Wayne Rooney bags a brace as United share the spoils in a six-goal thriller at St James’ Park. West Ham’s Dimitri Payet provides a goal and assist on his first start since early November, whilst basement-dwellers Villa earn a surprise home win over a lacklustre Palace outfit.

Payet Sparks Hammers Comeback

Despite falling behind inside the opening 20 minutes, West Ham United ran out 3-1 victors over Bournemouth, securing three points for the first time in six road match-ups. Dimitri Payet made an instant impact on his return to the starting line-up, netting a sublime free-kick before bewitching the Bournemouth defence to deliver the final pass for the Irons’ second goal. With a trip to Newcastle next on the agenda for Slaven Bilic’s unit, the 140,000 Fantasy managers that moved fast to recruit Payet will be eyeing further returns in the Hammers’ next league tie.

Indeed, investors have wasted little time in jumping on Payet’s overnight haul – the Frenchman has already enjoyed a price hike having attracted over 35,000 new owners.

Certainly, it’s difficult to argue against Payet’s potential to go on delivering points given his consistency so far in his debut season – he’s returned a goal or assist in nine of his 14 league appearances for the Hammers, with a 41% overall involvement in their goals whilst on the pitch.

Elsewhere, Enner Valencia broke his duck in style, propelling West Ham into the lead at the 74-minute mark, before cementing the victory with a spectacular free-kick of his own. The Ecuadorian is attractively priced at 5.8 but suffers from his classification as a forward by the Fantasy Premier League. Michail Antonio (5.2) – who carded two assists – arguably represents the strongest alternative to Payet with regards to their attacking coverage; the former Forest man has now played a part in six of his side’s last eight goals, courtesy of two strikes and four assists in the last four Gameweeks.

Nikica Jelavic could be set for a spell in the starting line-up after Andy Carroll was substituted in the 15th minute because of a hamstring complaint.

Arter Consolation not enough

Bournemouth are winless in four league outings in wake of their loss to West Ham. Courtesy of an Andrew Surman assist, Harry Arter – with his first goal of the season – prevented the Cherries from posting their fourth blank on the trot. New signing Benik Afobe mustered just one attempt on his Premier League bow, while Juan Iturbe and the returning Lewis Grabban were also called into action from the bench.

Matt Ritchie was replaced just five minutes into the second half, but Eddie Howe revealed that the Scotland international merely suffered a dead leg.

Rooney’s fine form continues

Manchester United squandered a 2-0 advantage as they shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw at Newcastle. The Red Devils played their most expansive brand of football this term, tallying double as many big chances (four) as any team during Tuesday’s action. The fact they shipped three goals and the most shots inside the box (10), though, could discourage Louis van Gaal from adopting a similar approach at Anfield next Gameweek.

Wayne Rooney had a hand in all three of the visitors’ strikes, bagging two goals (one penalty) and an assist. The 9.9-priced frontman now boasts four goals and one assist across three starts in all competitions, re-establishing himself as an option in the high-priced bracket. Nonetheless, there are still lingering doubts over United’s capacity to offer consistency on the attacking front under Van Gaal’s stewardship.

Elsewhere in the Red Devils’ camp, Jesse Lingard dovetailed well with Rooney for his second goal of the campaign, while Marouane Fellaini notched his first assist. As rotation threats, neither player harbours much appeal on the Fantasy market at present, although Lingard has huge potential with his alluring 4.2 FPL price tag.

Mitrovic in the Points

A tenacious Newcastle outfit snapped a run of four defeats in all competitions with a spirited display at St James’ Park. With just his second goal in 12 Gameweeks, Georginio Wijnaldum banished the Magpies’ three-match barren streak with a cultured finish three minutes from the break. All eight of the Dutchman’s goals have arrived in front of his own fans, so his 8% ownership will be relishing the prospect of Newcastle’s upcoming home clash against West Ham United.

