Fantasy Allsvenskan Goalkeepers

Introduction

After a delay, Allsvenskan has been cleared to start on the 14th of June and there’s no better time to start properly planning our teams for the Official Allsvenskan Fantasy game. Today we’ll start by looking over some of the Goalkeeping options available to us this season.

Goalkeepers in Fantasy Allsvenskan get points for the same things as in FPL (time played, clean sheets, every three saves and every penalty save) but with a few extra points thrown in as defensive bonuses. That means they get 1 point for every 6 clearance, block, or interception and 1 point for every 6 ball recoveries – with a maximum of 2 defensive bonus points per game. This, in turn, leads to “active” keepers having quite a decent floor and complements a lack of clean sheets for some of the less premium options. That’s not to say premium keepers aren’t worth it as the best options combine all avenues to points like Norrköping’s Isak Pettersson (6.5m) who came in third in the overall points last season with 166, just behind defender Lars Krogh Gerson‘s 174 points (6.5m) and midfielder Muamer Tankovic (11.0m) who got 181.

With that in mind, let us take a look at some of the main goalkeeper options!

Premium Goalkeepers

Isak Pettersson

Isak Pettersson (6.5m) had a great season for IFK Norrköping and became the highest scoring goalkeeper, for the second season in a row. He managed to get 16 clean sheets in 30 games and sprinkled that with 97 saves and an incredible tally of 281 ball recoveries (second-best in the league). In terms of defensive in and outgoings for Norrköping, semi-regular wingback Ian Smith and central midfield figurehead Gudmundur Thórarinsson have left the squad while defensive midfielder Eric Smith rejoined on a season-long loan. Manager Jens Gustafsson played around a lot more with a four-man defence in pre-season (rather than wingbacks which he deployed most of last season) which could create a different dynamic in the defence but in all likelihood, Pettersson will continue to be a great option this season as well.

Peter Abrahamsson

BK Häcken keeper Peter Abrahamsson (6.5m) was 15 points behind Pettersson last year and he got there thanks to 11 clean sheets, 83 saves, 236 ball recoveries and 3 penalty saves in 29 games. Penalty saves are in general not to be relied upon as a source of points but Abrahamsson is starting to develop a bit of a reputation in that department as he’s let in just 4 goals from the 9 penalties he’s faced in the last 2 seasons. Häcken manager Andreas Alm also has a reputation for promoting a solid defence (he previously coached AIK with great defensive results). 6.5m is a bit on the expensive side though and Abrahamsson is going to have to keep up the pen-saves if he’s to justify that price.

Johan Dahlin

The third and final 6.5m goalkeeper is Johan Dahlin from Malmö FF. Malmö had a (by their own standards) slow start to the season last time around but recovered after a while and pushed Djurgården for the title up until the very last game, finishing second. Dahlin’s biggest selling point is that he keeps plenty of clean sheets (15 in 29 games) and lets in very few goals – just 16 in total last season. He hasn’t been kept very busy though which we can see in other fantasy stats:

  • 62 saves (8th best in the league).
  • 3 blocks/clearances/interceptions (worst in the league!).
  • 199 ball recoveries (7th best in the league).

All in all, 6.5m is a lot to shell out for a keeper who’s not that involved in actions favoured by the bonus point system, but he remains a popular choice given Malmö’s defensive prowess. Malmö also have a new head coach this season so maybe Dahlin will find new avenues to points as well, time will tell.

Tommi Vaiho

An unlikely hero for the league-winners Djurgården last season, Tommi Vaiho (6.0m) swooped in to claim his place from the bench when starting keeper Per Kristian Bråtveit (5.0m) fell out of favour as his head was turned by a move abroad, that later fell apart. Vaiho who has a long history at Djurgården wasted no time in cementing his place and kept 12 clean sheets in 20 games, letting in just 10 goals overall. There’s no doubting his performances last season (he was brilliant) but they have to be viewed somewhat through the lens of an extremely solid back-line led by central defender Marcus Danielsson who has since left to play in the Chinese league.

