Back in the Gameweek routine after last weekend’s round of FA Cup fixtures, itโ€™s time to pay a visit to our favourite bookmaker to scan their odds on the weekend fixtures, assessing their current thinking on the defensive and attacking potential on offer.

Clean Sheets

Man United 1.83
Tottenham 1.90
Liverpool 1.90
Man City 2.00
Chelsea 2.10
Newcastle 2.40
Arsenal 2.40
Aston Villa 2.70
West Brom 2.87

Paddy have United out in front when it comes to shut-outs, edging both Spurs and Liverpool by a fraction. Alex Fergusonโ€™s rearguard face Bolton, fresh from the Newcastle spanking, and there will perhaps be real reservations on the potential offered by their shell-shocked defence. Ferguson does at least have options this weekend, with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Rafael possible starters. That could see Phil Jones back in midfield, although rumours of Rio Ferdinandโ€™s tummy grumbles are perhaps a cause for concern. Owen Coyle will fancy nicking a goal.

Spurs and Liverpool look stronger options for our money. Harry Redknappโ€™s side have come a cropper against Wolves at the Lane before but come into the weekend on the back of two consecutive cleanies and having conceded just two goals in their last six. Liverpool, meanwhile, demonstrated their resilience at the Etihad in midweek and will surely be backed against a Stoke side that can struggle to penetrate on the road.

Cityโ€™s odds at lowly Wigan look generous given the absence of Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure, with Newcastle perhaps a stronger option, even with the Mark Hughes effect a likely factor when QPR pay visit to the Sports Direct this weekend.

Further down Paddyโ€™s list, Villa and West Brom are seen as the long-shots โ€“ Alex McLeishโ€™s unit look the better option for us. Everton are at Villa Park this weekend and seem be scratching around for goals, having drawn another blank at the Lane on Wednesday. Itโ€™s five goals in the last eight matches for Moyesโ€™ men.

Anytime Scorer โ€“ Forwards

Rooney 1.44
Hernandez 1.50
Welbeck 1.61
Adebayor 1.61
Berbatov 1.61
Aguero 1.66
Van Persie 1.72
Balotelli 1.82
Dzeko 2.0
Sturridge 2.0
Torres 2.0
Bellamy 2.29
Carroll 2.29
Henry 2.29
Bent 2.40
Odemwingie 2.40
Best 2.50
Yakubu 2.70
Zamora 2.87

Paddyโ€™s faith in Wayne Rooney is unshakable. He is, once again, their favourite to find the net and, despite an ineffectual display at Newcastle, the United man does indeed look well-placed to punish Bolton at Old Trafford. United are clearly backed to hand out a spanking, with Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck also fancied ahead of Tottenhamโ€™s Emmanuel Adebayor, who, despite mustering just two shots over the double Gameweek fixtures, has Paddyโ€™s backing to inflict the damage on Wolves at the Lane.

Robin Van Perise faces up to the Liberty Stadium resistance, although it remains to be seen if Swanseaโ€™s possession game can cut it against the visiting Gunners. Nonetheless, the Swanโ€™s home record has an impact on Van Persieโ€™s odds โ€“ he trails the United strikers, Adebayor and Sergio Aguero right now. Itโ€™s doubtful whether many Fantasy managers will be losing faith so quickly.

Darren Bent and Peter Odemwingie are perhaps the most interesting mid-price punts available โ€“ Paddy have them favoured above the much-fancied Yakubu, who faces up to a Fulham back-four well capable of frustrating struggling Blackburn. Villa and West Brom have home encounters with Everton and Norwich and, for us, Odemwingie looks a decent option given that he could find himself on spot-kicks with Chris Brunt sidelined. Weโ€™ve a Watchlist primed and on the way on the Nigerian later today.

Anytime Scorer – Midfield

Van der Vaart 2.0
Nani 2.20
Lampard 2.29
Mata 2.50
Gerrard 2.50
Bale 2.60
Kuyt 2.70
Dempsey 2.87
Silva 2.87
Ben Arfa 3.10
Arshavin 3.10
Walcott 3.10
Tchoyi 3.40

Tottenhamโ€™s master Dutchman tops Paddyโ€™s list of midfield anytime scorers once again, despite notching just a single goal in his last ten league showings. Like Adebayor, Rafael Van der Vaart failed to cover himself in glory in the double Gameweek gone by but, with the Wolves at the door, heโ€™s likely to get a decent opportunity to make up for that midweek disappointment.

Nani and Frank Lampard rank next, the latterโ€™s place in the Chelsea lineup far from assured, making Juan Mata perhaps the better proposition in Fantasy terms. The Liverpool pair of Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt then follow, with Clint Dempseyโ€™s odds remaining short as he attempts to build on his FA Cup hat-trick with goals at Ewood Park. Ben Arfaโ€™s potential has been recognised by Paddy โ€“ interestingly they have him well above the coveted Stephane Sessegnon โ€“ his odds of 5.0 are perhaps surprising given his resurgence under Martin Oโ€™Neill and the gaps on show in the Chelsea back-four. Seb Larssonโ€™s odds are even longer โ€“ 8.0 โ€“ looks generous given his accuracy at set-pieces.

Anytime Scorers โ€“ Defenders

Jones 6.0
Kolarov 6.50
Terry 7.50
Luiz 7.50
Vermaelen 7.50
Smalling 8.0
Baines 8.0
Kaboul 8.0
Samba 8.50
Riise 8.50
Huth 9.0
Shotton 9.0
Richards 10.0
M Dawson 10.0

Paddy clearly have Phil Jones earmarked for a role in the United midfield, ranking him the most likely Fantasy defender to find the net this weekend. Cityโ€™s Aleksandar Kolarov and the Chelsea centre-backs then follow. Cityโ€™s Micah Richards and Tottenhamโ€™s Michael Dawson appear to offer the most generous odds โ€“ 10.0. You can get 11.0 on Assou-Ekotto repeating his 30-yard effort from midweek, while Martin Skrtel at 11.0 to net anytime against Stoke looks decent given his goalscoring form this term and with Steven Gerrardโ€™s delivery on the pitch.

