This Gameweek has proven to be a big headache for the Scout Committee team, and with a limited pool of talent to choose from, we’ve had to dig deep to fish out three worthy “Differential” selections for you. We’ve ended up with an Austrian, a Spaniard and a Serb. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…

Andreas Weimann

Aston Villa have arguably the toughest fixture of any of the teams playing this weekend with a trip to Old Trafford on the agenda but we’re thinking ahead here, boxing clever. While returns are likely to be limited on Sunday afternoon, Weimann should be considered as a worthy option – Villa’s double Gameweek 35 means they play three times when every other team plays just once or twice, introducing an interesting strategy for navigating the next three Gameweeks. The paradox of fielding a full XI this week is that you end up with less players with a double Gameweek 36, but by using players from Bolton and Aston Villa, you can boost the number of matches in Gameweek 35 and gain an extra fixture without taking a points hit.

Obviously this strategy only comes good if Weimann plays every game and in that respect, it’s a risky choice. All the signs stack up in the Austrian’s favour however; he managed his first 90 minute run out last time out and Alex Mcleish has been raving about him in the press following his wonder goal against Stoke. Villa look all but safe from relegation and have little left to play for and, considering his main rival in the side – Emile Heskey – is unlikely to earn a new contract in the summer, you’d have to bet on the youngster getting his chance over the remaining games.

Fixtures and rotation risks aside, Weimann looks a real prospect. That’s two goals in the last five Gameweeks now, which is already more than Heskey has managed all season. Priced at 5.0 he can fit any budget, and with less than 1000 owners at the time of writing, he is currently a proud member of the 0.0% club. With United likely to be jittery following the Wigan defeat, the young Austrian’s fearless approach may just trouble them.

Aleksandar Kolarov

While Weimann is a pick that could come good once the Gameweek has passed, Aleksandar Kolarov is the opposite – a potential one-hit wonder who could possibly pay off big this weekend for those willing to take the punt. The Serbian is notorious around these parts for letting us down when we throw his name into the ring, so this one comes with a health warning. Even so, if Roberto Mancini chooses to rotate Gael Clichy and hand Kolarov an outing at Carrow Road, the formbook says he’ll make an impact.

Kolarov has notched a goal and three assists in his last two league starts – admittedly they were home matches but, in a Gameweek where clean sheets could be a scarcity, Kolarov has attacking potential that few defenders can rival based on form over recent outings. With just 0.8% ownership, if you take temporary membership to the Kolorov fan club (Mark is still the chairman, secretary and treasurer) then it could pay dividends at a time when gambles could be the order of the day.

Mikel Arteta

While Theo Walcott hoovers up transfers, his Spanish team-mate has quietly and efficiently blinked on the radar of late thanks to some outstanding home form. Two goals in his last two Emirates encounters, with maximum bonus thrown in, bodes well for Arteta. He has also amassed his most impressive performances stats over the past four Gameweeks – our members can dip and see for themselves how he compares to the field right now. In a nutshell, then, Arteta is in his best form of the season, just in time for luckless Wigan to arrive in his backyard.

The smart money will be on Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott to help themselves to further attacking returns but playmaker Arteta, with just 4.8% ownership, looks an ideal option for those seeking something a little different, with form to back it up.

Looking to next week and consider how to bring Dempsey back.

    Valencia - Siggy - Bale - Walcott - Sessegnon

Price & fixture wise, Walcott looks like the perfect replacement. However, I'm now wondering if Valencia might be better option.. It, btw, will need a hit to re-allocate budget to support this move... Umm.

Siggy is automatic starter for his away game vs Bolton..
Dempsey should start if I got him..
One of Valencia or Walcott, who stay will start..

Bale away to QPR and Sessegnon away to AVL should be a candidate for bench. Both have poor away form.

Only 0.1m in bank. I will need to find 1.3m to do Valencia > Dempsey and it will be a hit. Don't wanna part company with one of Rooney or Vermaelen yet, but they could be the one who leave.

I'd play it in GW36 yeah. TOT/EVE/STO have good GW37/38 fixtures. Just make sure you keep RVP, JEvans and then load up the rest with DGWers imo (something like 3 TOT, 2 EVE, 2 CHE, 2 NEW, 1 STO, 1 FUL, 1 LIV, 1 BOL)

It's an odd one this, points on the bench. While it is depressing to end up with lots of points on the bench, surely it is better to have a Dempsey say with 10 points on the bench than a Surman with 2. Either way you don't get any points, but if anyone had happened not to have played you'd suddenly get 10 for Demps rather than 2, and also you have a better option for other gameweeks. Also if all players in one's squad are getting points (including benched ones) their prices are more likely to be heading up than down.

It's odd how psychologically we hate these bench points so much. One just has to think of them somehow as not part of one's team that week (unless they get auto-subbed obv.).

A cheapie on the bench allows for more expensive players elsewhere too. You right in what you say but for a one off GW (GW35) its something that needs to be taken into consideration when planning the GW34/36 thing

Oh indeed - a cheapie can definitely be useful option. But I was just interested in how bad it can feel to have points on one's bench. (True for me too, despite it not really being any worse than a player one doesn't own doing well).

