Yahoo Focus – Gameweek 31

There may only be four matches in a reduced Gameweek 31 slate but our partner game Yahoo are once again rolling out another big-money contest for Fantasy managers this weekend.

They are offering a Premier League £2k Saturday contest, which takes in all four of tomorrow’s fixtures. This gets underway with the three matches at 3pm and concludes with the 5.30pm encounter between Liverpool and Watford at Anfield.

The contest is guaranteed to run, costs £5 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to four teams. The top 100 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £200 going to the first place.

Driven by Opta data, the Yahoo game has a unique scoring system which is ideal for those members of our community on the lookout for a Daily Fantasy Sports game.

If you’re new to Yahoo, you can sign up and claim a free £50 in credit to your account when you deposit just £5. Promo code: Fantasy50.

Before getting started on your lineup, it’s best having a read over our Strategy Guide, which takes a look at the types of players who profit from the rule set.

FFS Strongest XI

Loris Karius – £16
Emre Can – £16
Florent Hadergjonaj – £13
Adam Smith – £11
Junior Stanislas – £19
Xherdan Shaqiri – £18
Badou Ndiaye – £15
Sadio Mane – £25
Mohamed Salah – £27
Steve Mounie – £18
Theo Walcott – £22

As the only top eight team set to play in Gameweek 31, we’re backing Liverpool at both ends of the pitch for the visit of Watford. The Yahoo scoring system, which awards goalkeepers points for wins or draws and earn double the number of points as defenders for a clean sheet, earns Loris Karius the spot between the posts. Jurgen Klopp’s side have won five of their last six at Anfield and, along with Man City, are one of only two teams that remain undefeated in front of their own fans. Meanwhile, the Hornets roll up to Merseyside on the back of a run that’s produced just a single goal in their previous six road trips.

Listed as a defender in Yahoo this week, Emre Can offers strong out-of-position potential. Across the last six Gameweeks, the German midfielder has served up two goals and a pair of assists and sits among the top three for Liverpool when it comes to successful tackles (13) and interceptions (six). Can has made more successful passes (379) than any team-mate over his respective last six appearances at Anfield.

Huddersfield’s Florent Hadergjonaj has caught the eye in recent weeks thanks to his impact in the final third. Since nailing down a starting role in Gameweek 24, the raiding right-back is ranked top among defenders for crosses (44) and successful crosses (11), and sits second for key passes (ten) ahead of a visit from Crystal Palace. His defensive contribution could also be key as the Terriers go in search of a seventh home clean sheet – Hadergjonaj is ranked top among team-mates for blocks (five) over that period.

A single clean sheet in 17 Gameweeks is anything but convincing as Bournemouth welcome West Brom to the Vitality Stadium. Nonetheless, Adam Smith looks a handy budget enabler at a cost of just £11 – after emerging from the bench to score at home to Newcastle in Gameweek 28, he’s started the last two as a right winger and also chipped in with the assist for the Cherries’ opener against Spurs last Sunday.

With the goals drying up for Callum Wilson, Junior Stanislas is our preferred Bournemouth attacker against the Baggies. Since recovering from injury and returning to contention in Gameweek 24, he’s supplied three goals and two assists in seven league outings, netting against the likes of Chelsea and Spurs. Over the last six Gameweeks, Stanislas is second only to Harry Kane for shots (22 to 29), while no midfielder has managed more than his eight efforts on target.

With three goals and an assist in Stoke’s seven matches under Paul Lambert, Xherdan Shaqiri has played a part in 80% of their strikes since the change of manager. At home to an Everton defence that’s conceded 14 times in their last five road trips, the playmaker looks essential to their chances of success – he ranks among the top six midfielders for successful crosses (42), key passes (63) and big chances created (14).

We also call upon the Potters’ winter signing Badou Ndiaye, whose style of play looks well-suited to the Yahoo scoring matrix. Since being handed his debut in Gameweek 26, the all-action Senegal international has fired more shots (13) and made more successful tackles (17) than any team-mate.

At home to a Watford side with a single clean sheet in their last eight away matches, Liverpool pair Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will be among the most popular picks for Gameweek 31.

