Introduction to the article type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Gregor has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Gregor’s RMT

Gunn/McCarthy, Fabianski
VVD, Bailly, Mendy, Cook, Wan-Bissaka
Salah, Silva, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Ward
Firmino, Zaha, Mitrovic.

Goalkeepers
Two great value looking goalkeepers for £9m with perfect home and away rotation and good home fixtures to start the season. If there’s doubt over the Southampton number one though I may get Foster and bring Cedric in as my £4.5m defender.

Defenders
I’ve gone with van Dijk over Robertson due to slight concern around Robertson missing the odd game around Champions League ties, if Liverpool get a tough group.

Bailly seems assured to start the season and no reason to think he won’t then keep his place. £5.5m to cover United’s defence looks too good to miss.

Mendy looks underpriced due to previous injury problems, cheaper than Walker and should be good for assists.

What I like about Cook is that he’s very bench-able as you don’t expect much from a Bournemouth defender, but he has the potential to produce when called upon and also offers perfect home and away rotation with Wan-Bissaka, who looks a no brainer for bench fodder at £4m – nice fixtures too.

Midfielders
Salah, the obvious GW1 captain, and I (hope) expect Liverpool to make a strong start before the fixtures stiffen.

Mahrez is nice and rested and Silva looks a great price for a guy seemingly nailed on before the family problems, and City’s fixtures from GW’s 2-7 make a City triple up seem entirely sensible.

Mkhitaryan could be an absolute steal at £7m. Tough opening fixtures but just can’t ignore a player of this quality at that price though.

Cardiff’s Danny Ward as £4.5m bench fodder, subject to change; he has a goal threat which is unusual at this price point, and easy to bench as you would expect Cardiff to struggle.

Forwards
Bobby Firmino up top to further tap into the Liverpool attack, with strong early fixtures and a nice price. I’d be surprised if he’s not fit to start GW1.

Zaha, the Palace talisman with pre-season form and strong early fixtures. I do worry he might move though so also got my eye on Tosun for this slot.

Mitrovic just edges out Austin for my third striker slot for now due to surety of starts, funded by trading Sane for Mahrez. Have always liked Mitrovic and should continue to thrive at Fulham now he’s the main man.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

        Bad advice.

Pick one, don't plan transfers on defence.

Sokratis for me due to potential rotating full backs at Arsenal

Foster not good enough to be an only keeper, I'd prefer 2x 4.5

Will Bellerin play all the time? I heard rumours of full back rotation but I don't know.

Love the midfield trio of Mahrez, Salah and Eriksen! 🙂

I think it's plenty solid tbh.

As long as you are happy with Neves starting, GTG.

Watch Luiz, he could be better value than Azpi if he plays

I did think of that, but with them now looking like playing 4 at the back, I’m not sure Luiz will be a regular at CB and I think Az will get forward more and get the assists

Strong. I love Azp but you could potentially save .05/1m with Rudiger/Luiz. Good goal threat there, Rud more nailed.

If Pedro fires in the charity shield I don't think you can resist not swapping out Jota.

Should I maybe switch Peltier, Stephens and Zaha -> 4.5 def, Maddison and 4.5 forward or maybe switch Stephens, Mahrez and Zaha -> Maddison, Eriksen and 4.5 forward

As good as that midfield looks, I'd put a big hitter in your forward line to give you more freedom to transfer in who's doing well once the season starts.

It's easy to start the season looking for the best team, but flexibility for transfers is also important at the beginning of the season.

There's the toughie. Kun's not guaranteed a start and Auba has poor fixtures and may be playing on the wing.

Tbh I'm considering Firmino (but then yesterday it was Kun! :D)

    RMT.

Gambling on Sanchez for the first few. Enables me to transfer in Kevin in 1 move when he returns.

*Tempted to also gamble Lacazette/Morata(0.5itb) for the first gameweek if Bobby looks a doubt, even though the former isn't 100% nailed.

    I'll change Hudson-Odoi to a sensible fodder soon 😉

    Ederson
    VVD | Luiz | Cedric
    Salah(c) | Sanchez | Rich | Hughes
    Aguero | Firmino* | King

Forwards good, I've gone for Auba instead but not an easy choice.

If you want to avoid those defenders Brighton or Huddersfield are options. Zabaleta is looking likely to start for WH so could be an option as could Diop.

Rest of your starters are good but waiting for CS this weekend to judge Mendy and Pedro

      Forwards set

Defence there may be better options than Bertrand and cook, the rest are fine, I'd stick with Bailly until after CS.

Mids good, pedro and bsilva could be gambles that could pay off but I would be inclined to only risk on one of them as I take it you want to play 3-4-3?

      1. FAITHNOMORENO
        • 13 Years

betrand has good fixtures and is on some set-pieces plus nailed.cook and awb rotate well if needed.
will monitor bailly situation and decide whether to switch to luiz after CS.
you think bilva and pedro are too much of a gamble? I tend to agree as I usually play safe at the beginning, especially this season.
who would you rather have, bilva or pedro (fabregas?) ?

        1. UnluckyXI
          • 8 Years

I think bsilva is the bigger risk long term but think he can score better than Pedro as he is having a great pre season and dilva has to fade at some point.

Can monitor in the CS this weekend regardless, either way good luck!

Undecided on 4-4-2 or 3-4-3 so help appreciated

Please rate this 4-4-2 team. Offers flexibility to move Mané to KDB and Silva to performing 8m (Pogba/Mkhitaryian for example)

Other option is 3-4-3 with Kamara to King*, Mané to Pedro*,Bailly to Mendy* and Ederson to Alisson* be better

    Ederson*
    Robertson Bailly* David Luiz Cedric
    Salah DSilva Mané* Richarlison
    Aguero Arnie

    Hamer Cairney Wan-Bissaka Kamara*

I'm also undecided between 442 and 343, depends on whether Zaha moves for me. Nice team, I'd downgrade dilva and upgrade cedric, saints look awful defensively and he hasn't played a second of pre season.

    Here goes...

    Patricio
    Robbo Mendy Coleman Moses
    Salah Sane Fabregas Jota
    Arnie Aguero

    Fabianski Cairney Wan Bissaka Kamara

    0,5itb

Will keep an eye on Charity Shield, was originally Pedro, but he seems to get rotated with Moses. If Sane's a doubt, can always get Mahrez, and use extra 0.5 elswhere. Would like to keep 0.5 itb to upgrade Fabregas/Jota to Mhiki or Richarlison depending on how they do.

Oh, and Aguero will be Auba from GW3 onwards,

How Foden are you on Sturridge playing?
Other than that, looks pretty decent to me

He's had a decent pre season and Firmino came back late from the WC. Can see him starting for the first couple and £6m is a bargain...

Strike force is all one price. If one of the big hitters makes it strong, you're going to have a tough time accommodating them

    (5.0) - Button
    Robertson - (4.5) - Peltier - Azpilicueta - Tomkins
    Salah - Sessegnon - Jota - Sané - (Milivojevic/Jahanbakhsh/Pedro)
    Aubameyang - Quaner - Arnautovic
    (1.0 itb)

Need some opinions on which players to consider for the spots marked with brackets. Thoughs? 🙂

    Ederson
    Robertson Mendy Tompkins
    Salah Mané Richarlison Pedro
    King Arnautovic Tosun

    4.0 Cairney W-B Peltier

5m in the bank - why?

    i) WC stars to return
    ii) Premiums to reveal themselves
    iii) Arsenals first two fixtures
iv) Man City midfield mine field
    v) think the above team can hold the forth early doors
