Fantasy Allsvenskan GW9 – Pre-match Preamble

A midweek round of fixtures that finally delivered some high scores for a large part of the community, especially those who elected to play the “Park the bus”-chip. Much like in Gameweek 6 (which would have been a disaster by the way), I considered pulling the trigger on that particular chip as well but eventually held off, as Djurgården’s Twitter confirmed just barely ahead of the deadline that Jonathan Augustinsson was indeed benched for Elliot Käck. Like our very own Bob Sacamano, that made me pull back from the idea and now I’m considering putting it to use in Gameweek 10 instead, assuming Djurgården releases the lineup ahead of the deadline yet again. Kudos to Cpt Crunch Scott Talent who got a huge score this week with a Par – 127!

We saw Sead Hakšabanović continue to deliver on a level far beyond this league, a true marquee signing by Norrköping, who looks to be a huge factor in their title challenge. Hammarby initially struggled (again) away to Kalmar but Paulinho and co upped their game quite a bit, showing encouraging signs ahead of a pretty interesting schedule. Häcken demolished an Elfsborg side who early on lost goalkeeper Tim Rönning to a strong migraine, odds are a 6-0 loss did little to ease his headache.

Malmö with the ever-present Anders Christiansen got another victory and they are now one of six clubs at 13 points, trailing league leaders Norrköping by 7 points. Much like in the fantasy game, it’s a tight playing field and a few good results can really put you in a great position going forward.

We are now in entering the third gameweek in the space of a week, and it’s not going to slow down anytime soon. Active management will most likely be rewarded, as we are looking at 8 Gameweeks in the space of just 29 days. Unfortunately, that also means that rotation is likely to continue being a factor, and the bench players need to be ready to jump into action if we’re faced with surprise injuries or rests. To deal with this, I have finally taken the time to throw out the failed wildcard inclusion Tim Prica, who has featured for a measly 67 minutes in 5 Gameweeks – luckily he’s never been called upon during this time in my side. Instead, I welcome Mamudo Moro, and I’m hoping he can bring a lot of Moro-points to my squad… I’m not even sorry for that one!

This coming gameweek we have an interesting captaincy debate as red hot Hakšabanović travel to Sirius while Christiansen entertains a horribly out of form Kalmar at home (assuming he starts). We also have the Hammarby midfielders Tankovic and Kačaniklić who both looked better in Gameweek 8, though their accuracy still needs to improve if they are to deliver anything like last season. My heart says captain Tankovic but my head says Hakšabanović, we’ll see which part wins out in the end.

Who’s looking to pull the trigger on a chip this week?

PTB likely (Lauritsen, Gerson, Bjornstrom, Witry, DIF). Will require a hit and benching HAM mid/Vecchia but fancy getting it out of the way - wc afterwards to clean up if necessary.

I like it! I'm thinking the same thing.

Unfortunately I brought Berg in last week.. but he's due a rest. So I'll have the first 4 like you and then Berg > DIF for a hit, I think.

Part of my rationale is Gerson's on 3 yc (1st suspension is 4 yc this season), so waiting could backfire when I need him.

Q - do you have an opinion on which of Tankovic or Kacaniklic to sell first. Neither has great form but decent 3 fixtures from 11-14. Leaning towards Kaca out right now, mostly on basis of Tankovic minutes, (elusive) penalty potential.

I think selling Tankovic first makes the most sense, that’s what I did this week. He’s 50/50 to leave or stay when contract expires in a few weeks. Kaca more direct in the penalty box, Tank shooting from distance.

I have not made up my mind yet. I fear a Castegren benching, and I am uncertain of Djurgårdens CS prospects with Berg benched.

Here is my backline: WItry, Lauritsen, Castegren, Bjornstrom, Ahmedhodzic.

              What is your thinking?

I like it though I’m not 100% convinced of Malmö’s CS-prospects. Castegren should play imo but maybe we’re lucky and get lineups a few mins pre-deadline

                  Cheers!

If would play the chip, it would be Ahmedhodzic out for probably a Djurgården defender with the one FT I have.

