Sign up for latest FFScout Charity Cup on July 28

The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup is now less than three weeks away and already around 40 players have signed up to play. But we want more of you!

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held in the morning of Sunday 28 July 2019 at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked heremeeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

    Hi guys 🙂 I'm between 2 drafts atm so wondering if y'all could tell me which one is better and how to improve it...

    Team A:

    Gunn - Button

    Robertson - TAA - Digne - Laporte - Adam Smith

    Salah - Sterling - Siggy - Tielemans - Dendoncker

    King - Wesley - Xande Silva

    Team B:

    Gunn - Button

    Coleman - TAA - Laporte - Kelly - Rico

    Salah - Sterling - Siggy - Tielemans - Dendoncker

    King - Vardy - Origi

    Any advice would be much appreciated 😀

      Team A is the closest I've seen on here to my team:

      Ryan; Robbo, TAA, Digne, Coleman; Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Brooks, Yarmo; King

      Button; Wesley; Kelly; Greenwood

    A)
    Ryan (Button)
    Taa Vvd Laporte DIGNE AZPILICUETA
    SALAH STERLING Siggy Zaha (Dendoncker)
    KING (Wickham, Greenwood)

    B)

    Liking these tweaks even more. What say ye? I know the bench sucks.

    Vardy / Wilson / King

      First El Ghazi I’ve seen! Wilson+King is ballsy but could be huge in the first two games, do you have an exit strategy there for a later time? Not sure where your budget has gone too, I’m thinking Wilson eats up a lot of it and I’m not sure if its justified

        Exit strategy? Take as many hits as required. Hoping to make a bit of cash from imminent price rises over first 3

          Could work then, I don’t know if I’m willing to put so many eggs into Bournemouth’s basket with how weirdly inconsistent they are, but first two games could have a lot of price rises. I think Adam Smith could be 4.7 by GW 3

    Vardy being heavily overlooked. Got 1 more season left in his absolute peak for me, underlying stats suggest he’s a man on a mission. Leicester buying players to give him incredible service, can score against any club, now playing in an attacking side under Rodgers. Massive season for him

      I don't think he's being overlooked, people know how good he is but don't wanna give up what they can do to rest of their team with a 6.5 instead. Personally, I have Vardy, he was great at the end of last season after I put him in before the blanks, is also on pens and should get amazing service with Maddison and Tielemans supplying. ALSO he has a history of scoring well against the big teams so is almost fixture proof.

        Have a feeling this Leicster team is going to do pretty well this year.

        Will be interesting to see Perez's role.
        If hes playing up top in a 442 or No 10 then I think its a problem for Maddison.
        Although if Perez is pushed out wide then Maddison is the better option.

    I also notice a lot managers with Yarmalenko. However, if they keep playing 433/4231 then that means there is Lanzini, Yarmalenko, Antonio and Fanderson all going for 2 or 3 spots (depending on the formation) and 1 for the striker, which is currently Hernandez but they will buy somebody else because WHU love buying strikers. My guess is, there is a reason he is the cheapest of the bunch and that is because he isn't expected to play a lot.

      He might be eased back in during pre season and early games but I expect him to be playing regular come September/October with in all likelihood Antonio missing out or at least sharing minutes as Lanzini/Yarma rarely play 90...

      Antonio will miss out.
      When Pellegrini first came to the club the reason Antonio wasn't getting starts is because his passing isn't at the standard expected from Pellegrini, however due to injuries etc Antonio got his chances and I think he has grown on Pellegrini.

      With that being said expect a line up of;

      Yarmolenko - Lanzini - Anderson
      ----------- HALLER? ------------------

      You also have to consider Pablo Fornals, had a blinding U21 tournament and there is talk of Lanzini to leave still (so could be rotated - especially seeing Lanzini's lack of game time in comparison to Fornals being in form). Little Pea was told he can leave (regardless that he now has the #9 shirt). If we don't sign another proper striker I can see Yarmo being deployed up top with Antonio taking his slot on the wing.

      Happy to answer anything else 🙂

        So you’d say Yarmolenko is a steal at 6.0 then? Pellegrini, WHM’s fixtures, maybe OOP?

        I saw him play a lot before the PL and I liked him a lot, how has he fared for WHM when he played?

        1. Carlton_Goal

          He's definitely underpriced at 6.0, he's going in my team GW1. Think there is little chance of him being OOP though, think he will definitely be used as a winger

            • 8 Years

            I assumed he was 7.0 so seeing that he’s 6.0 has me very tempted, that’s a great price for a starting winger in a team of that quality and he’s also an amazing player himself

              Agreed, I think his and Antonio's prices should be the other way around really. The early fixtures are great too if you ignore the City game in GW1

          For sure. Anderson is in my team primarily because I believe out of the attackers he is the first name on the teamsheet right now (given Yarmo's recovery).

          Next questions;
          Yes I think he could be a steal should he remain fit. The games he played last season he was great for us. I think the reason he was priced at 6.0 was even though he showed promise there was not enough "data" to justify pricing him at 7.0 whereas Antonio has proved over a couple of seasons now he can pick up goals and assists.

          WH fans are buzzing for him to be back. Unlike Carlton below I agree with you and think (if we don't get another striker) he could be OOP (as opposed to Anderson) with Antonio maybe playing on the wing (not sure what Fornals is like out wide).

            Cheers mate. I will monitor him over pre-season and make a decision. I would choose Fnaderson who I had 1st half of last season but then sold when he went a bit shite 2nd half. What do you think the reasons were for that shift in form?

