Eliteserien Round 3 – Where has all the money gone?

We sit here on the eve of Round 4 in the Eliteserien still awaiting a Rosenborg win. Although they managed to score twice (will let them claim that own goal as their goal – I think they need it, to be honest) they remain winless, languishing above the relegation zone on a single point. You’d have to be more than brave to suggest they are in any real danger of dropping out of the division but at the same time, you’d be labelled something close to mad if you were to suggest they are in any way shape or form title contenders this season. Finishing third again has to be the aim – oh how the mighty have fallen.

I wanted to start by highlighting Rosenborg’s poor form because it plays into what I am looking at this week – are we getting our money’s worth? Are the most expensive players in the game worth investing in? Or can we find better deals elsewhere? If you are sitting there looking at your team and you have even one Rosenborg player, let me tell you… you’re being conned.

Three gameweeks in and we have already had eighty-four goals. That’s eighty-four goals in just twenty-four games. If you can’t be bothered to do the math, it means we’re seeing 3.5 goals a game. With games averaging over 20 shots, it’s hardly surprising we’ve only had 10 clean sheets from a possible 48. This league is full of goals which is what makes it to me so entertaining to watch. This is football 101 – get the ball and try and score. Put it in the back of the net and if you let one in, make sure to score another. It may not be to everyone’s taste but I love it.

Now on to what I want to talk about. How well are we, as Fantasy Football Managers, managing our finances? At the start of the season, we were given a 100mNOK budget and I’m interested in working where the majority of that money has gone. Have we focused too much on premium assets that we’ve sacrificed squad stability and balance, or have we prioritised building balanced, well-thought-out teams with as little of our budget being spent on big-ticket assets?

Some managers prefer to get as many premium players into their squads as possible. It may seem outrageous to some of us, after all, what if one of those big-name players doesn’t perform? Your rank can take a nosedive. Of course, when they do perform, they have such high ceilings it can often offset the risk so much it’s worth doing.

Other players (yours truly included) favour a more conservative approach in picking as few premium options as possible, as to afford more balance, adaptability and more importantly, point-scoring options who are more likely to grind out returns throughout the season, albeit with a much lower points-potential.

As far as I’m aware, these are the two most employed strategies when approaching with Fantasy Football – hold your cards close to your chest, biding your time, or throw caution to the wind and go all in. More often than not as the season pushes along, those who favour one approach might start to favour the other, being sure to be flexible in the face of change.

But the question still remains: do we buy the flashy convertible, throw back the roof, put metal to the floor and drive with the wind in our hair like we’re born to die, or do we buy a Volvo? Panache vs practicality.

The biggest argument I constantly hear against spreading the funds is that money tied up in your bench is wasted money. It’s a fair argument if you’re routinely going into gameweeks with over 20m in your benched players. The extra money could definitely go some ways to improving what you already have, but if you like to have back up players ready to go in case of any emergency or last-minute rotation, it’s not completely illogical. The main drawback of spreading funds around your team is that you are limiting yourself to have players with much lower ceilings, potentially yielding less points than you might otherwise get.

Anywho – onto the data. I will be looking at the Top 10 highest scoring assets in each position, grouping them into one of the four following categories:

Premium, Mid, Budget and Ultra-Budget.

The idea is to see what kind of correlation there is between player cost and points scored, to get a good idea of their true value. As ever we will look at % ownership to get a better idea of the lay of the land, but will not be evaluating who offers best points per minutes at this moment in time. I feel this is something for a future article much later in the season when we have more data at our disposal.

GOALKEEPERS

1) Makani (4.6m) 19pts [8.8%]

2) Myhra (4.5m) 17pts [11.0%]

3) Ahamada (6.0m) 14pts [3.0%]

4) Sandberg (6.0m) 13pts [21%]

5) Mbaye (4.5m) 11pts [7.3%]

6) Linde (6.0m) 10pts [9.4%]

7) Hansen (6.0m) 10pts [11.1%]

8) Klaesson (5.0m) 9pts [15.3%]

9) Mitov Nilsson (5.5m) 7pts [3.4%]

10) Khaykin (5.0m) 6pts [1.8%]

The goalkeepers sitting atop the pile are probably not who most would expect to see. Mjondalen’s Sosha Makani has conceded just once in three games, making ten saves and racking up 3 bonus points in the process. He’s been so good his ownership has grown by almost a factor of five since Round 1. More than half of Myhra’s points have come from one game in which he saved a penalty, made eight saves and got one bonus point. The 23 year-old Norwegian has made fifteen saves so far this campaign – the most in the division.