Having drawn four consecutive blanks, Aleksandar Mitrovic got back on track with a goal (penalty) and an assist in the North East showdown. The Serbian marksman has shown promise but can’t compete with the similarly priced Odion Ighalo (6.4) in terms of form (seven goals in as many outings). Paul Dummett rounded off the Toon’s scoring with a deflected strike in the final minute that marked his maiden goal of the season.

Lescott Earns Villa Victory Via Hennessey Howler

At long last, Aston Villa registered their second win since the opening Gameweek, beating Crystal Palace by a solitary goal. In truth, Joleon Lescott was gifted his second strike in six starts when Wayne Hennessey spilled the centre-back’s header between his legs.

Afforded his first league start of the campaign, Libor Kozak (4.4) could emerge as a bargain-bucket differential ahead of a decent quartet of match-ups (LEI, wba, whu, NOR). At the back, Remi Garde’s decision to field Mark Bunn (4.3) in goal coincided with the Villans first home clean sheet of the season.

Palace Blank Again

For the first time in almost 18 years, Palace drew blanks in four consecutive top-flight encounters. Connor Wickham entered the fray at the break, but it’s clear that the Londoners sorely miss Yannick Bolasie’s fleet-footed trickery and sinuous dribbling. Indeed, Alan Pardew’s men mustered just eight attempts and one shot on target at Villa Park, which should be music to the ears of those managers in possession of Man City and Spurs defenders given Palace’s short-term schedule (mic, TOT).

Which teams do we expect to push on now and really gun for the title? It's very close at the top.

Is the return of Sanchez going to spur on Arsenal?
Are Man City viable triple-up candidates (Kun, KdB, Yaya, Kolarov)?
How about Spurs, will they fall away or is this finally their year?

And then there's the "minnows" of West Ham, Palace and Leicester.
We've already seen that losing a key player or two can have a huge dent on momentum (like Payet with West Ham, Vardy with Leicester, Bolasie with Palace) but with everyone fit and firing, can any of these three teams offer us a potential double up candidate like Vahrez did earlier in the season?

      - KDB and Aguero (23+ million in two players)

When, if at all, does it become reasonable to start to lengthen gameweek planning horizon to look to get players in for the rest of the season?

At the moment, I am mainly concerned with keeper combinations to see out the rest of the season.

1- are Rooney Aguero Costa the new 'must have' front three going ahead?

2- with so many midfield options (Alli payet) along with the existing top ones, in mahrez KdB ozil, how to fit them all in? Or is it time to experiment a 3-5-2?

3- it's visible that a new set of players are coming out of their cold she'll & performing as per their price & previous form ( Aguero Costa Rooney payet Ivanovic ) would someone WCarding be at a particular benefit? Chance to get a big climb in rank?

In light of todays lunchtime BBC news debate about whether England should have it's own national anthem, what's the view of the Scoutcast & the community?
Suggested on Beeb are Jerusalem & Land of hope and glory.
As a Scotsmen with our own adopted own anthem I think England should (if you want) have your own for sports events but maybe we could add a few more suggestions.

Heroes - David Bowie ( Hardly likely!)
I've got a brand new combine harvester - the Wurzels
2 Tribes - Frankie goes to Hollywood
Or a remash of Queen classic in honour of the constant bleating reminders :-
We were the Champions - Queen re-mix.

      That's for starters.
      😆

Was about to post something along these lines. I think this is surely something that the FFScout community will start considering long before the others and definitely a chance for us to increase our ranks. I've been rolling over a free transfer for the past 4 weeks and saving for my dgw planning as soon as we get a bit more info on it. With only one city, one pool, one everton and one stoke player, a fair bit of tweaking will need to be done on my squad before a dgw.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 22

This season we have revamped how we involve the community in our Scout Picks. Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

The big difference this year is the launch of the Scout Pick Champion Lottery. If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 9am tomorrow (Thursday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 83m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.
In addition, from this week FantasyBet (https://www.fantasybet.com/) are offering Community Champions the chance to win free entry into their £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22 by taking on our Scout Picks in a specially set up game ahead of Gameweek 11. In addition the eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55.
This is an extra offer that is available to any community champion who is 18 or over and not based in the US.
Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Yaya has more points, if you have Kun you don't need KDB

KDB - 4 games less, only once dropped,
Yaya - one of goals wasn't his but Silva, dropped few times, substituted few times early.

