Mane, Abraham and Vardy injury updates ahead of FA Cup fourth round weekend

The Premier League takes a brief hiatus this weekend as the fourth round of the FA Cup takes centre stage.

Fourteen top-flight clubs remain in the competition and most of the Premier League managers whose sides are still involved delivered press conferences on Thursday or Friday.

There were some key injury updates, too.

Sadio Mane came off after just half an hour of Liverpool’s first Double Gameweek 24 match on Thursday evening and the legions of Fantasy managers who own the Senegalese midfielder would have been hoping for positive words from Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss delivered neither good nor bad news, however, saying only:

I think he’s, in this moment, in his scan.

On Liverpool’s other absentees, Klopp added:

Dejan trained completely normal. I think for Shaq and Milly it’s too early. Naby we will have to see, my information is that he will be part of training today. It was not too long [out].

We had more helpful updates from Brendan Rodgers and Frank Lampard on Jamie Vardy and Tammy Abraham, at least, with those two players’ injuries not as bad as first feared.

Vardy, indeed, looks to stand a good chance of being involved in Gameweek 25.

Rodgers said on Friday:

Not as serious as what we thought. We’re hopeful for Tuesday [v Villa in the EFL Cup] but a little bit of work to do over the course of the next few days.

He was much better directly after the game. He was tight and sore and struggling to move, but today was much, much better, moving around. We’re hopeful he’ll be involved [on Tuesday].

Abraham is less certain to be involved in that clash at the King Power Stadium a week on Saturday, however, with Lampard saying:

The good news is he hasn’t fractured anything.

We still have to see how he develops, it’s not a clear-cut one. He’s not fit for the weekend, whether he’ll be fit for Leicester after that I’m still not sure.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Leroy Sane (knee) is Manchester City’s only absentee for the FA Cup tie against Fulham, meanwhile.

Todd Cantwell (glute/hamstring) has joined Emi Buendia (thigh), Ben Godfrey (suspension) and Timm Klose (knee) on the sidelines ahead of Norwich’s trip to Burnley, while Kenny McLean (hip) and Ibrahim Amadou (knee) are both doubts.

Ralf Fährmann (knee) and Mario Vrancic (shin) are back in training and set to travel.

Phil Bardsley (back) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) are doubts for the Clarets and Ashley Barnes (hernia) remains sidelined.

Victor Lindelof (illness) is back in training ahead of Manchester United’s match against Tranmere, while Eddie Howe said that Bournemouth had “a couple of injury concerns” ahead of Monday’s match against Arsenal – but didn’t name names.

Sokratis (illness) is back in training for the Gunners, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and David Luiz both see out bans and will be available for Gameweek 25.

Calum Chambers (knee), Kieran Tierney (shoulder), Sead Kolasinac (thigh) and Reiss Nelson (hamstring) are out.

Steve Bruce says that Joelinton (knock) “should” play against Oxford, while Nabil Bentaleb and Allan Saint-Maximin will be involved.

DeAndre Yedlin (knee) is also in contention but Florian Lejeune has picked up a groin injury and Emil Krafth (ankle) is out for up to six weeks.

Harry Winks’ ankle is being assessed ahead of Totteham Hotspur’s fourth round tie at Southampton, while Ben Davies (ankle), Harry Kane (hamstring) and Moussa Sissoko (knee) remain out.

On Thursday, Ralph Hasenhuttl said that Cédric Soares will be sidelined for three weeks with a knee ligament injury.

Jannik Vestergaard (concussion) and Shane Long (knee) won’t feature against Spurs, either.

David Moyes has confirmed that West Ham United could be without Robert Snodgrass and Arthur Masuaku (both knee) for Saturday’s FA Cup match with West Brom, while Angelo Ogbonna (back) will be assessed.

David McGoldrick (foot) also faces a late check ahead of Sheffield United’s FA Cup tie against Millwall.

no need to panic, just make a decision on who you want and then get some good enablers that you can play in 28, and you will know who blank by wednesday, after replay in carabou cup. Also, a somewhat better picture of FA cup blankers will be provided you after the draw on monday.

