FiT

World Cup Fantasy iTeam Returns to FFS

With the domestic programme now over and the World Cup just under a month away, it’s time to give you a heads-up on Soccerway Fantasy iTeam, our partner game for the tournament.

We’re delighted to be working with FiT once again, for another exciting summer of football, having previously enjoyed the game over the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Champions League.

A free Fantasy football app, FiT is available on a number of mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPodTouch and Android. It’s free to download and play, so you can start drafting your starting XI with unlimited transfers now.

We’ll be supporting FiT throughout the summer and have an official Fantasy Football Scout League, with a £1000 of Amazon vouchers to give out, split between the top three performers. There’s also the small matter of £10k worth of prizes available in the main competitions: Overall World Championship and Manager of the Gameround.

FiT hands managers an initial budget of £75 million from which to select their starting XI. There are seven formations (4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 5-4-1, 5-3-2, 3-5-2 or 3-4-3). The scoring system will be famiilar, although there are several subtle differences from Fantasy Premier League.

If you’ve been itching to commit to a World Cup game and you’ve got a compatible device, then this is the chance to get going. Click here for the official website and download the app.

We’ve already set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league for you to join – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 1887.

We’ll be ramping up our coverage of the game and our league over the next week or so. We’ll start by giving the Fantasy iTeam rules a good grilling, before following up with a scan of their player list for potential bargains.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The only players we've got that would get into the French side are Kane, Sterling and Jonesy. And France aren't even as stong as, say, Germany. We've reallu got no chance 🙁

They got that in Umtiti. Varane to partner and be the ball playing defender.

I'm assuming you mean sterling and Jones may scrape the bench? They wouldn't do first team France. Kane yes. Kane could get into any team though I think. We are completely dependent on his form

Nah. Jonesy over Sakho all day and with no Martial or Lacazette there, Sterling would be nailed

Admittedly I haven't seen the French team but griezmann playing off of Mbappe makes sterling look underwhelming. I didn't even realise sakho was in the frame! So yeah, I agree Jones over him. I was assuming Varane and Umtiti with Koscielny out? I'd say Hernandez is quality though, more so than Jones

Yeah, I'd probably leave out Sterling too actually - if Kane's taking the top spot it's hard to argue against Mbappe and Griezmann in the supporting roles. And it looks like you're right on the defensive situation too based on Cloudsky's posts. Umtiti/Varane vs Smalling/Jonesy - you could toss a coin I guess

We are limited in quality. Will Southgate accept this though? If so, he should know we need to play like Greece in Euro 2004 or Portugal in Euro 2016. Park the bus and use Sterling, Rashford and Kane/Vardy on the counter

Genuine question: a trophyless second season with mourinho, what is your assessment of him as a manager and your chances of silverware next season?

I wanted him gone a year and a half ago so well ahead of the curve. We need to do a City and spend big in the window if we're to challenge for major honours.

It's not like you haven't spent big though. Mourinho going on about city spending 50m on defenders, how much was Lindelof? Walker is a bargain at 50m is Lindelof was acceptable.
I agree you need to spend but maybe mourinho just isn't getting the best out of these guys? Pogba is still inconsistent, Lukaku hasn't pushed on, he couldn't do anything with mkhi

        1. Sánchez
          • 11 Years
          5 years, 11 months ago

He isn't getting the best out of many players, but at the same time, some of those players just aren't as good as the hype and prices suggest

Pogba very much guilty of this. Ferguson wouldn't have let him go if he was that special.

Lukaku is just a good striker but hasn't got that extra level the very best have.

Martial is one I particularly think hasn't fulfilled the potential he had. Originally all signs were he would be top quality but he's never come close to that.

But I'd say some of these players have themselves to blame. Pogba does. Mkhi definitely did. And Luke Shaw just needs to get a grip of himself

            All fair points.
I don't think any of those players particularly fit the champion profile.
I'm curious about your point on mkhi tho? I think he's a good player and United are missing him

I guess it comes down to the age old issue of who would you get instead of him.
I wasn't trying to suggest who should go...just that he's no longer this successful manager

        1. Sánchez

He isn't. He's lost that magic touch for motivating players and getting them to play for him. His best success always came from building that type of atmosphere around his team. Now he publicly ridicules some of his own men.

Cup or no cup this season was pretty much.. underwhelming? We improved a lot from Moyes and LvG days but that isn't saying much. I think he is a good manager but should've done better this season, for me it doesn't matter how we play.. football is played in too many different ways and winning is all that matter in the end. If next season is anything like that then nah it is just not working, would like to see him go.