Overall, 6 out of the top 10 scoring goalkeepers are the most owned in the game, meaning we’ve done alright with our cash. While Linde and Sandberg owners will fully expect their number 1’s to top the points table come the end of the season, Makani and Myhra owners are getting far more bang for their buck right now.

Top 10 Scoring Goalkeepers Breakdown: 4 Premium, 3 Mid, 3 Budget

Premium goalkeepers seem to be slightly more consistent than any other bracket, but it’s hard to deny that mid-priced goalkeepers, for now, have the edge on their more expensive peers.

DEFENDERS

1) Gregersen (5.2m) 25pts [20.8%]

2) Hanche-Olsen (5.5m) 24pts [30.7%]

3) Nakkim (4.6m) 20pts [10.8%]

4) Haugen (6.5m) 17pts [5.2%]

5) Holmgren-Pedersen (5.5m) 16pts [12.3%]

6) Solholm Johansen (5.5m) 16pts [9.3%]

7) Kristiansen (5.5m) 15pts [6.3%]

8) Aasbak (5.0m) 15pts [9.5%]

9) Solheim (5.0m) 15pts [4.1%]

10) Dragsnes (5.0m) 15pts [3.2%]

Three of the top five highest-scoring defenders all play for Molde. This really shouldn’t come as much of a shock – they are hard to score against and being a very attack-minded team, their defenders are usually in on the action. Between them, Gregersen, Haugen and Holmgren-Pedersen have registered 5 attacking returns and 8 bonus points, despite only managing a solitary clean sheet.

Hanche-Olsen and Solheim are the two Stabaek defenders that make the top 10 – being one of only two teams (the other being Mjondalen) to keep two clean sheets in their opening three games. The former has been awarded two bonus points in each of his three appearances as well as getting a goal against Sandefjord. Mjondalen remain unbeaten and have conceded just once which means it should come as no surprise then to see three of their defenders in the top 10. Kristiansund’s Aasbak and Brann’s Kristiansen make up the numbers.

Overall, 2 out of the top 10 scoring defenders are the most owned in the game. Quite frankly, we’ve not done too well here. While some managers might be quick to point out high ownerships of ultra-budget defenders such as Vogt and Daland, they are the only two 4.0m defenders in the top 10 most-owned table.

Molde, Brann and Kristiansund defenders will be expected to continue to keep racking up the points, while it remains to be seen if the cheaper Mjondalen options will still be viable half-way through the season.

Top 10 Scoring Defenders Breakdown: 1 Premium, 8 Mid, 1 Budget

While we might be collectively looking in the wrong places, the good news is that mid-priced defenders are the ones bringing home the bacon right now and provide affordable options going forward.

MIDFIELDERS

1) Sandberg (7.6m) 29pts [17%]

2) Zinckernagel (8.2m) 28pts [32%]

3) Hauge (7.6m) 26pts [14.1%]

4) Pellegrino (9.1m) 26pts [16.8%]

5) Eikrem (12.6m) 22pts [45.2%]

6) Saltnes (7.5m) 20pts [23%]

7) Maigaard (8.4m) 19pts [5.7%]

8) Hove (5.5m) 19pts [1.0%]

9) Berg (4.5m) 18pts [30.3%]

10) Kassi (6.1m) 17pts [5.7%]

Free-scoring Bodo/Glimt are a team made of midfielders who love to score goals. And set up goals. And in general score fantasy points, as is made pretty obvious. Four of the top ten play for them and together they’ve earned a massive 92pts (23pts each). Considering that not one of them started the season priced any higher than 8.0m, that’s pretty ridiculous.

Niklas Sandberg has until recently been flying under the radar. Originally priced at 7.5m, you can certainly expect this number to keep on rising as he’s currently the second-highest scoring player in the game. A big part of his appeal is that he is on penalty kicks for Haugesund, and while his team have had an abysmal start to the season, he seems to be flourishing, scoring in every single game so far and getting an assist too.

