Suddenly the field has cleared again.

Having appeared to be awash with options and configurations up front, Harry Kane is now surely established as the undisputed primary target in attack.

And while Romelu Lukaku toiled in another four-goal victory for Manchester United, the other contenders for our frontlines have lost some ground.

Alvaro Morata’s early withdrawal against Manchester City has temporarily de-railed his burgeoning reputation and Fantasy ownership.

Confirmed as a hamstring issue by manager Antonio Conte, we must now wait on a further prognosis before we can be clear if this is a setback that will knock the Spaniard out.

Thankfully, Conte appears to be playing down the problem but the Morata bandwagon has hit the buffers for now.

With Sergio Aguero sidelined with a rib injury, Kane and Lukaku seem largely unchallenged heading into the break.

Despite his seven goals in as many Gameweeks, that’s a scenario that flatters Lukaku.

With news breaking post-deadline that the Belgian was struggling with a knock sustained in training, the initial thoughts were that he could miss today’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

He started and completed 90-minutes, but was subdued and failed to deliver the anticipated threat to a beleaguered opponent.

Kane, in contrast, was a menace from the first kick against Huddersfield until Spurs shifted down the gears in the second period.

But, typically this season, Lukaku could and should have matched Kane’s two-goals. He rolled a big chance wide before converting a tap-in from Anthony Martial’s centre.

Maybe the Belgian wasn’t fully fit but, in terms of the “eye-test” and pure performance, Kane demonstrated that he is on a different level at present.

My captain selection – switched to Lukaku overnight – was steered by the fears that Palace would capitulate, with the Terriers perhaps presenting a tougher opponent to Spurs.

To an extent that was true. United had more shots and had five big chances to Spurs’ two.

But Lukaku simply did not expose the Eagles frailty and help himself to the big score that I and many others hoped for and expected.

With United’s schedule now stiffening, Lukaku will doubtless suffer some sales, but those losses would be far more severe were it not for the setbacks for Morata and Aguero.

He may well survive in squads with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus perhaps the most viable and “secure” alternative left standing to partner Kane in our forward lines.

With talk of Aguero returning in four weeks or less, a move for Jesus could also be a short-term measure, aimed at capturing Man City’s plum home encounters with Stoke City and Burnley.

But given that they sandwich a Champions League tie with Napoli, it will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola attempts to manage the minutes of his only out-and-out striker.

Arguably, those jostling with Kane and Lukaku for our attention have failed to build their case heading into the internationals.

Kane looks untouchable, and while Lukaku is nowhere near as devastating, he continues to prove effective. That might be just enough for now.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not sure which play triggered it. Nothing obvious, so he was probably carrying it from the prior game. Looks like he knows his body pretty well though, so hopefully he was just being prudent.

maybe downgrade Richy to the other Watford guy and upgrade one or two of the 4.5 defenders. Maybe you can even stretch to get a city defender by downgrading Hemed to a 4.5 cheapie.

Similar situation to you except i went with laca instead of lukaku because in teams with a premium 3, our midfield really suffers. The extra million is so helpful.

I would consider. The thought of Pep saying he has 6 strikers puts me off. Lukaku is nailed on for 90 mins every game. No strings attached.

I’ve got a terrible team. Here are my dilemmas all with a triple hit:

A: Alonso, Hazard, Sterling, Niasse, Vardy
    B: Alonso, Cork,richarlison, Kane, Vardy
    C: Alonso, sane,richarlison, Niasse, Kane
D: Cedric, hazard, Alli, Niasse, vardy

I’m convinced Hazard is about to come good. Shall I wait to see what Niasse does tomorrow and see how Coutinho and Mane play?

    Cheers

I like the idea of Hazard too but difficult to fit him in. Certainly wait to see if Niasse even retains his place. Look at Azpi instead of Alonso perhaps. Definitely get Kane.

There are better 4.5s than Cork.

So I basically have a 423 right now and need to play a cheap mid or Mbemba each week. Morata could also be a problem so I need to keep this in mind.
    Plan this week
    1. Is Foster to 3.9 utd keeper and Mbemba to otanmeni for a -4
    2. Mhki to Silva also for -8
If I don't not it this week I will. E priced out as have exact cash now.
All three moves for -8 would give this
    Any other ideas welcome.

    Elliot 3.9

If you want to discount the 2 injured ones - but Morata might be ok. There is only 4 left for three position. Laca loses out to the other 3 surely?

Something along those lines, though if I had Jones I'd be tempted to keep just because he's good value. Otamendi not crucial.

The way I see it you can only own 7 "premium" priced players and still have a decent back up team around.

You either own 3 premium defenders + 1 midfielder + 3 premium strikers
    or
    2,2,3
    or
    1,3,3

Personally I think the 2,2,3 choice provides a better balance to the team. What do you guys have?

If Jones is considered premium, then 2-2-3. Otherwise 1-2-3.

looking at premium "priced". I'd say this is anything around 6 and above for defence. I'll allow Davies and Otamendi through only.

For midfield it's 8mil and above

        Strikers 10m and above.