The thing is, I am not 100% convinced of using the chip this GW, even if it looks promising on paper.

            To PTB or not PTB?

This week seems like a potential week to play the park the bus chip.

Here is my backline:: Witry, Lauritsen, Castegren, Bjornstrom, Ahmedhodzic.

I have 1 FT and 1.8 in the bank

As discussed above, I fear a Castegren benching, and I am uncertain of Djurgårdens CS prospects with Berg benched.

However, I wonder if I should use my FT to keep or remove Kacaniklic for, say, Sugita, now that his loan contract has been extended. Hammarby have three nice fixtures after Malmo

I am undecided at the moment.

For me it's either 1) now inc DIF/NOR at home; 2) play it using other defences in upcoming weeks; 3) wait until much later in the season when form has settled. I'm going for better-the-devil but honestly not very confident.

I’m probably using PTB today, assuming I can get confirmation Augustinsson starts. I like the defs for attacking returns as much as CS really. Witry, Augustinsson, Lauritsen, Gerson, Björnsström

PTB for me with Gerson, Lauritsen, Witry, Augustinsson and Lofgren. On my way out and won't be back until after the deadline so it's in the laps of the Gods now.

If I could get line ups before the deadline, then my decision will be made easier.

Last week Djurgården leaked information about the Augustinsson benching 20 minutes before deadline (unfortunatly i missed it) and Norrköping have published line-ups 2-3 minutes before deadline, so I hope we can have som more information in the dying minutes there.

I'm parking the bus this week. I got the players I want, the fixtures are good so unluss something happens I'm pushing the buttom. Still very undecided about Ahmedhodzic and Björnström, one of them will go for Witry but as it feels now it's probably one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make in Allsvenskan fantasy. There are pros and cons for both, and looking at the odds they are exactly the same for clean sheets.

                    Thanks for the feedback!

Djurgården and Norrköping line-ups are the vital ones.

I agree that who to transfer out between Ahmedhodzic and Bjornstrom (provided Castegren starts in my case) will be the most tricky decision to make.

I've been (over)analyzing Björnström vs. Ahmedhodzic all week now, and as soon as I come up with something speaking in favour of one of them, something els pops up in favour of the other.

Ahmedhodzic: Bonus magnet. Malmö tend to tighten up against big teams, but have conceded goals in most games this season. Will probably play Lewicki in defence again. Hammarby have been awful all season and now probably miss Paulinho, Widgren and Andersen. They still have some quality players like Kacaniklic and Tankovic, although they havn't shown anything of that yet this season. Feels good to have x2p on a Mamö defender at home, but feels wrong to have it on a player facing Hammarby..

Björnström: Kalmar have scored in almost every game this season, but most goals from set pieces. In open play they look awful. Key players Elm and Fröling might be missing. I still find it so difficult to revaluate Sirius this season. They play well, defend well and have only conceded 2 goals in 4 away games. Kept a solid clean sheet against Hammarby away, and almost another one against AIK. Björnström is poor on bonus, so his points will rely more on a clean sheet or attacking returns. His attacking play is much dependent on having Vecchia on his wing, and it suffers a lot when Vecchia doesn't play. Vecchia has been injury prone his whole carrear and his minutes has been managed this season. When the schedule has been busy, Vecchia has only started every second game, and with Malmö waiting on sunday, I don't expect Vecchia to start against Kalmar.

I want them both long term, and whoever goes will come back in about 2-3 weeks. Will lose 0.1 on Ahmedhodzic and 0.3 on Björnström. Ahmedhodzic face Sirius and Göteborg away, while Björnström face Malmö (h) and Elfsborg (a).

After all this, it feels like it's....still exactly 50/50 between them 🙁

If pushed on most likely to score would still opt for Hammarby over Kalmar. Bjornstrom's potential for an attacking return adds to that, even if Vecchia only gets half a game.
But bps in this game makes the choice more difficult. On balance would prefer Bjornstrom for PTB this week but Ahmedodzic afterwards.

I like Björnström more purely on attacking intent. I get the Vecchia argument and it’s a valid one, yet I think it’s easy to overthink these kind of things as you say.