I believe that our chances are pretty high for the league next season. I don't see anyone challenging for it next season bar City.

Agreed on everything but I wouldn't rule out Liverpool, yes they'll probably choke but looking at second half of the season, they've got great consistency, the signings are coming together and Klopp makes good signings.
I'm interested to see who city bring in as they'll need to improve in order to stay ahead. Chelsea could galvanize with the right new manager and new forward

I think Poch is definitely obtainable. He has issues with his club’s board and has publicly called them out to step it up a level if they want to compete otherwise they’ll be left behind.

As for Mourinho, he’ll probably get another season but I’m not optimistic for it. City and Liverpool look in the best shape for next season, they have a settled team, system, tactical structure and are making all the right signings. The development of United players has largely stunted in the last 2 years. Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Shaw - most with bags of talent haven’t improved at all. If anything they’ve regressed. Yes, Lingard has had his most consistent season to date and Lukaku has arguably improved overall but the players are simply not developing and we’re still playing like a disjointed side that’s never played with each other before for the most part. Big summer coming up though, since both our fullbacks are simply outdated, we need another CM and hopefully a CB (Alderwerield).

And as for Poch, I believe he’s taken Spurs as far as possible. With their resources (budget, wage structure etc), you could say they’ve overperformed. At United, he’d get the big salary and all the available resources he desires. 🙂

Martial and in particular Rashford were starting to prosper under Van Gaul, Utd teams have always bought the young players through but this has never been Morinhos way. He would rather bring in a 37 year old swede.

He a very poor fit for them

Just because it was a link to the old launch and that's about it. Folk are waiting for the game to launch so it was a bit misleading but no big deal. Would have been fine if you'd actually posted the date of that launch - 13/5.

Hi Dexy. The initial values were based on the squads from the last set of friendlies, so we're just waiting for Opta to add the other players as squads are confirmed, we then value them within 24 hours.

We knew that by launching early we'd have a lot of players missing, but with unlimited free transfers up until kick off we thought it better to allow people to start tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Looking beyond FPL

Fantasy Premier League is without doubt the most popular Fantasy football game, with almost 6m teams registered by the season close.

But what other Fantasy football games should FPL players also consider playing?

What other Fantasy football games did you play last season? Which did you enjoy?

Are any better than FPL in your opinion?

What lessons can FPL learn from other games?

And for those who play multiple formats - what advice would you give in ensuring you can do well in all of them? Do you sometimes make decisions in one game - that would be better suited to another?

From all of the games I've played, FPL is quite easily the best out there, so they shouldn't learn anything from other games.

I would like to see a return to UFPL though.

Yep there's a reason so many play FPL.

Loved UFPL too. Didn't do so well at it but that didn't matter I enjoyed it, the strategy and stats. Was a really nice addition to the Fantasy football games out there.

For me I played Sky, FPL Draft and Dugout Draft as well as FPL last season.

I really enjoyed Sky - spent pre season listening to the experts like Buffrey, Dan Cox and Disable on how it requires a different strategy. Patience is a key part of this limited transfers game - but I'm ok with that anyway. A key thing to address was to avoid using Sky to hedge FPL decisions. Treating it as a good game in its own right brought rewards definitely.

I didn't like FPL Draft at all - just felt that the FPL scoring and rules had been shoehorned into a different format without much thought. Meant that in a league of eight or more the pool of players was very limited. I much preferred Dugout Draft- they tailor the scoring to ensure the pool is large - so defensive midfielders get points for their attributes like tackling and passing.

I haven't played Eliteserien but it looks a good game and is really popular here. Also worth noting that this Norwegian game has excellent chips - especially park the bus (double points for defenders).

The biggest problem I found with FPL draft was the drop out rate, I entered a 15 team league of Fantasy Football Scout members (including TorresMagic) in which only two of us played for the whole season. Most of my games were against sides full of injured or out of favour players, which both devalued the league and result in the majority of the PL players being unattainable to those still playing.

Yep - we had one of those in our Dugout league. Was ok just one though and he was pretty good about it as deliberately skewed his team to ensure anyone could win against it. Just meant that every few weeks all of us had a meaningless tie.

The simple answer for me is none. Fpl is so popular for a few reasons which the Sun or Telegraph games don't replicate.

      1) Simple point scoring system. No points for blocks, interceptions, passes, etc which keeps it easy for the casual. You could argue bonus points, but how many of the 6 million players look at the constituents of the bonus points?

