Our Differentials have a distinctly retro feel this week. All three are on the wrong side of thirty but with the added motivation of a new contract to play for or a new manager to impress, each is currently going through a purple patch of form that’s brought them to the attention of the Scout Selection Committee..

We’re going through a bit of a revival of our own recently and, after last week’s Differentials almost outscored my entire FPL team, we’re hoping for another bumper return from this week’s picks.

Tomas Rosicky

Arsenal’s Renaissance man Tomas Rosicky epitomises the recent upturn in his club’s fortunes; after spending 20 months out with a tendon problem, it was feared that Rosicky would never return to the same level of old but the Czech schemer has been back to his glorious best in recent games. Despite managing just 15 starts all season, he has begun the last seven in a row and played a pivotal role in victories over Spurs, Liverpool and Milan. With another crucial game against Newcastle up next, Arsene Wenger will be looking to the 31 year old to produce another strong performance to ensure the Gunners’ momentum remains unchecked.

With Arsenal seemingly scoring at will at the moment, choosing another attacking option in addition to their imperial front man looks like a smart ploy. This week’s Scout Pick Theo Walcott is probably the best option available but priced at 8.9, the fleet footed winger will be beyond the budget of most Fantasy managers. The other main contender, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, offers plenty of potential but has the likes of Gervinho and Yossi Benayoun as rivals for the left flank role. Rosicky’s place looks a lot more secure, on the other hand and, with two goals in his last three games, still offers a decent attacking threat for the budget price of just 5.7.

Bobby Zamora

QPR are starting to look a much improved side of late there are plenty of decent differential options in their ranks; Adel Taraabt tops the ICT index for midfielders in recent weeks, Akos Buszaky looked a constant threat against Everton last time out and Djibril Cisse also returns from suspension this weekend. Despite the strong alternatives, we’ve opted for new January signing Bobby Zamora, after another excellent performance last weekend saw the ex-Fulham star score and pick up the maximum bonus to add to his already impressive record in recent weeks.

Last week’s haul takes his recent tally to 4 goals, 3 assists and 8 bonus points in his last seven games for an average of 6.7 points per game – to add a little perspective, that’s more than Emmanuel Adebayor, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero have managed over the same period, making a mockery of his 6.7 valuation in the FPL game. Granted, 17 of those points came against Newcastle while playing for Fulham, but QPR look more than capable of finding the net and his move across London hasn’t slowed him down. Zamora’s strong hold up play is the perfect foil for a side bursting with pace and creativity in Cisse, Shaun Wright Philips and Taraabt, and he looks good to provide a steady stream of goals and assists over the coming weeks, despite the relatively difficult fixtures coming up.

Carlos Cuellar

With Vincent Kompany expected to miss Man City’s next couple of games, the masses will no doubt be looking at Liverpool’s double gameweek when considering a possible replacement. Before diving in, however, it would be well worth checking out Aston Villa’s defensive options. With Richard Dunne out of action for at least another month, Carlos Cuellar looks set for a continued run of starts at centre half alongside James Collins and, while both defenders have picked up bonus points in their last two games, the Spaniard has scooped the maximum in both matches as well as an assist, and looks by far the better value of the two, at 4.9 in the FPL game.

From a defensive perspective, Villa’s next two fixtures look as good as they come; in stark contrast to their free scoring home form, Fulham have managed just eight goals on their travels all season, and Bolton have only found the net once in their last five. All the signs points to a profitable period for Villa defenders and with ownership of just 0.1%, Cuellar would be a great differential.

          Hmm tough one.

You'd preferably want ManU coverage but taking Silva out with a 4-pt hit is a risky move.

I'd probably consider leaving the FT and making two swaps next week to get the ManU coverage in - possibly downgrade Silva to likes of Yaya.

That's the tough part - don't think I've got the nerve to captain him. Just seems that DGW means unless he's a fool (not unlike him I guess) then the least he should get is 4pts for playing at least 60 mins of both.

Then again that means I'm on 0 and Ba could well score a goal - tough decision!

