Manchester City’s front three all get among the points in the first match of their double Gameweek. Elsewhere, Harry Kane and Dele Alli deliver double-figures, and Romelu Lukaku breaches Spurs’ resilient rearguard as Everton prepare for a run of strong home fixtures.

On the Rise

Sergio Aguero
Although we’re not exactly over the moon with a single goal at Sunderland, Aguero’s fifth strike in three keeps his momentum ticking over nicely ahead of Wednesday’s home clash with Stoke City.

The number one transfer target for double Gameweek 27, the Argentine persuaded over 156,000 FPL managers to wield their Triple Captain chip after scoring twice in cup clashes against Monaco and Huddersfield Town in his previous pair of Etihad Stadium outings.

Aguero’s owners will be hoping that history repeats itself in midweek. Back in Gameweek 1, he netted once against Sunderland before squaring up to Stoke in the following league fixture – a match which saw him fire a brace.

Bearing in mind that swashbuckling City notched five times in that recent pair of cup encounters, hopes remain high against a Potters defence that leaked four at White Hart Lane in their previous road trip.

Raheem Sterling
Second only to Aguero for transfers in ahead of the double, the winger maintained his remarkable run of FPL form by setting up the Argentine’s opener.

Sterling has blanked just twice in his last 11 league outings, serving up two goals and nine assists over that period. He has now provided 12 FPL assists for the season – only Christian Eriksen, with 13, has managed more.

It’s not just his output that catches the eye, though – Sterling has now started more league matches than any team-mate under Guardiola. While many will look upon the 12.8-priced Aguero as expendable once the double has passed, the consistent Sterling – at just 7.9 – is making a case to retain for the rest of the run-in, in spite of a blank Gameweek 28.

Leroy Sane
Firing City’s second at the Stadium of Light, the German now has five goals and three assists in his last eight starts across all competitions.

While Aguero and Sterling proved far popular picks, Sane – with a mere 3.3% ownership – has emerged as a canny differential for the double, with today marking a fifth successive start in the top-flight.

The summer signing has played all but two minutes over that run after being subbed off on 88 minutes this afternoon – given that Sterling has played from start to finish in just one of those fixtures, it’s a clear sign of Sane’s growing importance to Pep’s plans in the final third.

With worries over his pitch time now seemingly dispelled, those holding the 7.6-priced Sane may well consider retaining if they can cope without his absence in Gameweek 28.

Harry Kane
Shrugging off a minor knock in time to face the Toffees, the Spurs frontman continued his fine recent form with a two-goal haul in today’s early kick-off.

With many understandably prioritising double Gameweek 27 assets, Kane was drafted in just only 47,000+ FPL managers despite bagging a season-high 20-point return against Stoke last Sunday.

Today’s opener, in particular, illustrates a player whose confidence is sky-high right now, yet the bandwagon will continue to remain on ice as Spurs are, of course, without a fixture in Gameweek 28 due to FA Cup Quarter Final commitments.

Looking at the schedule from Gameweek 29, though, Kane is likely to become an integral part of our three-man frontlines, with Spurs squaring up to Southampton, Burnley, Swansea City, Watford, Bournemouth and Leicester City in the subsequent six.

Dele Alli
While Christian Eriksen suffered a rare blank at the Lane, Alli punished the 106,000 FPL managers who offloaded him for Gameweek 27.

With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both passed fit, Mauricio Pochettino was able to retain his 3-4-2-1 set-up, with Alli grabbing a goal and assist thanks to his central support berth behind Kane.

Now up to 13 goals and six assists for the season, Alli’s ascent up the FPL standings has taken him to second spot in the midfield pecking order behind Alexis Sanchez – all the more impressive given that he only scored three times in the first 16 Gameweeks.

While Eriksen continues to rely on assists – he’s now failed to score in 11 straight Gameweeks – Alli’s cutting edge may now see him emerge as the go-to Spurs midfield option for the run-in once we’ve navigated that upcoming blank.

