The last couple of weeks have been, quite frankly, a nightmare for owning Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfielders. Squads have been decimated as hamstring injuries put paid to Cesc Fabregas and Rafael Van der Vaart, as well as Steven Gerrard. Mikel Arteta gets a straight red and is banned for three games, while the likes of Florent Malouda -with one goal and one assist in his last 10 games- may almost just as well have been sidelined, given the value of his recent contribution for a £10.2m Fantasy Player.

With plenty of Fantasy Managers looking for alternatives in light of absentees and ill-form, we decided to give our Members a view of the best-performing midfielders this season, breaking down both their scores and vital OPTA stats to weigh up the best and most consistent options as we go into a busy December schedule.

In particular, we discovered, and focus on, a group of eleven midfielders entitled “The Four or Mores”. These players have averaged 4 points or more per game both at home and away, which suggests a consistency that allows them to be fielded with, perhaps, more confidence than others. Here’s a breakdown:

Nail on the Head there Sir Paulos !!
I aimed at having VDV Fabs Malouda Nani as my SOLID base of a team with tweeks elsewhere . Its gone terrible wrong I`m even tempted to make a points hit just to field a playing XI now .
    Roll on next season 😉

Going to get rid of Arteta for N'Zogbia, would it be worth a 4 point hit to bring in MGP for VDV? my 4 point hit last week turned out miserably but VDV will be out for 4 weeks and his value should drop so i wouldn't be out that much, thaughts?

great article sir paulos, but could i just mention that averaging 4 points a game does not entirely suggest consistency. For example, a player could score 9,1,9,1 and average 4 points a game. You might want to look at the standard deviation? Sorry for being a nerd.

Cant understand why people are dropping Adam when their teams have far more urgent problems.
Only have to look at the stats to see how good Adam is.

Im a bit peeved off that he is going to drop in price when hes done nothing wrong. So what if he up against utd this week. Im really looking forward to watching how he goes , havent had a chance to see much of blackpool this season

I'm dumping him because I think Blackpool and him are about done. Admittedly this is just a feeling but many promoted clubs start this way and then fall away in the second half of the season. I would rather be well out of it by then, particularly as there are a lot of other options out there.

I was going to get Jarvis in a couple of weeks ago. Then someone on here pointed out his away record.

I took one long look at it and promptly decided to steer well clear. Since 4 of his next 6 are on the road that may be a wise move in the end.

I feel like im in the twilight zone here..

Trigger: i wasnt saying Blackpool cant get a result in those matches i was raising the question of whther the matches will actually be played with the big freeze coming.

Jafstar: You're talking out your ass. Last season I believe Portsmouth and Fulham were the only teams without undersoil heating but Fulham have since gotten it. Not sure about West Brom but I was under the impression that Blackpool were the only teams without it.
As for clearing, that's unknown. Even an emirates match had to be cancelled for that last season.

Craven: Not sure you're talkin to me or jafstar.

Anyway, the question i was asking was relating to how prone certain grounds and surrounding areas are to the elements and therefore postpnement. For instance (and i could be wrong here) I think Birmingham's matches are usually safe enough for whatever reason to do with the lie of the land. London premiership clubs are also, generally speaking a safe bet.

Sorry, but you don't get 7 assists by being lucky and mooching around doing nothing. And at this moment in time he's a more productive fantasy player than Malouda.

In fantasy you don't necessarily need to be a great skillful player. If you can pick up scrappy goals and get assists you're gold dust, even if you have 2 left feet.

I agree that looking at players' form is worthwhile in trying to determine how well they will do going forward. But if this wild season has taught me anything, it's that patience is key and fixtures are not always cut and dry. I'm a person who just took a points hit this last week to trade Berbatov out (I'm still crying), and also has not had the balls to captain someone the next week because he only got me 2 points the week before (this has come to haunt me as well). I think this season, the best strategy going forward is NO POINT HITS, and patience. There's a reason you choose people for your team in the first place, hold onto them and see what happens!!!!

Nope. We pondered over the exact same question and we (she) decided to go for the magimix and, while it is used, I wouldn't say it justifies the difference in price.

I would say without a doubt. The magimix will last a lifetime - it has an induction motor and is well built. It does depend upon how much you use it though. I had a kenwood which lasted pretty well - about 5 years - but then the plastic jug thingy cracked. The model had been discontinued and I could not get the part so had to buy a new one. Magimix still have parts for their original series from more than 20 years ago.

Modric...he's in form and has been around the net more lately. Tottenham are THE team right now...you got VDV because of his scoring potential, but more importantly because Tottenham are in form...why not pick up the guy who will be picking up the slack for VDV while he's gone? I know he's not a fantasy darling, but I've never seen him as hungry for goal

I'm more inclined to think that Defoe will poach more of Bale's crosses.

Modric is looking a handy option alright and not many managers have him. I wonder with Defoe and Pav incapable of slotting a penalty and VDV injured will he take pen duties now? I seem to remember him taking them when he first arrived at Spurs.

            It's just you.
They just beat Arsenal, Bremen and Liverpool in a week.
Kaboulsh1t getting injured is a blessing, Bassong is better.
VDV is a blow but means Bale and Modric should have a far greater output.
I'd be more worried about injuries forcing them to play Palacios but that's only if you have a Spurs defender which is rarely a good idea anyways.

Did you see Guardiola allegedly get two subtle digs in on Mourinho? 1: He said he doesn't want to manage Chelsea (i.e Who would?) 2: He wants to take over from SAF which is publicly putting himself in line for the job Jose wants. Man's a genius! Gill Gill sign him up.

          Neither.

Jose is a defensive coach entriched in the idea of having only older international players and a huge budget to work with.
He has no pedigree of either coaching / improving young players and of having faith to allow them to learn by playing them.
He also plays a brand of football that is alien to United.
He is a massive no no for me .

Guardiola is Barca through and through having spent nearly 3 decades there. He lives and breathes under their mindset and has no experience elsewhere working under different type of players or systems etc.
He is brillant with them as he is born to work within that set up.
Its obvious he too would not be as successful outside of Nou Camp. So giving him his next job at OT for me would be a massive risk.

No team will be able to play like this Barca team no matter how long they try under Guardiola. It took Barca 25 years to get it working.

You wouldn't find Pep hiding in a laundry basket in a CL match. Or criticising the (totally blameless) Reading ambulance service after Cech's bang on the head. Or sending teams out with the express instructions to dive and cheat (his time at Porto).

I quite like Mourinho for all the drama, but really, he's a bit of a cnut.

Ha, UEFA have given Mourinho a one game touchline ban for his role in the Ramos + Alonso sending offs... Only it's for the Auxerre game which I he won't give a shit about.

Mourinho: fined €40,000 and one game touchline ban.
    Ramos + Alonso: fined €20,000
    Casillas: fined €10,000
    Dudek: fined €5,000

no i meant for punishing them, they didn't break any rules and just pointed out how stupid the yellow card rules are for carrying into the next round. they earned their commanding position in the group by winning it with a game to spare, so they made a smart tactical move and i would have done the same if in that position. it's not like they tried to hurt or fouled anyone to earn a yellow, they did it in the least offensive way possible.