Jiminez of 21pts to Ings of 3pts was my worst transfer decision of this season. And worst part is I made the decision after reading ings articles and member stats along with comparison tool. As a non member would have had, removing before facing Soton would have been anyway foolish and would hold atleast one gw more. Overtly stats hardly help as there will always be one stat which contradict the others :/
P.S: Membership although decent, is overrated

I guess this Jimenez to Ings move was due to Ings as well Southampton's performance vs Leicester which made everyone think that they are rock solid at back plus 9 shots from Ings plus recent points return from Jimenez were poor, it just made sense and once that kind of vibe is created, its tough to get out of that 😀

    Hello everyone. My team is:
    Ryan, (Button)
    TAA, Robbo, Stephens, (Lund, Kelly)
    Mane#, KDB, Son#, Grealish, Traore
    Vardy?#, Ings, Ayew with 1FT and 1.9itb

Another game week that was mediocre as Stephens was on the bench and triple captained Mane, and cant get below the 300-400,000s mark.
The 'obvious' thing to do would be to swap Mane for Salah now, but this seems to be just joining a bandwagon where everyone will own him and opportunities to rise much would be reduced.
    So would you
    a) Mane to Salah
b)wildcard creating a team with Firmino, Mahrez, Jimenez, Auba, and say Zaha, CHO and real differentials, getting rid of Mane, Son, Vardy and possibly KDB
    c) fiddle around piecemeal with the team with a hit or two most weeks, trying to get in the occasional differential?

How about, and geared up for bench boost at some point, as well as just being a mix of template and diffs
        Lloris, McCarthy;
        TAA, Robbo, Azpi, (Lund, Stephens)
KDB, Mahrez, Zaha, Wilson (H), Traore
        Auba, Jimi, Firmino

Good defence and forward line. Allows swapping and transfers depending on fixtures in midfield. Accepts that if Salah is on fire then will get slaughtered.

Am absolutely amazed Vardy is sold in big numbers. Take the westham game where he was withdrawn due to injury and he had

11 goals and 5 assists in his last 12 pl starts

Are you kidding me? My mind is incapable of finding logic in the kneejerk reaction aimed towards him lately. People are blinded by the
two games he missed due to his wife child birth

Rodgers had come out and said he is fine for next gw. Ndidi is back as well. Vardy has form and great fixtures on the horizon. Go on fall for the Kun trap aka pep roulette

you can also put it as involved in 3 goals in 5 starts since gw17. where one of the matches was against liverpool

you can twist numbers anyway you want to a find a reason to sell him. laughable

Whether he played or not is his problem, just like you are saying about Kun's gametime. Its 3 goal involvement in 7 GWs, thats all, pretty poor for a 9m player whether its Vardy or anyone else.

Its same for you as well, you are trying to convince yourself by manipulating those numbers, nothing else. You can keep him for those reasons and those who are getting rid have their own reasons, not sure what is laughable in that.

Difference is Vardy is guaranteed 90 mins every gw. He missed the 2 games in Christmas due to unforeseen circumstances

Kun has missed games due to pep roulette which has been happening regularly and will continue to happen as long as pep is the manager. totally different circumstances

Once again you have made a laughable statement.

so ? if he played those matches he would have likely got returns. including those matches when deriving stats is clearly twisting and manipulation of stats when checking for a form of a player

My problem is that I'm trying to figure out how to get Aubamyang back in. I'd love to have them both like I did a few GWs ago, but that would mean selling one of Jimenez or DCL, plus Robertson, who I just bought. Vardy to Auba is clean, no hits, and I bought Vardy relatively late so it wouldnt be as hard to get him back if I need to as it would be for those who were smarter than me ten weeks ago

Have you ever strained or tore your gluteus maximus? If you had, then you would realise that it is vulnerable to a repeat strain for at least four weeks if any sort of knee jerk extension or sudden movement was to ensue . To that extent alone and without weighing up the form, I shall be selling

You're not wrong. I guess I feel like when Newcastle, Burnley, and Everton do concede, they concede a lot of goals, whereas the others concede one, maybe two. Also City has Laporte back, so I'm expecting defensive improvement.