Romelu Lukaku
Despite boasting a Gameweek 28 fixture – at home to West Brom – the Everton frontman was surprisingly dumped by over 161,000 FPL managers ahead of the trip to White Hart Lane.

To an extent, it was understandable – Spurs had conceded just once in their previous seven at home, while Lukaku had failed to score in his last four road trips.

Yet a strike against Pochettino’s troops took the Belgian’s tally to six goals in the last four Gameweeks ahead of four very promising Goodison fixtures (WBA, HUL, LEI, BUR) in the next six.

Already, over 27,000 have turned to Lukaku since yesterday’s deadline, and that upcoming schedule indicates he’s likely to remain prominent in many managers’ plans until a Gameweek 33 clash with the Clarets has passed.

In Decline

Kevin De Bruyne
Considering that no City player had started more league matches than the Belgian prior to today’s match, it’s fair to say that his exclusion from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI took many by surprise.

Having rested David Silva and Yaya Toure against Huddersfield in midweek, the City manager chose to unleash De Bruyne from the bench – disappointing the 6,937 FPL managers who took the bold decision of Triple Captaining him.

Conversely, today’s teamsheet certainly strengthens De Bruyne’s chances of starting at home to Stoke on Wednesday night but on a day where Sterling and Sane illustrated their mid-price value, the 10.5-priced Belgian left his owners once again disappointed.

Jermain Defoe
The most transferred out forward ahead of Gameweek 27, the veteran’s failure at home to City means that he has netted in just one of the last six league outings.

With the Black Cats set to miss Gameweek 28, Defoe is second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for sales up front since yesterday as the exodus picks up pace.

Nonetheless, a kind batch of fixtures from Gameweek 29 suggests that Defoe may still have a say – David Moyes’ men are handed home clashes with Burnley and West Ham in addition to trips to Watford and Leicester in four of the subsequent five.

Ademola Lookman
The winger’s run of three straight starts came to an end as Ronald Koeman named him amongst the subs for the trip to Spurs.

Priced at just 5.4 in FPL, Lookman had emerged as a viable, short-term means of navigating the decimated Gameweek 28 schedule after recently clambering ahead of Kevin Mirallas in the Toffees’ pecking order.

Yet while the Belgian benefitted from a second-half sub appearance to provide the assist for Everton’s second, Lookman warmed the bench from start to finish for the first time since arriving from Charlton.

Frustratingly, the winter signing boasted some strong underlying numbers but today’s teamsheet suggests that the pricier Ross Barkley – who earned the assist for the Merseysiders’ opening goal – remains the safest route into Koeman’s midfield ahead of those abovementioned home fixtures.

It depends if you will need to player Pieters much going forward? Maybe Pieters to Mori may be worth a transfer for this week and to have better fixtures if needed moving forward?

They have four great home games in the next six.

If you can bench then for liv and mun then their home fixtures are bound to bring points.

Those fixtures do look damn good!!!

I can play Maguire for 30/31 with WH and Middlesbough at home. I might make McAuley into Rose around then too!

I've heard a lot of comments on here about those people getting a full (or close to full) team out for GW28 will be "damaging" their team.

For me there are some great options to get in for a benefit in the long term with the cheapies that will play in GW28. Players like Carroll, Swansea defender, Hull defender are great players to have in our squads moving forward at a very cheap price to free up funds for the big guns we will want in, in future gameweeks.

Josh King is also a great 4th mid for those wanting a stellar forward three. Good fixtures for the next three (four if you consider Liverpools defence) and is on pens.

Obviously Liverpool assets are a great buy as are Everton with four great home games in six.

Seems to me that these players could prove very useful short term and for helping the budget long term. Especially if you dump any non-playing players in your squad to give a stronger bench going forward by removing the likes of Stanislas, Amat etc.

Posted last night but wondered what the morning crowd thought.

