Vote for the best FPL goalkeeper of 2019/20

The Fantasy Football Scout end of season awards have officially been launched with the first poll now available to vote in.

As ever, we begin with the goalkeepers, assessing the key candidates on the strengths of their 2019/20 from a Fantasy Football perspective.

Overall points, price and value in Fantasy Premier League are all factors to consider.

It must be said that the goalkeeper position was a tricky one to navigate once again this season, although for completely different reasons than the previous campaign.

In 2018/19, the high-performing assets were largely more expensive ones from big clubs. But their respective sides, of course, required attention in other positions and most of the budget options proved reliable only for short spells at a time.

Arguably, 2019/20 was the complete opposite. This time around, the expensive premium options failed to provide the usual level of consistent returns allowing some of the cheaper mid-price assets to assume ‘set-and-forget’ status. Although, even then, it was a somewhat underwhelming year for goalkeepers in the £4.5m price bracket…

2018/19 Team of the Season Review – Goalkeeper

  • Goalkeeper: Alisson
  • Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Matt Doherty
  • Midfielders: Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling, Ryan Fraser, Eden Hazard
  • Forwards: Raúl Jiménez, Sergio Aguero
→ Which team has allowed the fewest number of big chances this season (41)?

After securing a place in the 2018/19 Team of the Season, Alisson did not have the best follow-up campaign.

2019/20 began in the worst way possible for Liverpool’s goalkeeper, as he picked up an injury just 38 minutes into the Gameweek 1 win over Norwich City.

Even though that unlocked Adrian as a £4.5m option in the Reds’ defence, they still only kept two clean sheets from a possible nine before Alisson’s return.

And even the Brazilian’s comeback did not help stop the rot at the back as Jurgen Klopp’s men struggled to match the defensive heights of 2018/19, ironic considering they ended up winning the league this year.

After collecting 21 clean sheets during his first campaign in English football, it took Alisson until Gameweek 16 to secure one in 2019/20. With issues elsewhere in the defence, despite a return from injury in Gameweek 9, he went another seven matches before earning that all-important shut-out.

In the end, Alisson did manage to get a total of 13 but, as is to be expected with a big club, he could only supplement this with 58 saves.

Therefore, it was a score of just 122 points this season, 54 fewer than the year before. It also made for an inferior points-per-game total, Alisson averaging 4.2 in 2019/20 compared to 4.6 in 2018/19.

2019/20 CANDIDATES

DEAN HENDERSON

It was quite the debut campaign in the Premier League for Dean Henderson, whose total of 160 points was the second-highest among goalkeepers, making him a rare shining light among a drab £4.5m bracket.

With four double-figure hauls between Gameweeks 18 and 30+, that impressive overall score came from a total of 13 clean sheets, an impressive tally for a newly-promoted shot-stopper, as well as 16 bonus points and 97 saves.

Those additionals carried mixed value for Fantasy managers. While the 16 from bonus was the third-best in the division, eight different shot-stoppers produced more stops than Henderson.

It is that fact that probably denied the Sheffield United man the prize of highest-scoring FPL goalkeeper, but Fantasy managers should consider the quality of saves Henderson made this season, especially as he could be fighting for starts at Manchester United in 2020/21.

Across the course of this season, the Blades’ goalkeeper recorded an xG Prevented score of +8.30, behind only Hugo Lloris (+9.50). That means the saves he did make were mostly from very high-quality chances. Combining that with Manchester United’s 36 goals conceded in 2019/20 (third-best) could be a powerful pairing next year.

RUI PATRÍCIO

2019/20 was a season of improvement for Wolves’ defence, which was good for the roughly 10% of managers who backed Rui Patrício.

During their debut Premier League campaign, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were certainly adept at keeping things tight at the back but they often struggled to convert this into clean sheets.

With just eight shut-outs in 2018/19, Wolves’ second season in the top-flight saw a continuation of astute defensive play but, largely thanks to Willy Boly’s return from injury, there was a much more mature approach to closing this out into clean sheets.

It was 13 of these, in the end, of Patrício, the joint-third-best in the Premier League.

That was enough for 153 points across the campaign, the fourth-highest among goalkeepers.

However, what hindered the Portuguese international from taking his Fantasy value to the next level, perhaps combined with his starting price of £5.0m, was the lack of additionals.

With Wolves playing a style of football that largely protects the goalkeeper, he managed only 90 saves and eight points from bonus.

NICK POPE

Even though he missed out on a share of the Golden Glove, 2019/20 was still an incredible campaign for Nick Pope, the only other £4.5m option to offer real prolonged value across the season.

16 clean sheets for Burnley, the club’s highest ever tally in a top-flight season and second only to Ederson this year, was the lynch-pin of Pope’s 170-point score, his best-ever.

But it was the additionals that made the difference for the Clarets’ rapidly improving shot-stopper.

His 120 saves was the fourth-highest in the division while nobody in the same position came close to matching his 23 bonus points.

