The Indian Premier League’s 2016 season gets underway on Saturday 9th April with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants. For those wanting to take part in the Fantasy game, which can be found here, I have prepared this overview of the key rules as well as set up a FFScout community mini-league.

What’s new?

For those that have played before, at first glance it appears that little has changed from previous years. However, you will notice that there are no Chennai Super Kings or Rajasthan Royals teams this year. For reasons too complicated to go into, these teams have been replaced for two years by the aforementioned Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions. This means that marquee players such as MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Steve Smith & FAF du Plessis amongst others are now at different teams. It’s worth familiarising yourself with the eight squads as there has been a fair bit of change throughout.

Also it looks like they have done away with the ‘uncapped’ players feature this year. On previous versions any Indian player who hadn’t appeared for India in an International match was categorized as ‘uncapped’, and for each of the 43 group stage matches and knock-out matches you could make one free uncapped change. This always came in handy for those that had burnt through too many of the 80 available transfers in the first few games. Alas this appears now to be gone.

The Rules

You have a budget of 100 and must select 11 players. You can pick a maximum of six players from any IPL franchise. Overseas players are denoted in the player list by the aeroplane icon and you may only select four overseas players in your team. Your IPL Fantasy team, at any given time, must be composed of:

  • Between four and five batsmen
  • One wicket-keeper
  • Between one and four all-rounders
  • Between two and five bowlers

When you select players into your team, it is possible to filter by country, category, value and by a name search. It is also possible to only show players you have space for in your team and are able to afford.

When you have found a player you would like to have in your team, please click on the green + button. The player will be added to your team. If you regret a player purchase (before saving), simply click on the red ‘x’ button next to the player and he will be removed again.

Once you have selected your team, you must select a Power Player, who will score double points.

When you have finalised your team and Power Player, you must select a team name and the team that you support. Press ‘Submit’ and congratulations – you have entered the game!

Transfers

Up until the scheduled start of the first fixture of the 2016 IPL (April 9th) you can make unlimited transfers to your team.

During the tournament, you will have the following transfer restrictions:

  • During the Group phase of the tournament, users are allowed to make up to 80 transfers in total.
  • Between the Group phase and the start of the Eliminator, users can again make unlimited transfers to their team.
  • Between the start of the Eliminator and the Final, users can make up to eight transfers to their team.
  • Please note that a transfer has to have been registered in our database prior to the transfer deadline in a round in order to count towards the following round.

        will get from GL..

KXIP basically have unappetizing options right now.. Key players all in shocking/mediocre form

          Ah...got it 🙂

Transfers are quite scarce this time around (no free uncapped sub 🙁 ) , so only 2 RPS players for me and only 1 DD player

I'll just assume DD are crap until proven otherwise, them and KXIP might be the whipping boys (again).

"I will open the innings for the first 4-5 games. If the team balance needs me in the middle order, I'm open to that too." - Rohit

"Jos Buttler is among the top 4-5 T20 batsmen in the world." - Ponting

I see no reason why Buttler doesn't start here.
