Harry Redknapp’s Friday press conference brought us an array of interesting developments ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Stoke.

The Spurs boss has reported that striker Jermain Defoe has a slight hamstring problem, defender Ledley King is trying to recover from the knee injury sustained in training last Friday, while Gareth Bale picked up a slight knock against Bolton last weekend.

“We’ve one or two knocks…Jermain has had a bit of a hamstring this week, Ledley took a bang on the knee in training last week and Gareth has had a problem this week. We’ll wait and see how they are.”

Fantasy managers will immediately be on alert to the news concerning Bale and Defoe – for very different reasons. Bale has been a major transfer target this week and his possible absence would come as a serious blow to his recent investors. For our money, he’ll start, although clearly there is some doubt based on Redknapp’s statement.

The news on Defoe is perhaps more significant as it could directly influence the chances of Rafael Van der Vaart earning a recall to the starting lineup. The Dutchman was kept on the bench following a return from his own hamstring injury against Bolton. However, if there is a doubt over Defoe’s fitness, there’s every chance that this would help justify the re-introduction of Van der Vaart, despite Defoe’s recent form.

Realistically, if either Bale or Defoe are absent, Van der Vaart will surely start at Stoke – an outcome that will concern the thousands who have already opted to sacrifice the Dutchman prior to the gameweek deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

COYS to your COYS. How weird it is to be a Spurs fan myself, but a little bit happy that Bale won't play...I still think the mighty Spurs will win, but sans Bale means VDV can run riot! Let it begin!

"I would play neither" makes sense on its own. "...as I don't have either" doesn't work when coupled to it.

            "I will play neither" or
"I would play neither if I had both" are ok.

But, Goodfish, you have a better rank than me and in FF, rank trumps grammar!

Raylor for the attacking threat IMO. Kompany will probably concede and he made attacking returns 2 weeks in a row. What are the odds for 3rd in a row? he is defender after all

agreed on Raylor's attacking threat and thanks for the opinion.
I disagree on the odds for Kompany getting more attacking returns. Unless Mancini gives him specific instructions as a result of his attacking returns, the odds are the same this week as they were at the start of either of the last two weeks, i.e. low.

My team atm, 1 FT and 0 in bank:

    Given, Ruddy

    Jones, Baines, Naylor

    VDV, Silva, Ramsey, Sinclair

    RVP, Adebayor, Bendtner

    Subs: Moses, Simpson, Ward

I have some issues this week, most notably Given and Bendtner. Quite tempting to take a hit and downgrade Ramsey and upgrade Bendtner to Ba since my subs are crap if Bendtner doesn't play. The only problem is that leaves me with Ruddy in goal. Should I just do the boring Given to Vorm?

There was one Real fan one week ago or some. He has problem with attitude. He is partying all the time. spending the cash available. He even tried to invest in his place in Liv, making it a night club. He has the talent but no brain obviously. Moyes is giving him a lesson IMO. Not a good fantasy prospect. Sell, sell, sell.

p.s. Shame Rodwell is still injured, I planned to bring him.

I have a tendency to agree with you there Damo. i think Kompany has the possibility of a goal or even a bp if they defend like trojans...can't see spurs keeping a cleanie or BAE emerging as the best player on the pitch.

Kompany playing on Monday also sways it in his favour.

Walters - 30 pts in last 4 home games.
Larsson - you'd have to check that yourself...but likely to be less. Both on penalties, but uncertainty over MON's favoured team, players and formation re Larsson.

Walters is a classic FPL home boy....if at home you have to play him.

Thinking about Smalling or Evans but don't know how strong Man Utd are defensively without Vidic. Does anyone know what Man Utd's clean sheet percentages are in games with or without Vidic over the last couple of years ? So far this year Man Utd have kept 4 CS in 6 games with Vidic (66%) and 3 CS in 8 games w/o Vidic (37.5%). Smallish sample but I wonder if that's not in the ball park over the last couple years.

I think we need to be very careful about deducing anything from these sort of stats(and I'm a real stats man!-love em):

The games he played were Eve,Sun,Swa,New,AVL

The games he missed included Tott,Arse,Chel,Liv,MCFC

I think he missed out on the games they are more likely to concede in.

I hear you. I just wonder over 1-2 years what the percentages are. I had planned to bring in Vidic next week but have had to change plans obviously. Just wondering if Smalling in particular may still be worth it.

          Sorry been out.

Just had a look at the Opta stats for PL for 2010-11. Not too helpful as he started 35 of 38 games and Man U conceded 33 goals in those 35 with 13 clean sheets(37%). In the other 3 games they conceded 4 goals but had 2 clean sheets(50%!!). Insufficient data to read too much in to it and not worth going back too much further as totally different team.

I'd say walters, even if stoke get battered, walters always seems to be the one with the consolation or at least involved in an assist for things, and larsson usually crops up with high points in 1 game, whereas walters gives that cushion of consistency, on spot kick duties also, there's not much in it, but walters imo i have him and he's not made me regret it yet.

Ooh.. As I have VDV, I'm certainly pleased with the news of Defoe. However, Bale is my concern. Will Spurs be less attacking threat without Bale?

nope, will be just as effective with VDV in my opinion matey. spurs will win still, and VDV will score 100 pts lol.

Considering future transfers and asking for an opinion, regarding Tot cover for the double.

Is the Bale/Ade/DVD (BAD combo or trinity lets call it like that) combo the best one there?

Presuming they are all fit. We could throw Walker/Bae/Lennon in the mix, but all 3 of them (BAD) have great potential IMO, they could go wild and most certain some of them will be captain for lot of the lads, (wow what kind of a debate/ captaincy issue will be that one, looking forward) meaning if they run riot we could be left behind a lot, like in the Dempsey case.

    Quick RMT folks

    Vorm

    Raylor Jones McAuley

    Brunt VdV Bale Silva

    Ba RvP Yakubu

    Subs: Westwood BAE Brown Tiote

Shoudl I play BAE over Raylor and rely on Raylor if Bale doesn’t make it or rely on BAE if no Bale. I just wonder if BAE becomes more of a threat without Bale in front of him.