Given the current pandemic Danielsson has been unable to feature for his new club though, and some rumours are placing him back in Djurgården on a season-long loan. It remains to be seen how it all unfolds but early signs in pre-season seem to indicate that Djurgården might have a slightly harder time this season keeping it as tight without their defensive general leading the line. Some have high hopes in Erik Berg (5.5m) replacing him efficiently but his consistent injury problems in the last three years sheds some doubt on that line of thinking. Keep a close eye on the defensive developments at Djurgården as rival Bråtveit will no doubt be hoping to reclaim his spot if he is unable to secure a move away this summer.

Jakob Haugaard

AIK’s Oscar Linnér has left to play for Arminia Bielefeld and Jakob Haugaard (6.0m) was signed as a replacement. Haugaard most recently comes from a few years at Stoke where he’s struggled to get any game-time, he hasn’t really been a regular since the 2014/2015 season for Danish side FC Midtjylland where he kept 7 clean sheets in 23 games. Haugaard faces competition from Budimir Janošević (5.0m) who could be a real value pick should he manage to oust Haugaard as the season progresses. As things stand however, Haugaard should be first choice for an AIK side that always does well defensively.

Giannis Anestis

IFK Göteborg keeper Giannis Anestis (6.0m) was a solid pick last year but then he was priced at 5.0m. The new price-tag puts increased pressure on him to perform but he does have some things going for him, namely Göteborg’s impressive displays at home. In 15 games at home last season they only let in 7 goals, keeping 8 clean sheets in the process. Away from home however they let in 24 goals in 15 games so that is something that they’re going to have to work on if they want to finish higher up the table. Even so, Anestis could still be a solid pick even with the new price-tag, if he can keep building upon the 10 clean sheets he managed in 30 games last time around.

Mid-priced Goalkeepers

David Ousted

Signed by last season’s bronze-medallists Hammarby to replace the retiring Johan Wiland, David Ousted (5.5m) will probably be one of the more busy “top team”-keepers, if last year is anything to go by. Hammarby try to win games by attacking non-stop and as such, tend to leave themselves well exposed on the counter. The goal difference 75-38 from 30 games really says it all and even if Hammarby are looking to improve defensively, unless something drastic changes, it’s likely that Ousted will be tested frequently and thus (in theory) has a chance to prove his worth. Keep in mind though that he takes up a Hammarby spot that might become precious if they can keep up their attack (an offensive double up and at times treble up was very viable last season).

Oscar Jansson

Örebro’s keeper Oscar Jansson (5.0m) had a solid season last time around and remains an interesting proposition this year. Though clean sheets are few and far between (just 4 in 30 games) he racks up the saves with 118 in total last season, the best in the league by a margin of 17 saves. He was also top for ball recoveries (323) and second-best for clearances/blocks/interceptions (27). That means defensive bonus points are likely to keep flying in, though unfortunately they seem to come at a price of letting plenty of goals in as well with 56 conceded last year – worst in the league. Jansson finished last season as the fifth-highest scoring goalkeeper and could very well be a good option again.

Lucas Hägg Johansson

Another 5.0m option who doesn’t really do clean sheets is Lucas Hägg Johansson (3 in 30 attempts last season) but he somewhat makes up for that in saves and defensive bonus points. He’s ranked second-best for saves (101), third-best for ball recoveries (260) and best in the league for clearances/blocks/interceptions (29). Kalmar is now managed by Nanne Bergstrand who’s back in charge of the club for the fourth time where he’s had mixed results recently, though he famously guided them to their first and only league title back in 2008. One thing Lucas Hägg Johansson has going for him is the fact that back-up keeper Tobias Andersson comes in at a cost of just 4.0m, making them a very viable 9.0m combination for our squads.

