Manchester City’s De Bruyne has timed his ascent to perfection as Sanchez continues to toil in Arsenal’s new set-up. We’re relying on a Baggies air raid to spoil Conte’s party, Mourinho’s rotation has us in a spin, while keepers have forever booked their place in our double Gameweek plans. Here are the learnings from Gameweek 36 so far…

We can only hope that West Brom have some fancy set-pieces left…
Events in Gameweek 36 have conspired somewhat against those who loaded up on Spurs assets for the run-in.

Friday’s shock reverse at the London Stadium, coupled with Chelsea’s stroll past Middlesbrough last night, means Mauricio Pochettino’s men could take to the pitch against Manchester United on Sunday with their title aspirations in tatters – should the Blues get the better of West Brom on Friday, that is.

It’s all far from ideal from an FPL perspective, given that a run of nine successive victories prior to that Hammers defeat persuaded many of us to go big on Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli for the run-in.

As we witnessed last season, Spurs fell apart after their bid to clinch the crown finished prematurely, crumbling to defeats against Southampton and Newcastle United in their final pair of fixtures.

We now need Tony Pulis’ set-piece specialists to hand Spurs a brief glimmer of hope or, if Chelsea prevail, see a big response from Mauricio Pochettino’s men to prevent our Double Gameweek 37s falling flat.

We’re looking to you, McAuley and Dawson.

…or Conte’s rotation could leave us disappointed…
The prospect of claiming a double in his first season in charge of Chelsea will surely dominate Antonio Conte’s thinking now.

A win over West Brom would not only seal the title, it would also give the Blues boss the luxury of being able to rest his regulars for the final two matches of the season – home fixtures against Watford and Sunderland that otherwise look highly conducive to Fantasy returns.

Such a scenario is far from ideal for the 34% and 33% holding big hitters Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, with the champions-elect set to face Arsenal in the FA Cup final six days after their Gameweek 38 clash against the Black Cats.

As witnessed last night, though, the absence of N’Golo Kante could strengthen Cesc Fabregas’ appeal for the final trio of fixtures, with Conte perhaps now looking to wrap the PFA Player of the Year in cotton wool to ensure he’s fully fit for the Wembley showpiece.

The three-man defence has strangled Sanchez…
Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Man United delivered a fourth clean sheet in five home matches and also highlighted Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s improved displays as a wing-back differential.

What it failed to do, however, was arrest Alexis Sanchez’s recent continued decline as a Fantasy asset.

The most-captained player for Double Gameweek 36, the Chilean fired two off-target attempts on goal and returned just three points in yet another frustrating display.

Arsene Wenger’s switch to 3-4-2-1 may have afforded his side hope of a fourth place finish, but while the team have benefitted, Sanchez has chalked up just a single goal in seven appearances.

While Double Gameweek 37 clashes with Stoke City and Sunderland will keep him in most managers’ plans, we simply cannot trust Sanchez as a captaincy contender right now – he’s managed just one set of double-digits from Gameweek 22 onwards.

De Bruyne has left it late…
Soaring into fifth place in the midfield standings on the back of a 17-point haul at home to Palace, the Belgian has earned more transfers-in than any FPL midfielder for Double Gameweek 37.

With two double-digit returns in four, De Bruyne has been key in guiding Man City into pole position in the race for a third-place finish, with Liverpool’s goalless draw against Southampton placing the Etihad outfit one point behind with a match in hand.

Back-to-back home encounters against Leicester City and West Brom afford Pep Guardiola’s side the chance to maintain that momentum in their search for a spot in next year’s Champions League.

While a price of 10.4 is far from budget-friendly at a time when the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and even David Silva offer cheaper alternatives, De Bruyne has plenty still to play for at a time when other premium-priced midfielders look to be lacking motivation and, in Sanchez’s case, form.

Pride is keeping the Foxes in contention…
At this time of year, those safely ensconced in the security of mid-table are typically accused of already being on the beach.

But the same cannot be said for defending champions Leicester. Now up to ninth on the back of a 3-0 home battering of Watford, the Foxes seem to be making up for lost time after a disastrous title defence had many predicting a drop into the Championship.

Chalking up seven wins and a draw in 10 league outings since Craig Shakespeare was appointed, Leicester have one of the toughest Double Gameweek 37s on offer – away to Man City and at home to Spurs.

Yet with a Gameweek 38 visit from Bournemouth seeing out their season, that pair of King Power clashes could turn a few heads to consider the likes of Jamie Vardy, or weekend scorers Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton, particularly if Spurs have already lost the title by the time next Thursday’s encounter comes around.