      2) New transfer every week. Unlike the games with a fixed set of transfer where you lose interest after you've burned through your 40 for the season or whatever it is, Fpl keeps you engaged.

      3) Scale. When all your friends play Fpl, that's where your mini leagues are. I'd reckon for most people the goal is to win their mini leagues, and this is where it happens.

      Telegraph Fantasy Football.

Simple game. No arguments over bonus as there are no bonus points, partial clean sheet points for defenders, no captaincy. 40 transfers a season.

FPL was the only game I played for years, until Fantasy Eliteserien came along last year. It's basically the same game for the Norwegian league as it's for FPL, with some small differences. I have never bothered with similar games for the Norwegian league before, as I didn't like the scoring systems and other rules.

MrKlin of Norway wrote a good piece on the differences between FPL and the Norwegian game (and the Swedish one as well)

Eliteserien for me. Similar to FPL,so easy to play. Love the live updates, man in the stands bonus system. The innovative chips add a different dimension to the game. One different thing from FPL though is the plethora of options in defence in Eliteserien. So many defenders playing OOP, taking set pieces, etc makes 4 or 5 at the back a viable formation. Niemi and MrKlin's articles make it easy to play.
Surely FPL can pick up some chip ideas from Eliteserien

FPL is the best by quite some distance.

I'm playing UCL fantasy and there're several issues that make enjoying the game not easy.

Something FPL definitely shouldn't learn from UCL is the positioning of wingers.
UCL have them all down as forwards so the remaining midfielders are just a poor overpriced bunch of defensive mids with 0 attacking threat.

The Europa League game was great but sadly didn't open again for the past season.
There was no standard template team because of so many choices and one really had to spend several hours to research. No one was saying do A or do B, you had to trust your own selections in this game (same goes for the European Qualifiers game which they have changed to the daily XI format now).

MLS also was great fun but with the new daily XI format I also stopped playing it.
No planning, no strategy, less skill 😉

Ive played fpl for 5 years now and i havnt found any other that quite matches it.

Although Niemi has gotten me into Fantasy Eliteserien recently and, Ive got to say, it gives fpl a run for its money. Love that i had no idea of anyone prior to getting started and so decisions are purely based on the stats that i can dig up. Also, the chips are far better and the live updates are a nice change.

Would definitely recommend for those going through fpl withdrawals. Thanks Niemi

Axed after 2nd season no ? Nevertheless agree was a great game. Having a bigger squad also gave you the chance to go with a few risky but (occasionally) explosive players . You can't do the same in FPL

I Prefer the sky format myself.

Fpl is the ultimate game but they make so much hard work of it. Fpl used to be the best format until they modified it to make it appeal to the masses. All about the money I guess. More players = more revenue from advertising

UFPL would be the best game if it returned. I love that format and if I found decent cash league id probably concentrate more on that than FPL. I emailed them but no reply which I guess isn't good

Dream Team is dross. If you don't get a good start it's really hard to come back as all the players have rocketed in price and it's even worse than FPL for a template

I came from TFF to FPL. And it occurred to me that TFF had designed a game to fix all the common grumbles of FPL, i.e. Make transfers after line ups have been released, equal points for a centre forward goal, select more than 3 players from the same team, partial clean sheet bonus, 3 points for key contributions so there is no controversy over assists and no bonus points etc etc I much prefer FPL by the way, but TFF is very good.

I'd like to try other games, such as Sky, but I know none of my mates would want to make the jump across as they're comfortable with FPL and it's easy to use.

For me, I need a mini league and rivals to make it interesting, either by trying to catch them or holding it off. I could play Sky, for example, but I'd just be one person playing for Overall rank or in the FFS league and that wouldn't be able to sustain my interest as much.

The only other game I played this year was the Champions League game, which I managed to do pretty well in and managed to get a few mates to sign up to. I do like how that game is different (deadline is kick-off so you can see line ups, plus you can swap captains/subs on the Wednesday night after the Tuesday games) but also feels a little easy too because of it.

Knockout tournament fantasy games are also very different to a 38-week league game, in that the business end is the start. Once the group stages are over, it becomes much harder to make any ground because the pool of teams is smaller and everyone gravitates towards the star players left in the tournament, leaving most with vastly similar squads. I imagine the World Cup game will be similar.

I played Sky for the first time this season and thought it was a really good format. I liked the way the prices don't change so you can plan quote far ahead. I agree that I probably unconsciously hedged between sky and FPL this results in a player scoring well and me thinking although I don't have him in my FPL team I have him in my sky team, so it isn't so much of a wake up call as if you only did FPL.

