Just the same post I was thinking of. Kane or KDB after today's game.

KDB looked good today but is it a risk going no spurs? Still undecided

To make a Liverpool cleanie worth it you need to double up and Moura is a transfer waiting to happen when Son comes back

Are either of these worth it?

Punting on Moura and then getting a Chelsea or United mid in gw 2.

Punting on deeney and then getting haller or kean in gw 2.

For GW1? Yes almost as sure as Kane will start, he's been one of their best players in pre-season and Alli and Son are out.

Out of interest make a team without Salah or Sterling.... realise that you have 11 quality players with no obvious weak link.
Make a team with Salah and Sterling... realise that the rest of your team is unbalanced and weak.

I'm now thinking the real 'punt' is ploughing £24.5m in to just two players.

A few things from me that I'll probably talk about in more detail on the Scoutcast (and on something new that Luka a.k.a D1sable and I are in talks about...). Just some of my early observations!

    1) KDB seems an easy 200+ pointer if he stays fit. Looks sharp and hungry after nearly a year out. Great price at 9.5 too.

    2) Gross looks like he may be a bit part player this year, with Potter trying different formations. The more flexible players will surely start, which means Locadia and Trossard could be shrewd picks. Montoya at Wing Back could be tasty too.

    3) Ceballos at 5.5 looks a steal as long as he gets minutes. May be the next Rambo, or may play at number 10. There's a few options in his price range too, so not the end of the world if he doesn't start the first couple - just move him out.

    4) I'm favouring 6 / 6.5 forwards over 6 mil defenders. a 6 mil forward (like Wesley) and a 4.5 defender means your team is much more flexible, and will be able to cope better with any squad suprises (Bench wise) than if you had a 6 defender and a non-playing 4.5 attacker.

    5) No more than 3 'real' punts. Likely to go with Ceballos, Montoya and Wesley. The rest will be tried and tested PL players who have done well and decent seasons and I think have the potential to do well again.

    6) You only really need two strong captaincy picks. Breaking your team to get in 3 of Salah, Sterling, Kane, Aubameyang and even Vardy just makes your team so imbalanced. You can't captain them all! But good to have options. Need to pick your premiums and stick with them IMO.

    7) Leicester are going to have a banging season with or without Maguire. Will certainly challenge the top 6.

    8) Arsenal are showing no signs of signing a centre back or sorting their defence out and I'll be happy to play attacking players against them. They are going to have to score a LOT of goals to win games, which makes their attackers even more attractive.

    9) If you're wondering if a player is first choice... don't pick him. Zinchenko seems a transfer waiting to happen, but at least there are options at his price point. Don't take the risk with 4.5 / 5 million defenders as you don't want to have to use a transfer taking them out

    10) Plenty of decent 4.5 goalkeepers! Save your cash and go for Pope / Ryan / Heaton or Henderson.

Really like all the points you’ve made and certainly has me thinking a little.

I have Locadia in my team at present (my only real punt) do you think he’s a better bet than Murray? I know Murray has pens but for 0.5m cheaper Locadia seems favoured to play. What’s your thoughts on him?

I reckon he starts the season - certainly a risk, and may end up on the wing, but had a good pre season...
Just thing Potter is favouring flexibility. Players like Murray and Gross can only really play one way, which really dents their appeal this season.

      6.

Major drawback of sticking with two premiums is you lose prime captain weeks. The same two teams won’t always get the best captain options.

This also opens up idea of temporarily unbalancing team with 3 premiums to get right captain options over a run of weeks. One will get transferred out to rebalance the team but may have sufficient lily hoid nin-captain weeks to justify early selection. Case in point is Auba in weeks 1 and 2. Best captain in 2 and good fixture in 1

My, you have some work to do. They are some crazy punts on there. One I wouldn't say is so crazy certainly for a short-term punt is Joelinton; looked good pre-season and coming up against a suspect Arsenal defence in GW1 and newly promoted Norwich the next GW.

      1. GrumblyBlowfish
        • 10 Years

Who do you consider punts other than Joelinton? I thought the rest were pretty nailed tbh but I haven’t been paying as much attention to pre season this year

Hanley, to a lesser extent Longstaff. Leicester have tricky opening fixtures so the Schmeichel pick could see you pick up less clean sheets than you'd want.

