Romelu Lukaku breaks his six-month barren spell by taking it out on a beleaguered Sunderland back four. The Belgian’s second half blitz transformed Everton as Ross Barkley watched on from the bench having been hooked at half-time. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 4….

On the Rise

Romelu Lukaku
Without a goal in his previous 12 Premier League matches, Lukaku notched his first and then filled his boots as Sunderland caved in.

You could almost see the Belgian grown in stature and confidence and with Yannick Bolasie storming down the right flank, Lukaku was able to help himself to a hat-trick in just 11 minutes.

He could and should have had more – Lukaku registered nine efforts on goal, six of which hit the target – no player in any Gameweek this season has matched those statistics.

With Middlesbrough at home next, followed by meetings with Bournemouth and Palace, it would seem that Everton’s fearsome front man has found form just as the fixtures fall into his lap.

Should he return points against Boro, those who brought in Lukaku for Aguero may well face a difficult decision come Gameweek 6.

Yannick Bolasie
A barnstorming performance from the DR Congo winger terrorised the Sunderland defence which culminated in him laying on Lukaku’s second with a sublime run and cross.

While Bolasie’s 6.0 price tag looked a step too far at Palace, in this kind of form and with Lukaku converting his supply, it suddenly seems very tempting indeed.

The winger was replaced late on with a knock, although he appeared to be suffering from cramp.

Leighton Baines
Back to back clean sheets and two bonus points tonight, Baines is up and running without finding assists or converting a spot-kick as yet.

The aforementioned fixtures could offer further returns, with Koeman’s Everton looking far more secure and efficient than the version under Roberto Martinez.

In Decline

Ross Barkley
Koeman’s ruthless decision to hook an ineffective Barkley sent a sure-fire message that will have shook the midfielder’s 18.6% ownership.

Brought in by over 60,000 prior to Gameweek 4 ahead of Everton’s favourable schedule, it’s now clear that Barkley’s pitch time is far from secure – Koeman will not be as lenient as Martinez with an inconsistent Barkley.

Everton’s second half transformation without him certainly puts Barkley’s start against β€˜Boro in doubt.

Mason Holgate
Owned by 7.1% and transferred in by no less than 180,000 FPL managers heading into the Gameweek, it nonetheless came as no surprise when the 19-year-old gave way to Seamus Coleman.

It was convenient while it lasted but Holgate’s opportunities will now be limited at best. Even if Koeman switches to a three-man defence, he would seem unlikely to earn starts.

Patrick van Aanholt
The Dutchman stuck to his guns against a lively Bolasie in the first half but bizarrely, with Bolasie swapping flanks, he struggled in the second 45.

Caught out of position on numerous occasions, he may yet come under threat, although Moyes’ options appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Chips...

I know this may be a bit obvious but:
Am I correct in saying that the 'All Out Attack' is not very useful and can be used in any GW that you wish?
Whereas 'Triple Captain' & Bench Boost' should be kept for a double GW?

Yes, aoa is for weeks where you have a terrible 3rd defensive option or have a great list of mids/fwds that you can't bring yourself to bench....I'm literally thinking of playing it this week so that i can ease my conscience with capoue. My 3rd,4th and 5th defenders have terrible form and fixtures.

Anyone thinking of going with a front line of Aguero, Ibra, Lukaku?

I'm a - 4 away next week when Aguero returns and it's mightily tempting.

several options for this week ,try to keep wc for later. So you would:
    Foster
    Shaw-McAuley-Stones
    Hazard-Sanchez-Eriksen-Firmino
    Zlatan-Defoe-Gray
    Jakup-Hojbjerg-Amat-Friend

    a)save to bring Kun
b)Defoe to Iheanacho,Sanchez to Antonio for a hit
    c)something better

    Good morning fellas.
So Lukaku scoring a hat trick puts up another dilemma. Is he essential now? I saw yesterdays match the first 2 goals were mere tap ins ( close range headers 4 yards) and the 3rd goal was offside. Do you feel he will continue to rack the points in the same way as he did yesterday? Also will Barkley retain his place after such underwhelming display?

No. He's always been capable of massive hauls and over the course of the season he scores a lot of points. I intend to stay clear of him just because I've been burned before, and he's too hot and cold for me. I'm planning to go with Ibra and Aguero so no room for a 9.0 third forward, but fair play to those who captained him last night.

Barkley had a stinker but I don't believe that there's too much competition for his place, mostly wide position competition. Besic is out for the forseeable future, Deulofeumoved to a more central position in his place maybe. I think he'll keep his place in the EVE team but wont be in mine!

Looks like I'll be going without Kun for a while now. Anyone here thinking similar?

Might go for KDB/Sterling for cover.

It's a viable option that I was considering but probbaly gonna get him in next GW.

Don't pick a player for the sake of 'cover' btw, pick them if they are the best option.

If you are gonna go without, I think you need to have Ibra and Sanchez becuase they are the best captain option with good fixtures in the next few weeks. Probably need Haz too.

KDB looked really good mate. He did well last season too when people didn't had Aguero. The thing is the money can be spent on 3 heavy hitting midfielders + Antonio + Capoue.

I know, I watched the game and he was immense.

He still looks terrible fpl value to me regardless.

If you are going with out Kun, the most imporant thing is to have the next bst captain options. And be careful with GW6 because Arsenal play chelsea and Ibra plays Leicester. You may want to have a plan to buy Mane or Firmino then to captain against HUL.

KDBs output with Kun in the lineup a thing to consider. He plays deeper and Kun is the focal point of attack.

You are right, but Pep will surely give him now a free role one would imagine. And he could easily end up being top midfield point scorer this season. I personally think, City might have different goalscorers with their playing style.

Best time to WC? I'm undecided at the moment, allot of people in my ML have already wildcarded.

I've just transferred in Antonio for Lamela (Mainly due to gametime and also west ham fixtures), so used my FT this week. My team looks like this for this GW

    De Gea
    Walk, Stones, Friend
    Hazard, Firmino, Antonio, Redmond
    Ibrahimovic, Kane, Rondon

    Subs: Jakupovic, Fletcher, Dawson, Amat

Got in High on the baps even without a goal or assist, is potentially on pen's, Everton look defensively strong...yes it was Sunderland but the also have some decent fixtures.

I'm in a similar position, at this moment in time I'm going with Snodgrass but I'm hoping someone will pop up this weekend and make me change my mind.

Two weeks of tinkering and you left it at 11.29. Lol great move..

I did my WC too and brought in Mane (C) for Sanchez at 11.25 😎 but also cut Cazorla for Ozil πŸ™

I am really thinking of using my wildcard for this gameweek. I only have one injury to my team , Terry.

    this is my team,
    Courtoius, Heaton
    Terry,shaw,stones, friend, mcauley.
    barkley,townsend, lamela, hazard, capoue,
    Imbra, vardy, Negrado

Since Chelsea got a hectic few game weeks, I am thinking of using my wildcard to take out terry and courtois, I want to put walker and steelkenburg. I also want to change my midfield around.

what are your thoughts guys, is it to early to use the wildcard now or keep it for later.

It's not bad just did not do too well this week. Like the moves especially Walker. I never seem to have transfer free to get him in.

How many games has Aguero got left of is suspension, does he just miss the Ballmouth game or does he miss the Swansea game as well ?

I wonder can 433 become a viable option for those considering it, rather than having to depend on the likes of Snodgrass, Zaha price range to produce over the next few months。

Payet for sure, Antonios goals will dry up whilst Payet's creativity will not!

Could be Payet's creativity that's creating the goals perhaps

Can't knock Antonios hot streak or price for that matter though. Both very good options over the next few weeks!