Scout Specials

As usual, Paddy has created a string of markets linked in with our current Scout Pick thinking, including bets on Clint Dempsey, Peter Odemwingie and Hatem Ben Arfa. Take a gander at the odds now and look out for Money Mike’s Flutter before tomorrow’s deadline to find out where our money goes.

Money Back Special

Paddy’s refund special backs this season’s Fantasy darling. If Robin van Persie scores the last goal at the Liberty when Arsenal take on Swansea, Paddy will refund all losing first and last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match.

Nani's been pretty poor recently - he was hooked for a pensioner last weekend don't forget. Before captaining him I'd much rather lose him for Gerard.

Aguero's not entirely my cup of tea. However, if Sunderland & Bolton can rattle 7 past Wigan at home...

Not sure about doubling on Sunderland mids. Replace McClean imo.

Would use the money to upgrade a forward, probably Yak.

Not generally a good idea to already have a transfer you want to do, because of injuries etc. If you don't want Jones for the next 6 or so weeks don't get him in your WC.

I hear you on the planned next transfer, although I have one in mind for next week.

If I do plan ahead I try to roll over the FT from the previous week if I can, so have two available, in case injuries etc. happen.

Nothing wrong in having a Plan A, but you definitely need a Plan B and Plan C in this game!

I would upgrade Sess or Mclean, and allow enough funds to replace Yak with Ba when he returns from ACON.

The other thing to look at is the defence and try to get a 3/2 rotation split. I think you've got four homers at the moment, but I think that might change in a couple of weeks.

Gerard (NAP). A nice trio of fixtures coming up and he'll probably be the captain of choice next weekend. His season is effectively only just starting and his form should hopefully get better and better. Nice differential to with only 2% ownership to boot!

Probably Gerrard based on fixtures. But he is so injury prone.

Risky not to have Nani though. He's not at the top of the midfielders points every season for no reason. That said, I reckon a few people will be shipping him out after the Bolton fixture.

Over the next 3 game weeks, which do you think offers the most value.

    A) Wilkinson-->Evans
    B) McAuley-->Evans
    C) Ba-->Bellamy
    D) Ba-->Yak (frees up cash to upgrade defence for next 2 week, pre WC)

I only want to make one transfer (don't think any bar yak could be worth the hit), and currently have Ba out, and Wilkinson & McAuley as doubts. Any one transfer above will give me one bench player who i'm pretty sure will play, thinking Moses at the moment. Team link in user name, any thoughts much appreciated.

    Jack(off)attack

I may have missed something, but can I just say since the whole apologising shenanigans a couple months ago you have improved remarkably on this site. Especially (from what I've seen) not rising to the whole Jack(on)attack situation.

Just impressed at how you have acted since and I thought it deserved some commendation ๐Ÿ™‚

I could really use some advice, guys. Big red arrow this week and my ML lead cut to 28 points, so I'm thinking of using my WC this GW or next. Which in your opinion would be the best scoring combo?

    A) BAE, Dempsey, Cabaye
    B) Shotton, Gerard, Ben Arfa

    thanks

Interesting. Senderos, I will already have when I WC. Mata and Sigurdsson I will be watching.

I did have Mata for a while before he started doing anything but swopped GW10 for VDV and I have Sturridge at the mo. But could put Mata back when Ba comes back in for Sturridge.

Sigurdsson is a distinct possibility to bring in for Gower, but I'd like to see their mf set up first especially if McCreachran comes in as well.

cheers though, food for thought ๐Ÿ˜€

Dunno about Jack but I'd go RVP .. Simply because just like Swansea,Arsenal also like to play the possession game and they're better at it ..

My personal preference would be RVP, he's all rested up after a tough Christmas period and it's just the sort of gameweek where I can see people saying 'why didn't I captain RVP again?'
Nani is just too off form for me, during his recent 2-3 pointers he has at least looked decent, but the last few weeks he has gone missing far too often IMO

What about Jones? Paddy Power thinks Utd's most likely to keep a clean sheet and Jones' most likely to score. Do you think he will start?

Who is the best pick for the next few gameweeks in your opinion: Yakubu or Sturridge?

It seems that Sturridge's fixtures are better and he obviously plays in a better team, but Yakubu has the penalty taking duties. Hmm... such a difficult one.

I did Yak for Sturridge for GW21 when I heard Sturridge was injured. From a standing start today, I'd probably go Sturridge with Drogba at ACON. But as always, depends on the rest of your team as they are different prices. Also, like a lot of others, will be looking at Ba again when he returns from ACON

Morning chaps, WC activated and unsure how to structure my team.
Basically torn between 1 expensive striker or two.

    Team 1:

    Stockdale/Schwarzer, Vorm
    Richards, Skrtel, BAE, SANTON, CAULKER
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon, REO-COKER
    Van Persie, AGUERO, Yakubu

    0.0 in bank

    Team 2:

    Stockdale/Schwarzer, Vorm
    Richards, Skrtel, BAE, EVANS, SIMPSON
Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon, BEN ARFA
    Van Persie, STURRIDGE, Yakubu

(2.0 in bank, to do Yakubu -> Ba after Acon, with some left over to upgrade anywhere else)

Which is the better WC team set-up?
    Thanks very, very much!
