No surprises as Spurs host Liverpool in Gameweek 5 opener

There were no big surprises as the team sheets came out for Gameweek 5’s opening fixture between Tottenham and Liverpool.

Despite fears that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp would rotate some of his big hitting Fantasy Premier League options, Jordan Henderson (£5.3m) was the only one to drop out.

Naby Keita (£7.4m) comes in while Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Sadio Mané (£10.0m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.4m) all kept their places in the starting XI.

As expected, Michel Vorm (£4.9m) comes in for the injured Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) while Harry Winks (£5.5m) gets the nod with Dele Alli (£9.1m) out with a knock.

There is unlikely to be much captain interest in this fixture with both Salah and Harry Kane (£12.5m) backed by under 6% in our most recent poll for the armband.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI (4-2-3-1): Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Winks, Eriksen, Lucas, Kane.

      Apparently the logic goes, that they are better than last season cos they have been finding ways to win despite being atrocious for most of the time in most of their matches so far. I'm anything but a fan but at least last season they were exciting to watch; the 18/19 vintage has been anything but.

        Except they're not atrocious at all are they. Have you not observed the 1000% improvement in the quality of their defence. If you think they're worse you're deluding yourself imo

          Notice, how I didn't allude to them being worse; my vantage point is that of a "neutral" (i.e. I don't care if they win or lose), and where I'm watching from, I could say I could have given all their outings a wide berth and not miss a thing thus far. They have conceded awfully lots of good chances as well, something to consider before giving percentage values to their improvement vis-a-vis last season (when they weren't bad at all defensively).

          It might change.

      Honestly, apart from a 20 min spell I think Liverpool have been by far the better team.

      Reading posts on here over the past couple of weeks and “analysis”, a term I use lightly, you’d think Liverpool were some kind of also-rans and were second rate compared to the top 6.

          You’ve been here 3 years and only just noticed?! I would say a lot of casuals but there’s a healthy dose of long time players who are simply rubbish hence some of the comments about whoever scores the most points in one game is then “essential” followed by a meltdown of a player who did well last week, brought in, then gets a blank and an immediate exit. I’m almost hoping Alonso (as an owner) blanks today just for the entertainment on here.

          When 3pm teams are announced is usually good entertainment.
