Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Chelsea vs Southampton

The third day of Gameweek 34 action brings us to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea entertain Southampton at 7.45pm.

Both Eden Hazard and Diego Costa return to the Blues’ first XI after appearing off the bench in the weekend FA Cup win over Spurs.

The Belgian’s goal and assist in last Saturday’s 4-2 triumph continued the form that has produced points in five of his last six league outings.

Costa attempts to address a run of two goals in ten appearances – indeed, he was the second most transferred out player for Gameweek 34, with over 136,000 sending the Spain international packing.

Pedro’s owners are left frustrated as the Spaniard’s run of nine successive Gameweek starts comes to an end this evening. Willian also warms the bench despite his Wembley double, as Cesc Fabregas comes in for the hosts instead.

Southampton, meanwhile, afford us some early scouting ahead of their back-to-back Double Gameweeks 36 and 37.

Up against a defence without a clean sheet in ten Gameweeks, Manolo Gabbiadini has the chance to catch the eye as a third forward option, while attacking midfielders Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse could also play their way into our wildcard plans.

Nathan Redmond’s 6% owners are given cause for concern, however, as the winger drops to the bench for Sofiane Boufal.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Pick 1 to bench for this weekend, no AoA :

    Sanchez Hazard Alli Zaha King
    Lukaku Kane Gabbiadini

Currently thinking of benching Alli for the North London Derby

From 36 onwards, is Kane still the right choice over Costa?

    Kane: whu, MUN/lei, hul
    Costa: MID, WAT/wba, SUN

I think so personally. I'm trying to fit in both, but plan A was always Kane over Costa and despite tonight it hasn't changed.

Chelsea got their attacking groove and confidence back and that fixture list is sublime so doubling up on their attack seems wise. Hazard is a must and Costa will surely score pretty well over those games too.

Think Kane/Costa will score similarly well over last 4 fixtures so both looks like the ideal answer if you can manage it. Otherwise, pick one and choose an Eriksen/Pedro type to try and cover the other

      1. Pierce34

It's an insult to Eriksen to be grouped with Pedro 😉

No offence to Pedro, but as today showed he's a rotation thread, and even when he's not he doesn't get as many points as Eriksen.

I'll phrase my wildcard dilemma another way.

    A) Costa, Foster, Gabriel, Stones, Kone

    B) Costa, Lloris, Gabriel, Stephens, Holgate

    C) Benteke, Cech, Vertonghen, Gabriel, 5.8

Only way to get Spurs defence if I want Costa I'm afraid, unless I sacrifice Alonso.

Without Costa I can have whoever I want on defence on the other hand! Is he worth it?

If Spurs lose at Palace you have to say he probably isn't, surely Batman to take minutes off him if they've all but secured the league in 1-2 games time. TBH I'm thinking the same about Alonso if Tott slip up.

More changes.. Fancied costa to come good before tonight so hes in.

    WC is now.

    Cech, Pickford

    Holgate, Alonso, Clichy, Yoshida, Stephens

    Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, Sane, Albrighton

    Costa, Kane, Gabbiadini

Josh King the only notable absentee, but id only play him in 37 for the BB and hed be benched the others, ill gamble on Albrightons 2 in 37 instead.

Wld Sterling, Mustafi and Valdes be an issue? Sterling seems rotated while Mustafi and Valdes is out with injury. Remembered that you don't have WC left

Valdes I may get rid of before 37.
Mustafi I am probably holding on to, wouldn't play him against spurs anyway, hopefully ready for the double double.
Sterling I don't know yet, he is an excellent points scorer and could still be very valuable. At this point he is a wait and see.

Could do Siggy to Hazard OR Benteke/Rashford to Gabbi. I know on paper Hazard is the better option but they play Everton away and Gabbi has Hull at home.

When Mustafi returns, will Gabriel or Holding be dropped? Fan gossip seems to indicate that Holding has performed better, which doesn't surprise me given how poor Gabriel is imo

    A) [no hits]
    GW35: Bavies & Ibra -> Yoshida & Kane
    GW36: Lukaku -> Costa

    B) [-4]
    GW35: Ibra -> Gabbiadini

    C) [-8]

    Jaku
    Valencia, Brunt, Stones
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Son, King, Zaha

      d) Very much so
      e) Yes 100% with their injuries

TC Sanchez in week 36 or Hazard in week 38?