Budget Goalkeepers

Marko Johansson

Quite possibly the pick of the budget bunch, Marko Johansson (4.5m) is on loan at Mjällby from Malmö. Johansson is a young talent who has spent the last three seasons on loan to different Swedish clubs and impressing enough to earn quite a few games for Sweden’s national youth teams. Mjällby’s starting keeper last season was Carl-Johan Eriksson (4.5m) but it seems likely that Johansson has come to Mjällby to play, otherwise Malmö wouldn’t have loaned him out. Marko Johansson arrives at a Mjällby squad who earned promotion last season many thanks to a solid defence (31 goals conceded in 30 games, second-best in the league). Mjällby also advanced to the quarter-final in the Swedish cup in pre-season, at the expense of title winners Djurgården. With three wins and a goal difference of 10-2, they showed encouraging signs ahead of the new season in the top division, though the level of the opponents (besides Djurgården) has to be taken into account. In three cup games Johansson got one game while Carl-Johan Eriksson got two, but I wouldn’t make too much of that yet – just try to stay updated on how that particular situation develops.

Lukas Jonsson

IK Sirius goalkeeper last season was Lukas Jonsson (4.5m) but they’ve since reinforced with Jonathan Viscosi (4.5m) who’s set on challenging Jonsson for the starting spot. As things stand Lukas Jonsson appear to remain the first-choice keeper but it is something to keep track of as the season draws closer. Jonsson managed to keep veteran keeper John Alvbåge on the bench last season (admittedly the latter struggled a bit with injuries as well) and he got 6 clean sheets in 23 games. He was kept quite busy and managed 75 saves, 174 ball recoveries and 26 clearances/blocks/interceptions while he let in 35 goals.

Brattberg maybe but they’ve just signed Viktor Noring who’s been added in at 4.0m, not really sure actually who gets the spot!

Are there country leagues in Allsvenskan like there are in fpl and Eliteserien?

Brilliant as always Petter and that's answered a question I had earlier, Johansson may just be what I'm looking for early doors.

Marko and MAIF and FFF rotate in the first three, maybe all season. I might punt with Brattberg to start though a 4.0m starting keeper would be great. A rotating 4.5m and 4.0m keepers would free up 2m over a premium keeper and give me that premium back 5 I'm looking at of Gerson, Lauritsen, E. Larsson, Wernersson and Kack. Got a solid midfield four and a premium forward. Eleven playing at home in GW 1 and GW 3 and then WC GW 4 if it was a mistake. Something to ponder.

Kack is away GW 1 but I do have Gero of HIF up top and they are home to VAR in GW 1.

Seems like a good plan, I myself have a hard time trusting that Falkenberg defence but a good keeper could of course still bring in the points!

I'm looking at trying to pair the tried and tested (like Käck + another premium) with some cheaper options at 5.0m that might do a decent job. Haven't identified exactly who yet though 🙂

Great to have the game back, and these articles as well of course!

Pettersson is by far the best GK option IMO, but this season I just can't find the money for a premium keeper. I've been deciding between Hägg and Jansson and the early fixtures made me go for Hägg. I usually plan at least 7-8 games ahead, and make plans for wildcards and chips, so to only have 3 gameweeks to plan for will be a massive challenge this season.

I'm looking to start the season with a 4-5-1 formation. A few question marks in defence regarding game time, but it feels solid overall (Gerson, Käck, Berg, Ahmedhodzic, Okumu). The midfield is very strong, but my main worry is only having one Hammarby player in Kacaniklic. Would love to fit in Bojanic, Paulinho or Tankovic but just can't find the money without changing the entire formation.

Yeah I've got Hägg currently as well, hoping that Kalmar might be a little bit more solid this season. Planning will be tough this season no doubt, think squad depth could be a key component, even more so than usual.

Hi Bob good to see you back, I'm looking at a 5-4-1 to kick off with and accept that I may well have to WC in GW 4, best of luck.

        Thanks!

Nice to see someone els also concidering a lone striker formation. Who are you playing up front? I was all set on Jesper Karlsson, but the lack of edge in the Elfsborg attack, and poor early fixtures have made me reconcider. Picking between Karlsson, Khariashvili and Paulinho. Khariashvili is nailed and with great early fixtures, Paulinho would give me a nice Hammarby doubble-up but he's got competition from Johannsson. To afford Khariashvili/Paulinho I would have to downgrade Irandust to Max Svensson.

