The first competitive game of the domestic season warrants our first Dugout Discussion.

There is just so much on show to interest Fantasy Football managers, as Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City clash with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United under the baking sun of Wembley.

The form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will inevitably come under the closest scrutiny – the latter begins on the bench but Ibrahimovic starts; his display will surely be crucial to his burgeoning ownership levels over the next 24-hours.

But it’s dangerous to ignore Leicester.

Both Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy are on Ranieri’s teamsheet as they bid to play their way into our day one thinking for the potentially profitable trip to Hull City. Again, their performances could change everything, forcing us back to the drawing board in a matter of hours.

It’s a fascinating scenario and a fitting taster to the season kick-off next weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    and

Where can I see the history of a private league - last year's winner etc?

Vardy looked more dangerous than Ibra. Ibra needs service, and he drifted to midfield often to get involved, to no avail. Rooney and mata didn't get ibra the ball. If man Utd get Pogba, it could change. Ibra does score from limited opportunities though, as he did today, out maneuvering Morgan (foul or offsides not withstanding, he scored).

Another day of tossing and tinkering, I just can't settle!

I'll be going 3-5-2 into GW3 then WC'ing international break.

    Kasper
    Shaw/Valencia - JT (see how he is) - Friend - Funes Mori - £4m.
    Hazard - Firmino - Townsend - Redmond - Ramirez
    Aguero - Vardy - £4.5m.

£2.5m ITB. My defence is settled, really pleased with that but Firmino, Townsend and Ramirez are my problems I think. Idea was going to be Firmino > Alexis if he played really well today but I dunno. 🙁 Just upgrade Ramirez perhaps? Or Townsend?

I get the hype on Redmond due to his potential "second striker" role. But does that really make him almost "essential". Just because he is playing near the goal doesn't always guarantee good returns. From what i've seen of him (some games with Norwich) he doesn't seem to be sharp in front of the goal. And Southamptons attacking options (even Mane) have never really been amazing. Adding the fact that key players have been sold and a new manager having to establish himself. Is he really that good an option?

    1. Pop
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

I am more concerned with his playing time. Doesnt look like he will be 90 minutes guy, at least not in the beginning. Thats why i have Tadic.

    2. Ludo
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

He's a 6m midfielder, playing up front for a decent team, with a couple of good early fixtures.

As you say, no guarantees he makes the most of that opportunity, but 6m is a good price for a lottery ticket of that quality.

I remember when Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were debating who was better, Aguero or RVP, and I believe Neville said something pretty interesting when he said that City look for Aguero whenever they attack. That's the kind of forward I want in my team. The only good teams that revolve around their striker like that are Tottenham, Man City, and Leicester. Always looking for him when they attack.

Slow, poor service, drifted back to get ball. He could score a lot with better passing midfielders. He is like a big, slow, gifted center in the NBA who scores well when guards get him the ball in the low post.

He didn't do a lot but was starved of service through the centre due to Rooney's ineffectiveness in the no.10 role. He has zero pace also which makes me ponder a switch to Vardy or Kane