Pope really does offer the complete package for goalkeepers. Some offer clean sheets without much prospect for saves or bonus, while others can secure those additionals on account of facing more shots but, inevitably, this means fewer shut-outs.

With Burnley’s style of play, which does allow plenty of attempts on goal to their opponents, helps Pope register saves and bonus, but because they are good at limiting these shots to outside of the box, the clean sheets are also much more achievable.

The question now is whether or not this will still constitute value for money in 2020/21 when Pope is likely to be as expensive as £5.5m.

AARON RAMSDALE

While not hitting the dizzy heights of Pope and Henderson, there was something on offer from £4.5m option Aaron Ramsdale for spells in 2019/20.

A total score of 126 points across the campaign does not look too special on the surface but it was good enough to finish in the top-five for the Value (Season) statistic on the official FPL site, working out at 28.6 points per million spent.

Bournemouth’s perennially porous defence allowed Ramsdale to rack up 128 saves, more than Pope and behind only Martin Dúbravka and Tim Krul in the overall standings.

The autumn was when Bournemouth’s goalkeeper was the most popular. Between Gameweeks 6 and 12, the Cherries kept three clean sheets and Ramsdale scored 41 points across the seven matches.

Averaging 5.9 points per game during this period, he also added an assist into the mix, one of just three goalkeepers to register one in 2019/20.

Ramsdale’s efforts have been good enough to earn transfer rumours of a purported move to stay in the Premier League despite Bournemouth’s relegation. Depending on what the future holds for him, Fantasy managers would do well to keep an eye on him moving forward…

MAT RYAN

It was another solid if not spectacular year for Mat Ryan, who was somewhat overshadowed in the £4.5m bracket by Pope and Henderson.

135 points was only just good enough for the top 10 among goalkeepers, and lower than his personal best of 146 during his debut campaign, but there was still something on offer for his 11.5% ownership.

Allowing greater spending elsewhere, the Brighton goalkeeper finished in the top five for points per million spent, his score of 28.7 beaten only by Patrício, Henderson and Pope.

It was also a top-five finish for Ryan’s total of 117 saves and 14 bonus. It was perhaps clean sheets where he came up short compared to the high-performers, with a total of just nine.

However, there is potentially a lot to like about the Australian for 2020/21, who might just be able to stay in the £4.5m bracket for a fourth successive season. If he can sustain his level of saves and bonus with greater conversion rate on the clean sheets could come a landmark season for Ryan.

KASPER SCHMEICHEL

Despite the disappointing finish to the campaign for Leicester City, Kasper Schmeichel was an important Fantasy asset during the first half.

In the first 15 Gameweeks of 2019/20, the Foxes’ shot-stopper produced seven clean sheets, two more than any other during that period. At the end of the campaign, his total of 13 was the third-best in the division.

Eventually, both Pope and Henderson overtook his season score and Schmeichel ended up finishing in third-place among goalkeepers, 156 points his best-ever FPL return.

His starting price of £5.0m and the cheaper option of Caglar Soyuncu in the same defence did stop the former Manchester City man from ever soaking up humongous levels of ownership but for a prolonged period he was one of the most reliable goalkeepers of 2019/20.

That final GW of FPL with all the Liv benchings and badluck to not be able to reach FFS website due to server issues and FPL website transfers not going through even though it was under deadline helps to leave this game without regrets as its a gentle reminder that luck still plays a major part however good you are. Regardless an HOF rating of top 500 leaves a satisfying calm. It was great playing the game but now time to move on 🙂

Lallana in my bench for next season (if he costs 6.0 or less) he can be a gem

6m is too much for the bench (and that's the price I expect him to come in as)

I like my bench to be impoverished. You want all of your budget in play, getting you points, not sitting on your bench.

Magnus does the same. He started with 4.0 - 4.5 - 4.0 - 4.5 on his bench. I guess it's a similar concept to developing your pieces in chess - the idea being that all pieces need to be involved and affecting the play. You're hindering yourself leaving any on the back row.

I learned that you have to own at least one rotation pair for ex 4.5m Def with Lallana and play them week in week out

Yeah, a cheap rotation pair at the start can free up some money early on until you build up some team value.

My personal rule is to get the cheapest possible bench that is nailed on to start so they can step in for ~2pts or cover bad fixtures. Except maybe the backup goalkeeper, he doesn't need to start...

A note on rotations though, I find they don't last long. If something unexpected happens you're stuck with crappy players stinking up the team because you can't find the transfers to remove them.

Whereas a weak bench will stay useful all the way through, no matter what happens. It always serves its purpose by freeing cash and giving you financial flexibility with your XI. Giving yourself flexibility and options is important to help you adapt to the volatile environment of FPL.

It feels like Brighton will improve next season. Players like Lallana and Ben White will make sure of that. I'm sure Potter will have the opportunity to get a few more players in, that will fit better into his system than a number of players in the current squad.

Ben White might not even be first team at Brighton. He enjoys Bielsa's system and would take time to under Potters one.

