The draw for the first round of the 2019/20 FFS Cup FFS Cup

An astonishing 2,216 fantasy football teams did battle last weekend, in an attempt to qualify for the first round proper of Fantasy Football Scout’s Paddy Power Cup V. With our four previous winners safely installed in next weeks opener, there were only 1,020 places up for grabs…

As expected, the standards were exceptionally high and an automatic qualification score of 62 was set. [Remember, this is after points spent on transfers are deducted.]

A total of 990 fantasy managers made that grade, meaning that the 108 managers stranded on 61 had to rely on their overall rank to fill the remaining 30 spots. The full list of results can be found right here.

Qualifying by the skin of his teeth is 45,465th in the world, woodpecker, who takes the 1,020th and final spot. In contrast, 45,750th in the world, don parcheesi, misses out by the narrowest of margins (a single transfer).

Commiserations to everyone who misses out – a list which includes all but five of the Scout Contributors.

The draw for Round One will be made shortly and will go live on the site at least 24-hours before the gameweek 13 deadline.

I've realised how unusual my team is, compared to a lot of people on here, have a look.

    Begovic

    STaylor Rangel Hibbert
    Bale Drenthe Silva Mata
    Sturridge Adebayor RVP

    Krul Ramsey Enrique Olsson

Ok, maybe it's not that unusual, but there is a distinct lack of red kits in the starting lineup...

It is fairly different I guess, you not going to get rid of Begovic? Risking him was the last thing I wanted when trying to rotate keepers!

It's not something that's bothering me at the moment. If he doesn't play then Krul can come in, and while he's unlikely to keep a clean sheet, he's also unlikely to concede a ton. Maybe if he misses the next couple of games I'll look into it.

Is it stupid to be thinking of taking david silva or aguero out? Have I gone crazy? Just brought in adebayor and already have vdv, i'm an arsenal fan aswell...oops

      losing silva ridiculous
don't know what iv up with dzeko at the moment so for now aguero is nailed on
though it sounds like man city are after another ridiculously good striker (from italy i think) so maybe after the next window he maybe come too much of a risk again

but really ade and vdv.. tsk tsk

couple of views i thought i'd share:
    a) I thought Sturridge looked very good last night. best of that attacking 3. But he got through a lot of running and played 90mins in Germany. Is he likely to be rested vs. Wolves?
    b) Rooney news doesnt look good for those that have him (like me). That said, I have a sneaky feeling Sir A is up to his usual tricks and Rooney might just be available to start on Sat. Should i however ignore this, play safe and go for Hernandez? (finally giving up on Wayne!?)
    c) I've got a really bad feeling RvP wont score vs. FUL. Surely he cant keep scoring every game!?
    d) Baines. If you're going to own him at all this season, this is surely the time. 4 point hit to replace Kompany this week? Or wait until GW16?
    e) im actually worried im not taking enough hits this season! only 1 4 pointer so far...and i feel like im missing out on the really big scores!

      a) I agree, he was much better than Mata. I think he plays better in that position than in the centre, but I think Drogba picked up a knock.

      c) I would also agree, but if you don't captain him, and he scores, you'll look stupid. And if you captain him and he doesn't score, no big loss as everyone else has done the same.

      a. I think he'll start but could come off early - def keep him tho.
      b. I have had enough and am getting rid of Rooney. Have you got Ade?
      c. He will score.
      d. Go for it. Should pay off over the next few weeks.
      e. Wait until double GWs etc coming up for your point hits!

      a) I'm just guessing but I'd be very surprised if he plays for 90 minutes.
      c) No striker is going to score every game. But what striker is more likely to score than RVP? None that I can see.
      d) Taking a hit for defenders is a bit mad, but at the same time that transfer looks decent especially this week when City are unlikely to keep a clean sheet. Might just be worth the gamble.
      e) Your mad. I've taken a few hits and I cant think of any that really paid off. I've decided to now avoid taking hits unless absolutely necessary, such as RVP breaking a leg.

      a) avb rotates too much. sturry is in my team and that rotation policy is a reason to be worried. having said that, im sticking with him.

b)if u have him, keep him.
c)i had the similar feeling when he played chelsea and stoke. just can't go against him right now
      d) not for a 4 pointer. not this week at least. bolton will score imo and it would be a very risky move to rely on his set piece duties

      e) ....

      c) The odds on RvP scoring in 6 games on the trot would have been quite long before that 6 game run started. The odds on him making it 6 games on the trot now that he's already scored in the last 5 will be very short.

