Allsvenskan Fantasy: GW4 roundup and GW5 preview

It’s busy times for Allsvenskan Fantasy managers with a midweek game week coming up just as we wrap up GW4. No less than 5 games will be played on Wednesday, so be aware of the early deadline (18.00 CET)!

It is also a game week that provides us with several interesting match ups; the predicted top 6 teams all go head to head as Malmö face Hammarby, AIK host Häcken and Djurgården travel to Norrköping. In this article, we’ll look in more depth into these games after a short summary of the weekend action.

GW 4 – the talking points

Jordan Larsson: Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde?

It was an eventful day for Celtic legend Henrik Larsson’s son Jordan Larsson (7.1). 2 goals seemed to delight his owners (many of whom trusted him with the armband) but a stupid second yellow for kicking the ball away meant an early bath for Larsson and a suspension in the upcoming GW. As it was two yellows, Larsson serves a one match ban and is expected to be back for the weekend, where his fine form (4 goals in 4) means Fantasy managers should maybe utilize the bench rather than shipping one of the most in-form strikers in the league. Despite Larsson’s red card, Norrköping managed to score a 4-3 stoppage time winner. Was this the spark needed to get the season going for the expected title contenders?

Premium strikers blanking…

Jordan Larsson’s striker partner Christoffer Nyman (9.8) left the field injured after not even half an hour. Linus Hallenius (10.6) was subbed around the 75th minute, also blanking and considered a doubt for GW5. Paulinho (12.1), who saved many game week scores last time out, left the outing with a blank. As did Antonsson (11.0), Rosenberg (10.0), Djurdjic (10.0), Goitom (9.9), Buya Turay (9.6), and Jeremejeff (9.6). To be fair, Kjartansson (10.0) scored for the second game in a row and Buya Turay has 3 in 4, but with injury doubts, some being dropped and others facing tricky fixtures – is it time to reconsider the premium strikers?

…So why not go budget?

Well, Benjamin Nygren (5.8) is making the justification of premiums even harder given the value he’s offering. Nygren has already seen a 0.3 price rise but is still yet to hit half of Paulinho’s price. Perhaps most importantly, he’s now the designated penalty taker and stepped up from the spot against Helsingborg. A goal, an assist and attacking bonus means the 17 year old is now the top scoring Fantasy Allsvenskan asset. Recent games have also seen the introduction of a proper striker partner in Lasse Vibe (8.5), who scored 1 and assisted 1 in the 3-0 win against Helsingborg. 3 away games in the next 4 causes some concern (particularly as the only home game is against AIK) but in this case form most likely beats fixtures.

AIK struggling – and losing!

As a matter of fact, the AIK home game might not be too tough for Nygren as previously thought. It was a rare sight at Behrn Arena: the reigning champions lost to last placed Örebro after a stoppage time winner, his second for the day, by Rogic (7.9). Having lost only 1 game in the previous 45 Allsvenskan games, few would have expected Axel Kjäll’s side to beat the black and yellows. A far from impressive start to the season causes headaches for those who have doubled or even tripled up on the AIK defence.

Djurgården – the real deal?

Finding themselves in the ice hockey finals, this could very well be Djurgården’s year in both of Sweden’s main sports. That is at least the talk on the town after an impressive display away to Häcken and DIF being three points clear at the top of the table. Last year’s big name signing Erik Berg (6.0) scored the only goal and is now the highest scoring defender with two clean sheets also added to his name. Witry (5.0) will miss the coming game weeks but should be seriously considered once he returns. In the meantime, both Berg and Danielsson (5.5) prove good alternatives, in addition to striker Buya Turay (9.6) who’s scored 3 in the opening 4 and Bärkroth (8.1) who have as many assists.

GW 5 – the match ups

Malmö – Hammarby

In this game, we see two teams that have struggled a bit in the season start but picked up three points by the weekend. Malmö has back-to-back wins and look back to their normal after a surprising defeat away to Sundsvall in GW2. Sören Rieks (9.4) scored the winner but it’s perhaps captain Markus Rosenberg (10.0) that has had the most impact – 1 point in the two games without him has been followed by 6 points since his introduction to the season.