                      Thanks for the input!

I realize I overthink this way too much. Even if the one I go for doesn't keep a clean sheet, and the one I ship do, it's still only an 8p difference, and that's not something worth thinking this much about. What I do know is that I would feel much more regret missing out on a Björnström mega haul than an Ahmedhodzic 8p. My prediction for Ahmedhodzic is between 4-8p and Björnström 2-14p, so I'm leaning towards going with Björnström now.

It's just so difficult changing my mindset on teams this season. When I look at the upcoming games I think "Oh, I really want Ahmedhodzic in that easy game against Sirius, and I'll defenitly bench Björnström there"...that coming just 3 days after Sirius smashed Norrköping at home and Malmö just managed to grab 3p against Kalmar at home.

2 things to keep an eye on going forward albeit not just yet.

Nabil Bahoui is on AIK's squad today for the first time.
He will without a doubt be a big part in AIK's offensive game when up to speed and ready for full games.

Jakob Johansson finally back in squad for Gothenburg.
Again, when up speed he will be a big impact but on Gothenburgs defense.
For those waiting a bit longer with their PTB chip he will likely make Gothenburg an option. After all he is a Sweden international and without him we would have found it very hard getting into the last world cup and had it not been for his cruciate ligament injury he would have been a shoe in for us during the WC. Very injury prone though.

                    Thanks!

Jakob Johansson is a quality player and will surely stablize things at Göteborg. Still, the defence is kind of a mess with players injuried, suspended and rotated so unless the manage to nail down a back four, I'm steering clear.

Bahoui on the other hand is very intresting! Top quality player and the kind of player that AIK desperatly need right now. A little worried though, as we've seen this all before. Bahoui coming back from injury, plays well, gets heavily rotated and then picks up another injury. If he can stay fit and pick up some form, he looks like the ideal replacement for my Besara punt in 2-3 weeks time. AIK got great fixtures coming up soon!

                      AIK XI against Häcken:

                      Haugaard
                      Lundström - Karlsson - Tihi - Lindqvist - Kahl
                      Larsson - Michel - Hussein - Rashidi
                      Abraham

Not sure that's exactly how they will play though, it was hard to figure out a system with 7 defenders...

I had to chose between Besara and Vecchia and ended up leaving Vecchia on the bench too. After his performance against Norrköping, and with Malmö waiting at home this weekend, I'm very doubtful that he'll start, or play more than 45 minutes. With Besara I'll hopefully get 90 minutes and set pieces at least.

Ooh a nice match up between GN and Bob this week, who will end up having made the right call?!

And why haven't we set up a h2h league?

I'll sure be doing that next season.

Haha, counting the points afterwards, probably GN, but as I've written in another post, I could not have had better conditions beforehand, and can have no regrets even if it all screws up. I did miss out on the GW8 PTB, but I also contemplated using PTB in GW9 which would have been a complete disaster (Norrköping, AIK, Malmö).

Great idea with the h2h league, looking forward to it!

Phew, close call but line-ups confirmed and PTB locked! Good luck to all of you, those who played a chip and those who decided to wait.

With the risk of having to eat my own words in an hour or two, I can have absolutely no regrets about this. Even if all my defenders concede goals, I could not have made a better choice beforehand. I got the defenders I want, from the teams I want, with great fixtures and I got 4/5 confirmed starters before I pushed the button. Hoping for the best now!

                        Thanks guys!

I know it's a cliché, and I don't wanna jinx myself, but IF I can get a complete hit this week, it would make up for most of the errors so far, and I'll jump straight into at least the top 500. If it's a disaster, I wouldn't say the season is over, but I'll probably have to settle with where I am right now (around 3000).

Can also add that it's a great feeling having it locked down. I now have 20 gameweeks where I don't have to prepare for a chip, and I wont have to sit a minute before deadline waiting for line-ups with my heart beating like crazy...

Doesn't matter much though as he seems to prefer the extra time penalty.

That's an extremly odd transfer to make. He's been out of the team since Nilsen came back, and he could easily afford Väisinen or Johan Larsson instead.