I’ve never played FPL and have only ever play Sky and Dream Team back in the day.

My issue with FPL is the prizes, the poor bloke who won its gets a ticket to a match doesn’t he after beating 6million people? Sky / Dream Team you could have potentially paid your mortgage off.

People talk of cash leagues on here for FPL which would probably interest me more in it but how do they work? Are there any public ones as most of my friends play Sky?

      Good post coach.

Fpl may be the biggest game but it also has flaws like the rule changes mid season and new teams each week using chips.

Played Sky last season but will be giving it a miss next as so many problems with the app one including picking captains one day then log in on match day to find them reverted back.

Will be giving Telegraph a miss also as it seems very dullard as no captains and the pricing is very odd.

I will only be playing Fpl, Fit, Mail and Goal next season as the apps are engaging, similar and with good community’s.

MLS fantasy us quite good, You can change you whole team every week, which is good and bad, good as you could change your team, bad as it depends on a lot of research, every single week.

First season playing Eliteisarien and I'm loving it. It fills the FPL summer void nicely as it runs from March to Nov and as others have said great chips and the live rank update as the matches are on is a great feature.

Have even started watching the five minute highlights of each match to get a better sense of players to go for. The gameweek previews on FFS from Neimi and Mr Klin are excellent too.

I've played auction league (http://www.fantasyleague.com/Pro) for 10 years. It has become more important than FPL for me. It requires learning how to play a live auction night - drinking but keeping track of everything, sticking to your tactics. It took about 5 or 6 years to develop but I've won 3 of the last 4 years. These don't include 'knowing' who will score well.
FPL has become a hedge which is a shame as I'd like to give it a proper crack. Maybe now I've won 3, I can do that but the £250 in bets and prize pool isn't replicated in FPL.
FFS has given me an edge in terms of fixture planning for defenders and emerging players. Each month you have sealed bid transfers and I won it on that really.

For the Australians out there, AFL Supercoach is a great game, other than being a different sport it differs to FPL in a couple important respects:

      - More focused on generating cash to upgrade players to 'premiums'.
      - Price changes are based on past scores rather than supply/demand.
      - Players scores are left-skewed rather than right-skewed, as in FPL.
      - Limited number of trades both per week and over the whole season.

But otherwise it's the same - pick the players that will score the most points. It's perhaps even more reliant on statistics than FPL.

I mentioned this above but I thought I’d give it a full post because having played it a lot previously I’m a big fan of this game.

For Fantasy iTeam, if someone sets up a mini- league where no one can buy extra transfers then it’s a level playing field for all - those who don’t want to spend money or don’t already have any credits can put their team in that league and those who have credits can them to put a second team in that league at limited extra cost.

Big transfer window coming up for some English players:

GK: Joe Hart and Jack Butland - where are they going to move to?
GK: Tom Heaton vs Nick Pope - who will be no.1 at Burnley and will the other one move on?
DEF: John Stones has fallen behind Kompany, Laporte and Otamendi - is he happy to rot on the bench? Ditto Delph who will have Mendy ahead of him and possibly others
DEF: Alfie Mawson - where is he going to move to?
DEF: Clyne has fallen behind TAA and Gomez at Liverpool - will one of Clyne or Gomez move?
MID: Wilshere out of contract and seemingly not wanted by Arsenal. Drinkwater frozen out at Chelea
MID: RLC will return to Chelsea - is he happy to sit on the bench there?
FW: Rashford is a bit part player at Utd - is happy to continue to be a bit-part player?

Due to the rules in regards to prizes, we have had to hide the league from anyone that doesn't meet that criteria.

Not Worldcup fantasy football, but WC fantasy prediction set and forget for stage winners - and there are prizes. I created a Fantasy Football scout league if anyone wants to have a guess at the resuts, if this is already done can you point me in the right direction to join?

    https://bracketchallenge.fifa.com/bracket/leaguejoin/b7a5fcbd

Just a quick bit of fun, takes 5 mins.

Ignore my username - was going to change it to the correct spelling, but there's no way to edit it once joined!

If this is in bad taste obviously please delete!

For World Cup fantasy it would be helpful to know how many games a player played in the qualifiers, so we know who is likely to be nailed on.

Can FFS, Alan or FiT provide this info, please?

Will this guy eat into Firmino's, Salah's and Mane's minutes?