    My team is:

    Vorm (Begovic)

    Jones, Raylor, Enrique, BAE (Simpson)

    VDV, Nani Silva, Sess (Dyer)

    RVP, Adebayor (Klasnic)

last night used my two txs for this week with Agbonlahor/Barnett to Klasnic/Jones

Klasnic is temporary I though I reckon, I'd really like Sturridge instead. Thinking I might downgrade Nani to fund it, but to who?
I could also look at downgrading VDV to Bale, i think VDV will do better in the long run though.

Hey folks, I brought in Drenthe last week as a desperate replacement for Petrov (didn't fancy O'Hara's fixtures/suspension risk and didn't want to double up on Arsenal by getting Ramsey so Drenthe seemed the best bet, with his fixtures and all)

Looking at the fixtures for this week and Graham has Villa at home. We all know how good Swansea are at home and Villa have been poor recently, especially on the road.

On the other hand, Drenthe plays (should play*) away to Bolton, who aren't that hot defensively themselves. Denthe's blank was frustrating last week so I've got a decision to make!

Who would you guys play? The rest of my attack is Silva, Walters, Sess, VDV, RVP and Suarez and I wouldn't bench any of those just to play both Graham and Drenthe.

    Any advice/views would be grand!

I'd go with Drenthe, I had Graham earlier in the season, and he frustrated me with the amount of chances he missed. Drenthe and Baines look a good combo on the wing, and with Cahill back in the squad they've got someone to finish their chances..

Ok here's a theory. Every single gameweek (with the possible exception of the gameweeks after international breaks) it's possible to pick one of the City strikers who you know is going to start. This week, for example, you look at the fact that Balotelli and Dzeko both started and played a lot of football in Italy midweek, and you know that Aguero is therefore going to get the start at Anfield. Another example, for the gameweek after that: whichever players make no appearance in the Carling Cup tie against Arsenal will be pretty nailed on to start against Norwich. I genuinely think that if you follow this method, and you make sure you are able bring in ANY of the 3 city strikers as changing circumstances dictate, you will get on average 80 minutes out of the one that you choose per week.

So, here's a plan for Christmas. Get a second free transfer in the bank to sort out any other suspension/injury problems through your team, and.......

Each week bring in the City striker that you know is going to start that week. So let's say that Aguero and Dzeko start against West Brom in gameweek 18, then you sub in Balotelli for the next gameweek against Sunderland. Then let's say Balotelli and Dzeko start against Sunderland, you bring back Aguero for the next game against Liverpool, and so on through the crazy period of games that build up over that 9 day period.

I know it isn't totally foolproof, but isn't this rotating City player a better Fantasy option then, say, Van Persie over the same period, when he'll probably come off the bench in two of the games?

These things are always worth considering. I've never had the luxury at that time of year with injuries and suspensions, and now this year increased rotation everywhere to think it's a serious goer.

        Interesting take.

I think RVP will play around 45 minutes per game over the Christmas period; basically he'll start two, and be benched for the other two.

I honestly think my Fantasy rotating City player will get 80 minutes a game, because I do think you can always pick one who, barring injuries in the warm-up etc, will start. Then around half the time they'll get 90 minutes, the other hald be subbed off after 70.

What is the statistical basis that RVP for 45 minutes is better than the city strikers for 80 minutes? Even with van persie's golden form, i don't think that difference is in the numbers returned so far.

But anyway, I personally am planning on having both, and I don't want the idea shot down just because people rate Van Persie, because I do as well..

I'm not sure Arsene will have the option to bench RVP much, if he wants a serious challenge for a champions league spot again next year. Assuming Arsenal don't win it this. But they won't know that till May.

I said it was fool-proof just to avoid stupid "what if the player you sub in doesn't score, then you'll look a knobber" type replies.

I think it's foolproof, but the least fool-proof option available. Name me single big Fantasy player that isn't more likely to be rotated then my Fantasy City player.

The problem is that with a player like Silva you don't know when the rotation is going to come. With the City strikers you can be more certain, as I outlined above, hence opening up this opportunity. And all three of them have a great goal-scoring record when they're on the pitch; this is the equivalent of having one of them that plays every game!

I personally think Rooney could get a rest over the Christmas period. Just one game, but still,

In fact, I think the ONLY way to avoid your big strikers getting rested over the Christmas is to adopt a transfer-heavy strategy.

If anyone has another way, to get your big players starting every game at Xmas without spending trasnfers on it, I'd love to know about it.

Tired of all the "RVP is getting rested" talk... No one believes it enough to get rid of RvP anyway, so it's pointless.

Now Balotelli.. there's one who will start on the bench for sure.

    Vorm (Kenny)
    Enrique / Simpson / Wilko / N Taylor / De Laet
    Silva / VDV / Bale / Nani / Dyer
    Ade / RVP / Sturridge

1 free transfer, 1.8m in the bank. What would you do?
