League leaders Manchester City travel to the DW Stadium tonight, looking to put breathing space between themselves and their city rivals. The Dugout Discussion chatroom opens in anticipation of the conclusion of Gameweek 21.

Both team sheets have been handed in, and here is how they line-up on this horribly cold Monday night…

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Stam, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, McArthur, McCarthy, Gomez, Crusat, Rodallega, Moses.

Man City XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Savic, Lescott, Clichy, Milner, Barry, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko.

Roberto Martinez continues with Albert Crusat, who manages to shake off a slight back injury to start tonight. James McArthur begins for only the third time in the league this season, replacing Mohamed Diame who is unavailable thanks to the African Cup of Nations.

Manchester City are forced to partner Jolean Lescott and Stefan Savic at centre-back once more, despite a very ropey performance in their defeat to United last weekend. Elsewhere, David Silva is restored to the starting line-up, Sergio Aguero partners Edin Dzeko up front, and Pablo Zabaleta replaces Micah Richards.

Follow all the action in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

i see a lot of people putting BAE in their WC team, I've had him now since around GW11/12 and he has been great for me. However I can't see Spurs form lasting and after the next rise I am shipping out, prob down to a J O'Shea / W Brown as Sunderland are looking solid under MON. Spurs have City / Arsenal / Utd coming up. What are long term owners doing - stick or twist?

I've sold him in my WC team. Spurs defence was always crap and their fixtures areb't good. The chances of another BAE goal are very slim too. People have him coz he's #3 def pts scorer and for not other reason, imho.

will let you off 4V, having to type a lot faster these days to keep up with the speed of each page. i agree, the 24 point haul last GW was absolutely great but you can't rely on a BAE imo.

Things have gotten pretty desperate.... Scored terribly in the last two GW's.

    Krul

    Senderos - Richards - Skrtel

    Bale - Sess - Dempsey - Nani

    RVP - Aguero - Fletcher

    Subs: Vorm Moses, Shotton, Caulker.

What would you suggest I do for next week, already used FT on getting out Yak?

i am switching Ade & sturridge for Aguero & fletcher in my WC which will also have Sess in it. Shotton is a bit of an unknown quantity, I like the idea of Dempsey, even Senderos (I am bringing in Schwarzer in my WC team to rotate with Sorensen).

Wait for injury news on Richards before doing any more transfers.

LONG POST ALERT - if TL, DR 😉

Just reposting this as I put it up in the deadzone. "When to WC". Just systematically going through my thinking when I decided which GW to WC - hope it helps you decide too if you haven't already. If you have another WC remaining, disregard this.

    CRITERIA
Since the wildcard grants unlimited transfers until the GW deadline, the timing of it is a compromise of 6 factors:

    TEAM-DEPENDENT FACTORS
    A) How many transfers do you need to make?
    B) How many transfers might you need to make after your WC?
    C) How many points will you lose while waiting for it? (if at all)
    D) How many points will you gain from using it? (if at all)

    TEAM-INDEPENDENT FACTORS
    E) How much information do you have?
    F) How much time do you have to trade players for profit?

    APPLICATION
Currently like many I have quite a few United, Spurs and Arsenal players and also some poor sods who play for Everton. Given the big clashes this GW and Everton's form, let's consider if I went for this GW. The answer to A and C would seem to be LOTS and LOTS.

At the same time if I specifically WCed against those three clubs I would obviously at some point want to bring some of them back later, making the answer to B LOTS. I would possibly gain points over that GW and even the next 3 perhaps. But I wouldn't be set up for the long term and there's have an opportunity cost - I wouldn't be able to respond to new trends because I'd be busy making these enforced transfers. So the answer to D is NOT SO MUCH.

Information. The longer you wait in January the more information you gain regarding transfers, injuries, suspensions, true form (think McClean) and the considerable list of big players returning from injury. So the answer to E would be NOT AS MUCH AS GW23/24. But for information GW23 is even better than GW24 because the GW starts just before the transfer window closes, and you know the team sheets for Chelsea, Arsenal, United, City and Liverpool!

Time. That's where the final factor F comes into play - the break before GW23 is 10 days whereas it's only 3 for GW24. That's a whole week less to chase profit in a GW. Price changes could well be turbulent in GW23 because that's when the fixtures turn and thus the players turn.

    CONCLUSION
So I've gone for GW23. Yes, I may well have a crap week this GW. But it's a marathon, not a sprint - and I'm choosing the 16 other GWs over the coming one.

Just a final thing - GW23 is not necessarily the best for you because factors A, B, C and D are team-dependent. If you are set up well and don't need to make many transfers, you could wait til the end. Alternatively, if your team is horrible you could do it now. But GW23 looks like the best compromise. Suck it and see.

Yeah I am tempted by GW23 however United and Spurs still have a good fixture in GW24 before it gets bad. I have 2 spurs and 3 united players so I may just hold off till GW24 when the fixtures turn.

Sure? There's always the possibility of actually reducing your points haul if the big four matches are goalfests.

This week I have RVP, Rooney, Ade, Valencia, Bale, BAE and Evans. Aside from Ade who I'll kill and BAE who I'll bench I will play them all and WC week after!

I think you should get Sorensen for Vorm but get Caulker in the defence.
Defence is really solid but I would downgrade one of them to Caulker, probably Cahill.
Silva, Bale and Dyer are good options. Wouldn't double up on Sunderland as you'll have to play one of them every week and they aren't the best of sides.
Get two of the big 3 up front and downgrade who you think is the worst option and upgrade midfield.

Surely that's what you want in a player? Someone who scores a zillion points in 3 or 4 gameweeks then goes off the boil and you get someone else in.

Rooney has always scored goals in sprees. 2 assists against Bolton and so close to 2 goals (missed pen and cross from Valencia).

I'm captaining him against Arsenal. No recognised fullbacks and Nani and Valencia providing service.

    Adice on this WC
    Krul/vorm
    Rtaylor----Huth---Enrique (clark,shotton)
    Gerrard----Dempsey----Bale----Silva----Sessengon
    Strurigge----Fletcher-----VP

    Overall how does it look?
Who would you drop from the front 8 for this GW? (personally thinking bale)

Maybe I have a different slant on things but I use my wc to set up for the future. I don't want to get a player in for one game planning to tranny him out the next gw as there always seems to be another concern that needs addressing. I like to keep it simple, like me 🙂

I think Jones wont be exposed at CB unless necessary. Ferdinand cant play many games in quick succession. Smalling/Rafeal at RB. Few years ago SAF really rated Evans and I dont think that confidence has dissapeared.

I really wanted De Gea to develop more and improve his communication with his defenders, put this season has brought on massive pressure and critism. Probably best to put Lindegaard at no.1. Although I wouldnt mind having De Gea stick at it and prove people wrong.

no. rules of the game say you can play any formation provided you have 1 gk, 3 def, and 1 st
meaning if you fall below one of those numbers you dont get anyone in so you would get 1 mid coming in and thats it