      He should be first choice. Lanzini isn't a winger, Anderson will play on the left so he is only competing with Antonio and Diangana for the RW slot. If he looks as good in preseason as he did last season its his spot to lose

              Think thats harsh on him. Hes a player that needs his wishes catered to to a pretty large extent for him to shine which is a negative trait for sure. But given the freedom to play attacking under Ole and if given assurances he can leave if he puts in another good season, I can see him playing well and be professional.

    Not sure why everyone isn't bang on Tielemans?

    Tielemans; ---------------------------- Maddison; ------------------------------ Perez;
    Mins Played: 1087 ------------------- Mins Played: 2831 ------------------- Mins Played: 2916
    Goals Scored: 3 ---------------------- Goals Scored: 7 ---------------------- Goals Scored: 12
    Assists: 5 ------------------------------- Assists: 7 ------------------------------ Assists: 2

    If we times Tielemans stats by 2.5 (brings his minutes played to 2717 more or less level with Maddison/Perez) he would've hit; 7.5 goals and 12.5 assists. If we call it 7 goals and 13 assists for averages his value far outweighs Maddison. In regards to Perez, as someone who was relied heavily on for goals at Newcastle, that may not be the case at Leicester and his position might be just a touch further back. Even still;

    Perez; 12 x 5 + 2 x 3 = 66 points
    Tielemans; 7 x 5 + 13 x 3 = 74 points

    Thoughts? Have I changed anyones mind?

        Belgian Pro League (Anderlecht);

        Goals: 25
        Assists: 20
        Returns: Involved in 45 goals in 110 games

        Belgian National Team;
        Played: 12

        Total;

        Goals: 34
        Assists: 30
        Returns: Involved in 64 goals in 182 games*

        *Whether a start or sub is unknown for the 182 games. Not bad for someone who turned 22 just 2 months ago. He is only going to get better IMO. Was disappointed when Monaco picked him up as I think he's so much better than that (or has the potential to be).

        I don't believe he is "over performing" at all. I think he will only get better under BR as well. I'm not a huge fan of all this xI, xG anyways but understand everyone has their own preferences.

      Tielemans has been overperforming his stats and his reputation tbh, I’m amused at the interest people have in him

      Never was a big scorer/assister before Leicester and I struggle to believe he’s gonna sustain it

      Would be a steal at 6.5 if he does though, the only reason I’m mildly considering him

        In regards to comparing Newcastle and Leicester stats it may "water down accuracy" but I feel he was the primary out and out striker last season (for a "lesser" side) but this season is playing for a "better" side but won't be the out and out striker/focal point so it balances out in that regard.

        It's the one area that I feel is missing but having plenty of City defence mitigates that. I think Aguero will be rotated with Jesus more this season. Finding the funds to afford Sterling weakens the rest of the squad far too much. Salah is more consistent so I'd be content giving him the armband nearly every week. Buying B Silva is a case of getting a player in because of his club rather than their merits as an individual. As for KDB, well, we'll see if he's back to anything like his best. If he is, he's one that I would find a way to draft in.

    Matt Targett 4.5 best budget defender? Villa have good opening fixtures.

          Buying players. OK still rumours but each day I hear a player linked with them.

            I understand it looks that way, but without strengthening we'll be straight back down.

              So what, exactly like Fulham? Up until Fulham spunked loads of money near the deadline, their window was basically exactly the same as yours has been so far. That said, it looks like you guys are more "in control", so i don't think you'll be the same kind of car crash they were.

                Just because we're spending money, why compare it to Fulham, and why not Wolves who spent similar amounts but did it properly?

                  Tbf probably because Wolves "cheated" by using Mendes. Getting the likes of Neves and Jota for below market value - incredibly rated youngsters - is not something that you guys have done. You also haven't done any loan signings like Otto, Dendoncker, or Jiminez. That said, I think you guys are doing the right thing, just pointing out that it's not that different to what Fulham did.

                    We are getting our business done earlier than Fulham though, which IMO, makes a difference. Realistically, its going to be a hard season, but I do think they'll be 3 worse teams than us.

              I have always had a soft spot for Villa and hope you get Heaton. Targett is decidedly average but you never know. Fulham went bananas. I don't want Villa to do the same after the miracle of promotion.
              Talking about Fulham; there must be some pickings there?

                A few of the signings so far were key players for us last season tho, the likes of Mings and El Ghazi, and to a lesser extent Hause, so although they're new signings, they're not really if you know what I mean? We've also lost Abraham and Tuanzebe, so you can see why the Wesley and Konsa moves make sense, but time will tell!

                Re JT - yep he's our Assistant Manager.

                    Same to you! Hopefully you'll have a good season. By the way, do you know if Gueye will miss the first few games, due to his AFCON involvement?

    Leaning towards Kane & Kdb over Sterling & 8.5(prob siggy), is that madness?

    I see Sterling in so many teams.

    Would leave me with Kane & Salah as Capt choices

      I prefer Auba but he does not rotate with Salah.
      You will C Salah most of the time anyway so big bucks on a backup?

        Not so much a back up capt, its just he is there as a choice.

        I see Sterling in 95% of the drafts, and just have a feeling that Kane and 1itb could be a nicer option

      Would prefer Sterling to Aguero myself, but understand wanting a proper premium ST.
      Downgrade one of TAA / Robbo to VVD to free up funds to do Coleman to Digne?