Brighton have 3 solid CB in Webster, Dunk and Duffy. Don't see him replacing either 1 currently.

          Duffy has barely played...

And if Ben White could be sold to a big club, my guess he'll have a great shot at being first choice at Brighton?

Either way, Brighton is in a great position here! Sell him for a big chunk of cash or play him and improve the defence!

Hey everyone, I haven't seen any write-ups about Leeds atm so maybe I'll just potentially cover some options next season with some price predictions. There's still a lot of unknowns regarding our transfers atm but all this information will come from the last 2 seasons. We are currently linked to a few defenders due to White's loan situation but I'll exclude that for now. Defensively, Leeds conceded 35 goals in the season which is the least in the entire division. If I'm not wrong Casilla kept 15 clean sheets before his ban and Meslier kept 6 in 9 games thereafter.

    GOALKEEPERS
    GK: Meslier (Price Prediction: 4.0m)
A young goalkeeper that was signed on loan from Lorient and signed a 3 year deal just last week. Came in during the period where Kiko Casilla was suspended (racism) and kept 6 clean sheets in 9 games (4 goals conceded in the process). Good with the ball (which is what Bielsa demands for his goalkeeper) and strong in the air. The downside with him is that it's still an unknown whether he would be first choice next season as Martinez / Gunn / Romero are heavily linked in the recent few weeks.

Kiko Casilla (Price Prediction: 4.5m if he isn't sold by then)
I don't see much future for him anymore in Leeds after the ban and high profile mistakes this and last season. Stay clear of this unless Bielsa says otherwise. Most likely played his last game for Leeds against Derby last week.

    DEFENDERS
Luke Ayling (4 goals 4 assist) - Price Prediction: 4.5-5m (Most likely 5m)
A starter in almost every game this season, Ayling is versatile and leads from the back, be it from CB / RB / RWB under Bielsa system. Comfortable with the ball and very attack-minded. Reminds me of Doherty and his style of attack-minded wing-back. Could have gotten more assists if Bamford / Roberts could actually finish. Overlaps with Costa constantly during games. He is the one person in Leeds that I'm very interested in for my FPL team next season.

Stuart Dallas (5 goals 3 assist) - Price Prediction: 4.5-5m (Most likely 5m)
Where do I start with Dallas.. He is an interesting prospect as he almost played more than 7 positions in Leeds this season (LB CB CDM CM RB RM LM). Functions very well with Bielsa current system and seems to be the trusted alternative for Douglas at LB. It will be interesting to see whether FPL lists him as a defender or midfielder. I suspect he will be listed as a defender next season, and would be a good option if done so.

Liam Cooper (2 goals) - Price Prediction 4.5m
Our captain fantastic, had a lot of stick after last season's collapse at Derby, and still prone to errors here and there. However, under Bielsa, he has improved leaps and bounds and has lead the team from the back the whole season. Missed several games due to injury, but his record is still quite solid. With regards to goal threat.. don't expect much. Leeds had the most corners/crosses last season but only scored 1 directly from a corner (Tyler Roberts) and 2 in-directly (which is embarrassing really). Unless something really changes with regards to Leeds set pieces, I wouldn't get him for someone who would get a lot of goals next season.

Ben White (1 goal) - Price Prediction 4.5m-5m
What else is needed to be said about White. Leeds fans don't want him to go but he is linked to almost every top 6 team currently and I foresee Brighton selling him for 25-30m when the window opens. A newbie with experience in League 1 previously, he fitted amazingly in Bielsa system and was ever-present in the team (played every game in the season) replacing Jansson who was sold to Brentford. Great tackler, hardworking and confident with the ball and bombs forward to help with the build-up play. Don't see him in Leeds next season sadly so I'll stop the write up here..

Alioski (5 goals 3 assist) - Price Prediction: 4.5 - 5m (Most likely 5m or higher if listed as MF)
Ah our clubs nuthead. He has his own twitter hashtag pre match and he brings the players together with his antics. Shows the same level of commitment on the field, though he is not a defender by trade. Bielsa plays him interchangeably at LB, LM, LW the whole season. When called upon, he has delivered with very important goals for us. Not too sure whether he will be a starter next season and also whether he would even be listed as a defender. I don't have the current data on how many games he played this season, but when I do, I will update you guys

    Berardi (-) Price Prediction: 4-4.5m
I don't think we will see him playing next season as he just suffered from ACL tear and will be out for 6-9 months. Reliable back up whenever Cooper was injured.

    Douglas (-) Price Prediction: 4.5m
Came in with a lot of fanfare after his performances in Wolves when they got promoted and had tons of assists. Sadly, has yet to replicate similar form as LB and usually comes off the bench in some games. Will stay clear of him for now. Dallas and Alioski are in front of him for his LB position.

