Sadio Mane bags an eighth goal of the season as Liverpool leave it late at Goodison. Daniel Sturridge climbs off the bench to help make the breakthrough as the Reds stand firm in defence to serve up a fourth clean sheet in six.

On The Rise

Sadio Mane
A late winner at Goodison took the Liverpool wide man to just one point behind Eden Hazard in the race for second spot in the FPL midfield standings.

Mane has thrived since Philippe Coutinho limped out of action last month, serving up two goals and four assists in the last five Gameweeks.

Frustratingly for his 20.9% FPL owners, Senegal’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (which gets underway in January 14) means they will soon need to make exit plans.

Nonetheless, Mane should still be around for three more Gameweeks, with the Reds facing back-to-back home clashes against Stoke and Man City prior to a trip to Sunderland on January 2.

Daniel Sturridge
Emerging from the bench as a replacement for Divock Origi late in the second-half, Sturridge needed little time to make an impact.

Earning the assist for Mane’s goal after his shot rebounded off the post, the England international’s return to action arrives just as the fixtures pick up pace.

Given that Liverpool play Stoke, Man City and and Sunderland over the space of six days from next Tuesday onwards, we can expect a degree of rest and rotation, allowing Sturridge the chance to build up his minutes after another period on the sidelines.

If – a big if – he can steer clear of injuries, Mane’s imminent departure could even offer Sturridge further opportunity to establish himself under Jurgen Klopp over the next month or so.

Nathaniel Clyne
The 1-0 win at Goodison took Liverpool’s tally to five clean sheets for the season, with four arriving in the last six Gameweeks.

Impressively, Clyne has now collected bonus points on all five occasions that the Merseysiders have chalked up a shutout, underlining just why he’s the priciest pick amongst Jurgen Klopp’s backline regulars.

The Reds are braced for a mixed upcoming schedule, though boast three excellent fixtures (STO, SWA, sun) in the next five that look promising for further defensive returns.

In Decline

Divock Origi
The Belgian’s recent form can barely be faulted, having scored in four successive Gameweeks prior to last night’s blank.

Yet the impact of fit-again Sturridge off the bench is a concern for Origi’s 8.7% of FPL owners and there’s every chance that the England man could nick at least one start off the youngster due to the hectic nature of next week’s schedule.

With Philippe Coutinho also closing in on a return, Origi’s starting berth now appears to be under severe pressure.

Roberto Firmino
It’s six straight blanks now for the Liverpool midfielder, who continues to toil on the left flank as a result of Coutinho’s ankle injury absence.

Although his compatriot is rumoured to be hopeful of returning before the New Year, Firmino – the third most transferred out player last week – continues to lose owners at pace.

Over 10,000 FPL managers have already shipped him since the weekend, with the switch to Theo Walcott looking very appealing ahead of Arsenal’s fine upcoming schedule.

Romelu Lukaku
The decline of Everton’s frontman shows no sign of slowing down after yet another abject display.

After starting the season with a goal or assist in six of his first nine, Lukaku has subsequently blanked in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

The schedule does turn in his favour from Gameweek 22, though there seems little chance that his current 25% ownership will remain loyal until that point.

    Please choose one:

    A. Alli & Alderweireld to Sanchez & Chambers / Francis
    B. Firmino & Alderweireld to Sanchez & Cedric

I'm not too keen on selling Firmino as got a feeling it'll bite me but it gives me a better defensive option.

Not keen on either to be honest as Alli and Firmino could both score big.If pushed go for B as you can always bring Coutinho in for a bargain price mid January for Liverpool cover.

Coutinho is in my thoughts. I was actually thinking of bringing Coutinho in for Hazard in week 20 so I can upgrade Origi to Costa.

No, I don't have Brunt. Would like him but I already have Foster and don't fancy a double up with away games at Arsenal, Southampton and Spurs in the next four.

The Hull game is definitely the time to do it so I might double up then.

I've got Siggy too. Was considering him to Chadli from week 20 as another option to free up cash to strengthen forward line.

I'd rather lose Alli than Firmino longer term. When Coutinho comes back he'll start through the middle again, you'd think.

I'm swaying this way. I like Firmino, he is always a goal threat and expect Liverpool to continue to outscore Spurs.

firmino is too expensive until coutinho gets back to fitness imo, so I'd go for B. Walcott might be a decent option if you are shy on funds

    Hi all,

Best defender around 4.8 or less? Can push to 5.0m if justified.

Current defence... De Gea, McAuley, Alonso, Holebas, Fonte, PVA

Looking to get rid of Fonte/PVA this week.

Fonte frees up more cash for any changes next week but SOU more likely to keep CS than Sunderland over next few. Have tightened up in recent GWs though so difficult decision.

Personally I would get rid of Fonte and avoid playing PVA against MU, next week I guess its up to you

Also, when do AFCON players (Mane) leave?

    Heaton

    Pickford, Cedric, Fletcher, Evans

Want Sanchez asap but not sure who to lose so is it better to save? Obviously Mane has to go soon, could get rid before Man City game next week and then downgrade Hazard/Eriksen/Kane with 2 frees next week

Not sure he will, he could, but the current line up without him seems to be working well. Depends if that shocker of a tackle Barkley did on Henderson did any damage to Henderson's leg. If so then there is a better chance Emre could start. I have Can and im hoping he starts.

    0 ITB with 2FT

    Pickford Jakupovic

    Alonso Toby McAuley Amat Holebas

    Hazard Siggurdson Eriksen Phillips Zaha

    Costa Kane Origi

Thinking of big changes this week, use 2 FTs to swap out Kane for Ibra and Eriksen for Walcott.

Way behind in my ML so also considering Origi + Zaha for Benteke + De Roon as well, as I need a decent differential and Tekkers could be the one. Will also look to bring in Sanchez after next 2 Chelsea games for the juicy fixtures.

Any other decent ideas? Could bring in a MU def for Toby as not sure hes nailed if still injured but would probably mean missing out on Tekkers this week.