Pellegrino’s 23pt haul against Aalesunds meant he went from being in slightly more than two thousand teams to nearly three times that in just one game week. His injury kept him out of Round 3, but due to his absurd haul still sits fourth in our list.

Eikrem has had a slow but steady start for his almost fourteen thousand owners, and a recent brace from Maigaard – earning him 14pts – has started to show he might be worth the money after all. Budget options Hove and Kassi have four attacking returns between them while BFP magnet Patrick Berg has managed to earn himself eight out of a possible nine bonus points in his first three games. He may only have scored once, but the BFP system clearly favours his industrious performances regardless of end product.

Overall, 7 out of the top 10 scoring midfielders are the most owned in the game which would seem to imply we know our midfielders somewhat better than our defenders. For whatever reason, we’ve been able to identify where the goals, assists and bonus points will be coming from a lot easier in midfield than in defence even though the legend himself Wolff Eikrem is just the fifth-highest scorer.

Top 10 Scoring Midfielders Breakdown: 2 Premium, 5 Mid, 2 Budget, 1 Ultra-Budget

Just like it was with defenders, it seems that the more reasonably priced options are not only offering the best value for money (something we’ll talk about in another article) but they’re actually scoring more points than their more expensive cousins. Patrick Berg has been criminally under-priced this season and represents ridiculous – utterly ridiculous – value for money at 4.5m, the cheapest starting price for midfielders.

FORWARDS

1) Junker (8.4m) 31pts [31.9%]

2) Borven (11.0m) 25pts [34.1%]

3) Bamba (9.1m) 24pts [19.1%]

4) Salvesen (8.6m) 19pts [22.4%]

5) Bringaker (5.6m) 18pts [8.4%]

6) Vilhjalmsson (8.0m) 17pts [18.7%]

7) Abdellaoue (7.4m) 15pts [4.1%]

8) Shuaibu (6.0m) 14pts [2.8%]

9) Fridjonsson (7.5m) 12pts [2.1%]

10= Ammitzboll (6.4m) 9pts [0.9%]

10= Omoijuanfo (11.1m) 9pts [9.1%]

10= Berisha (9.0m) 9pts [10.9%]

Somewhat unsurprisingly Kasper Junker is the highest-scoring player in the game. And owned by 31.9% of managers, his affordable services have not gone unnoticed. After his brilliant hat-trick against Haugesund at the weekend, he scored and set one up against Rosenborg in their famous 3-2 win in Trondheim on Thursday evening. He is a player that looks relentless in his charge for goals, points and acclaim – I am absolutely certain he will be up there with the likes of Borven and Eikrem come the end of the season, that is if he doesn’t leave the club. If he keeps up this level of brilliance he’ll undoubtedly start attracting clubs from around Europe in need of a leading man. Hopefully, for our sakes, he stays in Norway for at least until the end of the season.

Borven, Bamba, Salvesen and Vilhjalmsson were always expected to be amongst the highest scoring forwards (as their relative ownerships should imply) but it’s the inclusion of IK Start’s Bringaker and Mjondalen’s Shuaibu that catch the eye. The former has managed a goal every game even though he was only given 45 minutes against Molde, and 23 year-old Shuaibu will have delighted the few managers who chose him in their initial Round 1 squads, with the Nigerian scoring twice and earning two bonus points to sit just five points behind Stromsgodset’s Salvesen.

Newly promoted Aalesunds potentially have themselves a capable goalscorer in Icelandic international Holmbert Fridjonsson, who despite only being given just over two hours of football has managed to score two of his clubs five goals this campaign. Abdellaoue was given just fifty minutes of game time in Sarpsborg’s first two games before deciding to give him the full ninety against Stromsgodset – what a decision that turned out to be. The Norwegian forward bagged himself a brace and all three bonus points to end the evening on 13pts.

Ammitzboll, Ohi and Berisha have all scored once to complete the list. Despite playing 260 minutes of football Berisha has only managed to find the net once while Ohi – deputising for James against Rosenborg and Start – has looked lacklustre, lazy and wasteful in front of goal. His one bonus point against Rosenborg in particular seeming somewhat of a charity rather than a reflection of his performance.

