Lets be honest its bloomin’ cold in Blighty at the moment. Whilst the majority can sit tight at home wrapped in blankets with a hot drink, many hardy souls still brave their local grounds to watch and support their teams whatever the weather. For them the inconvience of a cold nose is overidden by the passion for their team. However sometimes the weather becomes so bad that games simply cannot take place no matter how much the fans want them to.

In the past the problem was the fact that pitches would freeze over meaning they became unplayable. Advances in undersoil heating has meant that this is less of an issue for the majority of Premier League clubs these days. Indeed Fulham, who were notorious for not having undersoil heating, had it installed over the summer. One team who still live in the dark ages with in this area is unsurprisingly Blackpool who, if you will remember, had issues getting their ground up to spec for the start of the season. Unfortunately this could have a serious impact on our Fantasy Football teams.

Blackpool’s next three fixtures include games against Manchester United and Tottenham, games which would likely provide potential captain choices. In the past the concern for a captain would be if he didn’t play you would just get zero points multiplied to zero. Thankfully now, like it or loath it, with the Emergency captain strategy function this is no longer an issue. It does, however, mean that with the cold weather playing havoc with the fixture list, players should keep a careful eye on who their potential substitute captain is.

Blackpool’s fixtures are by no means the only one players should keep an eye out on. Last season for example Wigan Athletic, who had worked furiously all week to ensure access to the DW Stadium was safe for supporters, had to call off their match against Aston Villa after their undersoil heating broke down. Elsewhere clubs, worried about the safety of fans around the ground, have been known to call games off. A point Gary Lineker picked up on last season

‘It is not the fault of the clubs. Because of the icy roads and car parks, they are probably terrified of getting sued if someone slips over on the way to the game. It’s a sign of the times we live in. The irony is that undersoil heating has helped the pitches but because there is less common sense these days in allowing fans to decide for themselves if they want to go to the game, we still have a large number of postponements.’

Situations like this are uncontrollable and there is little more we can do as FPL manager’s than keep a careful eye on updates on Fantasy Football Scout and the local clubs websites. Caution over transfers, which is usually advised, is therefore even more important at this time of year.

I remember last season I was affected by the snow and it cost me my place in the FPL cup. I was one point behind my opponent in the league with Lee of Bolton to play away at Wigan. Surely he’s get more than one point and i’d cruise into the next round? what happened? yep, the game was called off. Its ok i thought, i’ve got subs to come in. Guess who my sub was – one Michael Turner who’d been sent off that weekend. I ended up losing the cup game by 3 points all because of health and safety concerns around the ground. The pitch was fine but apparently the roads weren’t. Thanks a lot Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council.

There were concerns around todays game between Newcastle and Chelsea and thankfully Sky Sports News provided ample updates on the status of the game. That was not before a number of people on the Fantasy Football Scout forums discussed and worried over the likelihood of the game being called off. There is genuinely no better place to keep up to date with potential games being called off than the Scout boards and the Scout Twitter though, so make sure you keep visiting to find out potential postponements.

All in all the advice is to keep careful attention to potential games which could be affected, Newcastle, Sunderland and Wigan have been notorious in the past for game cancellation as well as ensuring that you keep up to date with your Emergency captain. Fingers crossed no games will be called off, but at least we have the consolation of potential double game week in the future. Every Cloud etc.

What a fecking terrible weekend. Chelsea were shit, my fantasy team was even shitter and Forest Green conceded a last minute equaliser, again! The only thing that could make this weekend worse is Cowell saving that ghastly, sneering little gypo on the X Factor tonight.

That's what it's come to... I'm relying on some retarded TV show saving my weekend.

I'll have 9 players playing at home next week, then Vidic and Nani at Blackpool. If I have another shit week, I will officially have had enough.

The snow is an advantage to the FFS massive. We'll be able to keep up to speed and play the players who are actually going to play.

I made huge advances during the snow last year, like when I captained Tevez because lots of weekend games were cancelled, but City were playing Blackburn on the Monday, and he subsequently got a hat-trick.

Not to mention the advantage of being able to capitalise on double game week action.

Wasn't he injured for basically the whole of that season? Drogba's problem is malaria, and whether he can actually get over it.

I'm not sure about Drogba to Rooney though, one troubled, out of form striker for another.