I have the following team after taking a -4 and I'm more than happy with it, even moving forward

      Jaku
      Coleman / Baines / Olsson / Robertson
      Mane / Coutinho / Siggy / King / Carroll
      Lukaku

      Foster / Aguero / Kane / Alonso

          Ibra to Lukaku
          Pieters to Olsson

          -4

Good team and I agree. For the few changes you may have to make down the line before DGWs it absolutely fine. Most teams will have to make changes anyway. Getting Sanchez for me will be more a priority than keeping Aguero. I'll probably keep Defoe for that.

Yeah that could be a good option. I plan to us my wildcard before the doubles at some point so hopefully I should be able to navigate then fine, but even without the wildcard, with how many transfers until the doubles it should be easy enough to sort.

Swansea are really turning it on in an attacking sense, especially at home.

I brought in King against Man U and he repaid straight away. For his price and playing up front/no.10 and with pens, he seems good value to me as he is so cheap. It's all down to personal preference though.

I think there are some players you taking a hit for is worth it because they are good long term options:

      Burnley: Heaton
Everton: Coleman / Baines / Lukaku
Liverpool: Firmino / Coutinho / Mane
      Swansea: Siggy / Llorente

Then there are some players who will be bench fodder and enablers, but will play in GW28: Jaku, Fernandez, T Carroll

Outside of those I don't see any good options. WBA fixtures turning bad. Bournemouth and Hull are poor teams. West Ham are average and inconsistent.

Yeah I agree with some of this.

Not sure Heaton is worth a hit going forward, better options I feel.

I think any of the "enablers" are great going forward as most have good fixtures if needed and can free up valuable funds for big hitters.

          Defoe- Llorente

          Sterling- Coutinho.

Also if the player you bring in this week for a blanket only gets appearance points then the hit is reduced to a -2 anyway. If it's any more then that's a bonus.

Yes I think so for certain.

It's actually a blessing in disguise if you've got non-playing players anyway such as Amat and Stanislas etc. where you can get a reduced hit of -2 to sort out your bench for the long term making it stinger while not having to spend on expensive players.

Perfect time to get in players like Tom Carroll and a cheap Hull/Swans defender to free up funds.

I'd 100% advise it if it makes your squad better moving forward. It's like a bonus week where hits are generally only -2 so worth taking advantage of.

I would say yes with 100% certainty.

Losing a non-playing player for only a -2 is well worth it. Hopefully you will get more back too but at the worse you will have a stronger squad moving forward.

Agreed, managed to field the following without too much pain:

      Jaku/boruc
      Brunt/Coleman/Daniels
      Mane/Phillips/siggy/king
      Llorente/kaku/Rondon

Many I've had for some time with good returns...Apart from Rondon of course.

Since I have only 5 starters for GW28, I am seriously considering wildcarding. This will allow me to field a minimum of 9 (up to 11 players - tbd) as well as having a squad I am very happy with going forward.

    Anyone else considering something similar?

    1. Pep says
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 11 months ago

No! Wildcard gone for the sake of a few extra points. Take a couple of hit. Get the main guys. A -8 for 3 attackers should get you minimum 6pts amd a good chance at returns. Wildcard in tact!

Totally agree with this. I'd save the wildcard for navigating the doubles.

Even if you only get appearance points this week from the players you bring in that's effectively a -2 hit rather than -4. If you make three transfers to get 8 out it will be a -8 but effectively a -4 so well worth it IMO.

Thanks Smurf. I agree with you on the net cost of trades for GW28.

But looking forward, I don't see that much difference between my WC team this week compared to what it would look like come GW32. (Of course, it's a moving target players coming into form, injuries and what not)

Yeah there is defjnate potential that it could work I suppose because you will have transfers after the WC to make adjustments.

I just want the WC for near the blanks so that I can get exactly who I want for the BB without making compromises because I already have other players in that play or I don't have enough transfers etc.

Like wether I have Sanchez or not is not a 100% cert and my squad will change drastically based on that too.

I just think it's a great week to take advantage of cut prices hits and keep the WC in your war chest.

              Good points, Smurf.