Overall, 7 out of the top 10 (12) scoring forwards are the most owned in the game, with James, Strand Larsen and Ostensen making up the numbers. My only reservation with this conclusion is how many of the players above are there due to a single performance, which seems to skew overall value. Looking at the top 6 players (Junker to Vilhjalmsson) gives us a much better understanding of where to look for consistent forwards who are playing regularly and offer more structure rather than one-off performances.

Top 10(12) Scoring Forwards Breakdown: 5 Premium, 4 Mid, 3 Budget

As we have 3 players tied on 9pts, this has opened the door for the premium options to walk in and be counted. Even so, it’s quite obvious that yet again the mid-priced options provide a good supply of points, in the absence of financial ruin. While many of us will expect to see both Molde forwards, Bamba, Junker and Borven near the top of the scoring charts at the end of the season, it looks as though we might have a few cheaper alternatives not too far behind as well.

CONCLUSION

While premium options should not be ignored, it is clear to me that mid-priced and budget-priced options are a vital mainstay of this game. This is a marathon, not a sprint and will require us to sometimes look outside the realm of what the hivemind might think to be acceptable. It’s early days but we’re already catching glimpses of certain players who may prove to be the diamond in the rough we’re all so eagerly searching for.

The most expensive players in the game are, bar a few, playing their part in giving us our money’s worth. It’s to be expected – they’re priced that way for a reason. But it should be clear to anyone in two minds before reading this article that there are a lot of reasonably-priced alternatives who are, up to this point, outperforming their value and giving us something to think about.

Overall I think can agree the vast majority of us have spent wisely thus far, which should be received as a huge positive as it’s often the case that we find ourselves attracted to the shiniest, most useless things that prove to be false investments. Right now that doesn’t seem to be the case. Even if some of us are truly woeful at managing our finances in real life, it looks as though for now our Fantasy Football investments are paying dividends.

Down from 6831 to 8371 before the Brann-Rosenborg kick-off. I'm not getting things right this season, so I need to change things up a bit. Any suggestions?

Thinking James+Källman to Junker+Børven might be worth it. Hate to miss out on more price changes though, so I will probably need to decide early about which moves to make.

    Sandberg
    Hanche-Olsen - Gregersen - Daland
Salétros - Hauge - Wolff Eikrem - Zinckernagel - Edvardsen
    Källman - James
    (Granlund - Ruud - Hustad - Bojang)

It's early days. You're doing better than most - I've seen FPL managers who've been like 1m halfway through then end up in the top 10k.

      Stats are always your friend.

The main issue we have this season is smaller crowds and far more fixture congestion. Those two things have combined to make it very hard to get things right on a consistent basis. Throw in a couple of unlucky K choices and things seem to unravel quickly.

I don't think you need to WC at all. You've got a good crop of players but maybe need to change 2 or 3 of them going forward.

The fixture congestion is really making things more challenging, that's for sure. Right now I'm struggling with transfers; Maigaard for example, started to deliver as soon as I got rid…

If I were to wildcard, I'd be looking to replace James, Källman, Bojang, Ruud (potentially), Salétros, Edvardsen and Hustad. I have two FT's due to missing the deadline by a couple of minutes yesterday, so James+Källman to Junker+Børven is probably a priority move. Going without a Børven just feels too risky, and Junker looks like a must-have.

I'm thinking the same thing. I might ship Salvesen so I can bring him in. I just don't like having a lot of money invested in one player but the guy is on fire and I can see more of the same to come.

Rosenborg want this deal through as soon as possible, no doubt, but Odd want a lot of money for it to happen. It will probably take a while until he's a Rosenborg player.

I feel the same way about having a lot of money tied up in one players (says the guy who currently has a James/Eikrem double-up…), but the ownership and form makes me think otherwise.

Might need to consider taking Børven out again when he moves to Rosenborg though, haha!

I'm annoyed at myself because I thought Borven wouldn't be reliable due to his move. I convinced myself of this so early on in the season and after he only managed 1 goal in the first two games I felt completely vindicated. Two games later...yeah. We've seen Borven captainers get 64pts from him. Sixty. Four.

