Scoutcast Episode 281 – Buzzing

Harry Kane’s ankle injury, which is set to keep him out of action until March, tops the bill during an action-packed show that bizarrely also takes in James Bond and Toy Story.

After taking great pleasure in looking back on their excellent Gameweek 22 scores, the Scoutcast crew tuck into the key questions from the community ahead of the next set of matches.

Kane’s absence sees David, Joe, Az and Luke discuss the best forward options, with Manchester United’s talismanic striker topping their lists. Moving money into midfield is also considered as the crew look at Dele Alli’s Buzz Lightyear-esque ability to step up whenever his Spurs’ team-mate is absent.

Whether to ditch disappointing players from the ranks of Chelsea, Everton and West Ham is another issue tackled.

Meanwhile, there are some words of warning for those looking to deploy their second wildcard now rather than save it to help navigate the double and blank Gameweeks to come.

Elsewhere, Az’s round-up of the community’s recent moves showcases a high-flying manager with a licence to thrill in the overall rankings.

The crew finish off with a look at their transfer and captaincy plans as well as the best differentials and defences in Gameweek 23.

Good team. Possibly Snodgrass to Alli and bench Wilson has the potential to get you ahead of curve if Alli does well. A risk but one I would take. Or Snodgrass to David Silva.

I’ll be fuming if he misses the game.

I offloaded martial and priced out of TAA to robbbo now by 0.1 and don’t fancy VVD. As id then need the 4th defender we don’t wanna play AWB ! Eurgh.

I got rid of Anderson. It’s very close however.

I feel a Richarlison can be more of a talisman, better fixtures and has a bit of bad luck the last two gameweeks with shots cleared off the line. He’s also cheaper.

It’s very close like I said. But that’s how I justified it after going through stats etc.

Tom Watson might be Deputy Leader, but it is in title only. He is sidelined so much - you barely see him on TV. It is always Corbyn, McDonnell, Gardiner, Long-Bailey, Ashworth and Burgon.

Exactly - his weight loss and diabetes reversal only. Not much political stuff.

Labour keep their front bench on a tight leash. Some of the more prominent members (Diane Abbott, Dawn Butler, Emily Thornberry, Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner) have been reined in recently, when they were very vocal previously.

    What are people thinking?

    BGW27: Bench the blankers
    GW28-32: Buy DGW32 players
    BGW31: FH
    DGW32: BB/TC
    BGW33: Bench the blankers
    GW34: WC
    DGW35: BB/T

Up to you. This would work quite well for me because I've typically gone for players from top players in my side, and I don't want to ditch them just so I can cover the blanks and FH in the double GW32.

I don't think it's too early to (at least) consider, because once you get BGW27, you're only 4-5 FTs away from GW31, which may not be enough to adjust to a specific strategy (e.g. to by enough BGW31/33 players or enough DGW32 players). I'm not, for example, going to sell players now who have DGW32, unless they are really bad, so that I can use my transfers on other things rather than up to 2FTs on selling and re-buying a DGW32 player. If it doesn't work out that way, then fine, but I believe planning could give us an edge if it falls into place.

      1. Deulofail
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Yes, I don't know who those players are going to be. There are a certain amount of assumptions and hypotheticals going on. E.g. I'd prefer not to buy Alli because he's a possible GW27 blanker, but with TAA out, I need to sell one, and Alli is the lesser of two evils because I should be able to manage the blank with him and 2 City mids on the bench (if I also sell Digne). If I own 3 GW27 blankers in GW27, then I MAY have an advangtage over those who only own one or two or zero, if they are going for the same strategy for me, assuming these players are more likely to have a DGW before the WC.

It's boring to write all these things down about your own team, so responsibility to plan falls with the individual, as there's no one-size-fits-all strategy imo

    Perhaps a stupid question...

What I don't understand is how is taking hits now -8 or -12 any better than using WC now and taking hits nearer dgws when we actually know who will be playing and when?

Its a fair point, guess you'll want to do more than a -12 for the DGW's.

    3. Richd
      • 11 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

Because to get the DGW squad could be more than -8 or -12 imo.

But I get your logic you could WC now and limit yourself to a -8 or -12 but you may not get everyone you want.

It’s the little things like two playing keepers etc.

      1. teknicolourfox
        • 10 Years

Fair point, guess I've hung on in the past and saved WC for dgw and its never really paid off, so would rather use sooner (used mine pretty much as soon as it came out) when team needs it and use chip for dgw.

Then again, I'm well down in the ranks

How likely is Aguero to start the next few?

Honestly we don’t know. Aguero is the man and must be over the flu now. However Jesus has been on fire.

I just don’t think you can trust either and Sterling and sane are the limits of what you can trust in the very short term.

    Anything worth a hit here??

    Fabianski
    Doherty Robertson AWB
    Salah Hazard Richarlison Pogba
    Rashford Jimenez Wilson

    Hamer Snodgrass Schindler Dunk

    0 FT, 3.5 ITB

    Thanks

      AWB bad fixture
      Wilson May be injured
      Pogba didn’t train

Your first sub could be dropped.

I think you can justify a hit to ensure you get XI good players out for sure. But wait until the press conferences.

Schlinder to VVD (or Shaw if you what the £) will pay back the hit pretty quickly

    Robertson Luiz Doherty Digne AWB
    Salah Pogba Rich Hazard Billing
    Auba Rashford Jimenez

Best Gk under 4.7 for this lot ?

    A- Patricio

Wider target for his wayward crosses to hit?

    I’m struggling guys.

I am on a -4. Was gonna consider a -8 TAA to Robertson but Robertson’s surprise rise means I’m now 0.1 short.

Shall I just do TAA to VVD? He isn’t the guy I want but I’m priced out now and as I’m at max Liverpool I would need a hit to get Robbo but could be priced out of VVD as well.

    So messy.

I’d be playing Digne Alonso and Doherty anyway but I’m thinking longer term.

Tough call, I don't think VVD is necessarily a bad option, I'd probably go for him in your situation.
You not considering dropping Alonso to Robbo?

I would drop Alonso to Robbo, but because I have TAA Salah and Firmino that’s two moves due to the max 3 players from one club.

        Messy !

      VVD still a good option