Hope everyone enjoyed the write-up, sorry if I could not throw more statistics inside, I hope to do so soon. This is really from a fan's perspective, the more detailed one will have a post by itself I suppose? Bielsa mentality is really passing from the back so the entire backline has to be good on their feet and have good ball control and vision. Performed really well defensively in Championship so let's hope it transitions into EPL next season. #MOT

TLDR for this post: I would highly recommend Ayling for next season if you are looking for a Leeds defender. Meslier too but it all depends on whether Leeds sign a number 1 during the window.

Some of the data might be incorrect but my POV is taken from over 40/46 games this season that I watched them play. The rest were highlights for the midnight games I missed.

Let me know if you guys want another write up for the midfield and attacking options. (less said the better tbh)

He even won Goal of the season. He's really an attacking threat and good defensively. The numbers doesn't do his gameplay justice but hopefully helps to reduce the focus on him to give him 4.5m price next season

I'll try my best really. The lesser said about our attacking options the better tbh. There should be a legit article coming out soon enough I hope, but my input is purely from a fan's perspective while that will focus more on stats. Would be nice if they actually get supporters who know the club and players to write the articles.

There's so much potential in attacking threat for the WBs in Leeds, we just need a goalscorer.

That uncertainty in goal is a pain - more so as the window runs so long into the season.

Ayling and Dallas to be Doh and Jonny? If so the trick will be choosing Doh and not Jonny!!!

Bielsa methods usually take players a long time to get used to. So if they do want a number 1 stopper they would need to sign him within 1 month, like with all positions to get used to the style of play.

Ayling feels a bit like Doherty, but of course the numbers don't back his case up. Tbh, it's all because of our attackers that the stats are not amazing like wolves. Our conversion rate is one of the worst in the league over the past 2 seasons.

          Yep

Don't follow nearly as closely as you but have taken quite a bit of interest in Leeds this season and last. I'm guessing too that Bielsa methods will mean there's relatively light turnover immediately

Bielsa methods are crazy tbh. I don't expect many of our summer signings to start the first game just because they aren't used to the system. If a player isn't fit/plays to Bielsa style, he will not start.

Last year was heartbreaking to watch, and I did fear the same coming into the last 10 games of the season, but thankfully the enforced break helped, and the players showed the character that seemed missing last season.

I was waiting to see what FFS write but wasn't too sure when the article will be posted so decided to give my input as a fan. Yes the gk situation is a bit of an unknown atm. As much as we think Meslier is ready (watch his FA cup performance vs arsenal), throwing a 20 year old with relatively no experience in EPL with so much at stake is risky.

Worked out for Hendo last season tho. Meslier will be minimum 4.5, prob 5m though.
Given the time it takes to adopt Bielsa's philosophy, any pick would have to be well-grounded, so no new signing. I guess only 3 are viable: Meslier, Ayling and Dallas from what you write.

He won't be 5m since he only started 9 games in the season. It all depends on how much research FPL Towers do on Leeds. As long as Kiko is still there when the prices are released, Meslier would always be the cheap option.

I'm banking on 4m, though yes it could swing to 4.5m which tbh I would find unfair.

Even as a Leeds fan I'll just go with Meslier and Ayling. Ayling is a sure starter in the team. It all depends how Dallas is classified also in the game

Okay, well at 4.5m I might take him along with Pope.
Ayling and Dallas ought to be 4.5, like Baldock and Egan were at Blades. I'd take one at that price too.

Yeah if they are both priced at 4.5m I would take Ayling. If Meslier is 4.5m and still under threat, I might avoid altogether. As much as Leeds defence is good.... I wouldn't double up on them just yet.

5.0 is too strong surely for any Leeds keeper.

Pat came in at 4.5 no? Guaita was also 4.5 and came in having the best stats in Spain bar Madrid and Barcelona

Hence I'm thinking Kiko at 4.5m and Meslier at 4m.

Kiko might have gotten 5m if he played the whole season and got 20+ CS which in the end we did but split. Thankfully I doubt I'll ever see him in goal ever.

You're welcome! Yeah I'm hoping Ayling is 4.5m but not sure if they would cut him some slack with the pricing. I assumed Doherty was 5m when he first came into EPL?

Doherty was 4.5m, although Douglas had much better stats in the championship and was priced at 5m.

Best to compare with Sheff Utd. Stevens started at 5m with the others at 4.5 apart from the never-to-be-repeated anomoly of the Lord at 4m!

I'm not sure if his current championship stats are defined as score and assist heavily.. But yes I do agree there's a huge possibility of him being priced at 5m sadly.

Would need some data from Sheff players and Wolves players from previous seasons to see the pricing style.

        You're welcome!

I think there's more hope defensively than offensively sadly. Finishing has been an issue and still will be an issue moving forward unless we get a top top striker. Bamford helps our all-round play but I can't see him scoring 10 goals next season.

The only 2 attackers I might recommend is Harrison (6 goals 8 assists) and Pablo Hernandez (9 goals 9 assists). The downside with Hernandez is his age.. but off the bench he is amazing.

I'm planning to Monitor Klich price also (6 goals 5 assists), if he's < 5.5m he might be a good backup option.