Season is basically over already. I know that's pretty dramatic but yeah, very easy for someone new to the game to look at Borven and say "ooh he's scored 21 last year and very expensive. I'll get him and captain him forever." It's annoying. I feel like it's a case of if I wasn't aware of his move and how weakened Odd were by Rashani being out, then I would've got him no questions asked.

Ah well. A big part of the game is luck but it's also being confident in your picks. I reckon there's probably some correlation between high OR and teams with managers who hardly make many changes. It is impossible not to be absolutely livid about it though, but yeah. 64pts in two GWs from one captain. Madness.

You could argue when a player scores highly and you don't have them that it would result in a similar outcome. That's true to some extent but when I'm trying to pick a best XI for both short and long term reasons and cover myself as much as I can, and THEN I have another lottery to deal with... it's just annoying.

I've never liked the captaincy chip in FPL or Eliteserien. Just another element of luck that is unneeded in my opinion. Really effs me off to see people gifted extra points. But yeah, I get why it's in the game.

Agree. I thought going without Børven was a no brainer really; I just picked James as that felt the safest option. In the meantime, you see everyone that got Børven despite the upcoming move and other factors like Rashani not being available, getting great scores.

It will be difficult to close that 64 point gap, that's for sure…

I just feel like I've been punished for using my head and contemplating other factors rather than how good he was last season.

Captains have been: James 3pts (red card), Salvesen 2pts, Ohi 4pts and now Salvesen for 4pts.

Thats 13pts in total. Not even as many points as what Borven got this week alone. And to be honest, none of those captaincy picks were outlandish, risky or irrational whatsoever.

So yeah, you can see how much I love that part of the game haha.

All of these were sensible captaincies on paper, no doubt. Other than the Maigaard fail in GW 2, I've stuck with Wolff Eikrem each gameweek, despite him not playing full matches. He usually bags a few if not three bonus points anyway.

But if I had Børven, he would have been my captain for at least one of the two most recent gameweeks. Add the fact that Bodø/Glimt wasn't even a consideration for me going into the season, and you have a recipe for a bad OR…

Captaincy can be the difference between a good season or a terrible one. You can almost get away with having a bad team as long as you hit those great captaincy scores. It reminds me of my first FPL season, which was Salah's first Liverpool season. I had him from GW 1 (which was a good choice in itself), but as soon as I saw he could pick up steady points, I found myself sticking the armband on him almost every gameweek (no point looking at stats and stuff like that – Salah it was!). More than a few times that season, captaining him outweighed the weaknesses of the rest of the team, and as the season progressed I found myself getting better at structuring the team a as a whole. And that helped me to a decent first season OR.

Yeah I was umming and aahing about doing the same. In the end I avoided the move and I'm glad I did. Especially as Koomson has just scored. A small victory, but still.

Head up though - sometimes it's better attempting a risk that's calculated and can pay off, rather than simply doing nothing.

I've done -8's and -12's in FPL and it's seen me gain like 20pts+ net in GWs. You win some you lose some.

Yeah and I thought it was a good move. Stolas not playing and Zinckernagel looking great. Molde defence solid, attacking potential and good fixtures. But if I had just stuck with Saltness & Stolas I would be a lot happier with my team haha. Could now downgrade this Salvesen idiot and upgrade Saltness to Zinck without a hit. And still have Stolas...

Now I’m just wondering what an earth to do with Salvesen and how do I get in Pelle as I like all of my mids. (If Koomson plays well, like he has so far). No rush to get Pelle tho as they play Molde next GW.

Transfers I'm thinking about would be:

          Salvesen - Borven (now)
          THEN
          Edvardsen to Berg
          and
          Donnum to Pellegrino.

That would leave me 1.5m itb but I can't afford Pelle until I downgrade Edvardsen.

              Klaesson,Myhra

              Koomson,Donnum*,Edvardsen*,Sandberg,Hauge
              Salvesen*,Bamba,Junker

No Eikrem. Determined to avoid him the whole season. Just feel like the points are being spread so thin throughout Molde's squad. They've got a plethora of talent in midfield. Doubt he'll get all the points. Borven is another story though...

Interesting... Brave move but could be good.