Hammarby picked up a first win of the season against AFC Eskilstuna after two goals by Imad Khalili (6.9) and a goal for the second game straight by Kjartansson (10.0). A note for most of the bargain seeking fantasy managers: Odilon Kossounou (4.0) is way down in the pecking order and despite injuries to other center backs coach Billborn seems to look at any other option than playing him. If no other issues, try to replace him – possibly with team mate Sandberg (5.2) who’s kept last year’s pace of delivering crosses and key passes.

Predictions:

• Malmö look likely to win and to score more than once. If possible, bench Hammarby defenders

• A clean sheet could be on the cards for Malmö

• Malmö options are good captaincy options this week, if you trust them to start. Christiansen or Rosenberg should be the safest options

AIK – Häcken

As mentioned earlier, both AIK and Häcken suffered defeats this weekend and will look to bounce back into the title race. Häcken coach Andreas Alm lead AIK from 2011 to 2016 and knows his way around the team, as do Ahmed Yasin (8.5) who was part of the title winning side last year. They will both have more than just 3 points to play for.

Last year, an in-form Häcken side had lined up three pointers and were filled of confidence going to the national stadium – just to see Seb Larsson (9.0) put in a superb performance together with his colleagues and 3-0 on the score sheet already at half-time. AIK has historically brushed aside Häcken quite easily and seem to enjoy the spaces provided from the attacking mentality of the Gothenburg side. Henok Goitom (9.9) and Jack Lahne (7.0) are likely to remain their spots in the starting XI after Goitom getting a first start of the season against Örebro. Despite failing to get a goal, the Häcken attack with Paulinho, Jeremejeff (9.6), and Yasin is expected to remain unchanged and could very well take advantage of an AIK team still trying to find form.

Predictions:

• Both teams are likely to score and a draw would be far from surprising

• Play your premiums, but don’t captain them

Norrköping – Djurgården

Could the in-form Djurgården get another upset away to Norrköping? It doesn’t look too far-fetched given that Norrköping will miss both their strikers, Nyman and Larsson. Kalle Holmberg (8.3) replaced Nyman and did not disappoint however, getting a goal and an assist to his name. 4 goals is of course impressive, but conceding 3 against Falkenberg is more than the opposite. Thern (8.9), Thorarinson (8.5), and Fransson (8.0) all got assists and the midfield together with Sead Haksabanovic (8.9) need to step up given the shortage of strikers.

For Djurgården, Ring (7.0) missed the game against Häcken due to illness but is likely to regain his spot in the starting XI at the expense of Radetinac (6.3). On the other flank, Bärkroth (8.1) provided a third assist of the season and created two key chances in order to get 8 points. Tommy Vaiho (4.5) got the nod between the posts and also collected 8 points. The goalkeeper situation is one to keep an eye on, as the solid defence now might have a cheap route into. However, we probably want more evidence before making any bets on Vaiho who should still be considered second choice after Bratveit.

Predictions:

• This could be a tight, low-scoring game. Although Norrköping shipped 3 against Falkenberg, the 0-0 game against AIK is fresh in mind and Djurgården’s defence looks very solid

• A draw would be far from surprising

Looking ahead

FT used Hallenius to Haglund and will captain him :

    Joelsson
    Karlsson Sundgren Danielsson
    Christiansen Thorarinson Jarl Nalic
    Buya Haglund (c) Jeremejeff

44 points last time out so not too disappointed

The only pattern I’ve seen emerging so far is that Falkenbergs concede a lot! So decided to play on that..

        Good luck with your WC

    So here's a WC draft, 5.1m itb..

    Abrahamsson, Joelsson
    Danielsson, Dimitriadis, Larson, Altiti, Hodzic
    Christiansen, Romario, Saeid, Nalic, Jarl
    Paulinho, Haglund, Nygren

Where should I invest? Any of those picks look bad?

I'm considering Jarl to a heavy hitting midfielder but could do anything really

Only thing you’re lacking is a Djugardens attacker, fixtures not the best but they look the team to beat to me.

Yeah.. Norrköping, Hammarby, AIK, Helsingborgs in the next 4. Spots 6 through 9, but good sides.

Turay would be good, could look Ring I guess

Ring has done well but Buya is the main man I reckon. Annoyingly, I wouldnt want to get rid of any of your strikers!

I would spend more in midfield....

An Ostersund midfielder: Aiesh for assists or Edwards for goals.

A Norkopping midfielder: Thorarinson/Thern also pick up bonus.