I think Bielsa's philosophy is there's no 1 bigger player in the team. We had to grind some results, but honestly, if we had better finishing, at least 4-5 players should have gotten double-digit assists/goals. But we are Leeds and never do it the easy way as usual.

I would wait out for our summer signings to see who we plan to get as our Striker.

        You're welcome man!

Regarding chances... I'm quietly optimistic. I don't see us doing a Norwich tbh. I would like a midtable finish (12-13 would be ideal). It all depends on how fast the team picks up on Bielsa playing style. No EPL team plays like that and that confidently and fluidly also. Just watch the FA cup game against Arsenal for some reference - and that was our reserve team btw.

We need a striker and someone younger to replace Pablo Hernandez long term + Ben White's replacement. Once we get this 3, we SHOULD be safe next season.

Bielsa's side have long had a reputation of conking out before the season ends. I suspect Covid prevented that happening this time. Hopefully fewer PL matches mean they'll stay the course. I suspect other sides will expect them to be a second Blades and be better prepared to not underestimate Leeds; I'm thinking Blades and Whites will occupy 13th-14th places.

I thought it was a myth until I saw how last season ended. It was a nightmare to watch. That and our dreadful finishing. The irony was that we sold Roofe who really saved us last season and Jansson who we thought was loco but amazing as a defender and performed better..

I think we must be mindful not to link Leeds to Sheff. Very different playing style but I foresee us sticking with 3/4 of our squad and not pulling a Villa for sure.

I wouldn't mind ppl underestimating Leeds though, would be fun to watch next season.

I don't mean Blades and Whites' playing styles are similar. I mean purely that Blades were tipped to be out of their depth and finish 20th, so teams were caught out by them being more competent than expected. Hence Leeds will be less underestimated next season.

With Bielsa sadly every team will want to whack us. But if we could hold our weight (second string) against Arsenal this season, there's a chance we will be fine. We just need to stick to the way that brought us promotion.

It might be pleasing on the eye, but boy, it brings so much threat of heart attack.

Yeah I do agree everyone underestimated Sheff, and their performances were a joy to see (though slightly bitter for the way they went up last season over us)

if you have a finisher rather than Bamford I'm sure you'll do alright.

I've only watched bits and bobs of Leeds but Kalvin Phillips looks a machine (not a FPL target though) and I'm really looking forward to seeing how he does.

The burnout will be real, especially in a short preseason, but you could be safe by Feb - hopefully - the PL is better for teams like Leeds in it. Shame (and crazy) Forest imploded massively

One hopes that Bielsa would realize that Bamford might not be cut out for EPL and get a strike partner at least. If we don't recruit a striker, our season could end very rapidly.

Yeah KP is amazing and guards our defenders amazingly. But as you said, he's not a FPL kind of player. Would expect him to be priced at 4.5-5m. He's on most set pieces also. (but we only scored 1 direct free kick this season)

I'm not sure if you are a Forest fan, but after all their attacks on Leeds and how they will be top after winning us in Feb, their downfall was a bit of a joy to behold. The 2 clubs that kept talking about us (Forest and Brentford) end up having their fair share of bottles.

I don't foresee us safe by February but it would be nice to not fight relegation from the get-go. Norwich played well and was pleasing on the eye but their inexperience showed. I hope we won't be like them.

Thanks for this. I'm neutral but big fan of Championship as league. I have noticed that Bielsa does not rotate significantly. I think I will monitor situation of goalkeeper and one of the defenders (if their price will be in 4,5 region) and also if you get someone who replace Bamford as lone striker that player should be monitored too.

He actually uses a very small squad of like 17. He rotated more against Derby than in the past 40+ games, which says something. That potentially leads to burnout, but concurrently, it also means that even a new signing is not guaranteed a spot. I foresee we will sign a striker, but whether he starts the first few game is a real question mark.

Would recommend Dallas / Ayling if they are priced at 4.5m. The rest won't provide much goal threat. Cooper is the safe option as captain also.

I'm a Leeds season ticket holder and i would say you've got it spot on here.

As an experienced FPL player the ones i'm looking at are the wing backs Ayling and Dallas (hope he gets classed as defender) they bomb forward just like Wolves and will pick up some assists and goals.

I'm not sure about cleansheets though, my feeling is we will concede just one or two in most games, Bielsa is an all out attack and control the ball man and not as pragmatic as Wilder or Dyche for instance. That said if we do start getting a few then the keeper will be on for bonus because his number of passes and completion rate is likely to be high. I think there is a good chance Meslier starts the season, he was excellent post re-start when the pressure was on.

Hernandez in midfield might be worth a punt if priced kindly, he's the main creator and scores a few as well, hoping he will do what Strachan did back in 1991 & 1992 when everyone thought his legs had gone.

Nice to get some assurances from a fellow Leeds fan. I suspect Dallas will be classified as a defender based on where he played this season.

