I was planning Everton or crystal palace but I might wait a bit longer now and see if he can remain fit, almost pulled the trigger the last two weeks though so would definitely keep, sure he will score in the home games.

  2. Top Player For 2016

I have some nostalgia with this guy, as he was one of the most consistent players last year early on when the team had a clinical striker to finish his majestic chances. Quality corner taker, more than capable of the odd worldly FK goal in otherwise nil-nil affairs. He could (this is pushing it a lot tbh) also potentially be on penalties at some point if the two ahead of them are rotated/injured as has been the case for the second in line of late & maybe even for number 1 considering his recent performances (stars aligning & all that jazz).

    #2 - http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/11275/

This guy has been creeping up with some very strong underlying stats of late, if only they had better finishers on board 🙁 Only real problem is the team's attack, though one could argue he's had some pretty weak offensive fixtures these last four (six GW's really to be precise) to add context to that. Their expected goals or xG value (data courtesy of Michael Caley's brilliant xG maps) has been very weak as well these last six, among the worst tbh.

    xG: (0.4, 0.7, 1.1, 0.8, 1.2, 0.2). xG sum of 4.4 in 6 matches, with an average of 0.73 per game.
Goals: (0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0). Only 2 goals out of an expected 4.4 is obviously very below average.

Their awfully low conversion rate also falls in line with this agenda: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/11739/

That's an total xG efficiency of 0.45 (decent indicator of teams under performing with a number closer to 1.00 being the trend line & a healthy range for the majority of teams). Again, their finishing has really let them down as a whole as they'be been getting into alright scoring position but are missing that final touch. You could argue they're under performing relative to the quantity & quality of shots they've taken,

They have some pretty mixed attacking fixtures these next six, nothing too enticing, as he faces four teams who have seen defensive resurgences. That said, since for the next three months or so, fixtures are operating in H/a double blocks, this lad's home swing starts GW21. To start off, it looks like a prime home fixture for him to hopefully start converting more of his chances/SoT & delivering on his underlying stats. That team's defense is notoriously bad on all fronts with no signs of improving, not much else to say here, they suck. Following that, he's up against a very strong defense with some of the best defensive stats around, not an easy fixture, but playable at least since he's at home here. Then a very leaky & error prone backline, one of the lighter fixtures around for attackers IMO.

In essence, GW21 could be a good tryout period for him & test the water for two GW's at least IMO. His influence has gone unrewarded recently & their could be a good opportunity to get the main playmaker from a potentially under performing attack. For the cheap-ish price he's at & with a current lack (for many) for dishing out budgets on the likes of Agüero or Sánchez, a relatively risk free alternative for the more rotation inclined could be to opt for him as a 5th mid, IMO.

He almost joined us at the start of last season, decided not to. Glad he didn't as we'd probably of kept Warnock too long to stay up. Good player though.

Perhaps he isn't the answer, still a better prospect though IMO (the bar is pretty low). If in fact Bielsa signs, I can't see Gomis being one to put up with the physical restraints his play style entails.

Yeah I'm with you there, like most playmakers, their always hindered by the incompetent logs ahead of them that can't do their job correctly.

Also of note, he's averaged the highest positioning of the team these last four (GW18 he played deep), further forward than the strike as well.

It may be a tad early for some, but I think he's a genuine option soon. Hopefully he picks it up a bit & continues putting up big numbers, could be ripe for GW21.

He definitely was one of the standout picks last season, punished sellers many times early on. The question is if we'll see his performances or to be exact , his hauls of old now with a kinder schedule. Maybe a managerial change is what that attack needs to start clicking again. I'm hoping it happen soon though to take advantage of the homers 😉

Very interesting assessment. I've been eyeing up Lamela as a bit of a differential recently and, compared to this guy, he doesn't look as good an option. However, the relative strength of attacks and the clinical-ness of the ST up top has to be a factor imo.