If Torres doesn't get his act together, I'll just downgrade and put the cash elsewhere. Hell knows where though, it seems like it's not worth investing in attack, midfield or defence right now.

He was injured 3 months, and then duly benched 6 months. Big Phil got fired for that, fecking genius if you ask me, Drog was just rubbish. He had one very good season (last year), and everyone here is thinking he is the best striker in the world.

He wasn't bad in 06/07 either. Won the golden boot.

Big Phil was clearly the rubbish one, that's why he was sacked. Hiddink got Drogba playing well at the back end of that season (and scoring some pretty important goals in the Champions' League), but Anelka took centre stage as he already had the form and fitness.

Fair enough for 06/07, but then I would say the Elk got the golden boot when he was finally playing in the middle (08/09).

Malaria is pretty serious. Kolo Toure was never the same player after he contracted it.

          A little harsh...

He's such a frustrating player, because he usually performs to the best of his ability when people start doubting him. When he lets all the hype get to him, he starts playing like a fool and looks generally disinterested.

Although I didn't actually think he was that bad today, the last few weeks have been pretty worrying from him. Hopefully with the fixtures getting harder for the next month, he'll be back to his focused best.

There's also the whole malaria issue, and we don't know how much that's affecting him.

I'm keeping him, although that's partly due to the fact that I have more pressing issues to take care of, and I've vowed to stop taking so many point hits.

I would like to see a change in the scoring system to boost defenders' points. They should get 1pt for keeping a clean sheet for a full half-game. 4pts (in total) if they keep a clean sheet for the full game. The way premiership matches have gone the last two seasons the only defenders worth having are those who get forward and score.

So if a defender lets in one goal in the second half, but they play the full match, does that mean that they get three points, as they kept a CS in the first half?

      Or do you mean:

      45 - 59 minutes = 1 point
      60 - 90 minutes = 4 points

And if a defender concedes at any point then they don't get CS point(s) for their stint.

If you mean the latter then I don't see this affecting the scoring too much, as it would only help defenders that are taken off at half-time or just after half-time.

And if you mean the former, then consider this:

Defender A lets in 2 goals, one in each half. Defender B lets in 2 goals, both in the second half.

      Defender A scores: 2 - 1 = 1 point

      Defender B scores: 2 + 1 - 1 = 2 points

But both defenders let in 2 goals, and yet their scores are different. Sorry, this sounds like a horrendous idea from you.

Everyone stops playing well eventually and sometimes one will play better than the others, one or the other is which I'm hoping for.

I took Drogba out prior to most people and he stopped scoring in a wonderful fashion justifying my decision, I feel Elmander will stop and Rooney's work rate will cause issues for Blackpool. I could be wonderfully wrong but the game's about taking chances.

Right thought about it and boils down to 1 place for Jarvis or Elmander. Both poor fixtures. £3.1m in bank. For -4 i can do
    (1) risk Elamnder as decent away but to city..

    (2) Jarvis -> Nasri
(3)Elmander -> Bent, Berbatov, Balotelli, Chamakh (in order of preference)

    What would you do?

How has Elmander got poor fixtures? Look beyond next week.

Elmander is also a beast away from home, I'm not sure why everyone is fretting so much about him having to go to City. He's scored at almost every other away ground he's played at.

this is my first season so idk the deal with the snow...shud i have coverage for every team or what?

    hart /

    vidic / ridgewell / kolarov /

    nani / vdv / bale / nasri /

    elmander / carroll / drogba

    carson/baines/adam/lowry/

thats a good team! imliking Bents prospects, though im making sure not to declare ...''Im getting Bent'' on here, for obv reasons,

Not sure rafael is 100% nailed on, think brown will swap with him occasionaly,

Persnally would go with Nzog over MGP also, but great Front line.

Good team, almost too good though. What I mean by that is that you're going to have a selection nightmare every week. I'd prefer to drop one of Brunt, Adam or MGP for a decent cheapie option e.g. Barton, Albrighton as bench fodder to be played when they have a favourable fixture and use the extra money to upgrade Rafael to Vidic/Evra/Rio as they're guaranteed starters

Don't think Onuoha is worth 0.9m more than Bardsely either.

(Then again, better not go with advice from me - only got 38pts this week, and chose the wrong captain again as I seem to do every week...).
