Sunday afternoon’s early kick-off yielded mostly frustration for Fantasy Premier League managers.

Eden Hazard and his Chelsea team-mates drew a blank against West Ham while Marko Arnautovic didn’t even play.

Furthermore, there was another big Lukasz Fabianski haul that looks set to be consigned to many of his owners’ benches.

We’ve gone over the key talking points in this latest Scout Notes article.

West Ham 0-0 Chelsea

Goals: None

Assists: None

Eden Hazard (ÂŁ10.9m) blanked for the first time this season as Chelsea were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by London rivals West Ham. That was a huge disappointment to the 619,636 Fantasy managers who signed him for Gameweek 6 on the back of last week’s hat-trick. In the end, he was the only one out of Mohamed Salah (ÂŁ13.0m) and Sergio Aguero (ÂŁ11.4m) not to return points. Up next, league leaders Liverpool visit Stamford Bridge.

At the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Hazard registered half as many shots compared to his three-goal performance against Cardiff, perhaps the biggest reason for his underperformance Fantasy-wise. Not surprisingly, West Ham proved a much sterner test than the newly-promoted side from south Wales. But Hazard actually enjoyed double the number of penalty area touches recorded in Gameweek 5 during his outing at West Ham. Furthermore, he managed a similar number of successful passes in the final third too (one more than last week). At the very least, this first blank of the campaign for Hazard confirms that he definitely overperformed in that 4-1 win over Cardiff.

Maurizio Sarri believes that Hazard did not have as much of an impact as possible at West Ham because of his positioning. The former Napoli manager claimed a week ago that Hazard needed to spend less time dropping deep. Asked if he saw any improvement in that area on Sunday he said:

“Not in the first half, but better in the second. Today it was difficult to play today. They were cutting every pass to Giroud. It was really very difficult for the strikers and wingers.” – Maurizio Sarri

Despite not finding the net, Chelsea dominated both possession and the shot count at West Ham. They spent 71% of the match with the ball and nearly tripled the Hammers’ number of efforts on goal (17 to 6). However, it might be less of a surprise to see Chelsea fail to make all of that count to those who have watched all their matches so far this season. Local press reported on Thursday night that Chelsea were not as clinical as they could have been in their Europa League win over PAOK, not for the first time in 2018/19. In fact, they even suggested the time might come when Chelsea dominated a match and failed to win it. That is exactly what happened at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The same reporters also warned that Chelsea’s performance levels against West Ham might have been put at risk by so many first-team players starting in Greece. Asked if his team selection against PAOK and the introduction of the Europa League into the schedule affected Chelsea’s play, Sarri did not rule it out.

“I don’t know. I don’t think so. In this period I don’t think so. After seven matches it is difficult in March and April, not now. I don’t know why in England with the match away you can’t ask for a Monday night. In Italy it is normal.” – Maurizio Sarri

The Chelsea centre-forward position remains an unsettled position after Sunday’s draw. Olivier Giroud (ÂŁ7.8m) started against West Ham and was joint-top in the match for shots on goal, but was withdrawn just after the hour-mark. Álvaro Morata (ÂŁ9.0m) nearly made an instant impact in replacing the Frenchman but had a good chance well-saved by Lukasz Fabianski (ÂŁ4.5m).

Antonio RĂŒdiger (ÂŁ6.0m) was forced off through injury in the second half. Gary Cahill (ÂŁ5.2m) replaced him for the final 21 minutes and could start Gameweek 7 if the German does not win the race to be fit. Sarri is not too concerned about his knock though.

“I want to speak with the doctor. I think nothing serious. Maybe three or four days.” – Maurizio Sarri

Pedro (ÂŁ6.7m) missed out on Gameweek 6 after injuring his shoulder in the Europa League. However, Sarri provided a positive update on the player in his post-match press conference.

“He is very important for us as he is the best player with movement without the ball. We are hoping to have him back by the end of the week.” – Maurizio Sarri

Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic (ÂŁ6.0m) recovered from the dead leg which forced him off against Cardiff, Cesc Fabregas (ÂŁ6.3m) returned to the bench and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (ÂŁ5.3m) missed out on the matchday squad entirely.

Chelsea now prepare for a League Cup match with Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night. Sarri is currently uncertain of his team selection though.

“They have had one more day of rest. I want to see the picture of the situation tomorrow morning in the training session. I don’t know, maybe I will change 11, maybe 5.” – Maurizio Sarri

The leading Fantasy story from a West Ham perspective was that Marko Arnautovic (ÂŁ7.0m) was not passed fit. He was withdrawn with an injury in Gameweek 5 and could not recover in time for Gameweek 6. Manager Manuel Pellegrini did not give any timeframe on Arnautovic’s return, nor on Javier Hernandez (ÂŁ6.3m) who missed out through illness. Michail Antonio (ÂŁ6.8m) led the line for 65 minutes before Lucas PĂ©rez (ÂŁ6.3m) replaced him.

“Marko tried in the last minute to see if he was 100 per cent fit. He just worked yesterday a little bit on set pieces and he felt uncomfortable, and this morning he couldn’t run. So he tried, but he could not make it.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Fabianski proved to be the highest-scorer in Sunday’s match, continuing the trend of saving his best performances for the tough matches. A first clean sheet of the campaign, six saves and three bonus made for an 11-point haul. However, as is often the case, very few Fantasy managers are expected to benefit as he was benched by 564,795 for Gameweek 6.

West Ham had the best chance to win the game but could not take it. Substitute Robert Snodgrass (ÂŁ5.4m) found an unmarked Andriy Yarmolenko (ÂŁ6.8m), who scored twice last week, at the far post, but the Ukrainian headed wide.