I don't know why but I trust our defense a lot more than our attack. Maybe it's due to our finishing that puts me off currently. We have managed to grind out results in our last few games, that bodes well for the future, baring in mind we couldn't do so the previous season.

Meslier is good with the ball, and I'm sure that's what Bielsa looks for, there's been reports of Bielsa giving the board a list of targets to strengthen, though we won't know in what position.

I do like Hernandez, but if he's worth 6.5 and above it would be hard to justify if he doesn't complete 75 mins per game. I do think we would see more rotation if we managed to get an understudy for him

Sadly they would have cottoned on to Meslier, he'll be 4.5 for sure. No way they'd let him be 4m after the last 10 games of the championship.

Not many people knows he might actually start though. It tied it nicely with Kiko's ban.The easy assumption would be Kiko is still first choice if they don't know whats going on behind the scenes.

If they're unsure over who's no. 1 they'd have no problem pricing them both at 4.5, like when Hart, Pope and Heaton were all 4.5 one year (I forget which) at Burnley.

I am all over Alioski. Have been watching him for our national team a lot. He has the potential for the PL imo. Also he shoots a lot and he is excellent on free kicks too. Fpl type of player. If there aren't any transfers jeopardizing his assured starts for 4.5 -5m he would be the best 5th mid

He hasn't taken set pieces for Leeds in a long while. KP is our main choice. That being said, the issue with Alioski is whether he actually starts. Currently, he isn't first team and with Harrison staying he might end up being an impact sub or rotated with Harrison throughout the season.

Those 2 reasons alone will put me off him

            Great write up!

Unfortunately I see Ayling as the 5 million defender that newly promoted teams get as their flagship option, and I’m always a bit wary on newly promoted teams. I know Leeds and Wolves are likely outliers, so we will have to see how pre season is!

Very informative and helpful. Thanks for sharing , was looking at Casilla but now will see who gets the 1st choice GK
Went with a promoted team keeper as my set & forget keeper in the last two seasons with good returns both seasons & finishing in top 10 in FPL points. Good value for the money with both at 4.5m starting price.

            2018/19 Neil Etheridge

            2019/20 Dean Henderson

Will be starting next season with a promoted keeper again. Will see if I can get top 10 points returns from another promoted keeper. Thanks again for writing this post.

If there’s one advice I can give, DONT get casilla. He seems done at Leeds, unless something extraordinary happens. I might even double up on Leeds keepers it Meslier is priced 4m. I’m hoping for Romero honestly. Don’t see arsenal releasing Martinez

Agreed, don't think Arsenal will release Martinez either. Was looking at Casilla before I started doing more research and decided against getting him.

Only thing I know atm is that my keeper will most likely be from a promoted team as long as he has a high save percentage rate.

            Hey mate,
Now that the prices were released, which of Dallas or Ayling are you going?
I understand Ayling is Leeds Doherty, but who do you compare Dallas to?
            appreciate you feedback

I have the same question mate. I think Ayling is the guy because even when Leeds play with 3 at the back Ayling becomes right wing back while Harrison becomes the left wing back so Dallas may be not perform that well in this case.

Newly-promoted Leeds are lining up one of their first transfers ahead of their return to the Premier League, with widespread newspaper reports claiming 20-year-old Canadian forward Jonathan David in their sights.

David has shone at Belgian club Gent this season to attract interest from Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds will face stiff competition, however, with rivals Manchester United also having been linked to the £27million-rated player.

Not going to happen. Don't see them spending 27m on him with JKA situation still unclear.

We have been linked to every single player on earth the past week, from Ibra to Cavani etc. The owner has stated that they will be looking at English League prospects. So if Brentford don't come up, Benrahma would be the option they would go for.

This was also the rumours to force Lille's hand in getting him, but it backfired as Lille are close to signing the Rangers striker instead. Not a wise move from Gent's perspective.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly getting closer to signing Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to Sky Sports, Spurs have offered £15m for the 24-year-old Denmark international in negotiations so far.

Saints are thought to value Hojbjerg at £25m, but a deal could be made for a smaller transfer fee and with on-loan Kyle Walker-Peters moving the other way to St Mary’s permanently.

He's not really a FPL prospect though. KWP at 4.5 could be though.

Interesting that they're going for a player like that. I think Spurs need to address the creativity gap left behind by Eriksen and Trippier. Big losses and still not replaced.

Bielsa's contract runs out this week and he is still to agree a new deal.Would he sign a new one? or there is talk of managing Barcelona.

That talk is utter rubbish. He has been linked to Barcelona in the past. Players need to adapt to HIS style, and their ego will not take his style of play.

Contract talks are set to happen this week. He will sign another 1-year deal as expected. I mean if he wanted to leave, he would be at Goodison Park watching Bournemouth over the weekend and scouting players.

I see a lot of people expecting Taa to be priced @ 8m.
              I don't think so.
Robbo scores 213 still got 7.0m tag.