            Forster (Elliot)
Kolasinac Davies S. Ward Naughton (Lascelles)
            Salah Mkhi Groß (Doucoure) (RLC)
            Lacazette Morata Kane

This is my team with 1.3m ITB. I can switch Lacazette to Lukaku and change Forster to Foster if I wanted to. Although I'd rather chance Lacazette to Aguero instead when he's fit again.

I think 7 is the number you can get. 8 is pushing it but it's also possible.

      I'd say 3, 1.5, 3

      De Gea, Kolasinac, Davies

Salah, Ramsey (7m not quite premium?)

      Kane, Lukaku, Vardy

      1. Fanta sea
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

Ramsey doesn't make the cut for me. Vardy isn't premium.

        You have a 3, 1, 2 in my opinion.

You must have money in the bank (probably 2 mil) or a really good back up squad.

        1. TallestJohn
          • 8 Years

Actually 0 in the bank after getting de Gea in.

The rest is fairly strong I guess (at least value-wise) as I don't like to have non-starters. Cheap midfielders have been a mixed bag.

          De Gea, Elliot
          Kolasinac, Davies, Daniels, Lascelles, Löwe
          Salah, Ramsey, Gross, Ince, Carroll
          Kane, Lukaku, Vardy

            Salah Mkhi Groß (Doucoure) (RLC)
            Lacazette Morata Kane

you spend and extra 0.5 in GK. Ramsey and Ince cancels out Mkhi and Doucoure but the difference is I would classify Mkhi as premium priced. In attack the net difference is probably 0.5 more for me. I think I've accumulated more team value than you which is why I can afford Lacazette over Vardy otherwise our team is similarly priced.

          Gomes/Elliot
          Kola/Jones/Davis

Yes I agree with the Jones analysis but I'm removing the obvious anomalies.

I'd say you're a 2-3-2. I'm realizing that teams mostly go for the 7 premium priced players rather than push for 8.

well thats all the budget allows unfortunately , a 2 3 2 premium formation gives a great balance to most teams spreading the points burden nicely

It's possible to get 8 or even 9 (removing kane and lukaku and stocking up at the back).

I have to agree though, a 2-3-2 balance would be nice but there hasn't been any midfielders lighting it up recently. Maybe it'll change with Sanchez soon.

On my GW6 wildcard I went with 2, 1, 3 based on your definition. Kolasinac and Davies
      Salah
      3 big hitters up front

It's been a success thanks to the mid-priced mids so far - Richarlison especially.

      1. Fanta sea

I have the same defence as you so i'm interested to see why you could pair Salah with a midfielder that was 8.0m or higher.

Unless you have De Gea in goal or someone that is worth 5.5 in goal?

        1. Pierce34

No, Elliot is my only playing goalkeeper. Had Kane, Aguero, Lukaku up front. TV was 101.2 with 0.3 in the bank. Now Morata instead of Aguero and I have 1.5 ITB.

Basically Kolasinac, Davies, Salah and the big 3 were non-negotiable. I could've kept Mkhitaryan on my WC, but that meant having to go either 4-3-3 with two 4.5 mids (never an option for me), or have Atsu as my 4th mid, who I didn't fancy either. In the end, I went with Ramsey, Richarlison and Choupo-Moting to partner Salah as I preferred them as a group to Mkhi, 1 of Richarlison/Choupo-Moting and Atsu.

Yep I got you. You intentionally chose 6 "premium" for a better bench. I kept Mkhi but I only have 1 4.5m midfielder. It is true though that you're almost forced to play a 4-3-3 formation unless I upgrade that 4th midfielder. I currently looking to make quick value to get that 4th midfielder to around 6.0m

Oh no my bench is still bog-standard fare - 4.5 mid, 4.5 def, 4.0 def.

What I wanted to avoid was having to play a 4.5 midfielder every week, which was other people's solution to having Kane, Aguero and Lukaku up front.

              Basically a midfield of 9, 8. 6, 4.5 is what I didn't want
              Mine is 9, 7, 6, 5.5.

Essentially same amount of money on the midfield, but would be Ramsey & Choupo-Moting vs. other people's Mkhitaryan & Carroll.

Now that I've got Morata for Aguero I have 1.5 to play with, so Ramsey can become a City mid if I want.

I apologize. When I referred to the bench, I'm talking about the rest of the starting 11. But I understand what you've done. I'm currently on 9, 8.1, 5.4, 5.1, 4.5 which are the prices I bought them at.

All my defenders are 4.5 and above. I'll prob downgrade my keeper to 4.5 and a defender to 4.0 to fund the 1million to get the 5m midfielder to 6m.

I'd be happy to keep, he should be dangerous. If there's a City mid you fancy you could downgrade.

Yoshida not a certain starter, saw quite a few Soton fans complaining about Hoedt not starting on Twitter. The rest of your defence can sub in though.

I don't see a need to have alli and eriksen. I'd take alli out for a city midfielder and then use that money to upgrade a defender to get Davies since you can now have him as one of the 3 from Spurs.

I'd slightly favour Sterling because he seems to play a bit more centrally and have more goal threat. I believe Sane has been used as a wingback once or twice which slightly dents his appeal, but both can haul.

Re:KDB, he's still good to have and guarantees starts over other City mids, but if other 9m+ mids are playing well he probably takes up too much space.