Just been surfing rival relegation rivals sites. Most interesting.

Wigan fans think they're going to do another great escape and stay up, and beat Norwich this weekend.

Wolves fans believe they're gone and are fearing the worst. Genuinely seem to accept they're not good enough at this level and team not improved since last year.

Blackburn fans can't decide if they're staying or going, beating Wolves tomorrow, losing or drawing, although they are convinced they won't keep a clean sheet.

QPR fans also not sure what will happen but are of the belief that if we lost to Bolton tomorrow we are down. (I agree with that).

Blton fans think they'e going, Coyle is an idiot and fear Cisse, Zamora and Taarabt and going to rip them apart tomorrow. Oh, and they hate Zat Knight and have been following Muamba's tweets which apparently suggest he is unhappy with Coyle picking favourites.

Wolves fans did it after Newcastle game and amazingly they had themselves overtaking Villa.

Not sure they still think that now after the Fulham game.

Villa will be sucked in, but it will be a case of three teams being worse. It's so hard to tell, pretty much all of the bottom 5 play each other at some stage. Could be an even more exciting/traumatic scrap than last season.

Wigan fan myself. Never say we're down until it's impossible for us to stay up. Got to keep fighting but there's no doubt changes need to be made at the club.

Money is the driving force of football and a club like Wigan only survives though by scouting players, training them until they're noticed and then sold for more.

Good luck to you and for us against Norwich on Sunday 😀

Double gameweeks...So exciting, but also prone to deflate. Especially when Everton are involved...I put my money of a bit of Skrtel and Suarez with a side order of Enrique...Here's hoping...

Don't bench Dempsey. Also, 2 of Surman, Rosicky and Miyaichi is ok, but 3 is one too many. Assuming you have nothing left in the bank you may need to downgrade elsewhere...

Tricky. You don't really want to lose any of your front 3. Also nothing much in the 6-8m bracket for midfielders. I'd be inclined to stay as you are, but perhaps look to downgrade Suarez next week so you can get the likes of Bale, Silva, Mata, Walcott etc in for one of your cheapies in midfield soon.

Rosicky -> Drenthe for a DGW gamble could be a worthwile gamble?

    evening gents

after dropping the dissapointing richards for skrtel ealier in the week im left with the second of my freebies....and needless to say a very difficult week to work out the best way to go, feel aguero is the one to go as have always planned that after city's good run

holt, odem and suarez are the options and finding it easier to take the two transfers to the next week at this rate 😛

I remember the last DGW - Spurs' defence was doing well, but I think I went for Bale as (c). If I had picked BAE, I would have been rolling around in woods. (Don't know what that means either...)

jus got suarez in 😉 have to say ive succumb over the week to getting him in, was dead against all week and 0.1 off nani so sorta forced that way, a def capt its certainly an option and like you said two bites at it as well and might i add the satisfaction of actually doing it......a sort of rolling around in the woods sorta moment for sure 😆

Partly cause I got him at 3.9m but also cause he's 100% nailed on and his fixtures get better further down the line. I also don't want to waste transfers on cheap defenders. Finally, he rotates well with the MUN and LIV boys.

im pretty much the same except mcauley and simpson instead of caulker and shotton, and bale rather than walcott in midfield with 0.5m to spare, which suggests I probably have about 1m more money spare than yourself. Solid team cannot really see any issues- walcott is doubtful though isnt he?

I think he's a slight doubt but Wenger said he should be ok. Fancy him to do well this week if he plays. I think we're unlikely to start any of Caulker, Shotton, Simpson or Mcauley, but yeah your 2 probably edge it. Bale definitely better too - he's coming in during GW31 for me.

Yeah, Kompany will get 0 points, and Skrtel should get at least 4 - that cancels out your hit already, a clean sheet in either game and you're ahead, seems like a no brainer 😉

guys please advise on if you would make any changes to this team. Any moves would be for a -4pt hit. I have no utd coverage but duno if its worth a hit to bring one in this gek, i.e. cheap def > evans or silva > nani.