88p with 4 players to go, including Björnström x2. Enough to take me from a OR just inside 3000 to just inside 300. A total of 9 clean sheets, a doubbled Lauritsen goal, an Irandust assist and a whole bunch of defensive bonus points doubbled.

On top of that, a strong team for next week and 2FT.

Think I'll be looking at a reshuffle of funds.
AC doesn't seem worth it now that Toivonen have come in.

AC averages 7 points per game since Toivonen has returned, which is the best form (5-matches period) among the MIDs.

Sounds like a very, very bad idea to me. AC remains the best player in Allsvenskan and a superb fantasy option. To use another 1.0 to get a potential 6-7 points from Toivonen makes little sense to me.

He meant that since Toivonen's been playing, AC isn't that good. But yeah, AC is a must-have.

Ah, sorry, didn't get that. But as you have already pointed out, AC's point average has still been great since Toivonen came. If anything, AC should benefit even more by playing with a quality player like Toivonen.

Yeah this. And what I'll be looking at isn't to better or at least match AC's points by getting another mid.
But I do think it might be possible to better the points total by getting a cheaper mid and a more expensive forward than those I have(AIK Abraham, Sylisufaj and Seljmani).

For now it's just a thought and I'll most likely follow my current plan of getting Ludwigsson(however badly Hammarby looks Ludwig actually tries) without moving AC.

In any case Toivonen steels AC's thunder to an extent.

No fan of Holmberg eighter, think he's a very average footballer. IKT and Nyman are both better picks, but I'm generally no fan of spending 10.0+ on players with no bonus potential and who never returns more than 6p.

I recognize your thoughts about Hammarby, I was thinking the same 5-6 gameweeks ago. "Just another game" and "Now will be the turning point"....the truth is they are absolutely terrible, and no turning point seems to be at the horizon. 11th in the league with 9 goals scored in 10 games is not misleading, if anything it's flattering for them. I would defenitly lose Kacaniklic now. Bergman Johannesson could be an option if looking to downgrade. Getting a 3rd Norrköping player like Castegren, Bergman or Nyman should be top priority IMO.

I also think Hägg Johansson is an issue. Kalmar is the worst team in the league by some distance, and there are plenty of better options out there, some even cheaper than him, like Rönning.

Looks like a great move to me, but as an Elfsborg supporter I might be a little biased. He was brilliant last season, and has been very good so far this season, just very ineffective.

It looks so intresting that I might have to tinker a little with my own team to see if I can fit him in somehow.

Thoughts on J. Karlsson vs Söderlund (when he's back). I see the former as more of a work-horse who should do even better for bonus than he is (but a bit ineffective) and the latter as a player who won't get much bonus but who is surrounded by players that should lead to more goals and assists.

That's an intresting comparasion, and a fair analysis. I've always been sceptical to premium strikers in Allsvenskan fantasy, but must admit I'm probably wrong there. I still don't think there's enough value in players like IKT, Nyman or Toivonen as theire price tag eats up too much of the budget, usually only returning about 5-6 points. But in the cheaper premium bracket there might be some good value in players like Paka, Söderlund and Karlsson.

Like I've said, I might be slightly biased about Karlsson, but he really is a top class players. He's on most set pieces, shoots more than anyone els in the league, and I think he's been a little unfortunate not to score more points so far. He clearly suffers from a rather poor attacking environment, but this could be the start of a good run for him. Adding fixtures and game time, I'd pick him over Söderlund right now.

Yeah I like Söderlund, Jesper Karlsson and to a certain extent Kharaishvili, if he can get back to it. Might have some Kaca money to burn soon! If Karlsson gets a bit more clinical he’s very interesting.

Ended up with 104p, slightly disappointed and not enough to get into the top 500. Going for Björnström over Ahmedhodzic and benching Vecchia cost me 16p and about 300 places. Was planning to use 1FT on Augustinsson out for Larsson/Väisinen before I get Ahmedhodzic back in, but might use my second FT as well since I already can't stand the sight of Besara. Not sure on who to bring in though.