I’m thinking about Salvesen & Eikrem to Borven & Pellegrino, but not this week. Also I’m not sure about Borven in Rosenborg. Do you know when he is joining? If he is at Odd in GW 7 the front line of Junker/Bamba/Borven would be lovely to use the Attack! Attack! -chip on. But Eikrem is so consistant, and so good... Idk man it would be a big risk.

I think you need one of Borven/Eikrem. Would be interested to see the highest teams without either of them.

For me I think Borven alone is enough. Loads of quality midfield options that offer really good value for money. Eikrem is consistent but I think Borven has a much higher ceiling this season.

I was so close to either captaining him or Bamba this week but thought nah Salvesen and Junker have the easier fixtures and went with Salvesen in the end. Don't regret the captaincy pick at all - was the right move logically, just didn't work out well.

Still, a Brann clean sheet and some Bamba and Koomson magic will go some way for making up for what has been a torrid week so far.

Koomson disallowed goal. Played in nicely by Bamba. Needlessly offside.

    Should be 2-0.

Rosenborg look helpless, hopeless and bereft of any ideas or creativity.

They seem to think if they throw the ball up to Adegbenro or Helland then goals will magically appear out of nothing.

Its tough on how variable it is so far. I have had two weeks of transfers with hits to fix my team up and it has worked out so far.

Doing hits instead of a WC at the moment. I feel I will need it later and they will be gold.

Could be good later on, very true.

I already used it last week and I was pleased with my team coming to this week but then news from Stolas not playing this week either and the fear of Zinck made me to do a -4 that turned out awful.

Yup. 30 points from one player will certainly make things a whole lot better that's for sure.

Don't feel confident moving forward without him. He's just too explosive and his price is only going to keep on rising.

Main issue will be when he moves to Rosenborg will he keep it up? They are SO BAD it's unreal. Ironically he might struggle to get as many goals due to worse service if you could imagine such a thing.

No idea why Brann pass the ball around the back so much. They look so reckless. Architects of their own downfall most certainly.
Sometimes I think "Oh am I watching Barcelona?" then I realise no it's Brann and they don't know what they're doing.

This should've been 3 points in the bag after 20/30 minutes. They've absolutely ruined this game for themselves. Really disappointing.

Bizarre. Brann are doing their best to screw this up for themselves. No idea what he thinks Hustad is going to offer that Bamba wasn't already.

And they leave Koomson who has a yellow and is very, very involved. I'm finding it hard to keep my jaw from dropping to the floor. I'd understand if it was 2-1 or 1-0 or something, but 1-1 when the game is on a knife-edge... ridiculous.

The game is well over, but I'm still laughing! Important result for the team, but this was three points stolen by Rosenborg.

But one thing is worth mentioning. Despite being far (very far) from good, Rosenborg played better than they have at any point this season – especially after the subs. Seriously, what have they been working on leading up to this season? Only two days with "Rambo" Henriksen, and there's at least some resemblance of …something.

Because what we've seen before this have truly been nothing. No plan, nothing.

    3) replace who first? Grealish, DCL or Aub (if no returns vs Nor)

    That Bamba substitution really worked:

    Hustad:
    26 minutes played
    6 touches
    5 Passes
Lost all 5 aerial duels was involved in

    Bamba:
    64 minutes played
1 assist, 1 shot on target, 1 shot off target
    28 touches
    13/18 passes
    2 key passes
    2/2 long balls
    1 big chance created.

Yeah... Bamba was having a terrible game clearly. Has to be one of the most baffling subs of the season. Rosenborg gifted their first 3pts of the season.

    Team for GW5 OR - 30

    Makani
    Pedersen Bjorkan Olsen Vogt*
    Saltnes Sandberg (K) Eikrem
    Junker Borven Salvesen

    Vieira Bojang Aremu Markovic

    2FT considering a -4

    Borven -> Bringaker (Sub 1
    Aremu -> Hauge
    Bjorkan -> Gregersen
(Bringaker Allows me to do Markovic -> Pellegrino with 1.5ITB for GW6) once the Molde game finishes although Pellegrino could still score against Molde in GW5,
Might be the right time to jump off Borven dont think he’ll sustain what he’s doing now and everyone will quickly jump to him now meaning he’ll inevitably start blanking, Would rather have 3 Bodø attackers than a defender as they can’t keep CS atm although Bjorkan chipped in with an assist luckily, still happy with the rest of my team I would consider dropping Salvesen but I don’t really like the other forward options

I wouldn't be moving off Børven personally in the foreseeable future (at least until RBK move) & I wouldn't say it's beyond feasible for him to carry this form on given the fact ODD seem to be in full stride now (they have Rashani to come back barring him leaving) plus him being probably the best forward in the league along with Leke (likely to split with Ohi) & no threat of rotation with games every three days running up until the 1st of August.

