Stick with Yaya in UFPL (3pts plus new) or bring in Firmino (bou and EVE)?

Good chance Yaya will be rested for Newcastle game with CL in mind but not sure Firmino will start in both either.

    Thoughts appreciated 🙂

I didn't read that as being rested though, they took him off when they badly needed goals. We all know how that turned out 😉 I think Prophet is right, if he starts today I'll punt on him as I think Yaya has a bigger chance of missing out in the second game. Cheers

No draft yet but I'll be left with a lot of players from this double.

      Ddg,

      Smalling, rojo, pva, moreno

      Lanzini, payet, firmino, coutinho

      Lukaku, ighalo

^^ that was the loose plan but I think I'll probably be trying to get sturridge in instead of lukaku and maybe a wham forward instead of ighalo. All of that would mean dropping firmino for another midfielder too obviously.

Probably too early to make too detailed plans tbf as form injuries and motivation of teams will come into it.

        Experience and reliability.

Cisse knows hown link play and is a proven goalscorer whereas mitro is a liability that could cost them a game by getting sent off in the first minute. Newcastle don't have too many games left to take chances with so I think rafa looks like he is going for experience to try and get over the line.

Depends on my other strikers for GW37 and his form. Personally I like the look of Carroll if he stays fit especially as one of his games that week is Swansea who aren't good at defending set pieces.

It might be his preferred position but he's better on the right and Silva is better than him at 10 when he's fully fit (admittedly not very often these days)

      KDB

Much more goal threat, I guess it depends on how you want your No.10 to play and the characteristics of your wingers.

Number 10 is supposed to have big goal threat. Nowadays we are used to these Spanish attacking midfielders who just pass the ball around. Plus I think KDB has a better vision and direct pass too

Silva has better vision and pass, Kdb got shootings with him. But Silva wont be better imo, age caught him i think. He wont be fast enough, reaction's slower, sad days.

Silva has had, by his lofty standards, a very weak season. I haven't seen him reach his typically mercurial best very often, if at all.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Is the bench boost back in our affections

With points already for popular bench picks such as Darlow, Robles and the likes of Townsend, Lanzini and Leicester players sitting on other boosted benches are we finally starting to see the value of using this chip in the double gameweek.

Also - how is your bench doing and what is your reasonable expectation? By bench I mean your honest four benchees not Aguero etc on the bench for eg.

Martial played though so you wouldn't have got any of your bench on for him. He looks a certain starter v CPL. Also Lukaku and Fosu will likely get minutes in their next dgwk match. I think you could still do ok.

I think it's been a bit unfortunate that the DGW teams are still involved in Cup competitions which had brought about a lot more rotation and it's going to continue into GW35 & GW37

I'm certainly full of hope. I set a bench mark of 20 points as a good use of the boost and anything over 24 (my previous highest bench tally) as a real success story.

I think I could be on for 20.

Darlow (6) Simpson Lanzini and Gabriel.

If I can gt one clean sheet between Simpson and Gabriel (possibly only from one start) and any form of attacking points for Lanzini I think I should be there along with a save point or two from Darlow.

A couple of the high flyers in my league used there's pretty well early on and both got that 20 point marker,

I'm using mine this week and although I've lost Lennon/Lukaku who I switched to Martial / Nasri
I still think the 20 pts is achievable via BB

        Migs | Iwobi | Martial | Nasri (5)

only had darlow so far and i am happy with his 6pts

darlow, lanzini, gabriel and sakho would be my benched players this gw

closest rival wasted his bb chip and got 5pts in total earlier in season and i have 6pts+7players to go

but i hate that chip and can't belive i get rid of such a fpl powerhouses for likes of some random dgw players

very dissipointed in general even if i am likely to have a ,,decent gw''

45 points and a "potential" 23 players to go with the WC 33, BB 34 strategy.

That's a success already. Even worse case scenario of getting nothing from Gabriel and appearance points from the rest leave you with 26. Another clean sheet and attacking points and that could be worth 30 plus - real success story.

Ken Barlow's 6 points was welcome and unexpected.

The rest of my bench is Coutinho, Sakho and Simpson. I would have benched the Liverpool boys owing to the likely rotation. We will see how they do, but overall I should get a decent boost.

I think captaining Sanchez over Aguero is likely to be my main regret this gameweek!

Hard to say for sure but in all likelihood both Lascelles and Townsend would have been on my bench, with Fosu Mensag and Iwobi starting instead. Or rather, I'd never have even gotten those two Newcastle players in the first place. In other words, I'm loving the bench boost!

        • 10 Years

Yeah I agree about only having certain players benched because we knew we were playing BB anyway kind of puts bias on whether its a success or not!

I think of there was no bench boost then everybody's bench would have been populated by useless/injured Everton and Crystal Palace players. With the in mind the bench boost has made the game much more interesting, because we have been willing to spend points to sell those players, making our squads much more diverse.

          1. Fred54
            • 10 Years

Jonty was asking whether its a success or not and then asked us to list players who might have been benched.

