Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Looks like I'll have the team below for gw35, having taken one hit already....

    Do I stick with this?....or
    A...mitrovic to Defoe for -4

B...mitrovic and kdb to pelle and Townsend for -8

    Darlow (robles)
    Bellerin Gabriel sakho Simpson (smalling)
    Kdb Sanchez alli (lanzini payet)
    Kun mitrovic kane

I'd stick, wouldn't be confident in either of those hits paying off unless you want Defoe for the rest of the season.

    Which is better?

    A- Sakho + Coutinho + Vardy > Rose + Alli + Kane (-8)

    B- Coutinho + Vardy + Martial > Alli + Kane + Pelle (-8)

If in UFPL you couldn't swap players in/out during the GW I'd seriously consider playing it. That's the one thing that holds it back for me.

Tis good, I've enjoyed it as a side dish - two ways of playing too - Jonty has latched onto the monthly 1k prize and creates a lineup tailored to the month's fixtures. Looks like he's in with a chance of claiming that for April.

I know! I was about to do a brag post on it, but you've done it for me. 🙂

I look at my UFPL squad and then to my FPL one and think what could have been.

Gomes, Aguero (c), Kolarov even. think I'll dip tonight though as don't have Liverpool attacking cover.

35 pts off the April £1,000 prize. Still a bridge too far but lovely to be that close. I can still dream.

Also once again I must say to anyone playing it next season or having a mare in the overall rank this season, do focus on the monthly games. Much more fun and much more chance of winning cash.

How can you focus on the monthly games? Surely you can only do this by paying another £5 to setup another team? Or do you take a load of loans in the GW before a new month starts or something?

Yep. I think next season I may pay more to set up new teams as well - but this season if the month is going badly I take loads of loans in the final week of that month to set me up for part of the next month.

It adds a whole new dimension to the game.

Its a good game anyway, but if like me you end up with multiple injuries (I had 15 red flag long term injuries by November) then overall rank is impossible. Best thing is don't give up and switch the focus to monthly.

Yes I really enjoyed it last season, was top 10 ranked for a really long time it then messed it up late on by waking up too late on a couple of 12pm kick off days.. It's a real commitment!

Fell off the wagon even earlier this season, again just completely forgetting to wake up and actually do my team.. Despite being able to know the lineups of the first kick off I think I'm going to start doing it the evening before somtimes next season when I know I'll be having a late Saturday.

Looking forward to giving it another go next season!

Monthly focus also means that when you miss a deadline, and everyone does at some point, you don't have to worry too much, just forget that month and focus on the next.

Well the issue is simple. He is just an atrocious coach. Literally useless. He has won CL more than 10 years ago, he doesnt even know how and rides that so well to the point of getting a RM job. Literally unbelievable.

To be fair, he is stubborn to a fault.

But, he won La Liga with someone other than the big two (Valencia). He masterminded numerous wins for us (Liverpool) in Europe when we clearly were the underdogs, Barca, Chelsea x2, Juve, to mention just a few. Tactically he always got it right in those games.

He was never given a fair crack at Real, and he was never going to be. Wasn't the right appointment.

While he's clearly getting it wrong with Mitrovic, he got a valuable 3-0 win last week, and a creditable performance last night against City. He's put them in the safety shooting match. If he pulls that off he deserves credit.

He does deserve credit, but to be fair i wont give it to him since his mindset is absolutely wrong. All he did was 10 years ago or more. You need to evolve as a coach and not be in the mindset you were 10 years ago. What did he do since then? Wrecked Napoli as a team, decided to play defensive football at RM and got wrecked. Absolutely wrong moves and NEW always had potential as a team, but their mentality wasnt there.
If they appointed someone who can motivate better i am quite sure they are a mid table team easily.

I agree with a lot of what you say actually.

And despite my applauding some of his tactical masterpieces at Liverpool, I always complained he was too negative. We failed to win the title one year, because we were happy to go to relegation battling teams and "keep it tight" just because we were away. Title challengers don't do that!!

For all the credit I give him, I wanted him out in the end, and while there is always a group of Liverpool fans who (through rose-tinted glasses) would have liked to see him return (pre-klopp at least), I am certainly not one of them!! 🙂

He's so good compared to Cisse. Makes no sense. It must be a personality issue and wanting to rely on Cisse's experience. I can see another benching this weekend. But I'm happy to keep as we've see he is still a threat in 30 minutes.

Exactly it's so frustrating! If anything it should be Mitrovic starting and Cisse the super 30 minute pacey sub to come on to attack the tired defence, whilst Mitro bullies them throughout the game. Doesn't make sense to me..

Rose & Kane & Iwobi in for Martial, Coutinho & Gabriel? (-8)

    Or

Pele & Alli in for Martial & Coutinho (-4)

Don't think i've ever gone -8 before but no Kane might be the final nail?

Fosu-Mensah, Coutinho and Martial ➡ Aldy, Alli and Kane

May even triple captain Kane this week.

    For GW35, would you do....

    A) Coutinho > Alli
    B) Lanzini > Alli

    A) Becuase it works towards a -8 hit that sees Sturridge, Kane and Kun as my front 3
    B) Because Lanazini is guaranteed to not start, and Coutinho might (but I can write off Sturridge)

So everyone's first idea for the Triple Captain chip was to put it on Aguero in his double gameweek as soon as we found out he had one. Swayed by the fixtures into playing Bench Boost and it hasn't gone well with Aguero scoring the highest total so far this season.