2 FTs, Arsenal mid could score way more than 4 more than the Man City mid vs Watford.
Either way you need to make a transfer and get 2 weeks to make a plan.

The hatred United fans have towards Moyes bugs me. LVG has squandered far more money and has a lower win percentage. I'd like to have seen what would have happened had Moyes been given the same budget.

Not saying LVG is exciting. Just that Moyes is better off at smaller clubs and doing 'more with less'. He isn't someone suited to running one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Yes. But at a club like Man U you need to do a lot better than he did. Just because he did a better job than LVG doesn't mean that he did well. He was a bad appointment IMO. But whoever took over from Fergie had a tough job on their hands.

Created far more with Moyes than LVG in my opinion. Also in fergies last few years, the football was boring at times. The only difference was that we won games with fergie whereas with moyes we were still adjusting

            Chances created Manchester Utd

under Moyes in PL: 10.24 per game
Under LVG this season: 7.68 per game

Moyes didn't have enough time for anyone to judge him. We don't know if he was going to be great or be a flop. The difference with LVG is that we know what we'll get from him since we have had him for 18 months. I don't want him sacked, nonetheless, if top 4 is still achievable. If we do go around 8 points behind 4th place, I'd be able to justify his sacking but I think he'll resign before that. As a united fan myself, I don't enjoy LVG style of football but for the good of the club, he needs to remain and see his contract out just so that we can bring some stability to the club. It all hangs on the next 2 games and the cup.

In the eyes of the LVG fanboys, he can do no wrong. I've never seen anyone defend a manager so much than some of the united fans I've spoken to. It's always the same people that hated moyes and wanted him out at any cost.

The reason they did not trust Moyes with £200m is because he spent £28m on Fellaini and he managed 7th in the league . They wanted a big name they could trust to spend the money . Hindsight is a wonderful thing

My understanding is they decided to trust Fergie who wanted Guardiola or Mourinho and Moyes was his second choice/third choice. They gave him a chance mostly because Fergie backed him. I think they trusted Fergie rather than Moyes

My point was that Moyes spent 28 mill on a player who is simply not worth that and he came 7th . Moyes made a right mess of things and he has highly naive in the way in which he dealt with the press etc . I don't think they would have gotten top four the next season they toughen up alot under Van Gael and there is nothing to suggest things would have gotten better under him

Man Utd have always spent more for players than other clubs. The point is we needed someone and since Woodward flopped on Fabregas, Thiago and herrera, we needed to get a midfielder in as quickly as possible. Not matter what, if we wanted fellaini we would have spent 24mil to get him as that was the minimum release clause. Since we ran out of time on that clause we ended up spending a further 4 mil on him than we would have.

It still beats LVG's transfers tho

I know too many United fans with a sense of entitlement to the big names in football. When I suggested to a United friend of mine that I could see United going in for Vardy he mockingly suggested that Spurs would.

Yea I know what you mean but at the same time United need players that bring a fear factor to the club. Charlie Austin is not good enough for the club that competes in europe. Also the step up from QPR to United is big and it doesn't work that often. Look at Ings and Benteke, they haven't really set liverpool alight yet.

Vardy is 28 years old. He won't leave in January as he'll want to see out this season with leicester. This means we'll get him at 29. His last season only yielded 5 goals and its a massive gamble if he can replicate the same season he's having with leicester this year. I really don't think vardy is anything special, he's just high on confidence.

He's proven himself as a goalscorer in the premiership which is usually what United go for. As for age, RVP was no spring chicken when you got him in. Also United isn't as 'big' as it used to be.

Benteke and Ings were the wrong fit for Liverpool as was Lambert. Symptoms of Rodgers' failed transfer policy rather than them not being able to make the step up

Logic will tell you that this season for vardy is an anomaly. He's not a proven goalscorer since he's only had half a season of goals. Ighalo has scored the 14 goals whereas Vardy has scored 15. Should united now buy Ighalo as well as Vardy or maybe the season has gone quite unpredictably?

