Pundits Playoff Period 4 – Winners and Quarterfinals

Twenty two matches played, 66 Head to Head (H2H) battles won or drawn – finally the looooong group stage is over, and I can announce some winners, and which teams progress to which finals stage of the competition.

Period 4 Winners

In an exciting face-off, both teams vying for the top spot met each other in the final matchweek of Period 4. The Keane Fifteen bagged all six bonus points, winning all three of their H2H battles. But WhenTheOWENgetsTough amazingly still bagged the overall win by a margin of just 10 points, making them winners of the Period. Congratulations to the team manager, Narcos, and all of his teammates.

The Best Manager of the Period was Tets McGee, of team BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC, proving again that you can indeed win wi’ kids. His team of veteran players can consider themselves very unlucky to have finished fourth in the Period 4 H2H league – their combined scores in the H2H battles were second to none (1203 overall, averaging to 67 points!). Tets also managed his subs very well indeed. Tets is invited to be interviewed by Boris, on how he manages his team as well all things Fantasy Football. (I will be in touch)

Winners of the Classic league were Unbelievable Jeff FC, whose combined team scores added up to 19484 over the entire 22 match weeks, incredibly averaging to 59 points per player per week! But they only just pipped “15” Musketeers to the post – they scored a total of 19482, just two points shy! Congratulations to team manager Pirlo’s Pen and co.

The Top Scoring Player and the H2H Battle King ended up being the same player! Bury94 of team Slaven’s Ball-itch has had a cracking season thus far, currently boasts a rank of 109 in FPL. Bury94 was not only nominated to represent his team in ten H2H battles, he won seven of them and bagged a total of 19 bonus points, four more than any other player in the competition.

I wish I had prizes for you all, perhaps next season. For now, enjoy the glowing feeling of glory and pride.

Pundits Playoff Champions League (PPCL) Quarter-Finals

The quarter-finals will take place on Gameweek (GW) 35+, the semi-finals on GW37+ and the Final on GW38+. A reminder that the winner of the Final in the PPCL will win free membership to Fantasy Football Scout next season.

The following eight teams qualify for the PPCL – The Keane Fifteen, WhenTheOWENgetsTough, “15” Musketeers, Brazil Nuts, BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC, Unbelievable Jeff FC, Nirvana Scott Talent, and Blame it on Rio – and will face each other in the upcoming GW35+. Here are the fixtures:

  1. The Keane Fifteen vs Blame it on Rio
  2. WhenTheOWENgetsTough vs Nirvana Scott Talent
  3. “15” Musketeers vs Unbelievable Jeff FC
  4. Brazil Nuts vs BSC Small Boys (in the park) FC

The winners will progress to the PPCL Semi-Finals in GW. The two highest-scoring losers will progress to the PPYRL Semi-Finals, and the remaining two teams will go on to the wooden spoon matches.

Pundits Playoff You’re Ropey League (PPYRL) Quarter-Finals

The quarter-finals will take place on Gameweek (GW) 35+, the semi-finals on GW37+ and the Final on GW38+.

The following four teams have their quarter-finals in the same game week, 35+ – Holly’s Hamsters, A Whole Lawro B*llocks, Back to Square Owen and Slaven’s Ball-itch. Here are the fixtures:

  1. Holly’s Hamsters vs Slaven’s Ball-itch
  2. A Whole Lawro B*llocks vs Back to Square Owen

The winners will progress to the PPYRL Semi-Finals, the losers to the wooden spoon matches.

Knockout round scoring format

The H2H battles, that in the league stages have yielded as many as six bonus points to be added to the team’s league score, will stay in the knockout stages. However as the matches result in a team being knocked out of the competition, the winners of the H2H battles will gain extra points added to their team’s matchweek score, instead of bonus points added to the league table. The bonus scores available are as follows:

  • H2H A : an extra 30 points added
  • H2H B : an extra 20 points added
  • H2H C : an extra 10 points added

This makes the choosing of each team’s H2H battle champions a key part of attaining victory as there will be an extra 60 points available in each match, so team managers will need to be at the top of their game. Remember that players using either of the Triple Captain or Bench Boost chips will have their scores adjusted down so that no unfair advantage can be used. However, players using either their Wildcard and Free Hit chips will not have their scores adjusted.

The link to the main Google spreadsheet that has all the scores, results and league tables can be found here.

The live scores sheet is here.

Tune in next week for the results!

You're Ropey glory beckons for the hamsters. We were aiming for this trophy the entire time anyway.

Whole season has been a warm up to this chance to prove we are Ropey as hell.

Bring it on Ball-itch squad, Crabs are nothing compared to a well endowed hamster.