I've also become hesitant to Gerson. 6.5 is a lot for a player facing AIK and Djurgården in the first 3 games, but theres also the FOMO factor in the first game against Kalmar. His points might also be affected if Norrköping decide to go for a 4-4-2 without wingbacks as well.

I have Reiks, Nalic, Kacaniklic and Levy across the middle with Gustavsson the 4.5m 5th mid.

Up top I've went with Kharaishvili with 2 x 5.5m forwards that I will play sometimes Gero of HIF and Moro of MAIF.

In fact GW 1 I'll likely bench Kack and play Gero who is at home, all 11 starters will be home GW 1 and GW 3 and then possibly WC GW 4.

That's the thought so far Bob.

Sound like a decent plan. I find Malmö very hard to predict at this stage, so I'm going safe with AC and hope that Ahmedhodzic could be a steal at 5.5. I'm currently on Khariashvili as well, those first three fixtures looks tasty, and Paulinho might be too much of a gamble at 10.5. Would probably still go for Käck over Gero though, he hasn't impressed me much and face plenty of competition from Jönsson, van den Hurk and even Mbo who's scored a bunch of goals in pre-season.

Thanks for that, I'll do some digging for cheap forwards that get game time or just play Kack even if it's away. There's doesn't seem to be much on offer for forwards between 5.5m and 9.0m.

I'll go into this a bit more in the article about forwards but I think Aron Jóhannsson could be a steal at 9.0m this season if he can stay fit. Stefan Billborn has multiple times talked him up and he looked very good in pre-season before it all got shut down. Paulinho on the other hand looked way off pace and seems to be more destined for the position slightly behind the main striker whereas Jóhannsson was on the end of most things going forward. Assuming Zlatan doesn't arrive, I think he could be a very viable option. I'm also quite interested in Robin Söder, he really got into it during the latter stages of the season gone by.

I had Gerson in but he's currently out thanks to a worry about them not playing with wing-backs as frequently. Will be interesting to see how the top defensive teams line up, will Erik Berg be able to replace Danielson? Or will Danielson actually come back on a loan?

Thanks for that insight! Paulinho is always Paulinho, and would be intresting even in a role behind the main striker. The fact that he looks off pace is more worrying, and he always seems to have a bit of a fitness problem. How many Hammarby players do you have? And who do you prefer?

The things I've read about Norrköping is that Gerson is expected to have a less attacking role this season, and that Haksabanovic has been given more of the set pieces. I might leave him out for the start of the season as I don't expect him to keep more than one clean sheet in the first 3 games.

Well I love overindulging in Hammarby so I’m going in with a minimum of a double up, possibly treble depending on how other options look. Kaca 100% nailed and Jóhannsson very likely, Bojanic is a floater who either is in alongside those two (all eggs and baskets etc, though I’d still afford on more premium from another team for the captaincy issue), or instead of Aron.

Haksabanovic loan expiring in June as well though and no news there so he might be heading back to West Ham.

Sounds like a good plan. I only got Kacaniklic, and with the uncertainty regarding Johansson/Paulinho and a possible arrival of Zlatan, I might wait with the doubble-up until I got more information. It could be costly in the first game, but hopefully they wont run riot against Elfsborg away nor AIK at home in GW 2 and 3.

According to todays news, Erik Berg will be fit for the start of the season, but his minutes will be managed. With a weeks rest between the first three games, hopefully he'll be able to play all of them, so he's back in my team for now. Gerson currently out (another one that could come back and haunt me in the first game). Just realized there's an open spot to the left in the Norrköping defence, Telo and Binaku both comes in at 5.0 and could be a good option. With both Berg and Ahmedhodzic in the team I decided to go safe with Da Graca instead, leaving me with the following defence atm.

Da Graca - Wernersson - Berg - Käck - Ahmedhodzic

Perhaps a bit risky to doubble up with Göteborg and Djurgården, but they both have excellent fixtures. Three CB and only two WB might cost me some BP and assists as well.