Really need to sort my defence. Vogt injured. Valsvik out of the Rosenberg starting eleven. Bojang - no words needed.

But where are the clean sheets coming from next game week? Only one CS this weekend (FKH, thankfully I have their keeper). Gregersen gone missing without trace (the whole Molde defence today was a bit left field). Kristiansund play Molde next. And I'm not sure I trust many other teams defensively. Too many goals flying in at the moment.

Any names for a shortlist? Thinking of Aasbak, Sell, Hagen....
My other 2 defenders are Hanche-Olsen and Nasberg.

Nakkim? Should have had a return for a 4th game running today, his original pass to Ibrahim was saved by the GK before he scored off the rebound. Annoying as an owner but promising that he's basically playing as a striker late on if they've lost the CS and are chasing a goal.

I'm waiting for Stølås to start a game and he's straight in my team. Third straight game on the bench today so he can't be far off full fitness. He gets his fair share of CS points too but he's the only defender not reliant on those to get consistent returns.

Nakkim is a reasonable shout. Although I just cannot buy into Mjondalen being anything other than ropey.

I've saved the money for Stolas but (a) 7.5m is a heck of a lot for a defender in a mid-table team and (b) I already have Sandvik and not sure about doubling up on FKH defence each week.

    Afternoon people.

I have a bit of an odd, specific request. I am collating data from every match taking place this season. As well as certain individuals (I'm not going to do it for every player - that would be insane) but I have hit a stumbling block.

For the Rosenborg, Kristiansund game, for some reason Sofascore haven't got the match statistics. I've been trawling from site to site and unable to find specific information. I've been able to piece together some statistics from the players' screens, but things like shots inside/outside box, corners, possession etc... isn't there.

I have had SOME success from other sites, but for example one website claimed Rosenborg had 95/100% possession and KBK didn't even have a touch. So yeah, it's not information I'm confident to use.

If anyone knows of another good, reliable website for Eliteserien stats I'd be incredibly grateful to be enlightened. Perhaps as I'm English, I'm being directed away from possible good Norwegian websites that could collate this info. Or it's just that nobody is really doing it other than the few sites I've already seen.

Any help would be really appreciated. Cheers guys.

My initial thought there is to avoid Eikrem and go for someone nobody else will have, in order to steal a jump in rank!

Might not be the best strategy there hah.

I like the look of Haugen/Gregersen double captain to be honest! 2 very likely clean sheets plus those guys get forward and love a goal/cheeky assist. That's high risk high reward that is.

James/Ohi could rotate and Eikrem doesn't seem to be lasting too long these days. But maybe that's just the defiance in me talking louder than the rational. logical side of me. Interesting either way.

I think avoiding Eikrem in a DGW is madness in my opinion. The best player in the league & can do in 60 minutes more than most can do in 90. Especially in terms of fantasy returns. Do agree about James & Ohi though. One or both could bag a couple goals maximum (assuming one starts each game), but I see more potential in Haugen, Pedersen, or bonus-magnet Gregersen.

Yeah I'm aware of how consistent Eikrem. I was just trying to think outside of the norm. Depends how far ahead Molde are by that time. He might be rested in one of those games. Two games that are so, so winnable without the need to use him so it really wouldn't surprise me if he were to miss one.

Molde have such incredible depth in midfield - they're the City of this league in that respect. I could definitely see him missing the Start game if Molde had a good lead and he'd played every game up to that point.

Will be interesting to see where we are by then. Either way it looks good. Gives people who might be a bit behind at that point a chance to claw some points back for sure. There's many different ways to approach that DGW indeed.