I think that is flawed question because those of who WC+BB have set the teams up that way. Obviously our only concern is which 15 players we have overall, rather than who is on the bench.

What you described is fair enough and may have happened under the old rules of last season, but again, we didn't go into this blind per say, so we'd have known not to litter the squad with filler for the bench as it would take away BB slots.

There were plenty this week who just bench boosted and didn't wildcard. In my mini league there were a few of them, including the current leader. Most have used it as part of a wildcard plan though.

Too early to tell, depends on Simpson, Mahrez and Alli for me. I'm ok with Robles so far.

Most of my ML seem to have gone with TC Sanchez, whereas I went BB without Sanchez and with Aguero as captain. So my view on BB will be influenced by how I come out of the GW compared to rivals.

I don't really know how much my bench is worth, because I couldn't resist the opportunity to use the only formation that plays 2 midfielders. But as long as Sakho, Gabriel and Lukaku pull their weight, the squad is going to get between 8 and 10 points per player which is nice.

      I set-up in a 5-2-3 just for a laugh so my bench is slightly weighty due to starting Dann and Simpson..;

      Darlow Lingard Coutinho Milner

An unexpected clean sheet off Darlow but no shows from Lingard, and starters Lukaku and Martial not so good! Hopefully more to come later today!

My main rival used bench boost without wildcarding, only has 6 or 7 dgw players but they've all started so far, and he has Gomes in goal and Aguero (C). My other rival TC'd Aguero, I don't even own Aguero, and i've had 6 players benched. Terrible gwk so far haha, they've both completely closed the 60 points gap on me going into this gwk already.

It's been another disaster for me so far.

Four non-starters (Lukaku, Coutinho, Milner and Clichy), and currently I have only one bench point (from Adrian), and only 9 outfielders. I am also worried about being able to field a full team in GW35 (I had originally planned to use one of my two free transfers in order to field eleven player then).

So my Bench Boost has been wasted, and my wildcard to set it up was also a failure. This whole strategy needs rethinking, after the game-week has been completed.

The winners this week will be those who triple captained Aguero instead (together with any lucky enough to own Gomes).

I've never looked at it as 'bench points'. If you planned your wildcard around using bench boost, as lots of us did, then it's basically just 'squad points' isn't it?

My bench has 11, so far, but I wasn't fussed about who was on it as they all count anyway!

No, the BB was and is overvalued and has led a lot of people down a very flawed strategic road (including me).

It's worth 12-15 points. Sacrificing the wildcard (and taking additional hits in many cases) in order to bump it up by 8 or 12 extra points in a DGW is self-defeating.

I hope there are some good BB scores this week (I had Bolasie on mine) but they are only mitigating a strategic error, they won't replace last week's points or compromises made in future plans.

I have played BB this week after a wildcard last week. If I come out of the week with any kind of green arrow I'll be satisfied.

And that Spurs performance underlines why. Spurs players dumped in droves because of the mistaken wildcard/BB strategy.

Quite unlucky with the BB atm..88pts with 7 points from the bench: Robles, Sakho, Antonio and Fosu-Mensah.

16 for me so far (Robles, Ward, Bolasie, and Simpson).

Beginning to think that FPL have shot themselves in the foot with these chips - casuals can handle the odd DGW, but chips on top can make a huge difference. I've 88 for the week so far and have catapulted up my (mostly-casual) mini leagues - I can't see the same people being bothered to play next year when stuff like this can happen. It's too much of an advantage for the non-casuals.

My bench would have been... Robles, Lanzini, Simpson, Otamendi

Mignolet and Coutinho didn't play but I expect for Liverpool v Everton they will.

I have 12 pts so far with 3 players due to play another game. I think that's reasonable and I expect over 20 pts by the end.

        Jonty,

From all the posts below, I think many are missing the obvious but hidden benefit of the BB. Without the BB, many would have got in DGW players that may only end up playing 1 game. With BB and loading up on 13-15 DGW players, you are more likely to include more players that play twice.

Looking at just bench points (for those that you would have honestly benched) is too simplistic a view of the real value of it.

For me, it's been both good and bad. Overall I'm satisfied with my score of 93 points at the weekend and I did not suffer from rotation as much as my rivals.

Good: Firmino, Alli, Mangala, De Gea, Townsend, Smalling
        Bad: Lukaku, Ozil (c), Sakho

Arsenal losing a late goal was a sore one as had Gabriel, Bellerin and Ozil (c) so cost me a further 10 points. Relieved I decided to keep Alli over Mahrez but had I chose a better captain it would have been so much better. With 14 due to play midweek I'm hoping to get to at least 150-160 points this week minimum.

I'm off to the KP today and nervous as hell. West Ham are an exceptionally dangerous team to be playing at the moment. I'd probably settle for a point but we'll have to see how they react after going out of the cup in midweek.

Indeed. It'll be an excellent game that's for sure! Good luck 🙂 I have Lanzini and Payet so ...