There are limited midfield options, but Sugita is one I would consider for Besara, even if it means a double up with Vecchia and Sirius face Malmo next. Sirius have impressed. I have walked the talked and transferred Sugita in for Kacaniclic, whose miss yesterday illustrates the complete loss of form.

                            Thanks!

Yep, got Haksabanovic, AC, Irandust and Vecchia. Not sure about a Sirius doubble-up, as I also got triple Elfsborg who'll they face in GW12. I could keep Besara, I'll bench him this week anyway, and he then faces Falkenberg at home. It's just so frustrating watching to watch a brilliant attacking player being utilized as almost a CB.

Options in midfield are few. I probably could go for Ulvestad, but it feels like a boring pick. Intrested in Bahoui, but he's just back from injury and AIK are terrible right now.

I was all over Besara, even at that price. Then I noticed how he's being utilised in an already not especially attacking Örebro side - had to get rid. I rate him highly though, just think he would be better at almost any other club.

Bahoui is always on my radar but I'm worried about it turning into a situation much like last season, where he's back but not really and I end up investing both time and points in getting him in and out. I think I'd want to see him start 2-3 games in a row before investing, and that's looking unlikely with the continued tight schedule.

Completely agree about Besara and Bahoui.

I made another plan which looks good. Will keep Besara for Falkenberg (h) and then swap him for Sugita, which will then allow me to upgrade Frick to Jesper Karlsson. Hopfully I'll be ablw to stick with it.

One thing that's been very odd for me this season is that I've had exremly few problems with injuries and suspensions, and also had few players that I feel I must sign or must get rid of. That has allowed me to not take any hits, always carry 2FT and at one or two occations even waste a FT because I don't feel any need to use it.

As suggested by General Nuisance and Bob Sacamano, I’ll likely transfer out JVP to Räisänen this GW, with one FT left. Are there any news as to Widgren’s availability, or should I look at options? I’m tempted to play PTB soon.

Also, Tankovic isn’t delivering. Is it crazy to downgrade him to one of the Sirius mids?

As a Hammarby supporter and an avid Tankovic-backer... Yes, it's time to ship him - with a caveat. The squad is completely out of shape and Tankovic might be leaving in a few gameweeks. He's not doing the things he did well at the start of last season, rather he's doing exactly what he did in the end (shooting from distance) but not hitting the target. It's more than a slump in form, something is way off.

That said, the three games coming up (Örebro H, Helsingborg a, Falkenberg H) is probably some of the best games for potential points even for a terrible Hammarby side. I'd probably still want to hold on for one more GW and then maybe make the switch, Sirius fixtures from 13-16 look superb (maybe even all the way to 18).

I got rid of Tankovic last week as they were facing Malmö and I needed the money for Berg-->Witry, no regrets. But I also still have Kacaniklic and Ludwigson so my Hammarby share is still probably too big, which will be adjusted in the coming weeks.

Didn't know he might be leaving Hammarby this summer. Has his contract run out, or is there a club he's likely to leave for?

Hammarby has been disappointing so far, but you bring up a good point about those fixtures. Malmö might be a tricky fixture for Sirius too, so there's a case for keeping him one more GW, then shipping him out for a Sirius mid (or another mid that looks a decent option).

Thanks! That's something to keep an eye on. I imagine he won't be benched as a result of his contract situation being up in the air though.

Yeah, Ludwigsson seems to pick up the points still. As for Tankovic, there are the fixtures ahead that makes keeping him for one more gameweek an option, but I am definitely considering going Hammarby-less going forward (I still have Widgren too).

For a short term punt, is Johan Larsson (if fit) a better pick than Widgren?

                      Larsson:
                      Varberg (h)
                      Sirius (h)

Both look good. I reckon with Widgren is more likely to get 2CS but Larsson more likely to get some attacking returns. I just don't like that Sirius game, they've been very impressive from what I've seen!

Agree on that. Sirius are however a different team away from home, having scored just 5 in 5, blanking in two of them. Elfsborg are very solid at the back, and have kept clean sheets against Malmö and Djugården at home. Could also keep Augustinsson but that would mean doubble Djurgården defence against AIK (if he even plays) and throwing away a FT.