Vardy is the obvious choice, but Mahrez’s display against Watford piqued some interest. Like De Bruyne, he may just have timed his late ascent to coincide with Fantasy managers’ hankering for an explosive differential.

Liverpool are limping over the line…
Despite requiring a win at home to Southampton in their quest for Champions League qualification, Jurgen Klopp’s side looked laboured at best in Sunday’s goalless draw.

Without the injured Sadio Mane and with Adam Lallana eased back into action with another outing off the bench, the Reds welcomed back Philippe Coutinho from the dead leg that forced him off against Watford last Monday.

Yet the Brazilian, and compatriot Robert Firmino, huffed and puffed without success against a Saints side that were happy to sit back and failed to register a single effort on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

Devoid of a Double Gameweek 37 and up against a West Ham side with four clean sheets in five, the Liverpool pair rank among the top three midfielders for transfers-out this week as many cut and run. It’s difficult to argue against such a decision.

Mourinho is true to his word…this time…
The Manchester United manager had hinted at making plenty of changes for Sunday’s trip to the Emirates, yet Liverpool’s stalemate against the Saints earlier in the day had left the door open for a top-four finish.

But with at least one eye on this week’s Europa League clash with Celta Vigo, Jose Mourinho stuck to his guns and omitted the likes of Paul Pogba, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Marcus Rashford from his first XI.

Progress past their La Liga opponents on Thursday and the Old Trafford side will clinch a place in the final, which takes place on Wednesday, May 24 – just three days after the end of the season.

Considering that United have still to play three times in the league prior to that, their remaining teamsheets may be no more than a lottery, if Sunday’s is anything to go by.

We will always have a soft spot for a double Gameweek keeper…
Stoke’s Lee Grant set the tone in Double Gameweek 27, racking up 13 points for a pair of clashes against Middlesbrough and Man City.

Then Man United’s David De Gea followed suit, delivering 17 points against Burnley and Man City to emerge as joint-top scorer in Double Gameweek 34.

This time around, Southampton’s Fraser Forster looks set to surpass both after delivering 16 points alone in the first match of Double Gameweek 36, courtesy of his spot-kick save at Anfield.

Although the allure of a pair of fixtures has a tendency to draw us to attackers, the men between the posts have served a very timely reminder that going against the common consensus can sometimes prove a hugely profitable tactic in our quest for mini-league success.

Which will open up space for CR7. Also, should Athletico concede one more they will go into damage (and embarrassment) limitation mode and Real will dictate the game. CR7 would be my bet.

Of course that will expose Atletico's defence but doesn't necessarily mean that Cristiano will be the one scoring cause there are other options in Real, but for Atletico it is 99% Griezmann

    Hi guys

Best choice between these two? Looking to ship Alli (punt - on triple Spurs with Eriksen and Kane) and Bailly (deffo):

    A) KdB and 4.3 defender
    B) Sane and Azpi / Alonso / Cahill (probably Azpi as most immune to rotation)

    Thanks guys

No idea MTP, it's pretty grim reading. Was looking at Sunderland's Kone, Prodl, Holding, Tuanzebe...

Pushing me toward the Chelsea boys... just want the one that is most likely to play all games, who is probably Azpi

Yeah exc Stephens I can't find a nailed dgw cheapo replacement for Holgate. Benalouane perhaps if Morgan stays injured, but dgw fixtures not good. Sane's probably better value for money than kdb anyway.

Hope so. Armband going on a City player, which is obviously why I'm considering KdB as I'd have no worries about him starting both matches. Sane less so, not sure I'd armband him. Would probably be Jesus if I got Leroy.

Not worth it imo. I have owned KdB this season already and he's SO hit and miss. I do think with Silva in the team he will play up more, but idk if it's worth "sacrificing" a defensive spot - and 4 points - to accommodate him for Alli, who will probably do OK anyway..

I'm just judging it on minutes played in the absence of any other yardstick. Looks like him or Cahill are the two who might not come out of the team ahead of the FA Cup final as they have played every minute so far. But who knows!

I'm not considering Alonso as much due to high ownership in my ML. You do make a fair point though mate, didn't mean to suggest he's susceptible 😀

Hey cheers Lego 🙂 I own Kompany already. Alonso I am not as interested in as my high ownership in my ML, so it's between Dave and Cahill. Probably Dave due to versatility I suppose. Kone was just for lols in case I did go KdB.

