Alfie Mawson nets his third goal in six Gameweeks, while Gylfi Sigurdsson rewards his Gameweek 25 transfer bandwagon with an assist as Swansea City sweep aside Leicester City. Earlier in the day, Pedro and Robbie Brady grabbed the goals as Burnley hold Chelsea at Turf Moor, as Diego Costa’s recent dip in form continued.

On the Rise

Alfie Mawson
It’s three goals in six Gameweeks now for the Swansea centre-half after Sunday’s volleyed opener at home to Leicester.

Although defensive team-mates Martin Olsson and Federico Fernandez provided a goal and assist respectively against the Foxes, Mawson continues to look the optimum route into Paul Clement’s defence.

Granted, a Gameweek 26 trip to Chelsea is likely to calm immediate investment, but the subsequent run of four fixtures (BUR, hul, bou, MID) looks too good to ignore. Swansea are one of just six sides currently guaranteed a fixture in Gameweek 28.

Priced at just 4.5 and owned by 0.3% of FPL managers, Mawson is becoming an increasingly key differential figure at both ends of the pitch in their battle to beat the drop.

Encouragingly for Clement, today’s fourth win in six also marked the Swans’ first clean sheet in ten attempts.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Swansea’s playmaker somewhat justified the decision of 229,000+ FPL managers to draft him in ahead of this weekend’s deadline by providing the assist for Olsson’s strike just prior to the break.

Sigurdsson has now registered points in five of the six Gameweeks since the Welsh outfit parted company with Bon Bradley, producing three goals and as many assists over that period.

While a trip to Chelsea may be seen by many as a deterrent, it’s worth noting that the playmaker has already found the net against Antonio Conte’s men in Gameweek 8.

Indeed, with additional goals against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Everton, and an assist against Manchester United, his fixture-proof appeal has served up points in encounters with six of the current top seven ahead of that trip to Stamford Bridge.

Pedro
While Eden Hazard and Diego Costa remain the favoured Chelsea options for FPL managers, the Spaniard served a timely reminder of his abilities with the opener at Turf Moor.

Pedro has now netted in three of his previous seven appearances and, having started for the fifth time in the last six Gameweeks, looks to have again cemented his role in the Blues’ front three ahead of Willian.

At a time where the Alexis Sanchez exodus is underway due to Arsenal’s blank Gameweek 26, Pedro – with three double-figure home hauls to his name already – could emerge as a real differential with Swansea visiting the Bridge next time out.

With a trip to West Ham also set for Gameweek 27 , the 5%-owned midfielder may well be worth a short-term gamble for those looking to navigate the postponements.

Would-be suitors should be aware that the Blues could yet be without a Gameweek 28 fixture (at home to Watford), though, if they progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup next weekend.

Robbie Brady
Handed a first start since arriving from Norwich City in the January transfer window, the Irishman’s cultured left foot denied Chelsea a fourteenth clean sheet of the season with a superbly-taken first-half free-kick.

Bearing in mind that Burnley current sit fourth when it comes to attempts from set-piece situations, Brady’s share of dead-ball duties could well see him emerge as a viable budget option for our five-man midfields.

Priced at 5.5, he’s owned by just 0.1% of FPL managers ahead of encounters with Hull, Swansea and Sunderland in the next four Gameweeks.

Like Chelsea, though, the Clarets could be without a Gameweek 28 fixture (away to Liverpool) if they clinch a place in the last eight of the FA Cup next weekend.

In Decline

Diego Costa
The third most-captained player in the Gameweek, the Chelsea frontman’s blank at Turf Moor means he has scored just three times in the last ten round of fixtures compared with 12 goals in the opening 15.

Costa has, admittedly, missed two of the Blues’ recent matches due to suspension and injury, yet there’s no doubt the Spain international’s impact has somewhat dried up – he has now netted just once in his last five away appearances.