Sundsvall mid Sema has some good fixtures and faces Falkenbergs next weekend. 😉

(If only I had that goalkeeper combo...)

Good Wildcard-team, perhaps with a little risk of chasing last weeks points. An AFC triple up is a bit too much for me, I'm still convinced that they'll struggle this season, and would only concider Björkman and Jarl to free up cash.

Thorarinson, Bärkroth, Ring could be potential replacements if you'd like to upgrade Saeid or Nalic.

Yeah, I've tweaked it a bit. 0.5m bank now.

        Abrahamsson, Joelsson
        Andersson, Dimitriadis, Larson, Vindheim, Aliti
        Christiansen, Barkroth, Levi, Nalic, Jarl
        Paulinho, Haglund, Nygren

I think you're right on Barkroth, I really like him. Looking at Ring and Thorarinson as well, and Tankovic, Sema, Romario, and Traustason.
Nalic looks good value but with Jarl it feels a bit silly. Do you like that defence more, with no Hodzic?

The Aliti spot could be Sandberg as well, or anyone at 5.6 or lower

          Looks solid to me!

Would possibly try to find a way to swap Levi for Thorarinson, perhaps by downgrading Bärkroth for Ring? Or Vindheim to Bengtsson?

Love that midfield. There are news about AIK switching over to 4-3-3 which probably means Dimitriadis will be dropped.

Yeah I saw that! I dropped him. I know it's crazy but I'm toying with no AIK defence. But I'm also thinking about punting on Lindkvist. Mets the safest option?

Honestly I don't think that sounds too crazy, I regret going with 2 defensive AIK assets over 1 in my wildcard last week. I guess Mets is the safest option. It seems like the defensive bonus points makes central defenders great options in this game, Mets is one of those who can pick up 2 almost every game.

Yeah, very similar to mine above.

      GK - perfect
DEF - Witry still out? I like Danielsson a lot. I like Vindheim slightly more than Bengtsson.
MID - Why Sema and Thorarinsson? Lots of midfield options, genuinely interested.
      FOR - perfect

Thanks for replying! This is my first time playing Allsvenskan Fantasy, so just going on information I find online. That's why articles like this and the discussion are so valuable!

I think Witry will be great value when he returns, so taking a chance and keeping him on my bench for now. I could drop him and get him back later. Any idea how long he will be out? I thought about getting Berg instead, but would need to juggle my players to fit him in at this point. (only 0.5 itb)

I went Bengtsson because he's a little cheaper than Vindheim is 0.5K, no other reason there.

There are plenty of Mid options - I think Sundsvall have decent fixtures in the next few GWs, as for Thorarinsson - no real reason - he's in good form and has decent ownership (14%).

I made some tweaks, my team, looks like this.... with 2.4K itb

              Abrahamsson, Joelsson
              Danielsson, Karlsson, Aliti, Larson, Bengtsson
              Christiansen, Barkroth, Thorariansson, Nalic, Jarl
              Buya, Haglund, Nygren

I figure I can easily switch Buya for Paulinho and Aliti to Witry when they are healthy.

                I'm back on Sundgren now.

Nice team. I think Cibicki is in my team, but will swap that around looking at captaincy. I might go for a strong full side, with the third striker rotating every week or two for captaincy. Worth a try 😀

                  Thanks!

Why Cibicki over Buya? I think Djurgardens could have a big game this week.... (just curious). Karlsson saved me 0.5K over Sundgren..... currently have him benched prefer Danielsson, Larson, Bengtsson this week.

                  Good Luck!

I think they could too. Both are nice picks, and Kjartansson.

Danielsson vs Hodzic vs Larson for one spot, Vindheim vs Bengtsson for the other are my last choices

Hi Hansel and thanks for the article, always very much appreciated.

In the article you have Norkopping at home to Djurgarden but I believe it's Djurgarden that are at home unless the listing on the Allsvenskan website is incorrect.

If Djurgarden are indeed at home then I'm giving the armband to Buya Turay.

Always great to get these articles, and the chance to share thoughts about Allsvenskan Fantasy. Great work!

Personally I really struggle after another poor gameweek, but at least I have my chips strategy done now and I'm looking to wildcard in GW7. Was originally planning to wildcard in GW9, but I just don't think my team can last that long without a big overhaul. So for tonight and next GW, I can make short term moves to suit the fixtures. Have several issues in my team but still concidering a "luxery" transfer of Obasi out for Cibicki or Haglund. Good for two gameweeks, and a potential captain in a tricky gameweek like this.