    1. Pierce34
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

There are so many things that can go wrong with waiting until GW38 to play your TC chip - Chelsea having wrapped up the title being the main one, and Hazard being rested/less motivated.

If there was a guarantee Chelsea are playing for the title I'd consider this, but if you don't play the chip in GW36 you're just gambling that they'd have something to play for.

Looking at the exact same front 7! Though I suspect a lot of us will have that.

Bailly does seem to avoid rotation but i still don't think the utd defence is the best option. What about Vertoghen?

Anyone considering moving on from Kane on their GW36 WC? 3 of his last 4 games are away, and his only home game is to Man Utd who is solid defensively away. His big hauls tend to be at WHL, and I don't think I'll captain him in any rounds. Alli seems like the better option if you aren't going to captain either.

Tomorrow's game will affect my decision heavily.

It feels wrong not to back Kane to score in the final game at White Hart Lane

Drop Alonso for Bailly or some United defender or get DDG for Cech and go Alonso to Arsenal defender. Maybe drop Yoshi or Stephens for someone else too. Otherwise I like it.

For me, until the end of the season Alonso>Bailly, Cech=DDG.
I agree that Yoshi + Stephens might be too much but can't see a better option at that price.

    35 points 111k OR

Henn, Bailly, Gibson, Alli, Eriksen, Zaha, and Kane left

Should I be worried of a big red arrow? Currently up 5k.

New here. Appreciate any advice on my WC team for GW35:

    Cech, Pickford
    Azpilicueta, Walker, Bailly, Yoshida, Holgate
    Sanchez, Hazard, Alli, Sane, Capoue
    Gabbiadini, Defoe, Afobe

Is Defoe dead in the water?

Should I swap Alli, Defoe, Afobe >> King, Kane, Barnes?

    Thanks for the help!

Need two Spurs attackers. Make Afobe Anichebe and find a way to make Defoe become Kane without dropping Alli. Play 3-5-2 and get King for Capoue

Good advice there, also dont like Azpi (no clean sheet in 11). Alonso or Cahill have the attacking potential there.
You need Defoe out for Kane.
Get rid of Capoue for sure. Ideally for King.

I prefer De Gea + Monreal over Cech + Bailly.
Also wouldn't trust Walker to start every game. Maybe Clichy instead or make into a cheaper option to fund the above moves?

Dont really fancy that frontline. yes Sunderland needs to score but that's a real risk. Dont like the Capoue and Walker option where there could be better alternatives like City defenders and King.

Thank you all. Still have bench boost. Need to tweak the front line and make some improvements elsewhere...Seems Walker and azp could be swapped out and need to reeval cech.

    A) De Gea, Monreal, Alonso, Anichebe
    B) Cech, Clichy, Alonso, Anichebe
    C) Cech, Bailly, Cook, Gabbiadini

Very tough. If A or B, are you playing 3-5-2 with Kane and Costa? If so, they're probably better than C.

And between A and B I'd go A on the assumption that Clichy is more of a rotation risk (safe though he may appear for the moment).

You nailed it, this situation is if I go Kane + Costa playing 352.

Hmm, actually have exact cash for that.
        De Gea, Pick
        Holgate Monreal alonso Yoshida Stephens
        King Haz Sanch Alli Sane
        Costa Kane Aniche

Depends on what it affords in your attack... leaning A and then B. Bailly may face rotation as Jones and others heal up. Cook? Not many getting him.

Was just looking for someone in that price range - otherwise its 352 playing King every game in 352

How does this wildcard team look?

    Pickford (Jaku)
    Baily Clichy Alonso (Yoshida Holgate)
    Alli Hazard Alexis King (Davies)
    Lukaku Gabbi Kane

0.5m to transfer Lukaku -> Costa? (Should I hold out till after the Che - Eve game?)