Since this season Taa outscored Robbo by some points i think they will do
Taa 7.5 (0.5 for set pieces incentive) &
              Robbo 7.0
              VVD 7.0

TAA 8-8.5, Robertson 7.5 and VVD 7 imo. Trent has to be at least 8 I'd have thought, even then he offers great value in all likelihood.

I know TAA breaks the mould, but I can't see any defender being 8m.
My guess: TAA 7.5, Robbo and VVD 7.0

I also think that with Neco Williams breaking through, he'll be given more chances and Trent rested in some of the 'easier' games.

7.5 looks like it to me

You're probably right, but I hope (albeit unlikely) they price him at 8.5. He's the most attacking defender in the game, playing for the best defence in the league and is near guaranteed to get the most points of any defender so long as he stays fit. By pricing him at 7.5 he becomes a must have, which should never be the case going into a season where sufficient information about the player is known.

At least in this decade you had 5 diffrent champions. Non other big league has his own big 6 with every team having reasonable chances to win that respective league. Here my predictions for others leagues:
                    1) La Liga - Barcelona or Real;
                    2) Serie A - Juventus;
                    3) Ligue 1 - PSG;
                    4) Bundesliga - Bayern.
But the most interesting league is the Championship. Unfortunately football quality is not always there:)

Yeh, and more diversity with runners up too, in recent history. But I fear we're moving into a phase with much less movement until major events happen such as Pep leaving and Newcastle being awash with blood money.

There always will be such problem until salary cap will be introduced. Which won't happend. But even the Mighty City under Guardiola does not look such untouchable as I thought they could be after 2017/2018 season. Liverpool is still there, Chelsea and ManU should improve also. Even if Newcastle get those Arab’s money it will take time to build something. But with its limitation Premier League may be considered as a relatively competitive league.

In defence any Burnley starters still priced 4.5, we've been talking Leeds defenders - may be one or two at 4.5. At Leicester Justin and Thomas might play regular and also be priced 4.5. Maybe Garcia will be regular partner to Laporte. In midfield Soucek is worth a look.

I'm curious to see if Everton continue with this 4231 shape. A probably massively price-reduced Siggy becomes attractive in that set up. Also the striker situation with Kean and DCL.

Ah yes that is possible. Mari is injured into the start of the season as well so if he's at 4.5m and becomes a starter mid-season that would be great.

The key is to find the player who wasn't part of the setup in FPL's mind and who becomes a starting player come the season starting.

There's also Saliba. Holding might not be a confirmed starter as there's some reports of Arsenal willingness to offload him also.

                  Nah, he'll prob be 7.5m
Budget = nearer 5m for a midf, hence Soucek from WHam qualifies, for me.

Another player with 1st season syndrome at a new Club was Perez. Could be another good option.

He should be priced less as well.

He might not start every game due to age. In the last 10 games, he has been nursing an injury as has been used (amazingly) as our impact sub at half time. His 9 goals and 9 assists would push up his price to about 6-6.5m sadly.

One of my objectives when we start fiddling with team selection again will be to see what team I can get out going no City.

That will mean going 3 x LFC. We will be up for it as defending the title will be priority. 3 x CHE attack looking the business as well.

KDB still one of the first in but pending price and what team I can get out without City, may go without.

Might end up having to anyway if they get a delayed start. A crucial decision to make next season will be when to being the Manchester clubs on board, and to what extent.

True, City and UTD's remaing Europe fixtures may very well lead to issues when going with their assets. They will also have less rest than the other teams before it starts up again.

Imagine if they start with easy fixtures from GW2/3. That would be a nightmare. A few tough games and a fixture swing around GW6 would be ideal.

Yeah, lots of rotation from pepmaster lol.

Insane the amount of changes he made this season. With Aguero back and replacement for Sane, rotation could become an utter joke lol.

If Aguero never got injured, who would played more, him or Sterling?

Jesus racked up the minutes since the restart. Pep is getting him ready to lead the line next season.

I reckon the teams to target for the opening weeks will be LFC title defence, Chelsea title challengers and Spurs push for a top 4 spot.

Obviously early doors but all three these teams will be looking at geting off to a flying start.

Hey all, not sure if anyone has had a go at this already but thought I would give it a go.

Based on the starting prices, I have built what I believe to be the best points/£ you could have conjured up:

              4-4-2

              Pope
              TAA | Robbo | VVD | Doherty
              KdB (C) | Sterling | Martial | Willian
              Vardy (VC) | Ings

              Henderson | Lundstram | Ayew | Cantwell

This costs 100m exactly at the start, I’ve not worked out all of the autosub bench points but this team minimum with the perma captains above would have scored 2.406 in total!

              Crazy!

I did this too, got a slightly different team that scored 2410 points but did not factory in autosubs or vice captain points for when KDB didn't play and did not include extra points from the chips.

Had a go at this yesterday

                Hendo
                VVD, TAA, Lundy
                Salah(C), KDB, Martial, Willian
                Jimi, Ings(vc), Vardy

                Subs: Pope, Egan, Tarks, Cantwell

Gets (we think) 2581. Probably needs the score rechecking, though.