Just a heads up for Børven owners he will possibly become a RBK players as soon as tomorrow otherwise they won't be able too be register him again until September 7th (ODD have also signed a new striker toady) & he may be a doubt if the for their fixture against Vålerenga if the transfer to go through.

...well that sums up my season then. I bring him and then this happens.

I feel like we should be allowed to negate that transfer and go back to how we were before. That's some ridiculousness if I ever heard it.

Already bought him in? For Salvesen I guess? Could still be good.

I knew he was going to rise in price so didn't want to lose 0.1m for no real reason.

This kind of thing isn't something you'd expect/rationalise, so didn't see any objection to bringing him pretty much after the Brann/Rosenborg game.

It's just not something you'd bank on. Plus, from what I've read, nothing suggested this was going to happen. It was widely reported that he would be arriving in Trondheim on 1st August (I swear I even saw 1st September quoted at some stage) so there was no reason to think this would be brought forward this early.

If it does happen it's incredibly unfortunate either way.

things happen that you can’t anticipate, players get bought and sold - the risk was always there ... look at the FPL game in England and the break in the season if you want see injustices, I wild carded for a double game week in 29 that was cut short and a blank that never was 🙂

I mean, how his transfer was originally arranged for 1st September then 1st August. There had been talk for weeks over getting it done before the registration window close but nothing was made too clear.

The implied likelihood of it going ahead was low - Rosenborg didn't want to pay extra for him.

We wouldn't be in this mess if not for Covid - another crazy variable - so it's certainly not something that happens very often at all.

Either way he's a Rosenborg player now and available for his debut tomorrow. Absolutely no reason to doubt he starts so I'm happy now as it turns out!

Hmm.. I think I’ll wait for few more weeks before getting him. GW 7 even in RBK shirt could be good time to bring in.

Re. Børven: from what I've read on twitter, it seems that Odd are holding firm & not allowing Børven to leave, instead having him finish his current contract. If I was a current owner, I wouldn't panic until we have anything concrete.

It's just that if RBK don't pay the money in advance by tomorrow to bring forward the transfer forward, Børven would be ineligible to play at RBK from the date of his contract expiring at ODD (1st August - 7th September) for RBK as the move happens out of the registration window thus tomorrow is the last day they can register him.

Yeah I understand the situation completely. But from what I've seen, it looks like Odd are going to force Børven & RBK into that awkward situation unless they're willing to pay an excessive amount. This is only based on tweets from Eliteserien followers though, nothing ITK or certain.

It would certainly leave a bitter taste to the move if he is forced to miss over a month of the season by ODD standing pat. At the end of the day what ever the outcome is, it will be a lose-lose for both sides.

I think in the end Borven will still play as he is doing now. Comes across a consummate professional, he really does. If he has to play for Odd a little while longer that won't deter him from putting in performances, all it'll do is annoy Rosenborg and probably cause friction between the two clubs going forward.

I can see it from both sides - it's so unfortunate. It's one of those things - we experience a pandemic and life has to change. We think it's just our freedoms but it's people's jobs, their livelihoods - even famous/rich people get caught up in it too! Who'd have thought it.

I'd like to think that common sense can prevail and Rosenborg understand Odd's stance - Covid ultimately is neither of their fault, but just as we are doing in the UK, you would think there could be some protection added to Borven's contract at Odd (extended to fall in line with relative deadlines/inflation of transfer window due to covid) so that Odd aren't being messed around. Or at least the NFF could be objective enough to think "ah yeah, why don't we mitigate this situation by extending the registration window by x amount of days so that both Odd and Rosenborg can benefit from this transfer rather than infuriating both of them."

Odd will want to get on with life without Borven ASAP (though they'll certainly be happy if he can keep on banging them in, in the meantime) and Rosenborg DESPERATELY need Borven up front to bang them in for them!

It's such a messy situation - who knows what will happen. In the best interest of my FF team, I hope he remains at Odd a little while longer otherwise I have Donnum coming off my bench to replace him this week. Yeah...the less said about that the better.

Unless I've misunderstood the situation - I was under the impression all this fallout was happening because of the change in start date of the season due to Covid and thus, contracts are expiring at the wrong time (like in UK) and the registration window hasn't been altered, thus any moves like this are being affected due to the overlap.
