A single goal from an unlikely source takes Chelsea into the FA Cup semi-finals following a feisty match with Manchester United.

Chelsea 1 Manchester United 0

N’Golo Kante’s fine strike was enough to see off a battling Manchester United who played much of a compelling encounter with ten men.

The Chelsea midfielder, who was set up by Willian, steered home a shot from outside the box after the break.

The goal had an air of inevitability about it – the Blues out-shot their visitors by 20 to four and enjoyed 73% possession – but much of that dominance arose after Ander Herrera was sent off for a second yellow card.

The actual foul that led to the Spaniard’s dismissal was almost nondescript, but he was essentially paying for the sins of a team who had spent the first-half targeting Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard.

Herrera will now miss the next two league matches against Middlesbrough and West Brom – this was his second sending-off of the season – although that will have little Fantasy impact as the midfielder is owned by just 0.7%.

United’s task was always going to be a tough one. Without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jose Mourinho looked like having to cobble together a side shorn of any recognised forward at all until Marcus Rashford, who had been ill, declared himself fit enough to play.

The young England forward acquitted himself well but will rue seeing the one clear chance he had saved by the otherwise under-employed Thibaut Courtois.

Having trialled a back three in the Europa League draw with Rostov, Mourinho was expected to roll out the same formation at Stamford Bridge, only to demonstrate his squad’s flexibility by reverting to a back four.

Phil Jones was again in the starting XI but deployed in a holding midfield role, charged mainly with attempting to diffuse the threat from Hazard. It remains to be seen if Mourinho persists with this ploy: it seems likely that Jones will now revert to a central defensive role.

At 4.7, Jones represents the cheapest of United regular starters in defence, and could capitalise on an immediate schedule that involves Middlesbrough, West Brom, Everton and Sunderland, with the toughest of those matches, Everton, taking place at Old Trafford.

The case for Jones would be strengthened further still if Marcos Rojo is cited for what appeared to be a stamp on Diego Costa, with whom he had a running battle all evening.

Rashford (6.4) also looks good for further starts as Ibrahimovic will miss the next two league matches and Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are struggling to overcome the injuries that forced them out of last night’s clash. Certainly, for the clashes with Boro and West Brom, Rashford could offer a short-term differential.

For Chelsea, Pedro’s position as an unused sub in last night’s match could raise mild concern for his growing band of 9% FPL owners. The Spaniard is the fourth most transferred in midfielder since last weekend, having provided two goals and a pair of assists in his last three, yet he resorted to bench-warming duties as Willian was preferred on the right of the front three instead. Nonetheless, Pedro will be expected to earn a recall at Stoke City in Gameweek 29.

Indeed, with Victor Moses forced off with a reported calf problem in the latter stages, both Pedro and Willian could be unleashed from the start at the bet365 this weekend if the Nigerian fails to make it; Pedro would be the likely deputy at right wing-back.

The all-Premier League semi-finals – Chelsea v Tottenham and Man City v Arsenal – will take place over the weekend of April 22 and 23 during Gameweek 34.

Man City could be in Champions League quarter-final action leading up to that weekend, but there looks to be scope for the Gameweek fixtures involving all four teams to be moved to the midweek after the FA Cup semi-finals.

Chelsea are due to entertain Southampton, Spurs are at Leicester, Arsenal are home to Sunderland and Man City host West Brom.

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill, Moses (Zouma 89), Kante, Matic, Alonso, Willian (Fabregas 81), Costa (Batshuayi 90+4), Hazard.
Subs not used: Begovic, Pedro, Terry, Chalobah.

Man United XI: de Gea, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Valencia, Ander Herrera, Pogba, Darmian, Mkhitaryan (Fellaini 37), Rashford, Young (Lingard 81).
Subs not used: Romero, Bailly, Mata, Carrick, Blind.

Can anyone tell me what's the best way to buy Premier League tickets for a game as a foreigner (online/at the stadium)? Are they really as pricey as £400 + if you want to watch let's say Tot:Man U?