A proven goalscorer would be someone like Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku both of which I would love to have at man utd.

He decimated the United wing play. We got rid of Nani (a player that I lreally liked), Di maria, januzaj on loan (didn't really rate but he gave us an option), valencia (made into a full back), Young (playes full back more than as a winger).

He's pushed mata out wide and made our striker play on the wing. In Depay's first few games, he fielded him in the number 10 role for some reason.

                    That's LVG for you.

Where Miyes went wrong was trying to work with what he had rather than ripping it apart and starting afresh. The trouble is we can say that in hindsight but pretty much any manager coming into that job would have been torn to shreds if they had tried to rebuild a title-winning side so quickly.

I don't think committing to 82 crosses in a single game vs Fulham in February against a near 7-foot center back is an indication that he knew what he was doing.

You need to watch that game again. I did and we missed some glorious chances. There were 2 from rooney and a couple I think from RVP. The chances were created but the strikers couldn't finish them. Fulham were very lucky in that game.

Fulham set up with a very compact midfield. The only way around was to go through the sides and it worked but we couldn't finish. Some of the crosses were poor but we didn't have the type of players that could play intricate football like Silva or Ozil. If we had Scholes like fergie had then maybe we'd get a fergie time winner. Seriously, just watch the game again and come back to me because I think you'll find that we were very unlucky that game.

Also Rooney missed a couple great chances.

So quite happy with my transfer yesterday. Feels nice to see a change in my front 3.

Probably a bit sideways, but had 2FT and couldn't see anything else to do.

Felt like mixing it up and didn't want to get rid of Kane or Lukaku as it'll be easier for me to get Kun in in a few weeks.

Yes, I feel they do. Chelsea defenders are prob easier to pick but if you can afford Smalling I think he will fet the best return. We play Swansea and Newcastle next 2 games too. Both teams (as we are) are struggling to score at the moment.

United have the 6th fewest shots on goal in the Premier League this season and 3rd fewest chances created. Out of 19 games this season they've scored a single goal 6 times and failed to score 7 times. That's just over 68% of games with one goal scored or fewer.

At this same point last season, United were in 3rd place, had scored 11 more goals, conceded only 3 more, created 44 more chances, had 33 more shots on goal, and had conceded 35 more chances and 34 more shots on goal.

Looking at sacking Barkley for a few weeks to bring in Arnie by my sell price price is only 7.1, can everybody else sell him so that i can afford to buy him back in 3/4 weeks!

Feels like punishment selling these guys like Vardy and Mahrez too when the buy back may not b an option.

Don't tempted. Everyone will jump on him as soon as he gets a haul. The guys stalling on him are trying to make sure few as possible get that initial haul before they jump on. Yes owning him is a risk and you will get blanks but a differential Aguero haul will be a sweet feeling 🙂

Yeah I agree. Owning him this week and captaining him felt good. If he bagged a brace my rank would of shot up. He was unlucky not to get a pen. Similar to when I captained Lukaku last week 🙁

I feel bad for Bamford tbh . As you said he has only played in the Championship he clearly needs to go to a club where he will get regular game time he is not the finished article by any means . He was sent to yous who lets face it are a top half club with Europa League ambitions and are not in a position to give players a chance .

I remember I and a lot of Chelsea fans were super excited for Bamford after his last season in the championship, many were also hoping he would remain in the first team as third striker, such a shame to see all his progress halted so drastically, but this is what happens with the loan system and palace are not to blame. Hope he finds a successful loan and continues his progress because the kid looks like be will be a good instinctual forward with a smart brain for football.

Leicester nearly always deliver vs weak teams & are flat-track bullies. Though they've struggled vs good opposition & also recently (only 2 non PK goals in their last four). I can' see them not scoring tbh, like Swansea & Newcastle before them, this looks like it has all the makings of a high-tempo fare both way, IMO. Mahrez is certainly a good pick this week,