Any tips on how and when to use the 2x fwds chip? I've had a look at the fixtures and playing it on a fwd line with 3 of Nyman, seljmani, ludwigsson, P. Abraham in gw12 looks quite good

My general view on that chip is to just play it when it feels right, and don't adjust the team too much for it. Forwards are usually so low scoring that it's hard to get any great score out of the chip.

I guess an ideal combination would be when all your strikers have a decent fixture, and there's no other obvious captain choice who'll you miss out on. If you can get Nyman, Selmani and Ludwigsson for GW12 I think it's a great option. You'll miss out on a Haksabanovic captaincy, but that's just something you'll have to accept.

I'd obviously wanna use the chip when owning premium strikers, but I'm reluctant to change my whole team structure just to get 1-2 expensive strikers in for a specific gameweek. I'm currently looking at GW17.

                        Jesper Karlsson - Östersund (h)
                        Paulos Abraham - Helsingborg (h)
                        Selmani - Örebro (h)

That would allow me to keep my current structure, and the only change I need to do is my planned Frick --> Karlsson move in a few weeks time.

I have Selmani on the bench right now, as you'd expect Ahmedhodzic to play full 90 mins. I'm also trying to decide if I should transfer out Tankovic for Sugita, and if I do, I will have to play Selmani.

I see! Tankovic has good fixtures coming up but poor form. Sugita has good form but a poor fixture (on paper). I still think Sugita will end up on the score sheet.

It wouldn't surprise me if Sugita ends up on the score sheet. It's just a question if Ahmedhodzic might get a few defensive points to add to his gameweek score. I recon Selmani needs to play more than he did the last game to equal that.

Like Bob says, Ahmedhodzic is good on bonus and could end up on 4 points even with no clean sheet. Also, you could consider ownership. I do think that this will be an open ended affair like Sirius vs Norrköping and that both teams will score.

Selmani was rested last game week and could en up with a fluke penalty. Also, Elfsborg’s defence while good is also overperforming a bit.

Yes, ownership is an additional factor to consider. Benching him could be risky for that reason alone. I agree that this might be a fixture with goals both ways. Wish I had a way of watching that game!

Löfquist has a great fixture, and Ahmedhodzic should be good for 4p just by playing 90 minutes, so I'd bench Selmani.

Yes, I imagine Ahmedhodzic might pick up a few additional defensive points to his score. Selmani's playing time is something to consider too of course, as he only played 26 mins against Norrköping.

I had exact funds to do J V Persson to Väisänen with one of my two FTs, so the question now is really if I should keep faith in Tankovic managing something this GW or not – or do the Sugita transfer regardless of the fixture.

                      Which player to start?

Hello everyone! I hope everyone have settled on their team. I have a tricky final selection to make, with every option less than optimal as it will lead to an attacker face a defender - and vice versa. At any rate, should I hedge my bets or go for the highest points potential when picking one of the following three players:

                      1) Paulos Abraham
                      2) Astrit Selmani
                      3) Axel Björnström

                      May your arrows be green!

I just swapped Björnström out of the starting line-up in favour of Moro, as I dug myself into Björnström stats more and he has been less dangerous in the last 5 rounds than the first 5. The clean sheet would be a miracle; Malmö has the lowest xGA; he has decreasing form and gained only 1 defensive bonus - to sum it up, we expect him to give an assist or to score a goal which is quite unlikely.

I think many of us are in the same situation, and I'm defenitly playing Björnström. He could always offer attacking returns even if they don't keep a clean sheet, and if they do AC can always offer bonus points even if Malmö don't score.

Selmani can only offer you goals, and if he scores your Elfsborg clean sheet will be wiped out, so in that case you can't have it both ways.

In the situation AIK are in right now, Abraham is not option to me, so I'd go for Björnström.

Cheers!p, Bob! I agree, an assist or goal is probably what can be (hopefully) expected from Bjornstrom.

AIK seem to go from poor to worse, and even if it is a derby, a turnaround is perhaps too much to hope for at the moment.