But yes... if KDB doesn't score big in next 2 or 3 he'll lose his place in a lot of teams.

Feck, didnt do KDB & Vardy --> Payet and Aguero as the concensus and my opinion was it was too risky to lose KDB with his upcoming fixtures..

    What's more important

    (a) Smalling sell off to a 4.5 defender this week in order to bring in Aguero for free next week or
    (b) Barkley out, Payet in this week for free but this will delay getting Aguero for a further gw

    Butland, McCarthy
    Smalling, Toby, Bellerin, Dann, VVD
    Ozil, KDB, Mahrez, Barkley, Alli
    Kane, Lukaku, Ighalo

    Thanks.

MOTD challenge is good, but it isn't anything like people say it is, i.e. watching games with no idea what will happen. For instance, if you have a defender and they are in the 1st game shown, you pretty much know that you aren't getting a CS, as they show the most exciting game 1st. Ditto if you have a striker in the final game, you know there is no haul coming your way, so while it is occasionally good, I prefer to follow at the time - then you really do have no idea what will happen.

If you can't be bothered reading the whole thing:

A factor that made this week all the more peculiar was that I missed the entire Saturday’s action. My fiancée and I had travelled to Bath for the weekend, on a trip to see her brother and friends of ours, and we spent the whole day in a pub with no Wi-Fi. The last I heard, Manchester City were 1-0 down, and it was looking like another bleak week for my side. It was after a few hours that one of the group, one who had not used all of his monthly mobile data on checking the scores when out and about in previous weeks as I had, made a passing comment about the football. “Did you see the City score? Aguero got 5”.

My pint crashed back down to the table, my prior conversation came to an abrupt halt. I processed what I believed I had heard, but knew I must be mistaken. “What was that?” “Yeah, Aguero got 5, they won 6-1”. Joy was etched across my face; I had become resigned to failure, and had almost forgotten about the football. The smile spread, turning to laugher. I repeated “Five? Five!?” over and over, those around becoming confused and, frankly, scared. Why was this Everton fan delirious about Manchester City? Before he could back away, I accosted my new hero, the wonderful man and his beautiful unlimited mobile data. “Do you know who got the other goal?” I was greedy, the rush of FPL points swirling around my mind. It couldn’t be, could it? “De Bruyne”. The news hit me like a freight train, the tears began to stream down my face, and I lost consciousness.

I've done something similar before where I haven't been able to check scores but was too early for MOTD challenge so before loading FPL I'll load BBC.

When you have say Aguero (c) and you see Man City have drawn 1-1 it's tears already.

I once had a Chelsea midfielder or striker (I think it could have been Hazard) and they won 5-0 or 5-1 or something and saw it on BBC. Checked FPL and my guy got an assist and no bonus! Gutted.

That's awful, nothing worse than the moment of hope at a huge score in the match, then the realisation that your player(s) did nothing (would have been like that for Barkley owners when we put 6 past Sunderland).

thought the same thing last night when I saw it on SSN, it hit him in the chest and he almost backheeled it in. Theres been a lot more dubious OGs from keepers this season

If you google it there is an article in the irish mirror about Foster and he says he is still not 100% and you would have to ask Foster and Pulis . I don't think Myhill is first choice

Hadn't seen them yet, oh man he is one hell of a player.

The way he takes that free kick is sublime, just places it perfectly in the corner.

Beyond the goal and assist, he was just brilliant! Considering the guy's been out for a chunk, his vision and touch was just class!

Let's just get some perspective here. He's the best WHU player, which isn't that difficult.

Considering Spurs currently have the most solid defence, would you consider to bring in Lloris even if you also have Toby in your team?
