Manager Melee: Matchday 3

No time to bask in the glory of victory or wallow in the dejection of defeat for our competitors; the second round has already been completed, results are in, and just like the Jurgen Klopp lineup there were plenty of twists.

To view all the head to head results and group standing yourself, see them here.

Point Scoring System

Each match consists of eight H2H matches, all worth one match point to the victor’s team except for the captain’s H2H, which is worth two match points. At the end of the match, the team with the most match points are the winners and will be awarded three league points. Any match ending with both teams having 4.5 match points is a draw, and both teams will be awarded a single league point. League points will determine each team’s position within their group, with match point difference providing the deciding factor where league points are the same.

Scores

Group Anichebe

Fresh from comprehensive victories in the first round, American Dycho and Claudio with a Chance of Modballs both triumphed again; it looks like they’ll be finding Nuno’s head on a stick after American Dycho completed a 6-3 victory and nobody puts modballs in a corner as Dirty Zidancing were seen off by the same scoreline.

Next matchday sees Finding Nuno looking to find some form versus fellow strugglers Dirty Zidancing and all eyes will be on what’s likely to be an animated top of the table match up between Claudio with a Chance of Modballls and American Dycho.

Group Brunt

Something had to give in the top of the table clash between RoboKlopp and the Big Bang Thierry, ultimately the universe expanded as RoboKlopp couldn’t stay out of trouble, the Big Bang Thierry prevailing 6-3. Gary Neville and management don’t seem to go together: Neville Wears Prada slumped to their second straight defeat losing to Guardiolas of the Galaxy whose 5-4 victory means they are no longer grooted (sorry!) to the bottom of the table.

It doesn’t get any easier for Neville Wears Prada as they meet the undefeated the Big Bang Thierry in matchday 3. Let’s hope there won’t be any handbags! Also, RobboKlopp take on Guardiolas of the Galaxy and we’re not anticipating any crowd trouble in that one!

Group Cuellar

Thor: Wagnerok took a 7-2 hammering from Howe to Train Your Dragon who maintainted their fiery start to the competition. There’ll be no Chianti for the Silence of the Lambert as they lost again, this time to Godfather: Pardew, whose 6-3 win will have pleased their boss.

Howe to Train your Dragon are flying and next up they pit their wits against fellow pacesetters Godfather: Pardew; let’s see if they can make the Dragons an offer they can’t refuse. Thor: Wagnerok will be hoping for better luck in a crucial meeting with the Silence of the Lambert; whoever loses this will be up against it to qualify.

Group Demel

Hughes Line is it Emery may need to improvise after another heavy defeat, the Hills Have Moyes ran out 7-2 winners and finally have some scary momentum going into the next set of fixtures. Alice in Wengerland must have had some of what When ‘Arry Met Sarri were having because this one ended all square meaning both teams sit joint top of their table.

Next matchweek sees the winless Hughes Line is it Emery take on the excitable When ‘Arry Met Sarri, the former will be hoping to channel their inner Emery rather than their inner Hughes. Meanwhile, the Hills Have Moyes will be hoping to not get lost as they negotiate a tricky matchup against the in form Alice in Wengerland.

Notable Performers

This week’s top team was Howe to Train Your Dragon who averaged an impressive 64 points and they even managed to pit their lowest scorer (35) against their opposition’s lowest scorer (31). Their win came despite the best efforts of our player of the week: The Pep revolution recorded an amazing 87, well done.

Matchday 3

Matchday 3 will be  Gameweek 16, so team managers will need to submit their line-ups by the gameweek deadline on 8th December.

Here is a reminder of the rules:

  • The managers have to submit a list of 8 members at ffscommunityorganisers@gmail.com before the deadline of each Gameweek, which will always coincide with the FPL deadline.
  • Every member of the list plays their counterpart in a H2H format with a win resulting in 1 match point accrued for the team, a draw 0.5 match points and a loss resulting in 0 match points.
  • The first member of the list is considered the captain of the team whose victory results in 2 match points for his team, or 1 match point in the case of a draw.
  • In case a manager fails to send his team before the deadline, their captain will be the player with the lowest OR, and their bench will be made up of their next three best performing players.Tournament Schedule is as follows:Matchday 3 – GW16Matchday 4 – GW17Matchday 5 – GW18

    Matchday 6 – GW19 (boxing day)

    Quarters – GW22

    Semis – GW23

    Final – GW24

    Good luck everybody!