The OwenGetsTough team have gone all in by having several players take more than 12 point hits prior to the KO round to set themselves up while the Keane Fifteen have been chilling at the beach since the lockdown..

We have had a Leicester type of season edging out narrow victories in a "horses for courses" setting up of teams.. The overall scores have been lower and no stalwarts to take us through. Taking on FPL royalty like Lateriser or Mir also adds to the fun in this round..

We are the underdogs going into the KOs on form. Overall scores are generally not high.. Your H2H teams generally have an average of 80 or 70 points plus.. that will be tough to beat. Also with all the hits in the previous round, your team looks well set..

Should be interesting even if we bow out in this round..

It was great while it lasted.. that's it we are knocked out of the competition by the Antonio haul.. in the H2H A and H2H B plus overall 2 additional Antonio.. well played guys.. your hits to bring him in also worked..

Come on admit it.. 157 points up and we have 10 additional players.. we need 3 20 point hauls from players we have extra. The celebrations can begin at your end for sure.

Great work guys , and great fun. Cheers.

But , wow that is a sht tonne of weighting put on the outcome of just 3 h2h matches. Considering there's often no more than a smattering of points between the rest of the team scores.

In anything other than a 30/30 h2h split the cumulative team score is rather moot, wouldn't you think.

Wouldn't it be more a inclusive team result if the h2h scores were reduced to say 12/9/6 for instance.

Sort of defeats the object of having the H2H aspect - if it makes no difference there is no point.
As I say we believe we have the weighting right, but we may be proven wrong. Either way, at least it's the same rules for everyone.

        fingers crossed I guess
Proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

But I wouldn't say a slighly lesser score bonus would defeat object of the h2h. 12 or 15 additional points is ballanced and still a massive boost to the team score. It rewards a combined team effort of squad and h2h .

          We did a test with scores of 5 / 10 / 15.

    WhenTheOWENgetsTough (2) v Nirvana Scott Talent (7)

Latest situation by my calculations after autosubs, cancelling outs, etc.

    Overall match:
WTOGT: Boly; Dann; Martinez x 3; Justin x 2, Barnes; Maguire, Martial, Ings x 3
    NST: 39 points + Patricio x 2, Saiss x 5, Doherty x 2, Digne x 2, DCL; Vardy; DDG x 3, AWB, Rashford, Greenwood

    H2H:
30 pointer: WTOGT = 59(!) points + Dann. NST = Doherty, Saiss; Martinez; Martial.
20 pointer: WTOGT = 28 points + Bruno, Martial. NST = Digne; DDG.
10 pointer: WTOGT = AWB, Bruno, Rashford. NST = 37 points = Saiss, DCL; DDG, Martial.

Looks like the WTOGT FH'ers have locked in the first 2 H2Hs, with the 10 point H2H almost certainly going NST's way. This assumed 40 point advantage makes the overall match very close, effectively a 1 point WTOGT lead, but NST have 6 more differentials overall. NST's 9 Wolves defensive differentials against WTOGT's 1 Wolves defensive differential could go a long way to deciding the fate of this one.

      • 10 Years

We also have counted the same differentials. This match is so close. Everton and Sotty need to score for us. But I have a feeling this will be very close call and maybe a yellow card here and there can decide the fate of this tie. All the best.

As Keane15 are also crashing out we challenge them to a 1 v 1 all 15 players total h2h contest in the remaining fixtures. As we have been the best 2 teams throughtout the season , lets see who can finish better till the end. What do you say guys? You in?

Well played both teams. Nuts must be feeling very sorry for themselves with such a high score. I thought UJ had done well but your scores were incredible.

I’ve heard that the semifinals have been moved to week 37. In this age of misinformation is this true?

    Morning All

Due to GW start dates shifting around, the Semi-Finals of the Pundits Playoff will now take place on GW37+, instead of GW36+.
This is because GW36+ was originally down to start on Saturday 18th July, but it has since been moved to midweek starting Tuesday (tomorrow!), and now GW37+ starts on the 18th July.

This will give all the teams enough time to get their lineups ready in between Match Weeks.

RAE, could you please amend the article for me?

    I missed the dead line.
I've disgraced my team, my fam innit and my country.

I would just like to apologise to all involved in the competition, especially team Nirvana and the organisers.

I will not use any excuse including the fact the Illuminati have waged chemical warfare against us plebs before the impending alien invasion taking us all off guard.
Will try much harder in future competitions as a team player, if I can resolve my alcohol inspired lone wolf tendencies.
Big up for the organisers and orchestrators of this prestigious event.
    Always Nirvana x