West Ham XI (4-3-3): Fabianski; Masuaku, Diop, Balbuena, Zabaleta; Rice, Obiang, Noble (SĂĄnchez 85′); Anderson (Snodgrass 75′), Antonio (PĂ©rez 65′), Yarmolenko.

Chelsea XI (4-3-3): Kepa; Alonso, RĂŒdiger (Cahill 69′), David Luiz, Azpilicueta; Kovacic (Barkley 79′), KantĂ©, Jorginho; Hazard, Giroud (Morata 65′), Willian.

Personally I'm not seeing the Spurs appeal at the moment so I wouldn't have Kane and distribute the money around defence and midfield.

I get where your coming from but with Spurs fixtures this could be the turn around they need. Kane vs Huddersfield and Cardiff back to back is too tempting. Hoping to get on Kane early like i did with Hazard.. and not miss the Kane train like many have done with Haz and now trying to squeeze him in.

I get it, being ahead of the curve, I did same with Haz 3 weeks ago. Kane always can get something even when he's not playing well, and Huds/Cardiff are both awful so I see your point...

I got to the Kane party unfashionably early, it's been quiet up until now, but I think it's about to get good.
Even Aguero can score against Hudds/Cardiff.

What do you mean by 'EVEN' Aguero can score against Huddersfield/Cardiff? He's been one of the best strikers in the Prem in the last decade or so. Show some respect.

Just pointing out that the 'essential' Aguero has only actually scored against Huddersfield, and Cardiff this season...and failed to score against anyone else, when you would expect more (Fulham, Newcastle) yet he remains essential, whereas Kane is overpriced, and under performing.

Do you get points just for scoring goals?

                  4 goals, 4 assists, 43 points in 6 games.

Best PPM, top scoring forward with an ownership of close to 52%.

Now take a backseat and stop hating.

Haha well I'm sure Aguero isn't spending his Monday morning reading FFS, but if he is he can be assured I meant no disrespect!

I actually own Aguero, and Kane, and believe my point is still valid, I'm sure the 52% of people who own Aguero would have expected him to score against Fulham, Wolves and Newcastle.

So you're telling me Harry Kane who was priced 1.5m more than Aguero and has played more minutes than him and yet scored 12 points less than Aguero has been a better FPL player to own so far?

                      🙂 🙂 🙂

No, I never said he has been a better player, if you look at my original comment I said the Kane party has been quiet so far.

My point is that seemingly everyone on this site has Aguero down as 'essential', whereas the same amount of people have Kane down as an overpriced failure.
All I'm saying, in a half joking, half serious way, was that Aguero has 'only' scored against Huddersfield and Cardiff (Kanes next two fixtures) so if the essential Aguero can score against those teams, surely Kane has a good chance.

I genuinely think people who own Aguero would have expected more goals considering he has started every game, and the opposition he's played.

You're completely ignoring the fact that he picked up a knock against Fulham and has been allowed just 50-60 minutes in those fickle fixtures. Very unlucky but still a return of 7 odd points is not exactly a disaster.

Having said that, I'm with you in the Harry Kane boat. Booted Auba before his price drop and got Kane in. All set to be my captain for the next 2 games.

I'm not ignoring it, we all know Aguero is injury prone, and Pep loves a random rotation...again something else to factor in when considering the essential-ness of Aguero. The likes of Kane and Lukaku will never be rested/rotated.
His 'assist' for the Walker goal against Newcastle was majorly jammy. I could have made that assist 🙂

I'm not doubting what he has done over the years for City, or how good a player he is. But my point, again which is half in jest, I still think is valid, owners would be expecting more goals in the games mentioned. He exploded against Huddersfield, which is something he is capable of doing with a handful of others (Hazard/Salah) but that is masking an otherwise unspectacular start to the season.

I'll also be captaining Kane for the next two, so good luck to us both!

So after a bad GW where I doubled my OR to 25k I made a late night knee jerk transfer flurry for a -8.

        Mendy > Trippier
        Schlupp > Doherty
        Wilson > Mitrovic

Suffering a bit of buyer's regret this morning.

          Mendy - injury/uncertainty

          Schlupp - waste of space

Doubling to 25k is like 5 points. That -8 dumps you down into the 40k region.

Learn from it, in the early weeks OR is hugely variable.
The moves could still pay off but it's a high risk approach.

Yes in my opinion. I have Walcott too and won't make the change. If you don't have any other fix to make why not but a ft is always good to have

Trip has lot of potential return but not really nailed. You must have decent bench. Please help me above.

Is Mane to Richarlison worth doing? I already have Salah and keen to reduce my exposure to Liverpool players (I have no Hazard btw)

                  OUT:
                  Salah - Chelsea (A), Man City (H)
                  Ings - Wolves (A), Chelsea (H)

                  IN:
                  Richarlison - Fulham (H), Leicester (A)
                  Kane - Huddersfield (A), Cardiff (H)

                  .

How does this look for a 2 week move? Feeling really confident about these changes being a positive gain. Would cost a -4 though.

Maybe, but not too bothered on him yet. Apparently should be back by end of the week, which given EFL midweek means should play.

                    Why are people selling Mendy?

Presumably we all bought him at 6m. So selling price is 6.2 and his current price is 6.4.

Surely when you need to buy him back you'll be making a loss, i.e. buying him back at 6.4 or 6.3.

Unless he's out of months, I just don't see how it makes sense.

Once he's back, people will be spending 6.4, 6.3 on him. or, be priced out of getting him.

Bought him for 6.0 so sold him for 6.2 last week .. expect to be max 6.3 when I buy him back .. have awb A’s bench but it’s trippiers potential over next few weeks that tips it over for me .. that 4 could have easily been 10 last weekend .. hopeful of getting points next few ..
