Diego Costa and Marcos Alonso are among the goals as Chelsea move one step closer to the title with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough to place question marks over their Gameweek 37 and 38 teamsheets.

On the Rise

Diego Costa
The second most-captained player in the Gameweek, Costa struck his 20th league goal of 2016/17 as the Blues soared seven points clear of Spurs with three fixtures remaining.

Backed by over 10% of FPL managers with the Gameweek captaincy, the Spain international is second only to Gabriel Jesus for transfers in up front since Friday’s deadline passed – more than 38,000 have already acquired his services as the league leaders prepare for a Double Gameweek 37 that hands them a trip to West Brom and a home tie with Watford.

The main concern, though, is if Chelsea win at The Hawthorns on Friday night, then the title is already over before Spurs can kick another ball in anger.

Given that they also face Arsenal in the FA Cup final on May 27 – six days after the Gameweek 38 home clash against relegated Sunderland – then a victory against the Baggies means that Conte could opt to rest and rotate his regulars over those final two home matches, potentially scuppering our plans.

However, it’s worth noting that Costa has played 90 minutes in each of Chelsea’s last 13 league matches, and bearing in mind that summer signing Michy Batshuayi has failed to start a single league match thus far, the 33% holding the former Atletico Madrid man will be confident he can retain his starting berth.

Marcos Alonso
Netting Chelsea’s second in the 3-0 stroll, the Spaniard’s stunning end to the season continues to reap reward – he’s racked up two goals, an assist and a pair of clean sheets in his last four outings.

Alonso’s 14-point tally helped him reclaim top spot in the FPL defender standings ahead of team-mate Gary Cahill, with Cesar Azpilicueta sitting in third spot after providing an assist for the wing-back’s strike.

Yet there’s no doubt that the summer signing has been the main man for FPL managers in defence – an average of 5.8 points per match is identical to team-mate Costa and bettered by just six regular players over the current campaign.

Having played 90 minutes in 13 of his last 14 league appearances, Alonso has also been immune to rotation, though the likes of Nathan Ake could offer an option to Conte if he opts to rest any regulars if/when the league is won.

Cesc Fabregas
One of our three “Differentials” for Gameweek 36, the playmaker proved a timely differential ahead of Double Gameweek 37 by serving up a 12-point tally against ‘Boro.

Owned by 2% of FPL managers, Fabregas has started five successive home matches, producing double-figures on three of those occasions.

Impressively, he’s now served up attacking returns in nine of his side’s last 10 at Stamford Bridge.

With Conte perhaps keen to protect N’Golo Kante’s thigh injury with one eye on the Wembley showpiece, the 6.9-priced Fabregas could be worthy of a flutter for those remaining three league fixtures.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Hauled off just after 70 minutes with the hosts 3-0 ahead, the Belgian failed to extend a recent run that had delivered returns in seven of eight appearances prior to last night’s victory.

While there seems little doubt that he’ll start against West Brom as Conte looks to get the title in the bag, Hazard’s pitch time continues to be managed by the Italian – he has now been subbed off in 23 of his 33 starts, more than any player in the Premier League this season.

With Pedro and Willian more than capable of delivering from the wide roles, the 34%-owned Hazard is arguably most at risk of being handed a day off than other Chelsea regulars, as Conte plots to clinch the double in his first season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The two transfers im making mean that the decision im making means ending up with one of these two options, which one do you prefer?

    A) Kane, Holgate, Sane
    B) Gabb, Kompany, Hazard

Much prefer B. I'm trying to downsize my Spurs contingent (see above) and I think the variety there is better. I'd prefer Kompany over Holgate, Haz over Sane, and Kane over Gabb, so 2/3 gives it to B I think

Hey guys! going to play BB in 37 but looks l need to do some hits to maximise its potential. To be honest I am struggling to get ideas on how to do it. Would really appreciate some help. I have 1FT and 0.0 ITB. Could take up to a -12 hit I guess ?. Players with ** is players I really want to get rid, and players with * are players I can get rid of if its to fund another move or something like that.

    Pickford/Jakupovic**

    Azpilicueta / Alonso / Monreal / Stones** / Stephens

    Sanchez / Hazard * / Coutinho ** / King / Zaha

    Kane / Jesus / gabbiadini *

    Keep winding up bottom 🙁

2 spots up for grabs in my BB XV, think I've narrowed it down to the following combo, who will go for Alli (want to de-spur, ML rivals own him and not Eriksen, process of elimination call) and Bailly (probably not going to play in both or maybe either):

    A) Luiz* + Silva*
    or
    B) Kone*(Sun) + KdB*

    Team is:
    Pick Henn
    Yoshi Kompany Holgate Monreal Bailly*
    Eriksen Sanchez Hazard King Alli*
    Jesus Kane Anichebe

Luiz I like at 6.2 to give me another Chelsea body, but surely will be taken out for Ake/Terry after Friday, so I'd only be buying for one game. Huth has been suggested - have had a look but don't get a good gut feel about Leicester in those matches.