As Pep suggested, perhaps an 8 point hit (net 4 pts) to bring in Mane Coutinho and Llorente for Eriksen Sterling/Sane and Ibra would give me 8 players with a WC still in tact for GW29 or beyond.

Going to give it some more thought. Cheers.

Thanks Pep. I don't think it's that clearcut.

The way I see it is I don't have any Pool mids, don't have Kane or Alli, have Ibra and want Sanchez back pretty much straight after the blank. I can achieve all that, not take any hits, as well as (potentially) a significant gain in GW28.

Quick question, how many players do you have for BGW28?

I have 8 with 0 FT, is it enough?

10 with 0FT. If you have 8 decent players though that is enough

        My current team is

        --------------Heaton---------------
        -------Mcauley------Baines-----
        Firmino--Mane--Siggy--Phillips
        --------------Lukaku---------------

Grant, crouch, costa, eriksen, yoshida, chambers, PVA
        0FT, 0.7ITB

Should i be looking @ PVA to a hull/swansea defender for a hit?
Thanks in advance for your advice

not quantity but quality. Defs like hull, wba, burn etc may won't give you much but if you have Liv mids, Lukaku, Coleman, Siggy/Llorente mayby some WHU you're fine

Sánchez buy-back money burning a hole in my pocket. Three each of Chelsea and Spurs essential, plus so many decent mid-price options - very tempted to go it without him until his DGW.

Yeah, I'm looking at the amount of times I've fielded the likes of Phillips over the season, players who aren't returning, and wondering why I'm celebrating Sanchez' occasional bursts when I know I know quite fine I'm playing duds beside him.

When planning your GW28 transfers this week, you should be looking at your preferred GW29 transfers as well. I was intending to do Aguero to Llorente for a hit this week, but I want to bring in Kane ideally for GW29 as well for another hit, and the only striker I would be ok in losing from my GW28 front line would be Llorente. So effectively this leaves me with Llorente -8 points for one away game in GW28, or take the zero points........

I was picking Llorente partly because of his GW29 fixture being ok-ish too - but then looking at it, I'd much rather have Kane than him for that GW.

Of course the 8 points saved would mean keeping Aguero - Aguero to Kane for GW29 would still be hit, so my first post was a bit misleading 🙂

      Plan is

Ibra + Kun 》 Lukaku and Llorente

      then in GW29 Barnes 》Kane.

Asses the Ls for a couple of games and move on for Gabbi if needs be.

Sounds like you would be doing Kun to Kane for a hit in GW29 regardless of whether you get Llorente or not. If so it's effective one hit for Llorente who will get 2 points just for playing 60 minutes.

        • 11 Years

Yeah - so effectively for next 2 GWs it is.........

        Blank/Aguero for 0 (with Aguero GW30 onwards)
        Blank/Kane -4 (with Kane GW30 onwards)
        Llorente/Kane -8 (with Kane GW30 onwards)

Kane, Lukaku, Kun. Defoe and Llorente just miss the cut.

Think Sané can provide decent coverage for Kun. If they score big, he's very likely to be involved. Will score goals himself too. Watching Kun last night, he plays so deep, I reckon Alli's average positioning is higher than Kun's. Gabbiadini with 2 doubles is definetly worth a go and saves 6m to invest in midfield and defence. That's a lot of cash.

GW29 / GW30 onwards got to be looking at Swansea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool surely. Fixtures look good and Liverpool love playing better teams. Thinking

Swansea: Siggy / Llorente (also good for GW28)
    Arsenal: Sanchez / DEF
Spurs: Kane / Eriksen or Alli / DEF
Liverpool Mane / Coutinho / Firmino

Everton good fixtures too. The fact he score away against Spurs yesterday is also a good sign. Liverpool and United are far from solid at the back, I wouldn't be worried about Everton and Lukaku scoring against them. Great fixtures other than that

    Already on (-4).

Shall I do Pieters to Fernandez for another hit? I think its only for (-2) in reality but like to know your all opinion.

Also is Fernandez nailed as Mawson/Olsson?