Yeah I have my eyes on Binaku, he'll be pushing to make that spot his own though I'm not sure he'll get all the games. Da Graca in right now for me as well, a solid 5.0m option for a good defensive squad.

I'm a bit sceptical about Berg's ability to stay fit but he's quality when he plays no doubt. Thoughts on Witry at 7.0m, priced out of contention or is he Allsvenskan's Trent Alexander Arnold?

Binaku-Telo feels like a 50/50, so you'll probably have to wait for more information there. My mate, who's a Norrköping supporter, expected Telo to start, but had also heard rumours about a young midfielder playing LB during the closed training sessions. Da Graca is probably a more safe pick, especially since I have two doubtful starters in Berg and Ahmedhodzic. Nice to see someone els also targeting Da Graca 🙂

Witry have never been an option for me, which is strange since he's such an excellent player, and the comparation to TAA is very good. It all comes down to the money, and Käck + 1.0 can do more for me right now.

My decision on a premium striker just got tougher when I realized I could get Kiese Thelin in, who's got Mjällby and Varberg at home in the first three games. Kiese? Khariashvili? Karlsson? Paulinho? Johannsson?

I won't start with Binaku/Telo, too much of a risk for me and not entirely sure on Norrköping defence from the start. Da Graca I sort of just stumbled upon and thought "no way he's nailed at that price" but they don't have that many CB-options and he does appear to be first choice, potentially great value.

Yeah 7.0m is a lot to ask for a defence that's not looked as solid in pre-season but it depends on what he can offer going forward for me. Eric Larsson might be a better option at 6.5m.

People seem very keen on Kiese Thelin, I have to admit I'm not overly impressed when looking at the stats. Has he looked good in pre-season? Malmö have quite a few options up top though, do you think he starts enough? Göteborg has a great start as well with Elfsborg (H), Varberg (a), Mjällby (H) - Söder/Khara could be good.

Yeah, and Telo/Binaku would only be a good pick for the first game against Kalmar, not for GW2 or 3. I had Da Graca for half of last season, he was a steal at 4.0 then but I still think there's great value in 5.0 even though he often missed out on defensive bonus. Young Tolinsson made an impressive debut in the cup, and Bjärsmyr might be on his way in, but I don't think they are a threat yet.

Eric Larsson is always a popular pick, but his attacking threat went away last season when he was deployed as a RCB instead of RB. I have no idea where he'll play this season, but if he's back at RB he could be a goof pick. I've never been a fan of Kiese, but the early fixtures looks so good. I still got AC in midfield, so I'll probably settle with him. The Khariashvili/Söder dilemma didn't occur to me until now, could Söder be a better pick? He scored plenty last season and in pre-season, while Khariashvili is on set-pieces and is a bonus monster.

I'm a fan of Robin Söder personally, plays further forward and he served me very well at the tail end of last season. The bonus dilemma is valid but at 0.5m cheaper and more of a goalscorer than Kharaishvili I think he's the better option. Both are good though!

From watching some pre-season Allsvenskan-talk Eric Larsson could be destined for a more attacking role again this season but har to know when it seems we won't get any more games before it kicks off.

Had a shuffle around out of curiosity to see what a 5-3-2 with Kharaishvili and Soder up front for the first three would look like and - I like it!

Great potential there! 5-3-2 is statisticly the best formation in allsvenskan fantasy, although I find it hard to find any value in midfielders around 5.0-5.5.

I tried myself to fit another premium striker in, but in the end it would affect my team too much. It was between:

                        Ring - Levi - Khariashvili - fodder
                        S.Olsson - Gerzic - A.Johannsson - Söder

Is there any speculation as to what will be the first set of fixtures? Surely they would just continue the same fixtures we left off with or is anyting fair game now?

If you are indeed talking about the Swedish league Allsvenskan and not FPL the schedule is set for the first three GWs: https://www.svenskfotboll.se/nyheter/serier/2020/5/sa-spelas-de-forsta-omgangarna-av-allsvenskan-och-superettan/

They’ve also added the games on the site.
If it’s FPL then go with Wild Rover’s link instead 🙂
