The first competitive game of the domestic season warrants our first Dugout Discussion.

There is just so much on show to interest Fantasy Football managers, as Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City clash with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United under the baking sun of Wembley.

The form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will inevitably come under the closest scrutiny – the latter begins on the bench but Ibrahimovic starts; his display will surely be crucial to his burgeoning ownership levels over the next 24-hours.

But it’s dangerous to ignore Leicester.

Both Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy are on Ranieri’s teamsheet as they bid to play their way into our day one thinking for the potentially profitable trip to Hull City. Again, their performances could change everything, forcing us back to the drawing board in a matter of hours.

It’s a fascinating scenario and a fitting taster to the season kick-off next weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The lure of Valencia is strong.

Over the season, I still think Shaw is the one to have though... Must resist.

Leicester 1⃣️-2⃣️ Man United match report

    ⭐ players: Valencia, Lingard, Vardy

Leicester 1st half team (4-4-2): Schmeichel; Simpson, Huth, Morgan (c), Fuchs; Mahrez, King, Drinkwater, Albrighton; Okazaki, Vardy.

Man United 1st half team (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Fellaini; Lingard, Rooney, Martial; Ibrahimovic.

10’’ Martials twists and weaves around Simpson but his shot deep into the box hits the side netting.
12’’ Rooney’s header saved with ease by Schmeichel. ♜
16’’ Fellaini shot on the turn is weak but Schmeichel saves, spills it and collects again before Lingard could get onto it. ♜
19’’ Vardy sets up Okazaki who takes a shot from the edge of the box. It’s deflected and just goes inches past the post. Corner for Leicester.
20’’ Okazaki’s header from the resulting corner hits the crossbar.
32’’ What a goal from Lingard! He receives the ball from Rooney just outside the halfway mark and goes on a run. He passes two Leicester players and then beats Simpson as if he wasn’t there. With a composed finish, he slots it passed Schmeichel for the opener! ⚽
37’’ King’s header goes wide from a Leicester corner.
40’’ Simpson is booked for a foul on Rooney. ⚠️

Leicester 2nd half team (4-4-2): Schmeichel; Simpson, Huth, Morgan (c), Fuchs; Mahrez, King, Drinkwater, Gray; Musa, Vardy.

Man United 1st half team (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Fellaini; Lingard, Rooney, Martial; Ibrahimovic.

53’’ Fellaini intercepts Musa’s pass to Vardy and sends a backpass to De Gea. But it’s too short! Vardy pounces onto it and rounds De Gea to finish from a tight enough angle. Game on! ⚽
55’’ Andy King goes into the book now for a reckless challenge on Lingard. ⚠️
57’’ Musa switches the ball to Gray who gets a shot from distance off. It’s a poor effort and De Gea saves and holds it. ♜
61’’ Carrick subbed for Herrera. ↩️
63’’ Simpson and King subbed for Hernandez and Mendy. ↩️
63’’ Lingard (injured) subbed for Mata. ↩️☠
69’’ Fellaini tees up an unmarked Rooney but his shot is too central and Schmeichel holds it. ♜
70’’ Shaw and Martial subbed for Rojo and Rashford. ↩️
71’’ Bailly cuts across Vardy and is booked for the challenge. ⚠️
72’’ Gray’s freekick misses everyone and forces De Gea to hold it on short notice. ♜
75’’ Vardy is booked for a heavy challenge on Mata. ⚠️
79’’ Attempt by Ibrahimovic is cleared off the line by Drinkwater.
80’’ Fuchs subbed for Schlupp. ↩️
82’’ Huth flicks a header on that loops up. Musa is there to follow up with a header of his own but he loses his balance and it ends up going over.
84’’ Valencia crosses and it meets the head of Ibrahimovic who heads it past Schmeichel to give United the lead once more! ⚽
87’’ Rooney subbed for Schneiderlin. ↩️
90’’ Huth subbed for Ulloa. ↩️
93’’ Mata (knock) subbed for Mkhitaryan. ↩️☠