What are your thoughts on a park the bus GW 10 (load up on AIK & Djugardens 5 man defence) then load up on Malmo on WC11 ready for their DGW?

      1. Bob Sacamano
        • 5 Years

That is my exact thoughts! 🙂

I was initially planning on Wildcard in GW 9 in order to play "Park the bus" in GW 10, but will now do the Wildcard in GW7 instead. My only worry is that there are a few weeks between GW7 and GW10, but hopefully I can save my transfers and use if someone gets injuried or suspended. My Wildcard would give the following GW10 defence:

        Mets (Falkenberg h)
        Karlsson (Falkenberg h)
        Dimitriadis (Falkenberg h)
        Witry (Elfsborg h)
        Bengtsson (Kalmar h)

Allsvenskan Fantasy a very unpredictable game, but I think on paper that this is the best opportunity I can have. Wildcard in GW7 would also give me an AIK triple-up in defence against AFC at home.

My Wildcard-team would also contain AC and Antonsson for a Malmö triple-up in theire DGW11, where I'll likely play my "Två kaptener" on AC and Antonsson. Would also have triple AIK and doubble Norrköping for theire DGW13. Most players also have decent fixtures around those gameweeks, although triple AIK-defence might feel a little hefty for games against Sundsvall, Hammarby and Djurgården. They are solid though, so a clean sheet is never impossible there.

Was all set to bring in Hallenius and play the "Attack"-chip in GW6, but the Hallenius injury has put me off of that. Also, I guess it's nice to save at least one chip for the second half of the season.

I'm tempted to play my Attack chip in GW9 with Buya (FFF away) Jeremejeff (kalmar home) and Haglund (Sundsvall home)

Then Park the bus in 10 (already have double AIk & Danielsson) so can work others in with FT.

Will probably WC in GW11 although it does suit 2 x captain, but will probably save the two captain chip for later in the season.

I'm hoping by GW11 the big hitters will have found form and my team will need to be altered a lot (hoping Malmo, Norrkoping, AIK will have found some attacking fluency which would mean I'd need a complete overhaul of my team)

I didn't want to play my WC but after another bad GW and a bad rank I needed to stop the bad. Hopefully I've done that.

Would real appreciate your input on my team

Thern (NOR), Yasin (BKH), Christiansen (MFF), Nalic (AFC), Jarl (AFC)

See mine above 🙂 I updated it.

I like the defence, though haven't looked into Holst. What's your thinking with the GKs?

Yasin seems a bit of a differential but there are lots of other options, he's not top of my list. And neither is Antonsson to be honest.. I like Haglund for much cheaper

      Looks decent!

Would probably swap Saxton for Joelsson who at least have a chance of playing as long as Hansson is out. Not a fan of triple AFC. They are already struggling, and I would only look at the really cheap players like Björkman and Jarl to free up cash.

Thorarinson is a bonus magnet and one I rate more than Thern in this game. Yasin is an excellent pick who I unfortunatly have to ditch for my Wildcard in GW7.

Not sure that Hägg is a good option for a set and forget keeper, but I'm struggling myself to find one in that price bracket. Also, I always prefer an AIK defensive doubble-up, but that's pretty expensive.

Cheers Hansel. Keeping hold of Larsson
Plan is to get these midweek games out of the way then probably wildcard time.
Too many flags and underperformers (Witry, Almqvist, Jarl, Larsson, Kossounou/Morrison flop so far)

      So, this is me:

      Linnér
      Hodzic, Isherwood, Bengtsson
      Bärkroth, Christiansen (c), Tankovic, Nalic
      Diouf, Antonsson (vc), Jeremejeff

      Joelsson, Jarl, Sandberg, Kossounou

      1 FT
      2,7 ITB

Looking to replace Isherwood. Danielsson the best bet?

Maybe I missed this, but will Captain Poll be delayed until after the Manchester derby result?

      Current WC draft:
      Abrahamsson
      Bengtsson - Sundgren - Larson
      Levi - Saeid - Christiansen - Nalic
      Nygren - Jeremejeff - Haglund
      (Joelsson - Hodzic - Jarl - Kossounou)

A bit unsure if I should go with this one or not. Have 6,2 m itb, as Paulinho is a doubt. Haglund will become Paulinho when fit. Other than that, I'm considering if I should go for Levi or Bärkroth.

