who play tomorrow:

      We are the Seychellois
We check the scores every day
We like who we like, we hate who we hate
      But we're also easily swayed

        Let it never be said
        That this tie is dead
        'Cause there's so little else
        Occupying my head

        There is nothing I need
except to see South Africa bleed
        But I'm not really fussed
        Doesn't matter to me

        Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey
Do you, do you, do you, do you
Know what you're doing, doing, to me
        Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey

        Due to lack of interest
        Tomorrow is cancelled
        Let the fixtures be reset
        And the scores be held

        'Cause there's nothing at all
        Except the space in-between
        Finding out what you're called
        And repeating your name

Could it be, could it be
That Thomass is joking with me?
And you don't really see Giroud and Ramsey?

        Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey
Do you, do you, do you, do you
Know what you're doing, doing, to me
        Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey
Do you, do you, do you, do you
Know what you're doing, doing, to me

Would gladly take a Kolarov no show giving Bolivia a total of 2p off the bench rather than the 2x Kolarov differential.