Nonetheless, with Arsenal, Man City and Man United amongst the sides missing Gameweek 26, faith in the 35%-owned Costa is likely to remain strong as the league leaders prepare to host Swansea. Indeed, he’s already been transferred in by over 13,000 new owners since yesterday’s deadline.

In saying that, Costa struggles to convince as an explosive armband candidate at Stamford Bridge and has yet to bag a single double-figure haul in front of his own supporters this term. Meanwhile, Eden Hazard, whose blank on Sunday means he has netted just twice in the last 11 Gameweeks, has still managed to serve up 10+ points on five occasions on home turf.

Fernando Llorente
Replaced midway through the second-half, the Spaniard has been unable to build on his recent Gameweek 22 double at Liverpool.

When looking at our options up front ahead of Gameweek 28’s potential postponements, an in-form Llorente could have proven a problem-solver, yet today’s failure – his eighth blank in the last ten rounds of fixtures – hardly inspires confidence.

Of the six sides set to definitely feature in Gameweek 28, Bournemouth and Hull both have their first-choice forwards sitting on the sidelines through injury, while Andy Carroll missed out for West Ham with an ongoing groin problem on Saturday.

With Llorente and West Brom’s Salomon Rondon woefully out of form, it currently leaves Romelu Lukaku as the only appealing option right now.

Expectations are low ahead of the upcoming trip to Chelsea, then, leaving only a Gameweek 27 home clash with Burnley as his last opportunity to stake his claim as a viable short-term fix to cope with the imminent cup postponements.

Llorente’s situation is symptomatic of a dreadful Gameweek for FPL forwards – only two – Shane Long and Manalo Gabbiadini – have registered goals and that pair both miss Gameweek 26.

Am I missing something with these early transfers? I mean, unless a rise or drop would price you out of making the same move later, why are people making transfers? Injuries and clarity on the blanks could create a completely different picture seven days from now. I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm...surprised (?)

Yeah, wouldnt have made any early transfers...

Those price predicting sites shouldnt have existed in first place, only increases the rate of rise/fall

Now this I agree with. They've created a hypersensitivity to price movements that simply feed on themselves. They essentially create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Fair enough. I guess i just value the additional information more.

If Kane gets hurt next weekend and ManU somehow lose and no longer have a blank in GW28, I'm guessing you would have kept Ibra and transferred Kane for Lukaku instead, right?

Difficult to rationalise in a game where people sell Sanchez and Ibra in droves prior to easy home matches and then Gabbiadini is the 2nd most transferred in player of the week - second only to Mane who may not even have a fixture next week either.

I know whom I want in/out of my team and am moving early partially for $ but also for my own clarity.
Even with this amount of time between the two GWs. It may sting my in the butt later down the line but it's typically how I like to play most years though as you can see I am a bit of a transfer fiend.

I'm don't think I fall into casual territory usually coming towards the top of my leagues but who knows.

I think there's a large number of new teams each GW which also influences $$ moves particularly with the lower ownership players who have 1 or 2 stellar weeks,
Personally I would factor any new team purchases out of the price but I don't work at FPL Towers.

Assess one more week, 3-4 blank in a row is not a good indicator especially when numbers keep on dropping every other week.

I'm keeping for Stoke, will assess after that

So I can field 11 players for gw26 & bench Jones, Sanchez & Ibra but with Stanislas seemingly not nailed I may have to sell Jones as I'm not sure he's nailed atm with the defense without him keeping cs's. 1ft & 1.4itb

    Foster
    Alonso, Walker, Coleman, Pieters
    Alli, Siggy, Phillips, Stanislas
    Lukaku (c), Defoe

    Valdes, Sanchez, Ibra, Jones

    (a) Jones out - Brunt in or
    (b) Jones out - McAuley in or
    (c) some other suggested transfer re Sanchez, Ibra or Jones that I haven't considered

Best looking route here fellas? Likely need a -4 to get 11 out this week...