Mane has upped his attacking threat in recent matches, with five goals and an assist in his last five matches across all competitions. Indeed, over the last four Gameweeks, he’s identical to the Egyptian for both shots (14) and chances created, with eight apiece.

Salah, meanwhile, is second only to Harry Kane (14) for shots inside the box over the last four rounds of fixtures, bettering Mane by 13 to ten. The Egyptian remains relentlessly consistent under Jurgen Klopp, producing a goal or assist in 12 of his 14 home starts this term.

Two goals and a pair of assists in the last four Gameweeks showcases the form of Huddersfield Town target man Steve Mounie for the visit of West Brom. The Frenchman matches Salah and Mane for total attempts (14), firing 12 efforts inside the box as he prepares to collide with a Crystal Palace defence that he scored twice against back in Gameweek 1.

Passed fit for Everton’s trip to Stoke, Theo Walcott offers numerous ways of scoring points in Yahoo. Since arriving on Merseyside, he has fired more shots (13) and efforts on target (six) than any team-mate, finding the net twice. Second only to the injured Gylfi Sigurdsson for crosses (33) and successful crosses (six), the winter signing places third for successful tackles (14) among the Toffees’ contingent and has been fouled 19 times – only Eden Hazard (24) has suffered more often from Gameweek 24 onwards.

As Yahoo allows late swaps up until each kick-off, our listed line-up may well be subject to change.

The Weekend Contests

As well as the Premier League £2k Saturday contest, Yahoo are also offering two guaranteed to run Premier League £500 Saturday contests.

This one costs £1 to enter and is a multi-entry game, which means you can select up to five teams. The top 124 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £2, with £50 going to the first place.

This one costs £25 to enter and is a single-entry game. The top 6 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £50, with £150 going to the first place.

You can open an account and get started immediately.

If you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used as cash to enter paid contests.

For the last time want to get over with these transfers tonight and can’t wait for tomorrow to activate my wildcard.

    Best option out of these?

    A) Mane & Wilson
    B) Mane & Benteke
    C) Mane & Baines
    D) VVD & Stanislas

Have no other Bournemouth attacker, Palace attacker or Everton defender. Have Van La Parra so not getting Mounie.

    Appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

Team for this week after FT:

      VVD Schindler

      Salah Choup

      Wilson King Firmino

(Pope, Davies, Mee, Naughton, Micky, Son, Mahrez,)

Worth taking a hit to get either Butland or Baines?

Are you wildcarding any time soon?

I dont think Baines is the worst idea to bring in, in effect if he scores 2 points its a 2 point hit.

Attacking player, possibly on pens/free kicks. Could be worse.

Wouldn't do it for a GK though.

Afternoon fellas. If anyone is interested, have a look at this "Who Scores More This Week?" conundrum:

Team A) - Pickford; Ake, Baines; Shaqiri; Mounie, Sorloth
Team B) - Lossl; VVD, Coleman, TAA; L. Cook, Zaha, Ox, Stanislas; Tosun
Team C) - Karius; Robertson, Lovren, Schindler; Davies, Pritchard; Wilson, Firmino

If you can be bothered, let me know!

                It's a draft league, hence the non-duplication.

Yeah I think C has the highest potential for points.

I think you're set to be honest.

The only defender I'd be thinking of taking a hit for would be someone like Baines or a Bournemouth defender if you're confident they won't concede.

It's a risk either way and one that probably doesn't need to be made seeing as you have quite a strong 9 players already.

                My GW31 team is currently:

                Robertson
                Shaq Walcott Salah
                Firm Mounie

My rival halved the deficit last week to just 25 points behind me but only has 5 players after his transfer this week and no FH. Do I:

                a) Smell blood, play my FH and hopefully reestablish a 50 point lead ahead of the last 7 GWs where we have all the same chips
                b) Just FT and get up to 7, hold my FH
                c) Take a hit(s) to get out 8/9, hold my FH

                1. JohnnyMagrinho
                    6 years, 1 month ago

You could easily take a hit to get up to 8 players. It will cost you -2 points in effect, and you're giving yourself more chance to get more points.

Don't think you need to FH - use that to your advantage later on in more profitable weeks. There's only 4 games here so less chance to get more points as you're looking at a smaller pool of players.

