There’s now little debate required – we need to get Eden Hazard in our squads.

Watching him bewitch the Everton defence, weaving patterns with Diego Costa and a revitalised Pedro was evidence enough. Dive into the numbers, and it’s confirmed.

Seven goals in his last eight matches for club and country. Underneath, Hazard’s vital statistics – particularly his goal threat – are outperforming even his Player of the Year season.

Throw in the fact that he’s the only top bracket midfielder that boasts penalties, plus Chelsea’s irresistible form and an array of Christmas fixtures that scream goals and points and the evidence is overwhelming.

I’m struggling to see any argument against Hazard.

The real debate surrounds how we slice our squads up to make way.

Just days ago I raised the possibility of shedding Alexis Sanchez – the leading FPL points scorer before today – and now, in my squad at least, it rears it’s head once again.

I can retain Sanchez if I lose Walcott but, in doing so, I’m putting faith in Ilkay Gundogan and, also, restricting myself to forever scrimping across my back five.

Walcott is an unreliable Fantasy asset, playing as part of an Arsenal squad rich in attacking options.

Inevitably, he will find himself rotated. By choosing him over Sanchez, I will forever be clenched as the teamsheet is announced, or as the clock hits 70 minutes.

But there is a 3.6 gap between Walcott and Sanchez. Meanwhile, the underlying stats show that, in terms of average goal threat, the former is even outperforming the Chilean.

I look ahead to the fixtures and wonder if I can continue to get by with a restricted budget. If Gundogan can deliver on his promise and if Jose Holebas and Gareth McAuley are enough.

Sacrificing Sanchez will dissolve such concerns. If he frustrates, I will have the funds to replace Walcott, perhaps with a second Liverpool midfielder, while still having the means to upgrade the defence to seize upon Chelsea’s obvious and unparalleled resilience.

Sanchez could very easily end the season as the top scoring FPL asset – although Hazard will likely have a say in that.

But retaining Sanchez restricts the flexibility to react to form and fixtures and, if I keep him now, he’s locked in – unlikely to leave my squad unless stricken by injury.

While he’ll doubtless gain me handsome returns in the meantime, will those points outweigh what can be won with Walcott and the extra 3.6?

It’s an agonising scenario – particularly with Arsenal yet to take the field.

Urged along by a volatile market, like a lot of folk this evening, I’m driven to make changes in the next few hours.

But I know that tomorrow’s evidence will likely provide answers – Walcott’s absence, an ineffectual 60-minute appearance or a steller display would make the decision far easier.

I’m likely to watch prices rise and fall tonight, waiting for more evidence before making what seems a crunch decision.

But one choice is already made – Hazard will be in my lineup for Gameweek 12.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

*warning* - post not about Hazard or Chelsea

Been monitoring West Ham over the season quite closely, and it's pretty clear now the impact Obiang has had on the team. The return of Cresswell, coupled with his introduction into the CDM role has tightened them up massively. Almost as effective as Kante for Leicester and Gueye for Everton.

I think the main think to note from this is that West Ham look likely to continue in this vein for the forseeable future, and their attacking assets are probably not worth looking at. Cresswell/Reid could start racking up points once the tough fixtures clear

Cresswell could be gold at wing back, def thinking about it but still need more clean sheets from them for them to convince me

Nobody to score them until Carroll returns though. He could be one to get in when back. Payet is too expensive for the way West Ham are now set up

Switching Sanchez, Coutinho to Hazard, Wally for -4 good idea?
That change would give me option to make Allen -> Pedro/Lallana/Antonio

    1. Dasher0303
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

Not for me, Coutinho will be Liverpool top scorer and Allen is on form at the moment so would want to get rid of him with stoke fixtures. Also, Sanchez is better option than Walcott if he's playing up front, Walcott will get rotated and more injury prone.

Which way to get hazard for a hit??

    A. Smith and Sanchez to Alonso/Azpi and Haz

    B. Lallana and Walcott to Hazard and Allen/Matic

    C. Walcott and Lukaku to Haz and Vokes/Rondon

Essentials this season: Hazard, Costa, Lukaku, Coutinho - the lack of European football is helping these guys massively.

The question marks are around some the European football playing teams:

    Arsenal - Sanchez or Walcott
    Southampton - Redmond or Austin
Man City - Aguero or KDB

Until Man Utd and Spurs improve their form it is not worth considering their attacking assets.

Are we all missing a trick with city here?