                  Pope, (Henderson)
                  TAA, VVD, Doherty, (Baldock, Lund)
Mane, KDB (c), Martial, Willian, (Traore)
                  Vardy, Jimenez, Ings

Haven't worked out who should be vice captain, or autosub points.

I doubt he would have kept up with his points per game. Would have been intersting if he had joined UTD from the start of the season.

Beating Salah's record of 303 is going to be a headache even for Aguero.

Yeah, but it's because he didn't play so much that it works. Alonso fills in KDB's non-playing games really well as VC: gameweeks 8, 29, 36 when KDB doesn't play at all, Alonso scored 5, 12, 1. When Alonso doesn't play you get Ings points off the bench. You don't get all of his hauls, but it does fill in quite nicely.

Sorry, Alonso scored 5, 6, 7 in gameweeks 8, 29, 26. Lundstram scored 5, 12, 1 so swapping VC to Lundstram is the same points total....

Boly was injured most of the season. Had he been available the clean sheet count would have been much higher and given Patricio the Golden Glove.

That's true. All those early day draws - if a few had been single-goal wins the story would have been different. Without Europa that stable defence would render the likes of Patricio, Boly and Saiss very good value, prob 5m-5.5 for Patty and Boly, 5m for Saiss.

Would you dabble in their defence at 5.5's? I'd say that's what they'll come in at based on their league position - they're basically up with the big boys now

Not sure i would partake at those prices tbf (Doc will probably be 6.5!)

TAA & a load of 4.5's maybe feels a bit better to enable getting the KDB, Bruno, Ings trio further up the pitch

Does anyone see another FPL asset dethroning Salah's 303 points record?

Trent? I think it would be 100% impossible for a defender to exceed that number. Based on the scoring system it has to be a midfielder

If Alisson doesn't get injured and the nightmare that is Adrian diminishes the clean sheet points, with more free kicks he'd get closer, at any rate.

Not true. Based on his age, his market value would be significantly less than a lot of the current crop. Probably sneaks into the top 10 with a transfer fee in the vicinity of £100-£150 million. For perspective Mbappe is pushing £300 and players like Sterling, Rashford, Kane and Salah would be valued higher than Messi

I get your point but that’s not his market value which is a business model based on price of an asset and potential for years of success. Won’t be in the premier league until his contract with Barca is up and perhaps then he won’t have the physicality which is a real shame

I think fitness/rotation are the big barriers rather than ability

As in, there are several players with sufficient strings to their FPL bows (i.e. threat from play, DFK's, corners & pens) to enable them hit the hallowed 8 PPG mark, is just to do it for a 38 game season

TAA is interesting - he picked up 32 returns this season, and were Pool to have kept 20 cleansheets instead of 15-ish he'd have another few points, but he'd still be a long ways short of 300

Its also very difficult for any striker with the way the points system i setup - they'd probably need the guts of 50 attacking returns to get there (Henry had something close to a 25G/25A season before if i'm not mistaken)

But both Bruno & KDB would be two that spring to mind as having the raw materials at their disposal to go up past the 250/260 mark & start getting sight of 300 - but will they get 36+ starts with rotation/fitness is the issue

What was most impressive about Salah was that it was basically all from open play, only 1 or 2 pens that season I think and no DFKs etc

That combined with his fitness record - he made the full 38 premier league appearances, 36 of which were starts - created the perfect storm

I can relate to that. I've always been Top 100K, usually Top 50K but last season I went completely bonkers, ended up 700K+. There is hope - this year I got my highest finish in a decade.

I think it's more volatile. In other words, it's becoming more common for normally decent players to have a nightmare out of seemingly nowhere.

Sure I say this every year, but next season I am *determined* to stick with one keeper if possible.

              Somehow this season I went:

              Heaton > Adrian > Roberto > Guaita > McCarthy > Leno/Henderson > Ederson

              Anyone beat that?

Normally a premium keeper with a 4m is a set-and-forget. Ederson, maybe Lloris would have been fine. Those who started with Alisson were unlucky. Others - DDG, Kepa, Leno turnedout to be mistakes.

Ville's just posted his 3rd season in four outside the top 10k - Like a lot of great managers, the introduction of the chips has knocked his OR's for six

Those chips just jacked up the amount of variance in a final OR to levels never previously seen before & an experienced, steady hand on the tiller now gets trumped more often by a BenchBoost/Free Hit/Triple Captaincy jackpot

                See also:
                - Mark Sutherns (just posted 3rd year in 5 outside top 10k - next year would be his 4th year in 6 outside the top 10k if he doesn't get there)
                - Jay Egersdorff (nightmare foray in pro-punditry last season with a 300k, but recovered well this year back out of the limelight)
                - FPL general (similar to Jay, but with a 500k last year, decent recovery this year as well but still outside 10k)
                - Magnus (smashed it this year - but 3 out of the 4 prior years outside the 10k)

Those top 10k's don't grow on trees!
