Griezmann in the Fantasy points again as France reach World Cup final

Samuel Umtiti and Antoine Griezmann were the two players to get attacking Fantasy returns as France booked their place in the World Cup final.

There was also a second successive clean sheet for their defence, so those who invested in their back-line were heavily rewarded.

We’ve got all the goals, assists and Fantasy talking points from match 61 of this World Cup.

FRANCE 1-0 BELGIUM

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS:

  • Samuel Umtiti (£5.9m) – 12 points
  • Hugo Lloris (£5.9m) – 7 points
  • Raphael Varane (£6.1m) – 6 points
  • Lucas Hernandez (£5.0m) – 6 points
  • Benjamin Pavard (£4.5m) – 6 points
  • Antoine Griezmann (£10.1m) – 5 points

Antoine Griezmann (£10.1m) made it three matches in a row with attacking returns on Tuesday night as he assisted France’s winning goal against Belgium.

That was scored by Samuel Umtiti (£5.9m), who headed in the Atletico Madrid man’s corner in the 51st minute.

As expected, this World Cup semi-final was a very close affair, with each side testing the opposing goalkeeper on a number of occasions.

Hugo Lloris (£5.9m) emerged as the winner from the two shot-stoppers as he and his French defence kept the clean sheet, with the Spurs man earning an additional point for saves. Thibaut Courtois (£6.0m) still managed an extra point too, taking his match score to three.

The highly-owned Romelu Lukaku (£10.1m) has now gone three World Cup matches without a goal and is yet to score in the knockout phase of the competition. However, he still has one more match to add to his tally of four – the third/fourth place play-off on Saturday.

Belgium were forced to deploy Nacer Chadli (£6.9m) at right-back with Thomas Meunier (£6.0m) suspended, but the latter is expected to return to the side for Saturday’s match. Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) was positioned as the left full-back, tasked with containing the explosive Kylian Mbappe (£9.2m). Roberto Martinez is likely to revert back to a three-man central defence with Vertonghen, Vincent Kompany (£5.7m) and Toby Alderweireld (£5.8m) retaining their starting berths.

FRANCE XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Hernandez, Umtiti, Varane, Pavard; Pogba, Kante; Matuidi (Tolisso 86’), Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud (N’Zonzi 85’).

BELGIUM XI (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Vertonghen, Kompany, Alderweireld, Chadli (Chadli 91’); Dembele (Mertens 60’), Witsel; Hazard, Fellaini (Carrasco 80’), De Bruyne; Lukaku.

Thoughts on Ben Foster as an option?

Initial 3 fixtures are good for the planning an early wildcard.

    BRI, bur, CPL

Decent but Watford’s defence is pretty shaky tbh

True, will see how they look in pre season but on the positive side it could lead a lot of save points!

Bad Fantasy wise or bad player?

New team might mean a greater output maybe?

First thing that jumped out to me was the Kane and Vardy picks. Likely both will miss start of the season due to world cup?

Pretty good. Downgrade Begovic to 5.0. Cairney to a 4.5. Change TAA as I’m not sure he’ll start.
This is just my opinion, of course.

Would wait for the preseason games to kick in but my thoughts are this will be a breakthrough season for Lidelof. And at 5m he is the bargain in that Utd defense.

Did well in the world Cup. Wd love him to be a regular at 5m. Currently on Bailly.

Shaw, also at 5.0m, is a much more intriguing prospect to me with Young likely to miss the start of the season.

Not their 4th choice. He had a run of games during the tail end of the tail end of the season and with Bailly out of favor ( might change), can see him partnering Mike Smalling at the heart of that defense for many games during the season. Did well at the WC too.

Fair enough. A Man U defender at 5.0 would be brilliant but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Prefer to go for nailed players at the start, too much of a risk especially with the likes of Jones coming back late

I hope this season we see a breakthrough for Lindelöf-Bailly as a partnership, Mourinho is yet to play his two £30m+ CB signings together in a back four. It will likely be Smalling-Bailly to start the year though as Jones(although he hasn't played) & Lindelöf will 'recover' after the World Cup.

    How’s this then?

    Pope Speroni
    Coleman Cedric Daniels Tomkins Peltier
    Salah Eriksen Silva Deulofeu Gunnarsson
    Aguero Firmino Wilson

    .5 ITB.

    Cheers.

Pope's a decent punt but the defence is woefully weak.

Unlikely, but possible. Pope has the advantage of age. I could always go Pickford if that seems to be the case later on.

Eriksen is an interesting one early on. Without most of the spurs first 11 due to WC he could either flourish and be the main man or struggle without his supporting cast. I don't mind the cheap option in defence. I guess if Mendy does become the new Alonso as predicted by so many you have the 0.5 to do Coleman -> Mendy as well.

He has no class players with him at Denmark, and flourishes. Also, he really has become more direct recently, scoring more goals.

I only have.5 left as there was really nobody at 5.0 I thought was worth the extra dosh.

He's a good player from what I've seen and I'd imagine he could do well at that price range. Issue is those early fixtures, with so many of "big" guys early on he's going to struggle to get going and have a stuttering start. May be worth holding off till those fixtures pass.

So after a massive reshuffle draft (due to my No Salah stance finally crumbling)
I have a team I'm happy with all over the park and seems balanced.

Currently on Mkhi in the middle though, but I've found myself with 0.5ITB
Would you bring in Ramsay for the extra bucks?