    Good evening everyone.

Just working out the GW34 and 36 dilemma. i just cant plan for GW36 without knowing who will be in the FA Cup finals. There are too many variables to consider with respect to rotation that week.

TOTT - On paper, having 3 Tott players (Bale, Ade/VDV & Def/GK) seems like a no brainer. Their games before, including and after DGW are certainally delicious. However, what if they win this weekend? Surely rotation risks for the Bol match in GW36.

Liverpool - is also interesting (decent fixtures)...but there starting XI mid week 33 was totally out of the ordinary, if that is an idication of their sqaud for the FUL match i would have a hard time selecting pool players

CHE - IThe only team with 2 home fixtures in DGW. If they win Sunday, it is extreemly difficult to pick anyone from their squad especially with CL matches thrown in the mix.

EVE - If they win, they will have similar rotation problems as per LIV above.

My thought.....Get your Best XI out for GW34 and deal with 36 as it comes (7 or 8 DGW players). 36 might not be as lucrative as some people think!. Am I making sense?

That being said.....im think im going to do Bale > Sess. What do you think?
Sorry for the long post (as i was writting it kept getting Longer and longer)

I really think that Rooney will have a huge day after United was embarrased at WIG.

IMO....this is the toughest (C) decision in weeks. I think that my rival will (c) Rooney as he is trying to make up 40 pts. I might just try and match him.

With everyone (in the top 10,000) having a similar team this GW.....(c) will be the differential.

that is true amigo. Gotta stick with rvp tho bud. Just pick who you think will score the most. Dont try to match opponents, it will haunt you in the end!

I think its important to save a transfer if you can. This gives you the chance to have an extra DGW player

you make a good point. however, what if TOT and LIV win this weekend. TOT, LIV & CHE will then be huge rotation risks for the second leg of the DGW.

Therefore, you would probably be forced in selecting more players from EVE (not like they will score 4 goals like in gw33), NEW (2 away games) , FUL (2 away games), BOL (????)

        It is a tough call.

      Good summary, CF.

About the Che/Tot/Eve rotation, their fixtures for the last 3 games are prolly the best in the league, even if the players start 3 out of 4 games in the last 3 GWs. So I don't get why people are refraining from them. Also, Che & Tot will still have something to play for as we enter that week, so can't see excessive rotation.

That being said, if you can find a player who is expected to start all 4 games, then he's a no-brainer.

Good point about picking players from teams with somthing to play for at the end.

Do you reckon that mid table teams and those who have locked of a CL spot are more subject to rotation?

      And have already done Bale>Sess
I am gonna deal with week 36 when it happens.

I completely agree about uncertainties to happen from the cup results. It's better save our brain for thinking after today game and more thinking after tomorrow game.. There will be a lot rotations for whoever get into the final.

Btw, I'm more likely to agree with anyone to bring in the player who play Wolves.. 🙂

25 pts behind 1st and he'll have 11 players this GW vs my 8.

Do I hang on and try and go after him in the DGWs or do I take hits this GW to try and make ground?
Also, is it worth taking hits in the DGWs to have a full XI of DGWers?

Made a mistake with my last one.

What combo scores better over GW34-35?

    a) Verm + Sess + 4 or FT.
    b) Cuellar + Sess(GW33) + Cisse(GW34)

I assume you mean Sess(34) and Cisse(35) in b. It's a tight one. My suspicion is b will do better. Effectively it's:

      a) Verm (WIG, CHE) + Sess (avl) + 4
      vs
      b) Cuellar (mun, SUN, BOL) + Cisse (STO)

Hmm, still tough to call. Probably b, but I'm by no means convinced of that.

Please, please, please, can you post another time asking us to join your league? I think maybe if I see it for the thirtieth time, it might be enough to persuade me. Really, I'm pretty sure. OK, maybe thirty-three.... Cheers!

Simpson is my 2nd best defender next week.

Verm has the most potential. Simpson 6 max, Caulker 9 I guess.

Hey everyone, would really appreciate some advice with my team. A bit confused by this round and the DGW situation. My team looks like this – and I have 0 in the bank and no free transfers.

    Vorm (Mignolet)
    Kompany, BAE, JEvans (Simpson, Cahill)
Walcott, Valencia, Moses (Bale, Ben Arfa)
    RVP (C), Rooney (P. Cisse)

Because I have 0 in the bank, anyone I transfer out I won't be able to get back in for the DGW because I will have lost value on them.

Are there any subs in there worth making for a 4 point hit, keeping in mind the upcoming DGW? Or just sit tight? Was thinking Bale > Sess could be wise but I won't be able to get him back. Ah! Ideas?

IMO….this is the toughest and most important armband decision in weeks.

With everyone (in the top 10,000) having a similar team this GW…..(c) will be the major differential.

    Who is your choice?

Think about it this way, Any United player can score: Welbeck, Chica, Rooney, Valencia, Young, etc.

If Arsenal score, there`s a 66% chance RVP will be involved. 😉
