The final countdown has begun with the new season kick-off now less than 24-hours away.

Earlier the week the ScoutCast grew gathered as the clock ticked down, with Jonty, Andy and Luke joining myself to tackle a raft of perfectly targeted questions from you – the community.

Each of us take turns to reveal our current line-ups, while the collection of queries allowed us to put each of the four positions under the microscope. On occasions, we even broke from the ScoutCast tradition to provide some definitive answers.

Pre-season gremlins struck as I dropped out in full flow on Paul Pogba, but I managed to return to steer the ship towards its final destination – the first weekend preview of the new campaign.

It’s good to be back.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    How does this look:

    DDG (Elliot)
    Davies Stephens Ake (Suttner Long)
    KDB Mane Zaha Atsu (Carroll)
    Lukaku Jesus Firminho

If Kane starts firing, I can upgrade Jesus and downgrade Mane (to Willian etc)

Which of those do you think will score more? Your team get so more balanced without Kane I feel. I really see some value in Gabbi & Firmino (sturridge out, and might be on pens).

OK Guys, final thoughts on these 2 teams: (B is obviously more of a risk without Mane, but i feel like it gives me much more rotation)

    A:
    Begovic,Elliott
    Kola, Cedric, Daniels, Hezgai, Suttner
    KDB, Mane, Zaha, Ritichie, Carroll
    Lukaku, Jesus, Firmino

    B:
    Begovic,Elliott
    Kola, Bertrand, Darmain, Cedric, Hegzay
    KDB, Zaha, Ritichie, Phillips, JWP
    Lukaku, Jesus, Firmino

Does anyone else feel like everything about their team selection revolves solely around Firmino vs Jesus/Aguero for the 3rd striker slot?

Kane & Lukaku haven't left my team and it feels very risky to go without either - both nailed on with pens as lone striker for top team with good fixtures.

If I knew Jesus or Aguero would definitely start all games, I think I'd go with them and an uber defence, but to start with I'm thinking it makes more sense to go with Firmino - nailed, possibly on pens and the 2-3m makes a big difference.

    Thoughts?

Can anyone confirm any reason why Cedric won't start? He played 63 minutes against Sevilla in their last game, can't see why they'd have started him if they didn't plan on him starting GW1.

    1. MarvelouSuccess
      • 13 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

he has had less pre season mins than the rest of the squad. that's why.

      1. That Was Easy!
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

That is a silly reason, he's by far their best bet in that position and they would've given the start to whoever they wanted to stat GW1 when they played a good opposition in Sevilla.

        1. Pep says

Think what you want but the fact your asking the question shows doubt on your part so the bottom line is, until the team sheet comes out, he is by no means a 100% starter. Have a backup just incase

    2. Pep says
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

Well they need to get him fit so starting him was obviously the way to go considering it's just a friendly. If he is thought to be lacking a little however, it's most likely he'll be given another week to get up to full fitness.

I have no opinion on whether or not he starts. I prefer Stephens I'm any case. Had Cedric over the past 2 seasons, he was such a let down. I don't see what's gonna change this season

  20. Pep says
    • 10 Years
    8 years, 4 months ago

I've decided to go with a 3 way rotation for the following reasons.

Obviously you have one extra player for only 0.5m

Secondly, having a rotating pair is fine but let's say after a couple of weeks, you find out one of your defenders' teams are leaking goals everywhere then at least you have a backup.

Just some food for thought but Mee could be much more useful than Long for example (if Mee isn't one of your defenders already that is.

Jesus favors Pep, therefore Aguerro is more likely to sit on the bench than Jesus when Pep opts to only play one. Which will inevitably happen.

Jesus was sensational when he first came in. Remember lots of people captning him at Bournemouth then he got injured. Both could score heavily. I like Jesus. Young fresh and world class

      suttner is nailed

    2. Pep says

Naughton is nailed too. Swans are solid at home. Suttner and Brighton are new to the league, the only promoted team I'm going near is Newcastle due to the fact the were in the league a couple seasons ago and Rafa is a top manager with great experience.

Tl:dr avoid Brighton and Huddersfield players. They will not replicate last seasons form. Especially in defence

      1. Feloh
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

ownership will kill you in case case hauls. Owners like me are captaining, so the real question should be. will Jesus and kdb outscore Kane's point ×2 for the first few gw. 20.5 to 12.5.

        1. Catastrophe
          • 14 Years
          8 years, 4 months ago

Yeah I understand that, swings and roundabouts really. I will be captaining Lukaku anyway..so basically I am saying that I think Lukaku (c) and Jesus will outscore Kane (c) and Lukaku. And the 2M invested elsewhere will help too.

None of these are bad options, a certain amount of success will be down to luck.

I just think Spurs may find it tough at Newcastle. Lost 4-1 15 months ago) and home to Chelsea at Wembley not easy either. Jesus a better bet at £2m cheaper. Have alli who should play nr 10 with no son. Have much better players now in other positions

    Help plz!

Is it worth taking Lukaku out and replacing him with Jesus??? I feel City will come out the blocks faster than Utd and most likely to score more goals. This would give me that 1m to strengthen the rest of the team.

Also I have Remond, but I see not a lot of love for him. Southampton have an amazing fixture list?