              Alonso Kosc Yosh Stephens Holg

              Kane Jesus Anich

              If Kosc out thinking

              K > Kompany
              Or
              K + Alli/Erik > Cahill / Sané

Kosc was the man I was looking at bringing in actually before the injury doubts, and also the fact I lost 20 points on my rivals and the guy chasing me caught up an equal amount through owning Alonso + Luiz. I think I need to get a Chelsea def in... but not Alonso as everyone owns haha

Erm, so you're looking at the exact same move as me 😀 just Cahill over Azpi? Am tempted by Cahill due to goalscoring threat, but I fear he might drop out for JT post inevitable victory at WBA, whereas Azpi is so versatile and such a machine he can fit in anywhere if someone like Moses is rested.

Ah OK. My big worry is that my ML rival will captain Jesus, who to me is the standout, and I won't really have a differential captain option available I like (Kane, Sanchez both meh as far as I'm concerned), so I'm very tempted to get KdB in and captain, and write off the defender spot. Ugh.

Wish I was in your position - I'm behind and continually plagued by inconsistency.. been unable to get a run going this year 🙁

Nice one. I need that kind of swing! I wish my rivals hadn't have brought in Jesus, but after Kun was injured (who they both owned) it was a logical swap. Puts me in a bad position now as I'm forced into the differential cap.. and I think KdB might just be the best pick. No Chelsea def leaves me horrendously exposed but I think it's a risk I'll have to take.

Chelsea fan and Azpi popped into my head last night, reckon he has the best chance of playing all 3 games, can also play Moses role, right back etc plus he's a machine and with a little attacking potential too 😉

That's pretty much decided it for me, not sold on KDB. Also carrying a theory that Eriksen/Kane will be more likely to prosper v Man U (than Alli anyway).

Captaincy is another matter, Jesus seems a bit of a meh captain. Kane could explode, Sanchez same, I'd prefer the armband on one of those two if I can persuade myself they will be up for it.

Ah cool. Yeah I think that's probably it. Versatility means he's likely to be plugging all sorts of gaps - don't think you have quite that many kids/reserves to cover the entire backline 🙂

I'm not too sure about either of those - it's definitely a Spurs, Arsenal or City player for me, they have the best "spaced out" scheduling meaning that there's less risk of rotation. Jesus also widely owned in my ML and likely captained by my direct rival which is making me think again. Looking at perhaps even putting it on Kompany. Sanchez the other, but we're off the boil atm and also Kane is hmm, big unknown about their motivation now! Ugh. That's the only reason I was considering KdB - can def pop him in and captain him, but it means I write off a defensive spot.

                Quandary!

Yeah can see 4 or 5 changes for the Watford match but not wholesale, the backbone will be there. Conte won't want to risk losing will he.

I think that's the way to go, Jesus will be the safe choice come Friday, KDB may or may not score well, but so may Sane etc. Sanchez would be an easy choice if he was in form, and everyone else is a bit punty.

Still, it can all change by Friday!

Yeah I hope not. Azpi and Cahill the two most likely to still be involved I'd reckon.

I just don't know mate. Got 50pts from Sanchez in last years' DGW so the bar is fairly high. Suspect I'll be looking at Kompany and Jesus, but I really can't captain Jesus if my ML rivals are.

Have to see on Fri I know... probably going to gamble.

Hey mate. I own Yoshi and I'm not too interested in the double up - would be looking at a gratuitous punt on Holding, Prodl, Kone etc 🙂

I think B is looking the most sensible isn't it? Which Chelsea out of Azpi and Cahill? Assuming maybe Dave is the man here due to versatility - both played every minute so far (just about). Alonso I'm less interested in as my ML rivals own.

Thanks for your reply, too, Jossy 🙂

Pleasure mate! Do you also have Holgate too, as he's not a bad option for GW37 (unless you prefer a DGWer... which I do).

I'd say probably Dave yes, as he's maybe less likely to make way for JT. The second game of 37 is a potential minefield for Chelsea though.

Yeah, I do have him. Basically, due to injuries I've had to compromise and have 3 SGWers - Holgate, King and Hennessey. Was initially getting rid of Hennessey for Cabellero this week but Stones' continued injury woes plus Spurs losing to WHU and killing their title defence meaning my triple Spurs now looks like overload. So I've done Stones to Kompany already, and will be getting Alli and Bailly out... just trying to figure out who basically, but I definitely want triple City, it's who I will get in alongside that midfielder.