-4 hit or just 1 FT for me.

If i play 11 players my team will be in total shet for the next few gameweeks.

Missing Arsenal assets will ruin me.

                  A. Butland for Adrian

                        Shaqiri :
                        - You don't have Stoke cover
                        - Many managers have him (avoid damage for you)
                        - Mostly included in Stoke's goal rather than Stan in BOU

Agreed (obviously depending on the state of your squad).

Not quite sure of the rush to wildcard in gw32. Spurs and Chelsea should feature in many wildcards, and they face each at that week.

Meanwhile we'll all have plenty of Liverpool and City players already - both with great fixtures (albeit with an increased risk of rotation).

Think I would rather wait until 33 when we have more information . But then I already have Auba and triple Liverpool attack and I'll probably be weakening my team for this specific week if I wildcarded.

I think the urgency is more about spreading the Kane cash. And Chelsea facing Spurs isn't so bad... I mean there's still gonna be goals/ clean sheets to be had, what are the chances of a 1-1 with Kante and Dier scoring 😛

Exactly. Depends on wether you can field a decent XI in 32. If you can't, then WC in 32 is probably amore good idea. If you can then might as well wc in 33. Only downside isis is havinga only 1 ft for 34

Who has ever compared them to those players though? If you fancy getting points and taking advantage of the chip, there is definetely merit in asking the question regardless of their point potential. There are only four teams playing. Who are people supposed to inquery about? Or would you prefer a deadzone until next week?

There are plenty of other questions others are asking - questions like the value of taking hits for players, for example 🙂

If they ask wether to take a hit for a player, surely it will depend on who they bring in - which will lead to the same question: Mounie or Wilson? Or something similar. Point invalid

Not offended at all - I've just seen your "arguments" before (that you don't pick apparently) and they are just far too boring to engage with. Good luck for this GW and the rest of your season 🙂

Think what he means is that it's a shame 9/10 posts are of questions no one has the answer to, rather people just looking for opinions that are hopefully biased towards their viewpoints.

My advice. Watch Jay Egersdorff's YouTube video and take his advice. I'm sorry I haven't done it more often this season..

That is just FFS in a nutshell. Who has the right answer to anything? Its football.. not a simple equation to solve.

Discussing and debating picks is what FFS is about. Should not matter which players are to be discussed. Obviously it is going to be the same players that are mentioned in a week without only 8 teams playing. What did you honestely expect?

Jay Egersdorff is a talented manager, not sure where youre going with that though

It's a pity that it's 'FFS in a nutshell'. The indecisiveness of some people makes me wonder how they navigate in the real world.

Jay's advice is better than most managers on here. All season it's been pretty solid. Not going anywhere with it just recommending people to listen to it instead of wrecking their heads over poor players who are more likely to blank than produce returns

Might be if your chasing yes.. but the odds of one asset producing 4 pts or more is less than 50 percent...

Managed to get this lineup without any hits:

                    Foster
                    Hegazi - Dijk - Schindler
                    Salah (C) - Shaqiri - La Parra
                    Firmino - Mounie

Bench: Elliot, Mee, Otamendi, Sterling, Carroll, Agüero.

Anything here worth a hit to field a player more? Stanislas maybe? (Bit annoying have two WBA-defenders and bring him in for a hit.. haha)

As crazy as Mourinho's press conference was, he makes solid points. Inheriting Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero, Sterling, Fernandinho as the core of the team is a nice starting point. They have won many titles together.

Jose inheritated a team that had been failing for a number of years, and it will take many more to fix the rot. So much deadwood stuck there from seasons back. But adding Lukaku, Alexis, Matic, Bailly is a good start. Give him a decade in charge! 🙂

And Guardiola has made all of those players better while Mourinho can't figure out how to get the best out of top players like Sanchez and Pogba.

Thought it was interesting than when talking about his legacy when he eventually leaves, he said that the team will be stronger for having Lukaku, Matic and DDG.

it's sweet isn't it. they will literally hang onto anything that makes them seem morally better. including the references to City players being doped up / having dodgy injections when injured. funny when Jesus was ruled out - they're all saying "he'll be back in 2 weeks instead of 6 LOL" - turned out to be nearer 8!