    KDB 62 points
    Aguero 61 points

    KDB 2 goals, 8 assists 12 bonus
    Aguero 8 goals, 1 assist, 13 bonus

    KDB 9+ points hauls 3
    Aguero 9+ points hauls 3

Kdb 2.3 cheaper than aguero, if going 352 would definitly consider kdb as the better option, in a 343 maybe costa, lukaku then a cheap 3rd with a heavy 4 mids skdb sanchez etc

Kdb seems to be going mostly unnoticed but might be the better value in the city team right now?

Hi Ruth, wish I could edit my post,

was meant to add that both have had 3 9+ points returns this season so kdb shhould be considered just as good captain option than aguero?

Kdb always amongst the assists and goals.

This is true tbf. He is consistent and gets hauls - a good captain

Still, is he better than Sanchez and Hazard? Not sure. I prefer Aguero + Sanchez + Hazard than all 3 in midfield as it would mean losing a Liverpool mid

            KDB Haz Sanchez Coutinho Firmino
            Lukaku Costa (4.5)

People have a longer memory than just this season and know Aguero is capable of regular hauls.

The word 'explosive' is overused on here, but it's certainly a factor with Sergio. Fear factor, even.

            Remember Arsenal last season though?

Sanchez was "explosive"but ozil kept ticking along nicely with assists bonus and the odd goal, became much better pick than sanchez over the season

Thing is that being unable to captain Aguero when he hauls and has, say, an effective ownership of 130% or 160% in the top 10k will REALLY hurt you if you don't even have him.

The same is not true of KDB. His EO will never be that high.

I have dropped Aguero from my team and intend to stick with that till after Xmas. But it is the captaincy issue that could really kill me, that's the risk I am taking.

This. Fear factor of not captaining for one If his hauls is why he gets the armband from most people, most weeks.

I'm highly considering ditching Aguero for Costa to give me the funds to be able to afford KDB, but not yet as Hazard is a higher priority than KDB and I couldn't fathom transferring Aguero out for a hit and not getting a City attacker in when they play Palace and Burnley in their next 2 games. In a couple of weeks, when Costa has hopefully had his suspension already, I will consider this move

I have considered this as well. All depends on whether there are better captaincy candidates than Aguero - as you'll need them.

I think if having Aguero out enables you to have Hazard/Costa, Lukaku, KDB and Sanchez then you've got four fantastic replacements that should see you through.

      It's a gamble though.

I can achieve this - worth it:

      Heaton - Grant
      Smith - McAuley - Friend - Holebas - Amat
Coutinho - Walcott - Hazard - De Bruyne - Allen
      Lukaku - Costa - Austin

Would need to change Aguero for Costa and Payet to De Bruyne.

I will quite probably lose Aguero during the international break to fund Hazard but will leave an easy route back which I'll probably use the following week. Can't see him starting against Palace so that removes most of the fear factor.

Will he still be a differential after this gw you think?

I have to be honest, since his return to the PL I've never been convinced when watching him, but despite that he seems to continue scoring regardless.

I'm still not entirely convinced, but hard to argue with his form, so I've taken the plunge and brought him in for Ibra to allow a Redmond -> Hazard transfer in midfield.

My other strikers are Austin and Kun, so Defoe is the natural selection given what I think is a lack of solid options in that price range.

Whilst I think I may be lucky enough to benefit from some instant rewards against Hull, I'm still a little weary about whether he can maintain this form in a poor side longer term.

Time will tell I guess, but whilst I'm comfortable in the knowledge that I now have Hazard, I'm still less comfortable in letting Ibra go and bringing Defoe in.

Hopefully Defoe can ease that concern with a hattrick on his debut in my team when he welcomes Hull. 😉

Agreed, he's not the most comfortable pick but he just keeps getting goals. It's worth sticking with him through a few blanks too - he will keep scoring all season and probably prove to be as good value as Austin

I guess you've got to remind yourself he's a 3rd striker. Would you feel any more comfortable with bony? With benteke? With Austin?
I'm not sure about him too. Think it's because he a) doesn't do very much in the games and b) plays for a poor team. But as the OP says, Sunderland might pick up now and he might get more chances against easier opposition so he's one to consider. Having a proper strike partner in anichebe might help him out a bit and prevent him from feeling the burden and blanking

Took a frankly ridiculous 16 point hit to bring in Hazard, Costa, and Alonso. Does it get any more points-chasing than that? My starting 11 is now the following:

    Pickford

    Lukaku - Aguero - Costa