I think its interesting the numbers you choose. You point would have been made just as effectively by using 10 games for all three teams

same logic as it always is, people sell because he has dipped in form and not everyone is inside 100k. very reluctantly sold myself, he can do fine even with the coming fixtures. But i have had a very good team for the past weeks but not going anywhere, now a lot of my players either are injured or going into a slump, and i take the chance on Lund to end his FPL jubilee season. So, therefore i try to do a slight change and hopefully that brings me in a better position. I have used to play wc late, but it never got me anywhere and if we be honest i think after the FA cup draw on monday, plus the carabou cup we get at least pretty good picture of who will blank and so on

If they score more points nee toys are fun. Leicester are not a form team, and they’ve been carried by Harvey Barnes of late. Hopefully they’ll “kick on” soon because they can’t rely on Chelsea, Spurs and Wolves dropping points week in week out.

I can ser why you think that but your logic does not apply in my case. I planned for Liverpool double and then i told myself if things were at the same level after that gw than it was at New year i would try wc at an earlier stage. Vardy out is part of a strategy, it might work or it does not. In gw 29 i know wether it was good or bad.

    Thoughts ??

Do you have to? Is Salah more expensive for you? Maddison is more likely to score points consistently than Perez, so I wouldnt do that part of it.

Maddison is a troll. Good idea. Perez points per minutes impressive

I am considering Grealish to Perez.

Vardy will score more than Maddison that is a near certainty

Grealish will probably score more consistently than Perez

True but has a higher ceiling and if you have other consistent scorers in your squad I can handle inconsistency at 6m.

I did a -4 to take Vardy out for Auba, then last night I read hes off to Barca, and Vardy is likely to be back for the Villa game. Would you say its likely he goes in this transfer window..?

That was pretty stupid (sorry). There's a lot of days left til the next match and you could have waited for better news on Vardy. No, I don't think he'll go to Barca. I think that's a rumor started by his agent.

Its not so much the losing Vardy as hes been injured and off the boil for a little while now, its the likelihood of Auba going to Barca after bringing him in that makes me feel stupid. FIngers crossed he stays.

Hey guys. Any ways to improve this WC? 0.1itb.

    McC.
    TAA. VVD. Lascelles.
    Salah. KDB. Son. Grealish
    Auba. Ings. Jimenez.

    4.0. O'Connell. Stephens. Hayden.

No BB left so don't need a playing 2nd keeper.

I would rather Mahrez over Son and have Robbo over VVD. Maybe also upgrade Lascelles.

Robbo hasn't proven better value this season
Lascelles at 4.2 rotation seems best in class
        Mahrez isn't nailed.

        Thanks though!

well you might think you not need a second goalie, but Saints could progress to sixth round of fa cup, then you have no goalie for 31. Son is expensive for a Spurs asset under Mou, Arsenal does not inspire much attacking wise?

No. Vardy prob ok, possibly fit for Carabao midweek. If Mane gonna be out longish term maybe go for Son. If back earlier then Madisson to Traore, Barnes, Perez, Doucoure, Alli, Almiron kinda bracket.

    Henderson (Button)
    Taa Gomez Lund Tanganga Mariappa
    Salah KDB Perez Cantwell Hayden
    Ings Auba Aguero

My midfield is the part that concerns me most. Also the possible blank in Gw 28 for Arsenal and City...

I f..cked this 2 GWs ago when dropped Jimenez (instead of Abraham) to Ings... 18 points lost...

Should I now reverse the decision and drop Tammy and get Jimmy back into my team?
Or there any better FWD option for up to 7.7 as Tammy replacement to consider..?

Way to much money in midfield....and defence and frontline very poor. City blank gw28 and will rotate to focus on CL.....I would start again