Agreed, absolute minefield. I just lost so much pace on both my chasers and who I am chasing because they all own Alonso, plus my main chaser has Luiz too. So I need to cover that and also differentiate from those I'm trying to catch up... guess it's all about Dave.

Cheers mate - hows your side shaping up? Anything I can help with?

Thanks for the offer mate! My team is pretty well set up at the moment. I'm fortunate that I don't have your TV worries:

                  Cech - Caballero
                  Alonso - Koscielny - Vertonghen - Yoshida - Stephens
                  Sanchez - Hazard - Eriksen - Sane - King
                  Kane - Jesus - Gabbiadini

I would have been tempted by KDB if Sanchez lets me down again, but I already have a City triple.

I may wwant to use my FT on Koscielny if he becomes a non-starter for the DGW (I paid extra for nailedness!!)

What do you think? Only 0.1 ITB

Ah I see. I would be tempted yeah to ship Kosc if it's looking sketchy - no idea who for though at this rate. Maybe Monreal/Stafi as a sideways move - advocate sticking with teams to play for. Where's your armband going?

Great team - I think I'll take more hits next year, I see you've taken one basically every week and it's really helped you with building TV. I was OK with mine - 106.5 or something when I wildcarded - but that extra 3m really helps.

                    Here's my lot!

                    Pick Henn
                    Yoshi Monreal Kompany Holgate Bailly*
                    Eriksen Sanchez King Haz Alli*
                    Kane Jesus Anichebe

I really think I need to go KdB the more I think about it. ML rival is going to captain Jesus, who is the standout, I don't like the idea of captaining Sane nor Kompany really, so I might well just write off the defensive spot (Prodl at Watford in maybe) and hope to go big on differential (c). Seems to be the only way I'll get on the podium in my ML! Will be destroyed by no Chelsea def though. Such a mindf**** 😀

Thanks mate! There were times when I thought that I'd taken too many hits, but at least the WC DGW is requiring lots of premium options, as opposed to the likes of Vardy, Mahrez and Alli last year.

I'm really hoping that strong WC team is going to really propel me up from 23k in the next couple of weeks.

I was debating Jesus and Hazard for the captaincy, but them probably tying up the league is putting me off the latter.

You've a good team with the budget you have. You're kind of forced into the couple of template enablers, like Holgate and Anichebe.

I'd agree with you actually... go big on KDB. I don't think it's worth me rejigging my team just to get him, because Sane could easily hold his own. If Koscielny looks iffy, it's almost certainly Monreal I'll go for.

Yeah true - we both had the same idea, you just executed it better. I made a lot of mistakes this year through overthinking which forced me into bad calls - was trying to retain my ML title (I've come 1st, 2nd and 1st in recent years) and done a proper Leicester with it lol.

For sure. Holgate and Anichebe I just thought meh, does the job - don't think King is a compromise ofc, but again he's another one I jumped on too late I think.

I think I'm kind of convinced. No idea who my 4.4 or below defender will be though. It's a rogue's gallery:
Holding, Stephens, Kone(SUN), Prodl, Fernandez, Tarkowski, Ake maybe. Of those, probably Kone is the man as he'll be playing to get himself a move... maybe Ake could come into consideration too as he must be on paper likely to start v. Watford. Who'd you pick out of that sorry lot? Haha.

Welll as you can see fro my team, I'm quite comfortable with the Saints double-up. Their double is not bad, and Stephens is tending to smash Yoshida in the BPS. There is the risk that the new guyCaceras gets a game, but I think Stephens has been really solid.

If not him... maybe Kone based on fixtures. Can't have any confidence in Ake's starts (although he'll probably get one).

Yeah true. I just fancy getting points from anywhere I can, but I think you might be right in that Saints have the least worst dgw fixture with MID (relegated, can't score) and then the United kids.

Kone I think at least might get something v. Swansea, but it's really such a cr*pshoot. This is why I was considering just getting a Chelsea def in in the first place - have been horribly exposed by removing back in my WC in 32 when they couldn't keep a cleanie for love nor money so I removed Alonso to finance my midfield 5. Now looking poor, but at the time was OK 🙁

                            Bahhhhh

Thanks for the help mate. Sure you'll smash it. Looks like KdB (c) for me at this stage. 4pt DGW captain return to come I'm sure 🙂

As much as I love KDB and I think Pep is not using him as he actually should, I'd wait a bit to jump into the KDB Bandwagon.
If Aguero is fit, Pep will propably experiment again an Aguero / Jesus front line and the last time he did this, it was not that succesfull for KDB.
Also Silva's positionning is a factor

          1. MTPockets
              8 years, 7 months ago

Agree. Kdb's better returns have often correlated with Aguero being out. May just be coincidental (Aguero was out near season start when Kdb was playing further forward), but it's bigger risk if plays Jesus + Aguero.

