Son or Kane? Which FPL asset can best capitalise on Spurs’ appealing fixtures?

Harry Kane‘s (£10.5m) end to the 2019/20 season suggests he could be the key asset for those looking to tap into Spurs’ appealing fixtures this time around.

Jose Mourinho’s men sit second on the Season Ticker for attacking potential over the first six Gameweeks, based on their opponents.

During this period they host Everton, Newcastle and West Ham while they’re road trips take them to Southampton, Manchester United and Burnley.

Spurs players had not appeared in too many Fantasy Premier League drafts before Thursday’s fixture release, but now that we know the schedules, Mourinho’s charges have become more popular.

As Fantasy managers search for the best way to invest in Spurs’ attack, Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Kane are the front-runners, currently sat in 18% and 14.5% of squads respectively.

Ahead of the new season, we have compared how these two attackers performed during Project Restart. As this uses Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

What were Son and Kane’s average positions?

    *Pulisic Update*

United States men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter yesterday..

“I talked to Christian today,” Berhalter said on a media conference call.

“He’s doing well. The leg is doing really well. It’s recovering, it’s healing. We have a lot of confidence in Chelsea and their medical staff. He’s a good who’s exploded on the scene in the Premier League and we’re excited to see how he comes back.”

    --

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic is excited for CONCACAF World Cup qualification with the United States, and hopes for a potential "revenge" match against Trinidad & Tobago, who eliminated the USMNT from qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

"I'm really excited. All the guys have been (excited). We've waited such a long time for this. We have a really good group of guys who are hungry and just want to be in the next World Cup having not been in that last one. Even more so for me. I want to be in this one bad. We're really looking forward to this challenge."

If Kane doesn't get rested, he'll just get injured again. They need to learn about the red zone.

    GK Ramsdale
DEF TAA, Walker Pieters, Justin, Ferguson.
MID Salah, Son, Saint Max, Auba
    FWD Mitrovic, Werner

    Subs Miazek, Vinagre, Greenwood, Davis.

Pretty happy with that, auba to citeh gw 3.

Preseason could change a fair few things though of couse

Same and I'm not sold how they are one of the top teams in terms of season fixtures. Their first four matches:
      Home - EVE, NEWC
      Away - SOU, MUN

NEWC is the only one that stands out for me. But when you take into consideration the EL matches Spurs play, Kane away on Internationals and the rotation that will ensure Son gets his minutes managed, I think their assets are too costly with minimal returns.

      Much better points elsewhere.

          GW1:
          Ryan (Nyland)
          TAA-Doherty-Vinagre-KWP (Ferguson)
          Salah-Mane-Auba-ASM-Soucek
          Werner (Brewster*-Davis)

          *subject to PL loan.

          GW3:
          Ryan (Nyland)
          TAA-Doherty-Vinagre-KWP (Ferguson)
          Salah-KDB-Bruno-Greenwood-Soucek
          Werner (Brewster*-Davis)

So, a noted weak bench, but happy enough with balance.
Could downgrade Doh to upgrade FWD but I believe Doherty has more chance of outscoring Mitro/Adams and now that I don’t fancy Antonio with those fixtures, I’m happy to go 1up top and hope Brewster gets a loan move (which looks like he will) in order to get a bit of bench backup.

              Thanks SD.
I spent ages trying to work out ways of working a decent 2nd striker in - and found myself weighing up:
Mitro; done it before, talisman, on pens - but Fulham aren’t going to pull up trees and their early run is mixed.
Adams; I like, but he is, and will be all season - a poor man’s Ings. I think he’ll form a partnership with Danny this year, but still think Ings will outscore him (as you’d expect for an extra £2.5m!)

I got a bit hung up on Jonty’s ‘price point’ thing (which I love btw) and stepped back to realise that Doherty’s points are far more ‘reliable’, Wolves have a great early run, and most will have Vinagre, so where’s the upside if you only have one Wolf.

All that to say... it feels good having both Trent & Doh in my backline!
(Feels less food relying on Ryan!)

You can rely on Ryan to be worth 4.5 I think, all things considered

Che reminds me of going for Jota over Jiminez last season, another parallel to the cut price Ings theory

Very similar for me. Though swapped out Ryan for the Fulham GK (Rodak?) as I don't like BHA early fixtures (changes from about GW10). Hopefully the Fulham lad gets some decent save points and the odd clean sheet in their early run. Possibly Ryan a better choice for set and forget though.. tough one

Yeah, not happy with Ryan. Especially with CHE GW1.
If Nyland gets a run - he does cover a couple of tricky fixtures for Ryan in GW3&7.
But.... there were pictures of Heaton back in training, so assuming minimal chances of Nyland mins in GW1-3, let alone as far out as GW7!

I’m just so uninspired by GK options this season.

Ye I'm with you. Sadly doesnt look like any Henderson/Pope/Ramsdale equivalents in the 4.5 bracket this year. I'd take Ramsdale for 5m if Shef had better fixtures. Could be case of switching between Mccarthy/Heaton (if you're right)/Ryan/Rodak fixture depending. But I hate planning to have to make transfers

              4 years, 2 months ago

              Only time will tell.
              It could go either way.
I have both CTaylor and Saliba on the watchlist (both have been in drafts at some point)
KWP was CTaylor prior to fixture release, but I’m not a fan of the blank GW1 (meaning no coverage and having to play Ferguson) or LEI in GW2.
And Doh was Saliba before switching.

For me it comes down to - Davies/alternate £4.5m would be perms-benched so the points they bring in is of less interest to me.
Hence why I was just looking at Doh vs Mitro/Adams.

I can also switch it with a banked tfr or 4pt hit if it looks like I’ve taken a wrong turn though!

I like Kane, but Spurs propensity to labour through games worries me.

Chelsea look like they’re just going to score for fun this season, and the early slate of fixtures looks like they’re going to score a lot of goals in the opening few weeks.

I’m going to gamble on Werner.

Realistically, the only Spurs worth owning are Aurier, Son and Kane. And they sound great to own until you realise you can probably match Kane with a cheaper striker and Aurier could be sold.

That then leaves you trying to fork out £9m for Son.It’s a lot of money when you can pay £7.5 for Greenwood.

      1. have you seen cyan

Assuming majority squad structures to be similar, it would entail 3 'premium' (9m or above) assets to start the season. Which would your 3 be?
Salah, Auba likely in all. Leaning Vardy to start the season over Werner or a blanking Rashford

The more I think about it the more merit I see in holding a Man Utd asset on the bench for GW1:

-It saves a transfer down the line as we will surely look to transfer in at least one, if not two, into our teams in the following gameweeks
-We have a number of cheap, able deputies in the likes of Soucek and few 4.5 defs to take a place in our teams for GW1, all which could score decent points in the first game and then used on our benches as fodder for the following weeks

Would be interested to hear others thoughts on this??

I'm looking at a majority of options as medium term picks

But Soucek as a two week punt/enabler could be decent. Bit of cash in the bank to do a double trade for GW3

Anyone looking for a Soucek alternative, y'all can just go Hojbjerg. Sure he's a DM, yes he's not particularly imposing aerially. But as a Saints fan I will guarantee he will shoot. A lot. The kind of shooting frequency that'll make you feel sick eventually, cuz he is absolutely rubbish at it. Just ouside the box and you can bet your life savings he will have a crack at it, no matter how s*it he is at it.
Who knows, he might have better luck this season?

Yup, 1.4 shots a game according to the stats, in 19/20. High for a guy who scores a grand total of ZERO.

Think that sums it up for why we should just get Soucek anyway x
