Meet the Manager #1: Nick aka Triggerlips

Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the very first episode of Meet the Manager, where we interview Fantasy managers with a superb track record over their career.

Over the season we’ll find out from them what it takes to get a top finish in the game, explore their key strategies for success and also gain some valuable tips on tackling the current campaign.

To kick off the series I was joined earlier today by Nick, who is better known within the Fantasy Football Scout community as Triggerlips.

Over his 11-year career, he has finished in the top 1,000 an impressive four times, including 2012/13’s finish of 35th. Indeed across his last nine campaigns, he has only finished outside the top 50,000 twice.

Paying close attention to team structure and balanced distribution of funds is among the nuggets of advice that New Zealand-based Nick serves up.

He also reveals the importance of accumulating wealth early on and making sure the vast array of Fantasy advice on social media is treated with caution.

And while he is taking a patient approach with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season he is “not liking the look of (Mohamed) Salah one little bit”.

The chat with Nick is available to view on YouTube here and in the embedded video below:

Just do Mikhi to Fraser. Wolves have Man U next so no need to take a hit yet.

Ive been in the no Salah camp all season, in fact not owned him for about a year, oops 😆 but can't understand the worry bout him this week, Liv will be full strength and Stoke City are the only team in 2018 to stop him from scoring in a league fixture at Anfield. He'd be nearer a triple cap chip for me than a selling

I wouldnt triple captain him. He's been double marked this season which leaves loads of space for Mane, Firmino and even Robertson to bomb forward. He's not playing bad, maybe just a little bit more selfish to prove last year's points wasn't a fluke? If anything, i'll captain Mane.

Ryan does have great fixtures after this week but you have a transfer to burn so why not, bit sideways for me though.

I agree it is a little sideways but I am struggling to think of another move. The fixture swing does concern me but I don't want to waste a transfer.

Classic case of the FFS herd mentality gone wrong this weekend. Must get Haz! Just scored 20 points. People looking for excuses like packs of Lemsip and thrown water bottles to drop Salah ahead of Southampton at home.

Don’t be blinded by last weeks top scorers, look for next weeks.

The way I see it is that I have Kun, who I’m comfortable captaining, I’ll never put the armband on Sterling, and his 3% ownership isn’t going to hurt me much as a non owner. Salah on the other hand is definitely on for a haul (probably this weekend) and his ownership will cause damage to my OR, and I’m very comfortable with captaining him.

Totally agree. All about forward planning, too many panic and get the big scorers from the previous week in which doesn’t always pay off. I have Hazard already but if I didn’t I wouldn’t be making hits I taking Salah out to get him in.

Hi guys, I'm getting some serious headache now. If you can help with any advice that can be amazing.

    Begovic | Hammer
    Alonso | Mendy | Robertson | Shaw | Pereira
    Fraser | Hazard | Mane | Mkhi | Maddi
    Aguero | Wilson | Ings

    ITB 0.7
    FT 0

Thinking to go on for - 4. But who?

    What do you think?
Mkhi and Ings out, for Rich and Zaha/Mitrovic. But I need to downgrade 1 deff.

    1. conorbon
      • 10 Years

Which deff to downgrade? Shaw, Robbo or Pereira? I think robbo after gw6, but again I am afraid of Shaw - Young rotation, Lei has a good fixtures than maybe should keep Pereira.

do you expect Mendy to play? noone knows and you might not get headache if he doesn´t-) Shaw rotation risk, played yesterday probably means Young plays vs Wolwes?

Actually, If Mendy doesn't play, and if Shaw get rotate with Young plus Robbo's bad fixtures it will be a reason for headache 😀 but I got the point, thanks

Looking for a Walcott replacement this week and it’s between these two -

    Richarlison vs Maddison
(Not much data to separate the two)

Everton will attack and Richarlison will be their man. He scored 3 goals from 4 shots which is not a sustainable rate. Fixtures a bit tough on the horizon but I have no doubt they will score goals and he should be involved.

Maddison has pretty decent numbers in the last two games and the fixtures can’t get better. They have looked decent going forward and he’s on set pieces which is a bonus.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers! 🙂

PS - There should be a hot topic for budget mids this week as a lot of people are looking to replace Wally/Mkhi.