If there wasn't so much rotation, bench boost could easily have been the better option. In fact, it may still be. 26 points from 4 good double gameweek players is a sensible concept

      1. Cradders
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Yeah this is true, but there was rotation. Aguero was everyones first thought for the TC chip, we were just swayed by the number of fixtures. 4 players in my team have become single gameweekers and I'd never have had Lukaku for a single gameweek against Liverpool over Kane at Stoke. So many regrets. Lukaku is never coming back to my team ever after this gameweek

Hi guys (Balders if you're there!),

I followed Balders DGW article as my strategy to close the season. I used WC in GW32, TC in 33 and then used 1 FT Ward > Cathcart (Like it said) and BB in GW34.

Now it says to remove your other CPL players (Hennessey and Bolasie) for GW35 and replace with Sunderland Chelsea players. However, if I do this I'll have 4 players not playing in GW35 (not including a GK) so I'll need to take a hit! This was supposed to be a hit free guide...

Any idea where I or Balders have gone wrong?

    Cheers,

One of your goalkeepers had to be not playing in 35 after transfers.

I realise this may seem a little unclear.

Basically, after making your transfers this week, your goalkeeper on the bench had to be not playing. So you must have chosen an incorrect pairing

          Thanks for the reply.

          "3x Everton players (DGW33, DGW34, Blank35, DGW37)*

          3x Crystal Palace players (DGW33, DGW34, Blank35, SGW37)*

          6x Arsenal/Man City/WBA/Newcastle players (DGW34, SGW35, SGW37)**

          * Between them these need to include a goalkeeper so that four can be benched in Gameweek 35.

** Have a goalkeeper from one of these teams to bench in Gameweek 37."

I chose Hennessey and Darlow so I was following what Balders suggested... Strange.

You obviously messed up somewhere. Did you save a transfer in 34?

Why did you go with 2 keepers without a game in 35?

    3. Jøssy ⭐

It was only ever a guide.

Balders was very clear that all of his advice was subject to the availability, form and rotation of the suggested players/teams.

Liverpool were a team the plan all hinged on, but they've been a rotation nightmare, and no one forsaw to the massive extent that's been the case (and I'm a Liverpool fan!!)

The DGW has not gone as we'd all planned, but Balders has certainly not "gone wrong" anywhere in his bery kind analysis he pulled together for the community.

      Own your decisions mate

        You're completely missing the point...

This question has nothing to do with rotation/injuries etc

I have followed exactly what he has said and can't work out why I will now need to take a -4 in GW35 to field 11 players.

It's not a pop at Balders at all! I was just wondering if anyone would be able to work out if I had gone wrong or if there was a flaw in that particular strategy in the article.

So looking at it, you followed Balders plan with your GW32 WC.

But the mistake you made was in GW34 you transfered Ward > Cathcart, which took out a player who didn't play in GW35 and replaced him with one who doesn't have a game either.

Balders plan suggested, "in Gameweek 35 we can sell our other two Palace players for Chelsea or Sunderland players", but you'd already used one of your 2FT getting in the wrong player.

You 1FT this week could be used to do Bolasie > Alli for example, which would have you fielding 10, and the 1 player you are short is due to that GW34 transfer you made.

I should say, that to stay on track with Balders plan of maximising GW37, you wouldn't buy Alli, but rather a Chelsea/Sunderland mid. However, I think this GW has taught us that nailed players with something to play for can score far more than out-of-form/on the beach players with two games.

              Hope this helps 🙂

                I understand but in the article it said this;

"In Gameweek 34 we can then spend one free transfer to sell a Palace player for a West Ham, Manchester United or Watford player"

Which I did with Ward > Cathcart...

What was I supposed to do in GW34 then?

                1. Jøssy ⭐
                  • 11 Years
                  9 years, 8 months ago

Ok... I've read in more detail then... I was a bit too quick...

So the plan was, you WC in GW32, and by GW34 you should have 2FT.

If you use one of those 2FT on a Watofrd player (as you did), you should still have 2FT for GW35.

Based on my previous comment, if you have 2FT rather than the 1 I was assuming, then you have the FTs to do the following, as per Balders plan (funds permitting):

                  Bolasie > Khazri
                  Lennon > Willian

The problem you have is that Balders guide says you should sell your 3rd CPL player, and since this is Hennessey (and you already have a playable keeper) this is going to be a wasted transfer.

My two transfers above is moving out one of your GW37 DGW payers (Lennon), which is impacting your plan to get 15 DGWers.

However, as I said, I'm really not sure how much I'd want to load up on Everton players at the expense of the likes of Alli, for example.

I don't think at any point the guide points out that if your benched GW35 goalkeeper was a CPL player you wouldn't be able to sell them for a GW37 DGWer this week.

Now pelle has risen I have money only to do

    Luk + FM to pelle + rose/walker

Worth it for -4? Otherwise means relying on Targett.

Is pelle fit? Why was he taken off? Best option out of rose or walker?

Walker has been more consistent I feel.

Worth it for sure and I'd go with Rose
