FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 9

Fantasy Premier League managers have had longer than usual to prepare for the next Gameweek.

We are just emerging from the latest international break of the campaign but that does not mean our dilemmas are any simpler.

Managers are considering selling their Liverpool assets, Manchester City are perhaps as hard to predict as ever before and we are in need of some answers.

We have put together another panel of managers to help provide some for you this week…

Who’s on the panel this week?

Hindu Monkey – Longtime Scout poster with a brutal blog to boot, HM has delivered an excellent insight throughout his FPL career. His best finish in a fantastic 11-year history was an excellent 2932nd and rose to recent Twitter-fame for his founding of the Barnes Train™ movement.

Gregor – Part of the moderator team, Gregor has an enviable FPL history with three top 1k finishes and a further three top 10k finishes, with a best of 29th in the world in 2016/17.

G-Whizz – Also part of the moderator team, currently in his fifth FPL season, G-Whizz managed a personal best finish of 4,404 in 2018/19.

Neale Rigg – Esteemed deputy editor of Fantasy Football Scout and recent survivor of Hackgate. Despite that setback, Neale remains second in the FFS Mods and Cons league, sat at 47k worldwide, and potentially on course to record a fourth career top 10k finish.

Game kicked off just now. Will go to bed in Korea after the game (assumption 1) and get on a flight tomorrow at the earliest (assumption 2). Flight time is about 11 hours so can't see how he would be back until early hours on Thursday.

Mentioned it on previous page, but you're forgetting he's flying back in time. So he will get on the plane tonight (our time). He'll be back by Wednesday.

Falls on whether or not he gets on a flight straight after the game or stays in Korea a night before catching a flight.

No it doesn't. The match ends in 45mins. He can stay the night and he'd still be flying at 8pm BST.

Guys, I don't want to be the broken record... But why is there not more hype about Alisson's confirmed return for Sunday?

This has the potential to be huge FPL news

If we have TAA & Robbo back delivering at last season's rates again there are going to be a lot of major surgeries required to afford them

Plan a route early is my advice... two beautiful fixtures back to back for Liverpool coming up in GW9/10 too...

No guarantees though obviously, but you'd have to fancy a defensive uptick with that much of a GK upgrade

I've seen nothing in recent weeks to suggest their next two fixtures are anything but 'easy'

There's always a chance that utd or spurs could get lucky... But I don't think planning for opposition teams getting lucky would really work in the long term

On current form - Liverpool are annihilating both sides comfortably

Also utd are one of the most toothless sides in world football at the minute... And spurs couldn't score against Brighton (!)

Don't underestimate big 6 teams. They setup differently against other top opposition. It's very rare to have a match between top 6 teams be a slaughter.

"2 beautiful fixtures", no matter what state utd and spurs are in, I wouldn't class them as beautiful fixtures..
Utds last 2 home games, leicester and arsenal, 1 goal conceded.
Yea they are shite relatively speaking, but I don't think it will be a walk over, and they could sneak a goal.
If you confident go for the pool triple up in defence!

Playing a defence that just shipped 10 goals in 2 games?

One of which was against Brighton?

Whose players are involved in dressing room bust ups splitting the group down the middle?

Whose manager is subject to massive because of same?

        Theyre beautiful 🙂

But as I said, spurs could get lucky - but probably best not to plan for luck as its quite unpredictable

    11. Eze Really?
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 5 months ago

I can never bring myself to spend big on a keeper. It is about the extra 1.5 I have without him, not taking up Pool space. So his impact is the key. Has Adrian, after settling down, been that bad he affects the Pool defense? I think it more about VVD not at his peak, Matip getting Gomez spot.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 14 Years
        4 years, 5 months ago

Yeah the FPL benefit is much more for TAA, Robbo & VVD - who have been doing their best to cover for Adrian to date

Alison is world class, probably THE best GK in the world... Adrian couldn't make the first team at West ham

I think on the eye test it's clear that Adrian is way below the expected standard of a top 4 keeper, let alone a champions league /league contenderMaking saves is actually not the difficult part of finding a keeper, there are any number of great shot stoppers out there...

What separates the elite GKs is their presence, the communication, the organisation etcFor my money, he's nowhere near as good at organising as Alison, has nowhere near the same presence, and I think there's a lot more of the quality players in front of him making him look better than he is, rather than him being a top GK

Id wager VVD would have been nowhere near euro player of the year either had he had Adrian behind him for a season, and with Allison back that recent shakiness *should* quickly disappear, all things being equal

Playingly solidly for the rest of the season will result in a strong rank.

Playing whackily could work... But could easily leave you much worse off than making standard, solid decisions over 30GWs.

My hardest GW captain choice so far:

    A) Sterling
    B) KDB
    C) Wilson
    D) Tammy
    E) Salah

My gut still says Sterling but after captaining him 5/8 GW's maybe its time to shake it up. For me its really between A/B or C? Can't decide.

That's what I'm thinking, plus Wilson's been scoring points and not playing amazingly. Hoping he'll get the hattrick and stake his claim as genuine fpl assest and go on to get over 200 points this year.

Highest value player in the game this season. He's basically a midfielder with his chances created and set pieces for the best team in the league that costs less than 7.5m.

Liverpool are stronger defensively than the first 8 weeks suggest. Now Alisson is back, he'll get those CS points as well.

Just listen on this one. I'm not sure on many things, but TAA being a good pick this season is something I am sure on.

Ah Max, my nemesis with the Mount story.
All I can say is I agree. However, I am talking about FPL points. Alison is a class act but when I have watched Adrian, I saw a massive improvement from game to game. All of us would love to know how many more clean sheets Alison would contribute to.
As far as VVD is concerned, his mistakes (only a few) have had no bearing on the keeper as far as I can see.
Alison's contribution as far as confidence is concerned cannot be measured but i agree he has an impact.
At the hammers, Adrian did not shape but apart from his introduction has he cost Pool goals?
Perriera has had far more difficult fixtures has scored the same with similar minutes.

That's a very differential one, I like it..
Maybe upgrade your Cantwell to Madison as long as you haven't got any Vardy

      1. Eze Really?

No Vardy as you can see. A little concerned about his antics during the int break.

Not him so much but it will his bosses. I have read he has a special clause in his contract for misbehavior.
It is ironic the 2 players who do something different and could play for England are the way they are. (Alli)
Having said that I would still have Gazza in my side whatever.

    Haller to Jimenez?

Reasoning: Jimenez is cheaper, is picking up form and has an added chance of points with pens.

    Thoughts? Cheers.
