Cursed with a reputation of failing to deliver to form and fixture, while some have tried to dispel the myth, Romelu Lukaku chose today to slay it once and for all.

The stage was dressed and set for the Belgian.

With the fixture list driving his recruitment, there was a degree of forced faith in Lukaku.

Two blanks on the road had created an air of caution, but Everton’s home form was strong enough to offer real hope.

Bournemouth, as today’s visitors, were offering the biggest reason for optimism. Incredibly, Eddie Howe’s side arrived at Goodison Park having shipped 20 goals in their last ten outings, conceding three in six of those matches.

The script was meticulously scribed and, for once, Lukaku read and stuck to it perfectly.

It took him just 30 seconds to expose the Cherries frailties, ominously curling home a confident opener to tease the destruction that was to follow.

Bournemouth’s second half rally merely drew the sting from Everton, with Lukaku ending the match in riotous form.

Acquired by over 75,000 prior to today’s deadline, Lukaku boasted an ownership of 1.1 million FPL managers.

However, only 22% of those owners chose to back him with the captaincy, perhaps distracted by the lure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Harry Kane, having previously been stung by the Everton striker.

However, announcing himself this season with a hat-trick on Wearside, Lukaku chose Bournemouth as his next major victims and bullied them with a similar display of pace, power and finishing.

His 21-points ranks second only to Alexis Sanchez’ fabled London Stadium haul – Lukaku’s return today is the top individual score by any FPL forward.

With the fixtures remaining kind and with Gameweeks 26 and 28 booked in, his ownership and price will likely rocket.

However, while we can lavish praise his way this evening, we should not forget the frustration he can cause.

Stalling badly from Gameweek 11, Lukaku appeared stuck in a rut and unable to drag Everton from their Autumnal malaise.

But something clicked thereafter – perhaps the new arrivals on Merseyside, perhaps Ronald Koeman’s new formation – but the smile returned, and the energy and hunger came with it.

Incredibly, he now leads the Golden Boot race. Involved in 51% of Everton’s goals, boasting an almost identical points per match tally as both Diego Costa and Ibrahimovic and second only to Jermain Defoe for points per million value, the case for Lukaku is compelling.

Was there ever any doubts? Of course, but at least for tonight, we will conveniently forget the past.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

First time a hit paid off for me this season regardless of what Sterling does.

Anyone seeing Sanchez toiling in the last few games (because of the rest of the team...not Sanchez himself) might be thinking that nearly 12m can be spent better elsewhere.

      Especially with blanks incoming too.

But agreed, shouldn't be thinking about it for a couple of weeks yet.

    Hi guys.
I do this every year and lose focus on Fantasy Football.
Thanks in advance for any help given...

    Currently my team is
    Heaton, Hennessey
    Brunt, Holebas, Rose, Jones, Sakho
    Sanchez, Pedro, Forshaw, Lallana, Rodriguez
    Kane, Ibra, Jesus

    0 - ITB. Any suggestions?

Because, I have been toying with a wildcard team.

    Heaton, Jakupovic
    Alonso, Coleman, Ranochia, Brunt, Toby
    Hazard, Iwobi, Snodgrass, Rodriguez, Siggy
    Costa, Jesus, Lukaku

    1.3 - ITB.

What do you think? Shall I kick it in? or can is my current team salvageable?
playing for mini league but it can only be good if it helps my overall rank.
I still have the 3 chips left and top of the league is currently 90 points in front.
He only has AOA and TC left (which he will use at a DGW)

Downgrade ranocchia, defence is a little heavy in general

Midfield is awful...Sanchez, Haz And Pedro worth considering out of that lot. If no kane, then Eriksen or Alli

      1. ManchesterReds
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 2 days ago

        Ok thanks.

Ranoccia is only 4.5 and im thinking he will play every week too. My updated team is

        Heaton, Jakupovic
        Alonso, Coleman, Ranochia, Brunt, Toby
        Snodgrass, Sanchez, Pedro, N'Diaye, Siggy
        Costa, Jesus, Lukaku

        0.8 ITB

        Any Better?

Bonus reward players for doing their individual jobs. It can never be a perfect system but it is fine. Giroud scored and got 24 BAPS as he did his job. Alonso failed to keep a CS which was his job.

KDBs in form...why dump? Sanchez...maybe for blanks, but not right now.

      Alonso...smacks of a boat missed.

Jaku for keeper if don't already own.

Cheap defender...Nyom for WBA, Maguire for Hull, Mawson for Swansea

      Siggy, good choice.

Costa, yeah, I've gone back to him, so why not.

Why on earth are folk selling Kane ? He's one of only a handful of reliable captain picks.

I don't have him, but I watched the game today and he barely contributes. He missed a free header and for his price I just don't think he cuts it. That and the lack of GW28 fixture. The only reason worth keeping him is that he's on penalties.

Ah but he was involved in so many of those muck-ups when they tried to walk it in lol, all 3 attackers well owned should have had a haul today.

That's what I did tonight. Not sure but wasn't many other options that fit what I needed and didn't want to miss the next price rise.

Thinking maybe I should have gone snodgrass and strengthened elsewhere. Time will tell.

For me he's not a long termer. Maybe till gw28 is past then I will reevaluate