I prefer Richarlison. This is one of those decisions where the stats are probably a bit less relevant. The whole team is geared towards getting the best out of Richarlison

      1. Karan14
        • 8 Years

Kind of agree with that. Everton have also matched Leicester for attacking potential last two weeks and that’s without most of their 1st team. I do expect them to improve but same could be said for Leicester as their fixtures are a cakewalk right now.

    Hi All.

Is it worth taking Mendy out for 1 week for Robertson? If I hold Mendy and he doesn’t play then I will have to play Bennett against Utd. Other defenders are Alonso, AWB and Bednarek.

Bilva to Pogba? Bilva played 90min last night.. So really unsure if I should do this.

    DDG
    Mendy-Alonso-TAA
    Salah-Moura-Bilva-Pedro
    Wilson-Zaha-Aguero

    Hamer-AWB-Cook-HudsonOdoi

    0.7itb.

Is that move any good? Also considering pressing the WC button if Mendy is injured so I can change my whole midfield(taking him out allows me to make some good changes in my midfield)...

Good option, a better one than Moura imo. For me, his price is a little awkward and he isn't quite as good as Dilva, Richarlison or Fraser, so I'd struggle to fit him in

the way Everton defends it could be that day when he score a hatty, but Arsenal haven´t been that good attackingwise, nonetheless they have scored decent amount of goals so far. This game looks like a classic 5-2 Arsenal win

    4. Pinturicchio10
        5 years, 7 months ago

I'll probably take a punt on Aubameyang to be honest. Considering the history between the two, and Everton looking particularly ropey, it doesn't feel like too big a punt. Pick whoever you want, screw everyone else. Good luck.

Plus other pods are doing this feature. WGTA,3Amigos,to name two. I don’t see their guests as being a reflection of their brand image. Just a way of the certain Pod or site as expanding their horizons and getting the FPL community to get some insight into some of the personalities in the game.
Why can’t FFS do the same. They are trying very hard to respond to the feedback that we all gave.

Brand image is less important in the online world. Brand doesn't deliver much value vs functionality. The function of this site is to deliver FPL insights and that is what the interview provided. Not a bad decision to interview him at all.

With age comes wisdom, Mr Wizard. He talked about patience which is what a lot of younger people don't have nowadays, unfortunately. Yes, it's a reflection of the FFS brand image but Triggerlips is an FPL veteran and FFS community member like the rest of us so in my eyes he's the same as us. Age doesn't matter, results do - and he has them.

That is an extremely shallow comment.
          Brand image my hole!
You sound like a chairman who spends a fortune to get a trendy young manager in but he flops, then have to go to the tried and tested experienced ones.
You have some neck to be coming on this website giving out about a fella who is always keen to share tips and advice for years.
Meanwhile you are not even using this site for a year and are going on about 'brand image'
For me the site should be about substance first and style second.
Decent content, decent advice not all this bells and whistles stuff with little underneath.
Do you prefer people using menaingless phrases like underlying stats, essential, coverage etc. Lots of buzzwords but little clue why they are saying them other then to fit in?

Anyway I am off to buy some own brand milk.

It's down to the % of total ownership. For example if a player with 2% ownership drops to 1.5% that's clearly a massive difference vs 52% down to 46%. Wildcards also as those do not count, or at least only a certain amount do, can't quite remember.

Captaincy options split this weekend, going to be fun. Between Aguero, Salah, Hazard it's likely to see a larger split in choices than any week so far this season. Chances are that at least one of them will blank or underperform the other(s). Having a tough time choosing myself between Salah and Kun!

Was City´s game yesterday a one-off? Jesus is that bad? To me, watching most of their games, the loss of KDB is affects their play in that he is the one providing the passes to get them into clear cut chances, yes they play similarly to what they usually does but his killer passes is missing. Wonder what it would be when up against better opposition? He also runs a lot which covers a reasonably large area of ground, both Gundogan and Fernandinho nowhere near in that department, both Silvas are very good footballers but does lack pace and that midfield was effectively runned over by a decent Lyon, which by no means are anywhere near PSG in terms of quality.

Jesus has never especially impressed me, at least not in comparison to Aguero.

A number of City players had a bad game, can't ignore that.

No Pep on the touchline berating them; I'm sure that was the biggest thing to be honest.

Wouldn't read too much into it otherwise. Cardiff is a very different opponent.