Think current Manager Melee scoresheet has an error. TrustJohn is down as losing his tie 52-58. He actually got 62. It should be 8-1 to us. Our team total is of course 10pts down. Can become crucial in the crunch part of tournament.
      Thanks a lot! 🙂

Latest Press Conference from Arsene Wengerland –

FFS: Arsene, you looked at one point like you were going to lose, but managed a draw in the end. How did you rally your players at half time?
AW: Honestly I just told them to chill out and focus on the game. Also I reminded them where the bench is and how cold it can be to sit on it. And we changed the sauce to Hollandaise.
FFS: One of your former players, The Pep Revolution, had the highest score for American Dycho. Do you regret letting him run down his contract and subsequently leaving on a free?
AW: He was one of our top, top quality players for Salah-mon Islands last season, I hoped he would stay with us.
FFS: Did he give a reason for leaving?
AW: Apparently he has an intolerance to condiments. This was simply unacceptable, as quality relish is one of our clubs core values.
    FFS: Oh…erm…any team news?
AW: Boris Bodega’s team is lit up like a Christmas tree – Holding, Duffy, Mané, Robertson, Arnautovic and Jazz Richards have been complete disasters for him. The rest of the team looks ok.
FFS: Lastly, Arsene, what do you make of your next opponents, the Hills Have Moyes?
AW: Honestly their team picture scares the life out of me, we hope that staring is the sum of their offensive potential, and that our superior abilities will prevail in the match.
    FFS: Good luck Arsene

We present to you an exclusive pre-match press conference with Professor Bear, who is wearing a Pep mask and shirt live from Xandar courtesy of HaxBall via the Guardian:

Jonathan Wilson: Let's cut to the chase. Will Klopptomist start in the upcoming match?

PB: "He has a little niggle but we are hoping he trains well and will play an important part on Saturday and Sunday, but we do not want to risk him if he is not 110%, but I think he will maybe play, yes, maybe no."

Barry Glendenning: So what will be your team against the erratically exhausted and perenially underachieving RoboKlopp?

PB: "I have a deep squad, I trust a lot with the players, of course there are a lot of games and they are going to be involved with that. Always what we do in the right moment is to do well today, in the game we are going to play."

Martha Kelner and Sean Ingle (simultaneously): Could you be a bit more vague right now?

PB: "I don't know, I don't have the report right now."

*someone gets evacuated for shouting BALD FRAUD!*

Daniel Taylor: How does it feel to be down to 10 men for the second successive game? I have heard rumours the player in question may make a reappearance, is this true?

PB: "Of course it’s not the same to play 10 v 11, I promise you, I have my experience. Normally [we are] the guys who try to take the ball, and have 65 to 70% per cent of the possession. Always we have sent offs. All the time. Maybe one day, once, they can explain me that. Maybe one day we have 11 v 11."

Sean Ingle: Do you enjoy reading?

PB: "I don't read. I start reading and before I know it I am reading about Jurgen Klopp. I can't be ****ed with that."

Jamie Jackson: How do you feel about having 10 Guardiolas instead of 10 Agueros on your side?

PB: "**** you Jamie and your unicorn bull****."

*PB storms out of the press conference*

It’s been a tough road trip. First we had to drop off ‘Hughes Line is it Emery’ at the Employment Exchange for a spot of emergency rebranding; then off to Katz’s Deli for a Pastrami Sandwich and a warm embrace with ‘When Arry met Sarri’; and now we’re stuck in a broken down Winnebago somewhere in an abandoned nuclear test-site surrounded by a bunch of cannibals who haven’t eaten since 1947. Three away games in a row – Boris, you really need to have a word with the Management.

Having found a quiet spot to chill out in Area 51, Arsene and Boris are busy plotting how to get out of this fixture without being eaten, while David Pleat is running around screaming we’re doomed. Meanwhile the media furore following our controversial draw against WAMS shows no sign of abating. It’s true we were floored when Arnie got hooked early; and when we got blindsided by all those Kane points; but there’s absolutely no truth in the rumour that the Ref ran a slow count to allow time for Alonso to get booked and for Lloris to lose his clean sheet. And surely WAMS should have been penalised anyway for being unable to control their players.

The clamour for a rematch is now reaching fever pitch, and no-one is talking about the pending bloodbath between the Dychos and Modballs in Group Anicebe. I told Boris that he should play hardball in the negotiations – maybe a new hat or perhaps some sound-proofing so we don't have to keep listening to the warbling from the loser who lives next door – but apparently the return match has already been fixed.

All we need to do is survive a weekend in the dessert ….