      Thoughts?

Hodzic could also become a more expensive def.

      I somehow missed the deadline.

      Pettersson
      Konate Sundgren Hodzic
      Tankovic Christiansen (K) Nalic Thorarinsson
      Islamovic Buya Turay Jeremejeff

Not a bad start with Tankovic and Islamovic scoring.

      2FT for next week.

And Falkenbergs start keeping clean sheets when I bring in Haglund and Saeid...

      Of course they did...

        Typical isn't it!
Took out Hallenius, Diouf and Tankovic on my WC. All of them scored goals this GW…

I took out Hallenius as well and now he has FFF (h) next... the way fantasy football works out is cruel although Haglund has Elfsborg (h) too...

It's cruel indeed! Have money itb to do Haglund > Paulinho myself, but don't know if I'll do it.

Does anyone know the current injury/ illness/ suspension situations of Witry, Danielsson, Jarl, Jordan Larsson and Paulinho? What are any of their chances of starting GW6? Thanks!

Witry - Calf injury, expected out for another week or so. Should get more updates before next game, but wont play this weekend.

Danielsson - Taken to hospital with a concussion. I guess he'll be out for a week or two?

Jarl - Stepping up his rehab and participating in some parts of the training. I would guess a major doubt for the weekend, but hopefully back for GW7.

Larsson - Suspended in GW5, back in GW6. His replacement Skrabb scored but with Nyman out, Larsson should get straight back into the team.

Paulinho - Was ill midweek, game against AFC is on sunday so unless it was some real serious illness I'd guess he'll be back.

No problem. However, it's a combination of confirmed news and my own guessing 🙂

Well, it's good enough for me and is the difference between me potentially wasting my wildcard or not, so thank you. I see there needs to be some strategy employed around GWs 8-10 so it will be more handy then!

Does anyone know if there is the same auto sub system in Allsvenskan as in fpl, please? Paulinho didn’t play and I have a 7 point defender as first sub which would come in in fpl and switch the formation from 3-4-3 to 4-4-2 so it would a legal formation if the sub came in.

      Hi everyone

One thing I always found really offputting about Fantasy Eliteserien was that it was hard to match up the club names with the abbreviations. It made finding the match-ups too time-consuming as I would have to decode what clubs players play for/against before deciding on transfers, captains etc.

I am finding Allsvenskan a little easier as I think some of the abbreviations are more obvious and also because I know more about Swedish teams (from Football Manager mainly!).

But - I still need to learn a little more about the teams, their nicknames, abbreviations, badges, kits, etc., and as a starting point I have put together this list. This may be really really obvious to many but it has helped me so I hope it will help some of the other noobs on here too!

      AFC – AFC Eskilstuna
      AIK – AIK
      BKH – BK Häcken
      DIF – Djurgårdens IF
      FFF – Falkenbergs FF
      GBG - IFK Gothenburg
      HAM – Hammarby IF
      HIF – Helsingborg IF
      IFE - IF Elfsborg
      IKS (ICC) – IK Sirius
      KFF – Kalmar FF
      MFF – Malmö FF
      NOR - IFK Norrköping
      ÖFK – Östersunds FK
      ÖSK – Örebro SK
      SUN – GIF Sundsvall

The only thing I am unsure about is why Sirius seem to go by "IKS" in the next fixture (against the player on the pitch) and ICC in the 'mobile' view in the fixture list at the bottom. There may be more of these oddities - I only picked up on the IKS/ICC thing because one of my players has Sirius next.

Cheers for this, I guess us Swedes takes the abbreviations for granted but this is great as a reference! 🙂

No idea why IK Sirius is “ICC” on the mobile view, sounds odd. I personally never use the “IK” or “IF” etc, I just say “Sirius”. They make sense as abbreviations for short reference like “FFF” but in regular speech very few use the full names.

To get you started on the nicknames I support Hammarby (their logo is my grav), their traditional colours are green and white and are often called “Bajen”. Good luck and I hope you stick around!

Latest I heard (from BKH fans forum) is that he trained today and should be ok but maybe not fit for 90’

I would get rid. Pretty sure they will play the same lineup as last game as they looked better. Aliti is probably the best replacement if you don't have cash for Mets/Bengtsson/Berg
