Glossing over another near miss last Gameweek – Wayne Rooney’s contribution deserved a goal but it just didn’t come – we look ahead to a weekend bathed in sunshine and lathered in goals.

As the Premier League heats up for the final furlong, three home games take our fancy, and as per usual, Paddy Power have made some tempting specials for us to test our Flutter tenner.

First up is Swansea’s Icelandic midfielder, Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson. The hammer blows cast in two of his last three outings have suddenly transformed Swansea into a top eight side – his Norse god namesake proud. Paddy have him at 6/1 to get a goal and Swansea to keep a clean sheet against Everton, which is likely the best business of the weekend. With the stats backing this up, seven home cleanies and five goals in just shy of 690 minutes of pitch time, our first Flutter fiver is spent.

Each week, Luis Suarez puts in his now customary workhorse performance with a dollop of flair, but fails to notch a goal. With Wigan at Anfield this weekend, is the scene set for Suarez to finally deliver? A Suarez goal and Liverpool to get a cleansheet at 6/4 doesn’t seem very generous from Paddy, but as the Latics have continued to struggle for goals, there is some value there to balance the risk. We’re going to take a pass on this one though and save our pennies, as a red-hot Antonio Valencia is up next.

Valencia’s return from his near career ending leg break has been an exceptional one. Back in his stride with goals and assists flowing, he and Man United, are looking good to stay the distance at the top of the table, even with the magic touch of Carlos Tevez returning to their sky blue neighbours. Paddy offer 4/1 on Valencia to provide yet another assist and United to keep a clean sheet at home to Fulham. An easy choice for our Flutter’s remaining fiver.

Our final bet is a clean-sheet treble of Man United, Liverpool and Swansea. Paddy are offering a fairly promising 7/1 on this, a price hard to beat, yet with away goals all the rage in last week’s fixtures, hitting the treble may be a bit too much of an ask.

Money Back Specials

There are two refund specials on offer from Paddy this weekend, starting at the London derby at Stamford Bridge. If Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard or John Terry score the last goal of this game, Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the match up to £100 per customer. Similarly, down at the Britannia, if Aguero scores the last goal in City’s clash with Stoke, Paddy will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match up to £100 per customer.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

    RVP vs Rooney captain debate

Since both players are heavily involved in everythin their sides do it comes down to a couple of situations
    1. If you're ahead in your minileague - Captain RVP as everyone else will
    2. If you trailin far behind captain Rooney
    3. If you just made up a huge lead/lost a small lead and are close to the leader captain rvp and dont let that hard work go to waste
    4. If you have just 1 arsenal player and 3 manu players like most ppl do.. captain rvp, so you get a false 2 players from arsenal and just 3(and not 4!) players from MANU

    Also,
Villa have conceded 12 goals since christmas.. that's just 12 goals in 11 games
In the same period fulham have conceded 17..
Rooney 49 points in last 5 home games(90 mins)
    RVP 53 in last 5
Point being, on paper you cant go wrong with either.. just do the captain choice based on your particular minileague situation

For those of you that use stats

Nice post. Has there been much in the way of 'will RVP get subbed off early' comments on here? It's in the back of my mind - if Arsenal have the game wrapped up, he is due a rest.

That's a pretty big difference in goals conceded...

Fulham don't need anything from this gameweek. Villa do.

Arsenal just need 3 points, Man U want to catch City on goal difference...

Point 1 contradicts point 2. "If you’re ahead in your minileague – Captain RVP as everyone else will." But if everyone else is behind you, does that mean they'll all captain Rooney? Therefore, if you're ahead in your mini-league, should you captain Rooney as well?

Looks half decent. I'd have Dempsey first sub myself. Even if Fulham lose 4-1 he could get the 1. And Simpson up against an in form WBA.

Keeper choice is tricky. I prefer Vorm, but Mignolet made the picks.

No doubt he can score goals. Average position doesn't mean too much when Hernandez takes up the best ones in the box.

One of those goals was a penalty, larger example required to use as worthwhile statistics.

Anyone taking a second look at Walters as a cheaper mid for this week?
I know it's City, but they have not been the defensive juggernaut they used to be.
Kompany and Lescott are out, so there could easily be chaos in the box against Stoke set pieces.
"Red Card Waiting to Happen" DeJong slated for start and Walters on pens.

Could be intriguing and many who used to own him have moved on and dumped him. I know I had.

He's nailed on for a penalty, cos he's due. Shame I wasted my transfer without considering him. There were so many good options but Russell Martin stood out the most for me.

Don't know. Crazy man. May give up penalty to Walters for all we know. And lord knows I wrote him off a long time ago.

Who's ditching silva then? Current mid is Silva, Siggy, Valencia, Bale, brunt.
Anyone else considering a punt on Silva> Gerrard?

Was thinking about it all week and decided against it because Gerrard played 90 mins vs QPR and thought he might get rested (as just back). But now Adam's out for the season Gerrard certain to start. So again not sure.......for me it would be a 4pt hit......

So which players gonna piss you off the most this GW? Either because you didn't get them in and they score mega bucks or you kept them or just got them in for a hit and they produce a 2pt masterclass?

I've got Walcott, Gerrard, Silva and Siggy on my list

One of Russell Martin or Walters. I don't have the funds to get Walters, and am bottling it on captaining Martin.

Somehow, I just see Walters taking one from the spot because that nutter DeJong did something insane. Stoke still gonna lose, but for a week, Walters is on that list.

Martin would be nice add to my cheap defense, but I'm gonna sit with my 'pool defenders and then they will crap all over me again like they did last week. Hmm. Maybe not too late yet.

Good to go for this week?

    Mignolet
    Enrique, Evans, Skertl
    Walcott, Bale, Valencia, Siggy
    RVP, Rooney,Suarez

    Subs - Krul, Caulker,Dempsey,Senderos

Haven't decided on Captain yet. League leader will captain RVP but he does not have Rooney, 33 pts behind so i am trying to decide if i should mirror his captain and hope that Rooney, Valencia, Siggy score well as he does not have them. He does have Mata and Downing!! though.