Liverpool are close to completing a £60m deal for Lyon's 24-year-old French forward Nabil Fekir. (Sunday Mirror)

Fekir usually plays as the top of the diamond in a 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-3-1-2 system.
He has played on the right wing occasionally in the past but not very recently. In his first few seasons he played as a central striker alongside Lacazette.

So not sure how he fits into Liverpool's system as they don't really have his favourite/best position.

Will Marco Silva get the best out of Zaha?

Everton have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace and Ivory Coast forward Wilfried Zaha, 25, in a £60m deal. (Sun on Sunday)

    1. Darth_Krid
      • 6 Years

He did wonders with Richarlison, so Zaha would be right up his street.

Good buy for Everton if they get him, they're crying out for pace. Still think Zaha is ready for a Top 6 club though. Was way too soon for him to go to United but now he's come on leaps and bounds. Would be great at Spurs or Arsenal, a huge upgrade on Sissoko or Iwobi, for example.

He's definitely good enough for a champions league club. He makes things happen.

Can’t see this being a move that Zaha would want. He seems happy at Palace. I personally think he get into just about any team in the league, but is Everton really an appealing move for him and how much did his experience at Man Utd taint his view of going to a top six club?

How many people really play FPL?

I know there getting on for 6m accounts but how many actually play it from start to finish? Is there any way of measuring it.

There seems to have been an explosion of people opening accounts week after week just to go for weekly prizes by exploiting chips, is this a factor in the recent rapid rise in accounts?

    1. Fantasy Gold
      • 9 Years

There are a lot of GW1 teams set up and never touched again.

Then there’s people who play for a few weeks and get bored/give up.

Then there’s also a lot of late joiners who attempt to win the weekly prizes.

And also a lot of multi-accounts made by cheaters trying to gain an edge in money MLs.

What do you class as some e playing from start to finish. I know some players who play all season but make a total of around 15 transfers. To the outsider they'd look like a dead team.

I played the telegraph version all season but may have gone a good few weeks without any activity ... active account is some one who does something with the team in first half of the season and second half of the season ... a few transfers here, a chip there, etc

FPLDiscovery post some numbers, in a random sample of 20,000 teams in GW38 only 20.4% had used all five chips (including 2 wildcards as chips) with 29.9% using no chips at all. They define 'active' as making a transfer in the last four weeks and of that same random sample there were 7,398 (37%). Of those 7,398, 51.3% of them used all five chips so 3,795 (18.9%) out of that random 20,000 sample made one transfer in 4 GWs AND all five chips. Extrapolate that out and you have 1.1m active teams.

            Spreadsheet at https://fpldiscovery.wordpress.com/2018/05/13/17-18-gw38-team-selection-and-stats/

Yeah well that’s somebody who dips in and out as the reason for 15 transfers is probably just forgetting to set their team.

Casuals innit. Not a dead team.

    3. Darth_Krid
      • 6 Years

Someone could probably run a script to see who has made transfers and when. If someone went more than 5 GWs, for example, without a transfer then they would be considered inactive.

Really wish they'd do away with weekly prizes for new accounts, or take hits out of the equation. Bit of a slap in the face to see someone on a -48 win it with a random Triple Captain after signing up halfway through the season.

Active should be any activity, day, in the first half of the season and second half of the season, .... some don’t take the game seriously and like to set the team and let it run, don’t know much about chips or losing transfers etc., but nevertheless still active at times ... not sure where we need to pidgeon hole activity - either there is activity or there is not 🙂

It's fairly limited tbh. It does have a squad selector and guesses prices for next season so you can play around creating lots of potential teams which can be saved for further tinkering.

The only really useful tool for me was the rotation planner [when the fixtures are announced] which can be adjusted for multiple options in defence and attack.

The tool that spy's on rivals is amusing but not likely to garner you any more points.

I play alot of different fantasy football games. Had my best season in sky sports my overall finishing 1,608. I won two super 6 leagues and one six a side league. I Team game i won my premier league mini league, overall i finished 278. Also won my european super league mini league.
I was sitting second, 130+ points behind the leader with about 8 weeks until the end. I was still trailing with gw's to go. In the last double game week Coutinho scored me 36 points, along with Kolorov two clean sheets.
I ended up winning by 27 points. Rest of the games i play Champions League I Team, FPL, The Telegraph, Official Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, Eliteserien. FPL might still be the most popular, but need's to iron out it's flaws. Personally enjoy playing
I Team, Sky, Bundesliga, more than FPL. When playing the other three formats, I actually feel like i can achieve more and make progress in the game.