    A) Amat & Sterling -> Baines & Phillips/Snod (-4)

    B) Amat & Ibra -> Baines & Lukaku(c) (-4)

Wasn't overly keen on losing Ibra, but B gives me a decent (c) this week and I can then do Sterling -> Siggy (BUR) next week, possibly handing him the armband.

    Pickford
    Coleman, Brunt, Nyom, Amat
    Eriksen, Alli, Capoue
    Benteke, Carroll

    Cech, Valencia, Sanchez, Sterling, Ibra
    Bank 0.1m, 1FT

What price Mid does Sterling need to be for Benteke to Lukaku -4?

If 5.0 is affordable then maybe Feghouli.

Sterling and Benteke > Feghouli and Lukaku

That way you're losing two 28 blankers with two that play incoming. And getting/keeping the best captains for gw26 (Lukaku) and gw27 (Ibra) Get to keep your 2 Spurs mids for 2 homes in a row and avoid double Everton D that is bound to end in frustration.

5.1m available for Sterling replacement if going Benteke-> Lukaku. I know Benteke is out of form but he has MID and I'm struggling to get 11 out this week, so losing him this week doesn't feel right. He looks nailed on for the chop in GW28 though.

Evening DZ, team for next week will be

      Hazard Phillips Eriksen Siggy
      Barnes Lukaku(c)
      (Mannone, Ibra, Sanchez, Amat, Naughton)
      1FT 1.5ITB

Assuming all PL teams go through I'm inbetween these 2 transfers
      a) Sanchez->Mane. Would get Sanchez back GW31ish
      b) Amat->Funes Mori, Means I have double Ev defence at home to Sunderland, WBA and Hull, and 8 players for GW28
      c) Sanchez->Mane this week, then Amat->FM GW28

Good evening everyone. A poor weekend for my FPL team but somehow seem to have won my H2H in the league which is all I am left being competitive in. That has taken me back level again so it is a relief.

      How are we all tonight?

It happens sometimes I guess. I captained him last week as well so at least I got some smooth with the rough.

Yes the lack of matches creates a minbreak just now desn't it. Just as well my wife will be having a baby on the 22nd (C section so we know the date)

Worth a try, he had a great chance against vs keeper.
Mini break for sure if you don't make any transfers for a week.
Hope the birth goes very smoothly, time flies since you began the process.

I need a Man City player to bring in to my Sky team tomorrow or I will not have anyone to captain tomorrow. Obviously that will then give me a headache due to their blank.

Sane seems a lot easier to fit in than Jesus. What do you think of him as an option?

If Kun & Jesus start, Sterling or Sane get benched. Pep seems to prefer Sterling to Sane, so a bit risky.

Thanks. I think I am going to have to commit to using 2 of my transfer fund (in Sky) if I want to cover the City game tomorrow. That is fairly annoying

      Good Morning DZ.
The pundits surprised me yesterday with the view of the the Leicester game.
Firstly, I agree with the ineffectual display but not their workrate. I thought Ndidi played a really good game and worked his socks off. I think Vardy and Mahrez were bad and therein lies their problem. Kante not being there is a huge loss and their defence is unsettled. The 2 goals Swansea scored were good but they did not offer much more than that. Slimani could have easily had a brace. Claudio DOES have his players support but key player form is shocking.
Leicester fans be patient and it will come right.

Agreed. Mahrez and Vardy need to start performing. No point in sacking the manager.

They had chances but confidence so low atm. Vardy's "shot" 2nd half kind of summed it all up, horrid. LEI yet to score a PL goal this year.

Not good atm and Claudio infectious spirit wearing off a bit. But I saw a team that worked hard so they need Mahrez to find form and Ndidi to carry on the way he is and hopefully things will come right.

Oxford are now sat on 5 consecutive wins. They play Middlesborough in the FA cup next week. If they can continue the run of form then Middlesborough v Sunderland happens in GW 28.

I think this is on of the more likely things to happen and will certainly be having a little wager on it.