Is Wood worth a punt or not given the fixtures? What are people's thoughts?

I like his GW1 fixture but it also feels like I'm being trapped into focusing too much on GW1 so currently not on my draft.

I was thinking the same thing initially but can't actually be sure if Arsenal, even if away, is a terrible fixture for a striker.

    Good to go?

    Ryan
    Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Digne
    Salah, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Perez
    Wilson, Jota, Gray

    Button; Rico, Dendoncker, Lundstram.

Andre Gray is a short term punt. May even switch to Wesley as early as GW2. I know Deulofeu may be fit but still think Gray will start after 4 goals from 4 games in preseason.

      Good team.

I’d go Pope instead or Ryan though, and not sure on Gray. I’m actually putting on Wesley from the start, but there are a few options round that price so good to see what pans out.

    A or B?

    A) Ake (starting?) & Lundstram (bench)
    B) Cathcart/Dunkk (rotating)

Did Pep say anything after the game about Sanè?

Will Pepe start immediately for Arsenal?

Pepe hasn't played yet so I doubt he starts. May get a runout as sub but I expect he makes his debut at home to Burnley

Thanks WR. I had Sanè in my draft but now I am liking at swapping. Unsure if I should just swap directly to KDB or downgrade to Moura/Ozil/Martial.

Is Redmond a viable choice this season? He was a key player last season, being involved in about a 3rd of Southampton's goals since Hasenhuttle was appointed, but Redmond has only gotten a solitary assist this preseason. Instead, Ings and Adams have been the form players during preseason

Low. cold be useful off the bench though.
Won't be much use gw2 against a deep Burnley either tbh.
I'd wait and see although he could be THE bandwagon if he starts well.

    RMT please
    Pope
    Doherty, Coleman, Fredericks
    Salah, Sterling, Son, Perez
    Rashford, Abraham, King
    Heaton; Lundstram, Hanley, Hayden
Trying to to pick only one player from each club because I'm a bit different but I like it...
Also who to have instead of HMS first 2 weeks? Cheers.

What are people's thoughts on Barkley now that he didn't start the last game of the preseason? To start GW1 or a risk?

        He will start against MU.
He's great value at 6m if he's nailed, only Leicester and West Ham mids competing in price that bracket.

This, but I have him benched for GW1. Long term could be a value pick

Sterling is a great FPL player, however I can't help but feel between him and Salah the vast majority of the RMTs I see on here are basically the same except the occasional few punts or formation switch.

It makes sense to have him, it is the safer option that will probably lead to a decent rank somewhere about 100k+. To me however, this is almost too 'safe' and boring (I know, 'safe' and 'boring' choices are usually what leads to a higher rank).

I also know the FFS community is a relatively small slice out of the overall number of players, so there's that too. I'm not saying everyone needs to go out and buy Pepe like a maverick or a load of differentials, but too much of the feedback here seems to be pushing people towards the standard template.

      A) Laporte + Greenwood (benched)

      B) Stones + Greenwood (benched) + 1m for flexibility

      C) KWP + Ings (to be rotated/provide a bit more depth)

      Team as a whole:
      Ryan Button
      TAA VVD Coleman XX Lundstram
      Salah Sterling Moura Perez Dendonker
      Wilson King XX

With glass Alli out, imo as per usual for his hammy's he'll be out a few weeks.

Moura should play first 3, if not 4 lad

Fraser, Barkley? Can't choose between them tbh so might as well go with the cheapest, then the most nailed of the other two. I'm not usually much help... haha

Evening chaps. Could you RMT please?
      (5-3-2, early WC planned)

      Heaton - (4.0))
      Van Dijk - Digne - Walker-Peters - Duffy - Taylor
      Salah - Sterling - Lucas Moura - (4.5) - (4.5)
      Aubameyang - Wilson - (4.5)

        I assume that's Charlie Taylor?
Not a massive fan long term but if you a set on a gw3ish WC then it looks ok.
Would rather set it up for a 3 transfer 4pt hit kinda vibe on gw3 and save the WC though tbh