It may sound a silly question but I've never been to any PL game so don't be too harsh. 🙂

    Thanks all. Appreciate any advice.

      Good question imo.

Few years back did a trip to the Emirates to see Ars-Tot. Paid 250€ to a local broker back home and on the ticket the price was 42.50£... Second highest row... 😆

🙂 Yes, that's my fear, would feel silly if I bought a ticket for unreasonable price when I could spend all the spare money for beers in local pub. 😉

Who do you support or would you just like to see any game? As above joining a supporters branch if they have one in your country is best bet.

Many clubs also do hospitality packages which include ticket which is safer then paying a tout.

I'm planning a trip to London in GW37 so would really like to see the one played in London. Tot : Man U and West Ham: Liv are the only ones playing there so it would be one or the other.

        Thanks for the advice, mate.

As said Spurs v United will be very difficult especially as one of last games at White Hart Lane.

Will be tickets galore available for West Ham. I've not been to the Olympic stadium yet but have been told awful for a pre match drinks boozers are miles away. Tho look up football ground guide for where West Ham supporters and away supporters drink.

a Spurs home game against one of the big boys this year will be very expensive due to less seats at the lane and its the final year. supporters club members are not even guaranteed them.

              Chelsea Website:

"The Premier League have announced that a new date for our home match against Watford, postponed due to our progress in the FA Cup, will not be announced until the outcome of the FA Cup sixth round, the subsequent draw for the semi-finals and, if required, progression of Premier League clubs to the Europa League quarter-finals is known. The rescheduled date for Chelsea versus Watford at Stamford Bridge is likely to be confirmed on or around Monday 27 March."

That suggests we may have details of the re-scheduled games and the DGWs that will result somewhere before the GW30 deadline.

that's my thinking as well, but it all depends on the GW34 DGW fixtures and which CL night Arsenal and Southampton play on.

I've seen a lot of people stating during the International Break in GW30, but I've got my fingers crossed for later this GW.

I sat down to do some planning today but it's impossible.

It would be great if Watford had the DGW in 34 but something tells me that won't happen. 🙁

              Considering a WC to this:

              DDG / Pickford
              Azpi / Walker / Valencia / Yoshida / Friend
              Sanchez / Alli / Siggy / Pedro / Capoue
              Costa / Lukaku / Deeney

              0.7 ITB

Costa can be switched to Kane / Ibra if either drops .2 more. Lukaku would be switched to the other for a dgw with Siggy downgraded to accommodate.

Valencia to Jones would allow me to switch Azpi for Alonso, but I'm not sure about Jones' game time.

Pedro is a risk, but not much at his price point that I like the look of. Possible alternatives are Son and Walcott.

Deeney would be a straight swap for Gabbiadinni if he ends up having the first double.

Capoue is a weak choice, but none of the other fillers have appealing doubles. Might be better to switch him for Carroll and use the savings.

Does this look good, or should I wait for the international break?

For this gw only (likely wc in gw30), which do you prefer:

                Foster, Pick
                Alonso, Coleman, Baines, Brunt, 4.0
                Mane, Firmino, Eriksen, Siggy, Carroll
                Lukaku, Kane, Llorente
                £4.5m itb

                A) Tom Carroll and Kane > Sanchez and Defoe (3-5-2, AOA, if Firmino is fit)
                B) Firmino and Kane > Sanchez and Costa

Essentially boils down to (A) Firmino and Defoe or (B) Costa and Llorente. I am leaning towards A. Thanks in advance.

Difficult to do AOA because Llorente is also flagged and will hardly play on next gw.

I did Firmino and Kane to Sanchez and Costa and I am happy about it

I also have Llorente and I wanted to change him for Gabbiadini but I can't affort more hits.

Thanks, Balinese man. Costa and Sanchez is definitely a strong move, and one I am considering. If Llorente is out, I can go 3-5-2 with a strong five-man midfield should I go for Defoe over Costa.