I think that if you want to surprise him in GW37, you have to keep in mind that you need to have starting players on a potential rotation-prone GW38.
SO I'd surprise him but but picking players you know will have somthing to play for in GW38. And Basically, it comes down to City and Liverpool probably. Maybe Arsenal too.

I'm a Liverpool fan, but for FPL they have become too inconsistent. Where have Coutinho and Firmino been when you need them to score or assist? Defence is too unreliable. Mane would have been the only player worth having but we won't be seeing him till next season.
I would go for either City, Arsenal or Man Utd if not for the rotation risks. Leceister is a good alternative for a SGW.

I like your lineup, especially having Vardy as I think he is the most in form attacker at the moment. You might have the edge there. Pedro is the one I trust less in your team though and get easily rotated or play a few mins.
Once again, people are not looking at Vardy because of the tough fixtures but we all know what in-form Vardy and Leicester can do against any opposition. Pity Mahrez's price tag is too high or I would have considered him too.
Don't forget, they are still current champions and still want to prove to all that they are and that under new coach things are back as they used to be !

              Hennessey to Pickford?
Also, Rashford not likely to play all games.

I don't know whether to sell Hazard or captain him.

Exactly. Just hoping Conte could say something like "FFS relax, the little wizard is locked in for 37 AND rested on 38" lol
Seriously IMO Pulis will make him play both games. No party at the Hawthorns

No way I'm captaining him now.
If they beat wba, he could be rested for WAT.
If he plays against WAT, most likely because wba was a fail.

Are lots of people taking hits to get the DGWers in?

I have all DGW apart from - Heaton/Robertson/Zaha with 0.3m ITB

Going to do Robertson > Stephens for free but besides that dont really see the point in swapping the other 2 out for a hit.

              Team will stand as

              Heaton/Cech

              Alonso/Yoshi/Stephens/Vert/Kos

              Alli/Haz/Sterling/Sane/Zaha

              Kane/Jesus/Gabbi

              Any thoughts?

Personally i think G2G, rivals got TC whereas i am BB we will be fielding near identical starting lineups as he only has 9 DGW and has only used 1FT this week.

Worth downgrading Alli/Kane to turn Davies into Kompany? The other move would be one of the below...

              Alli-> Sané?
Kane-> Costa (or huge punt Giroud/Welbeck)

Going to play BB but have a Man Utd/Walcott headache. Going to wait after arsenal and man utd play before doing anything but was thinking

              BAILLY to Vertonghen
              BLIND to Aderweireld
              WALCOTT to Ox
              Just go with Rashford

Have 0.6m itb and 2 fts.

              Rest of team is

              Courtois Caballero
              Alonso Yoshida Stephens BAILLY BLIND
Hazard De Bruyne Sanchez Ozil WALCOTT
              Jesus RASHFORD Gabbiadini

GTG with proposed changes or any other suggestions welcome.

yet another season comes and goes with Walcott initially promising so much but fizzling out like a cheap halloween sparkler.

He is the very embodiment of that club, selling him would be a great sign that they actually want to change things

              Morning all!

              How's it going?

Think I'm most likely to not bring in KDB this week and hope Hazard does something.

I don't particularly want Tadic in my team next week and if I get rid of Hazard for KDB I'd probably get Fabregas in for Tadic which seems sideways (hazard out, Fab in).

              Hoping Sane does the business.

All good here. Sitting in the sun feet up fishing!

I'm unsure on Hazard and or a potential KdB replacement too. When unsure I usually find it's best to sit tight. Two FTs next week could be gold.

I'm tempted to do Alli>Sane though and have money ITB next week!

Morning mate - think keep Haz, too. I am!

Am struggling between going KdB+Kone/Prodl/Holding/other less than 4.4 def or Sane+Azpi for the Alli+Bailly. Thinking the latter option is more balanced than basically writing off a defender slot, and hoping Sane keeps pace with KdB...

Will watch the SC shortly, but who is your pick for the armband? Thinking Jesus or Kompany here... if I did bring in KdB it'd be him, but surely Sane is a no go for the captaincy?

                🙂

Not thinking too much about 38 as of now, will wait for all pressers to be sure.
What are your thoughts on Holding though? Will Mustafi threaten his place? Can't see Gabriel getting another start, he was really bad.