Silva an under-the-radar target given how well KdB did last weekend... but with Silva in the team, KdB looks like he's pushed forward a lot more, and is the least rotation threatened out of all of them. And Kone is in the shop window for Sunderland, and a good enabler for KdB at 4.2, so I'm sure he'll be imperious!

Which is the best option, guys? I'm thinking B atm.

    Thanks

Not sure about A for playing time on either count. B is safer and KdB is a nice differential for those who dare.

        Haha 🙂

Oh man, I'm daring AGAIN. I had KdB over xmas and into new year and he was so frustrating to own. But I can't shake the feeling he's first on the team sheet for Pep. Plus with Silva back in the team he seems to be pushed forward a lot more. Do I go back, is the question? If I get him in, he probably gets the armband too...

I'd be more keen on A. Don't like your enabler at all.
Also think Silva can get as good a haul on any given week as KDB.

Hey thanks man. Not got much scope for the enabler (max is 4.4). I'd practically be bringing Luiz in for just 1 match if I did do it, and Silva could be rested, who knows with Pep, v. KdB being the Man there I think. The alternative to Luiz is Kosc, but he's apparently got a knock according to AW this morning.

I know what you mean about Silva. I did think this weekend he looked great - problem is he's the king of assisting the assister and will take de Bruyne's more withdrawn creator role, allowing Kev forward.

I think at this stage I might as well roll the dice on a cheapo with 2 game as I'm taking a hit here - I did look at Fernandez, but I'd prefer 2 games rather than 1 here.

              Cut out for some reason!
              Bargain bucket:

Kone (SWA, ars) (in shop window)
              Nyom (CHE, mci) (not nailed)
Prodl (eve, che) (on holiday, will get beaten soundly both games)
              Stephens (mid, MNU) (have Yoshi)
Holding (stk SUN) (Nowhere near nailed)
              Tarkowski (bou)
              Fernandez (sun)

I think Kone is marginally the best call.. but it's truly disgusting down there...

Not selling Haz, but am no longer as keen as I was on bringing in Luiz too.

Can imagine that one being a 1-0, Diego Costa in 88th minute with a shank that nestles in the top corner via the outstretched leg of McAuley (so he at least gets his assist :D)

          A mild case of kneejerk.

How much he'd cost in the game is another matter 12.0/5 a possibility yeah?.. I'm betting though he'd have over 50% ownership from the get go

That would be foolish, man is straight out of form and made of glass. Cant finish two games in a row for some time now.

I think his game was always more suited to the Prem mind. But yeah he's brittle like Kun, is he worth the risk still?

As someone who watched the last few years with him in our squad Id rate him below Vazquez, not to even mention Isco or Asensio. Im deffo staying clear till he shows some form or a capability to play more than 60 minutes a month. Would agree that Prem probably suits him better though.

Why is nobody considering Vardy?? It's true he has tough fixtures but his form is currently one of the best. Ppl seem to get fooled with DGW and most of the time a player in form with a SGW outscores a player with easy fixtures on a DGW.

I had Vardy captain this GW and he did better than all the most popular strikers till now (as I can't see Gabbi or Welbeck/Giroud doing any better), with two assists...was unlucky not to get bonus points too.
        Any thoughts?

          Him for costa.

I was tempted to swap him for Costa too but Costa has a lot of competition within his own team to score goals, hence it is why he basically only scores one goal or an assist max in nearly every game he plays, except for the exceptions like two weeks ago !!

Definitely worthy of a spot. Just lots of competition for that striker spot.

Vardy was a huge consideration for me. But in the end i decided to bring in KDB over Sane and that didnt leave me with the funds to get Vardy back. But i agree, his fixtures look tough on paper but he could easily score a goal in each of his last 3 games.

Swapping Hazard to KDB is looking more obvious by the day.

Hazard isn't great on the road, and I don't think think he'll play much if at all vs Watford.

De bruyne should play both and city have the motivation of top 4 to drag them along.

I also have costa, and no Jesus.

Just when he started two up front vs middlesbrough. Sane dropped out. So it suggets that the 2 up front. One of sterling/Sane/KDB/silva isnt going to play.

Sané had played around 10 games in a row before that so he was merely rested. He wouldn't be dropped again if he plays 2 up froot, Sterling would likely make way.

After winning 5 nil though, it's possible he keeps the formation and Aguerro is used as a sub like earlier when Jesus 1st came. Pep will see this as a perfect excuse to bench Kun

so by the end of today i should be 20-30 points clear in my ML.

Should i take a -12 points hit for GW37 to have 15 players playing DGW and i will be using my bench boost!?!?

Can I close the 15pts gap with my rival ?

          Me vs Him :

          Alonso vs Yoshida
          Eriksen vs Redmond
          Alexis vs Sane
          Hazard vs Capoue
          Anichebe vs Costa
          Pickford vs Cech

Is it worth doing Eriksen to Sane to block him ? This is the only player I am afraid from his lot. And then I rely on Alexis / Hazard / Alonso to basically outscore Costa by 15 pts.

1,000 times yes. No concerns there. He may get lucky though, especially with a captain pick. Go as safe as you can with the (C) and you should be golden.
